Abstract:
Liliana Cavani’s 1974 film The Night Porter begins when Lucia (Charlotte Rampling), a death camp survivor, and Max (Dirk Bogarde), a former SS officer, begin to replay the sadomasochistic sexual relationship they had during Lucia’s internment. The past/present timelines that emerge are not separate, but interconnected and intermeshed. This article examines the film as a “memory text,” as defined by Annette Kuhn, to explore the way memory impacts Cavani’s ethical pursuits, which is directed by Kelli Fuery’s Beauvoirian analysis of moral ambiguity in the film. Sophia Bain argues film does not endorse the relationship, but rather presents the reality of women’s submission as an embodied memory of women’s past submission.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay explores the plans of 1982–1983 to produce a remake of and then a kind of sequel to Beckett’s 1965 Film. With access to the personal archive of the director who was planning these pieces, Damian Pettigrew, the essay traces the history of the shifting project and focuses on Beckett’s own direct involvement, evidenced in correspondence as well as notes taken of a number of face-to-face conversations between Pettigrew and Beckett. These conversations also throw light back on 1965’s Film with regard to influential films, locations and imagery that provide context to the original. At the same time, further correspondence reveals the involvement or near involvement in the Film remake of notable figures such as Jack Lemmon, Dirk Bogarde and Klaus Kinski.

Abstract:
This article considers the working practices of British cinema's only major female film producer during the early-to-mid post-Second World War era, Betty E. Box (1915–99). Via reference to her extensive archive at the British Film Institute and the films Campbell's Kingdom (1957), The Wind Cannot Read (1958) and Hot Enough for June (1964), the article charts how Box initially envisaged multi-generational casting for roles that were eventually taken by long-term collaborator Dirk Bogarde. It considers the manner in which she approached the diplomatic complexities of location shooting, with particular focus on Ralph Thomas's military romance The Wind Cannot Read, the first British film to be shot in India for twenty years at the time of its production. The reasoning for Box's ongoing absence, as a female creative figure, from scholarship addressing British cinema, and film production more generally, will also be addressed.

Abstract Travis Bogard's reliance on final authorial intention as the principal criterion in his selection of copy-texts for the Library of America edition of O'Neill's plays sometimes disadvantages scholars interested in, for example, performance and reception. For work on thirteen plays in particular, scholars will do well adjunctively to consider states other than those on which Bogard based his texts.

Full text
Abstract:
The effect of fructose on γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content and its metabolic pathway in broccoli sprouts was investigated. The results demonstrated that the fructose treatment not only significantly increased the fresh weight, GABA, and glutamate contents in sprouts, but also promoted the activity of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) and the expressions of BoGAD1 and BoGAD2. Meanwhile, fructose treatment inhibited the stem length of broccoli sprouts and enhanced the abscisic acid (ABA) production in comparison with the control. Ca2+, CaM contents, and BoCaM2 expression in broccoli sprouts were also stimulated after fructose treatment. Exogenous fructose increased inositol trisphosphate (IP3) content and activated the activity of phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) and the expression of BoPLC2, contributing to Ca2+ influx into the cells. These results suggested that Ca2+ played an essential role in GABA enrichment under fructose treatment, which may be associated with GAD and PI-PLC.

Abstract:
Maintaining and nurturing an ensemble theatre have been Anne Bogart’s foremost concerns in these past near-thirty years since she and Tadashi Suzuki founded the Saratoga International Theatre Institute (SITI) in 1992. Suzuki had established the Suzuki Company of Toga (SCOT) in 1976, making a secluded mountainous landscape of Japan its home to this day. Bogart’s venture in the United States, although inspired by Suzuki’s model of a production-based troupe of high artistic standards that, at the same time, developed its unique training methods, by no means merely duplicates its predecessor. In this Covid Conversation, Bogart briefly maps a segment of SITI’s history, reflecting on the company’s inter-arts endeavours with differing dance idioms and its engagement with Greek tragedy. She discusses the effects of the Covid pandemic on her troupe, also interrupting its performances of The Bacchae at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. Her most recent opera production, Tristan and Isolde, was closed for the same reason at the Croatian National Theatre – a key work in her portfolio of nineteenth-century grand opera as well as contemporary avant-garde opera. An acclaimed theatre director, Anne Bogart runs and teaches the Graduate Directing Programme at Columbia University in New York. At the SITI summer school in Saratoga, she and the company have workshopped the Viewpoints method that she has elaborated from Mary Overlie’s six principles for theatre and dance training. Bogart’s international workshops have further developed her method. She is the author of A Director Prepares (Routledge, 2001) and of many influential books that include (with Tina Landau) The Viewpoints Book (Theatre Communications Group, 2004). The Art of Resonance is forthcoming (2021, Bloomsbury). Maria Shevtsova is the Editor of New Theatre Quarterly whose most recent book is Rediscovering Stanislavsky (Cambridge University Press, 2020). The following conversation took place on 27 August 2020, was transcribed by Kunsang Kelden, and was edited by Maria Shevtsova. It is followed by a short coda announcing the transition of SITI into a resource centre.

Abstract:This article presents an analysis of the diaries of Barthélémy Boganda, priest and later politician in French Equatorial Africa. So far unknown, these diaries, stored in the archives of the French Spiritans, shed light on earlier stages of Boganda’s life, on which fewer sources are available. The article first discusses the broad historical background of colonialism in French Equatorial Africa and the significance of Barthélémy Boganda as an historical figure, also comparing him with other leaders of Africa’s decolonization struggles. It then analyses the nature of his diaries and their different entries and argues that it is through this source material that one can better understand the complexity of his person and the historical depth of his attitudes, thoughts and action.

Abstract:
Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is not only involved in carbohydrate metabolism, but also plays an important role in stress resistance. However, it has not been reported in Brassica oleracea. In this study, we performed a genome-wide identification of BoGAPDH in B. oleracea and performed cloning and expression analysis of one of the differentially expressed genes, BoGAPC. A total of 16 members of the BoGAPDH family were identified in B. oleracea, which were conserved, distributed unevenly on chromosomes and had tandem repeat genes. Most of the genes were down-regulated during self-pollination, and the highest expression was found in stigmas and sepals. Different transcriptome data showed that BoGAPDH genes were differentially expressed under stress, which was consistent with the results of qRT-PCR. We cloned and analyzed the differentially expressed gene BoGAPC and found that it was in the down-regulated mode 1 h after self-pollination, and the expression was the highest in the stigma, which was consistent with the result of GUS staining. The promoter region of the gene not only has stress response elements and plant hormone response elements, but also has a variety of specific elements for regulating floral organ development. Subcellular localization indicates that the BoGAPC protein is located in the cytoplasm and belongs to the active protein in the cytoplasm. The results of prokaryotic expression showed that the size of the BoGAPC protein was about 37 kDa, which was consistent with the expected results, indicating that the protein was induced in prokaryotic cells. The results of yeast two-hybrid and GST pull-down showed that the SRK kinase domain interacted with the BoGAPC protein. The above results suggest that the BoGAPDH family of B. oleracea plays an important role in the process of plant stress resistance, and the BoGAPC gene may be involved in the process of self-incompatibility in B. oleracea, which may respond to SI by encoding proteins directly interacting with SRK.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper discusses responses to Disagreement, Deference, and Rational Commitment from Bogardus and Burton, Thurow, and Kvanvig. Each of these responses objects to the rationalist account of “partisan justification” defended in the book. After explaining partisan justification and its significance, I first take up Bogardus and Burton’s argument for a more restrictive account of partisan justification which says that partisan justification requires certainty. I argue that this account yields implausible discontinuities in the verdicts given to nearly identical cases. Next, I consider Thurow’s suggestion that perceptual evidence can provide partisan justification without supporting rational insight. I explain why insight plays a crucial role in cases where perceptual beliefs enjoy partisan justification. Finally, I address Kvanvig’s objection that my account of partisan justification applies only to highly reflective agents. I argue that a subject’s actual reflectiveness does not bear on the sense of justification principally at issue in the disagreement literature.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to assess attitudes of citizens of Qazvin City towards Afghan migrants using the factor analysis technique and the Bogardus Social Distance Scale. The data were collected via a questionnaire distributed among a sample size as 384 participants. Then, the collected data were analyzed via SPSS-23 and the factor analysis technique. As a result, 30 indices were summarized by factor analysis and reduced into 7 factors presented in combinatorial meaningful factors. The contribution of each factor affecting the attitudes of citizens of Qazvin City towards Afghan refugees using the mentioned technique. The research findings indicated that those 7 factors generally explain 60.21% of the citizens’ attitudes towards Afghan migrants. The results obtained from the Bogardus Social Distance Scale showed that citizens of Qazvin City have no positive attitudes towards Afghans with the mean scores of negative answers with 77.66%. This issue indicates a great social distance between Afghan refugees and the research population.

Abstract:
They are given the results of the study of new early-ripening and mid-early hybrids of corn for grain according to the main economic characteristics: grain yield and harvesting moisture of the grain on two backgrounds - dry land and irrigation in the Volgograd region. The main indicator of the hybrid value was the figure of the breeding index. As a result of studies, it was found out that the productivity of corn hybrids increases sharply under irrigation conditions, in comparison with the bogara it is higher by 75–85%, and in dry years by 100% or more. Harvesting grain moisture of hybrids during irrigation is always higher. Due to the high grain yield, the breeding and economic value of hybrids on irrigation in any test year is higher than on the bogara. According to the data in the early ripening group on the bogara, the breeding index was 2.4; under irrigation it was 3.4; in the mid-early group - 2.5 and 3.6, respectively. The best hybrids were selected for transmission to the Testing of New Varieties and further implementation in production: in the early ripening group: WG 3, WG 4, WG 5, in the mid-early one: RS 5, RS 6, RS 8.

Abstract:

Abstract:

There are 487 majelis taklim at Bogar City and 102 at East
Bogar sub district. These figures represent trend in the Bogar
community, especially in East Bogar sub district, to actualize their
religious life.
Popularity of majelis ta/dim phenomenon is not an un-historic
process; it is a continuous and compound process. Social
improvements occurred in Bogar City community, especially in East
Bogar, because of development processes, have vary religious life,
both in activities media and in understanding urgent Islamic
concepts. Three objects referred to observe comprehension and
variety in the community in this research are polygamy, allotment of
inheritance, and hajj. Those objects are related to the popularity
of majelis taklim phenomenon, in the village, in the real estate
complex or even in the governmental institutes.
Based on observation of majelis taklim phenomenon at
East Bogar sub district, there are two conclusions, namely:

1. There are two factors which cause the popularity of majelis
taklimat East Bogar sub district, namely ustadz s orientation and
majelis taklim community s orientation .. Ustadz s orientation is
related to transfer of knowledge which ustadz has. Each santri
who just come home from Islamic boarding house or just passed
from Islamic higher education tend to form majelis taklim or become
ustadz of a majelis taklim. Community s orientation is related to no
activities factors, self-actualization, and social interaction although
motivation toget better religious understanding is a dominant factor.

2.
