Abstract:
The article, based on archival sources, characterizes the architectural ensemble of the Orthodox Chita female Bogoroditsky (since 1915 – Pokrovsky) provincial monastery that existed in the late XIX – early XX centuries in the administrative center of the Transbaikal Region, Chita. It is noted that the history of the monastery has not yet become the subject of a serious, diverse analysis. There are some references in the literature that do not give a general picture. At the same time, the monastery was the only city monastery in Transbaikalia, which makes its history especially interesting. The

В 1948 г. The article criticizes the traditional and widespread view on the etymology of the toponyms Valdai in the Novgorod region and Mount Valdai (Finnish Harjavalta) on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, west of St. Petersburg. A number of arguments are given that refute the opinion about a single Balto-Fennic proto-form (*Vaara-valda ‘Mountainous region’) for these toponyms. Instead, the author substantiates that Gora-Valdai goes back to a two-basic personal name borrowed by the Baltic Finns from the ancient Germans; this ancient Germanic anthroponym was previously reconstructed as *Harja-waldaz and

The images of Orthodox churches in the Natalia Ilyina’s books are fragmentary, but with careful reading they allow us to restore the cultural image of Harbin in the first half of the twentieth century. Natalia Ilyina never writes the full names of temples and, most often, uses the word “church” in books. The writer tells about a variety of Orthodox places in Harbin: St. Nicholas Cathedral (St. Nicholas Cathedral) Cathedral (not far from it the writer lived in the first years of her stay in Harbin), as well as a number of other Harbin churches: St. Sophia Cathedral (the Church of St. Sophia, St
