Abstract:
In his recent book The Lockerbie Bombing: The Search for Justice, Kenny MacAskill recounts his decision to release Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi, the only man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing. Eight years have passed since Al-Megrahi's release on compassionate grounds. In the book MacAskill ranges far beyond the events in which he was closely involved, recounting the bombing itself, the subsequent investigation, trial and appeals in an effort to offer a comprehensive account of the Lockerbie bombing. In this article I review the book and return to some of the key issues raised by MacAskill's decision and the broader context in which it was made. I argue that the book sheds little new light on Lockerbie and that it falls short in precisely the areas where MacAskill might have the most insight to offer. It is a rather bloodless and legalistic account that renders the complexities and the shades of grey of international politics in black and white. The case will nevertheless remain fascinating to scholars of intergovernmental relations in the UK, of para-diplomacy, and of international politics.

Abstract:
This paper presents the results of a mathematical modeling (computer simulation) effort that applied frame-based, data processing constructs, originally developed and applied in the context of artificial intelligence, to the decomposition of a complex Air Force bomber mission. The model was written in LISP to facilitate the development of a concurrent processing environment in which to simulate the simultaneous occurrence of multiple external events/crew tasks. The model simulated a four hour segment of a strategic mission scenario. Two distinct crew complements, four-man and two-man, together with their respective levels of aircraft avionics automation, were represented during a proof-of-concept demonstration. The model provided measures of resource (crew and “black box”) utilization, presumed to correlate to “workload,” at different levels of specificity. These measures were used to identify crew task “chokepoints” (large queue sizes, task interrupts) and to evaluate the effects of automation.

Abstract:
In this paper we analysed John Updike’s 22nd novel, Terrorist, to ascertain whether this novel could be viewed as a Bildungsroman. Our investigation is based on theoretical insights that Hegel, Lukács and Bakhtin offered on this literary genre; furthermore, we acknowledged some contemporary theories regarding this issue as well. By analysing characters and relations among them, narrative layers of the text and intertextual dialogue in Updike’s Terrorist, we strove to point out how Updike deconstructs this literary genre by showing a young man, Ahmad, who – under the influence of an imam – considers and plans to become a suicide bomber. Also, we indicated how the author’s approach to this sensitive topic is a nuanced one: the novel is militant only on surface.

Abstract:
- Unfortunately, terrorism is an everyday thing in today's world. There are many reasons for terrorism and they are very complex: psychological, sociological, economic, etc. Man, unfortunately, needs an enemy as well as a friend, an enemy that he needs for the projection and projective identification of his own destructive aggressiveness. All of this is being transferred to small and large groups which form homogeneous assemblages based on religious, tribal, or national types, demonizing opposite groups. Medina defined terrorism as a sudden violent attack that threatens the life and welfare of human beings and aims at the defenseless victim. Basic aims of terrorism are to create panic and constant fear by repeating sudden, unpredictable attacks; often its goal is revenge, which in turn arouses the same desire for revenge in the victim, so that the terrorist himself appears to be the ultimate victim. Aims are also permanent demoralization of the victim and intergenerational transmission of fear, hopelessness, shame and hate. The media, especially television, stimulates destructive aggression in victims by awakening in them the most regressive instincts, which are projected onto the enemy. The media stimulate immature personalities to identify with terrorist - heroes. There is no psychology that is peculiar to suicide bombers: the most common terrorists of today. The first suicide bombers were Palestinians recruited from poor and traumatized families, educated in isolated camps. They were promised they would go to heaven, where they would enjoy food, drink and virgins. The terrorists who struck the Twin Towers in New York were educated, fanatically religious family people. The main question is whether we can defend ourselves from terrorism, and what future prospects await us. It is difficult to believe that terrorism will be eliminated in the near future, because there are a number of reasons for its existence.Key words: great enemy group, destructive aggression, group regression, Islamic fanaticism, suicide bomber (sciahid), intergenerational transmission of traumas.Parole chiave: grande gruppo nemico, aggressione distruttiva, regressione del gruppo, fanatismo islamico, dinamitardo suicida (sciahid), trasmissione transgenerazionale del trauma.

Abstract:
This article explain about terrorist’s bombing toward a Roman Catholic cathedral in Jolo, southern Philippines, Sunday 27 January 2019 morning. At least 22 people were reportedly killed tragically and nearly 50 others were injured. The suicide bombing of the husband and wife exploded during Sunday Mass in Jolo is the first bomb explosion was carried out by a woman from inside the church who smashed benches, smashed windows and left the body of the victim at the Catholic church located in Jolo. The first explosion occurred at Jolo Cathedral in Sulu Province. The second bomb exploded outside the church after the congregation left to save themselves. The second bomb was carried out by a man who was the husband of the first bomber. This Jolo suicide bombing mimics the suicide bombing of a family of 8-9 May 2018 in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. Nobody thought that the perpetrators came from one whole family. Officers revealed that the bombers in the three churches were the families of Mr. Dita Oepriyanto and Mrs. Puji Kuswati. These parents invited their four children to take action in three different churches. Their four children have a very young and young age. Yusuf Fadil's son (18), Firman Halim (16), daughter of Fadhila Sari (12), and Pamela Riskita (9). The familial terroist bombing in Jolo dan Surabaya is a reflection that our world today is 'a world full of the thrill of underground revenge, inexhaustible and never satisfied in an explosion'. Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the political weakness of the socialist party in the face of fascism, its compliance and inability to organize a real opposition, left to individual initiative, easy to control and exploit. To this end, we focus on Zaniboni's attack on Mussolini, an isolated and desperate gesture that highlighted the lack of a true opposition policy. The present essay then analyzes both the pacification pact of 1921 signed by fascists and socialists and the genesis of the attack and its organization are analyzed. This attack was the first of four, all in 1926. From the beginning it appeared so anomalous that the international press spoke of a farce; in fact it was soon learned that the security services knew everything, indeed they had partly facilitated it. Mussolini was very skilled in managing the attack, useful both to demonstrate the need for restrictive measures, and to demonstrate the political irrelevance of the opposition, which even reached terrorism: the same night the unitary socialist party and the invisible Masonic Lodges were dissolved. to Mussolini. In the conclusions, thanks to the documents recovered in the state archive, the figure of the bomber is resized: not a man who lives his detention with pride, without the shadow of a doubt or an afterthought, but a man left alone, grateful to the Duce for the financial help given to his daughter, to make her follow her studies. For this reason he said he was ready to “make himself available”.

Abstract:
Among the many weapons currently used by terrorist organizations against public welfare and coalition forces, human-born Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) present a significant threat. Commonly referred to as suicide bombers, these individuals enter crowded public areas in order to detonate their IED, inflicting lethal damage to the surrounding individuals. Constructed of non-standard parts and hidden under layers of clothing, these human-born IEDs go undetected until detonated. Currently, there are no detection systems that can identify suicide bombers at adequate standoff distances. The authors developed models and a methodology that examine current technologies to increase the probability of identifying a suicide bomber at a checkpoint or marketplace with an adequate standoff distance. The proposed methodology employs sensor technology incorporating unique detection threshold values. The authors analyze our proposed methodology utilizing a simulation model that provides both the probability of detecting a bomber and the probability of a false detection. These simulations will allow us to determine the threshold values for each sensor that result in the best probability of detection of a suicide bomber and allows for a small probability of false detections. Using experimentally “good” threshold values, the authors were able to drastically increase the probability of detection with a combination of radar and thermal imagery. In this paper, the main sensor is the hand-held radar.

In this paper, the author examine the topic of suicide terrorists as the most radical form of terrorism. On the example of suicide bombers, the reasons for resorting to terrorism were explained, as well as the most optimal ways of eliminating or at least reducing this threat. The analyses often state that the main motives of suicide bombers are rewards in heaven or economic benefit or family’s persuasion, but we believe that this explanation is too simplistic. I will prove that the main motive is the lack of sense of purpose in life, dehumanization of man, human activities, and different cultures.

Abstract:
Although there is an association between suicide and suicidal behaviour and homicide and violence to others (van Praag, 2000), few, if any, major texts on suicide comment on the phenomenon of the ‘suicide’ bomber. However, the events in the USA of what Americans have now come to call ‘9/11’, have left an enduring traumatic memory throughout the world. On the morning of 11 September 2001 four aeroplanes were hijacked and transformed from a means of mass transportation to a means of terror and destruction, killing a total of 233 passengers, 33 crew members and some 3000 people on the ground in the USA (Alexander & Swetnam, 2001). It is not clear whether all of the hijackers knew that they were on a ‘suicide’ mission because in only six cases were ‘suicide’ notes found (Jenkins, 2001). Indeed, the term ‘suicide bombers' may be misleading because the main objective seems to have been not suicide but mass homicide, albeit carried out by means of self-destruction designed to inflict lethal harm on others. Those who planned and perpetrated the acts of 11 September 2001 would not conceptualise the acts as suicide but instead would perceive them as martyrdom, rationally underpinned by a legitimate struggle in a conflict of national and religious dimensions (Juergensmeyer, 2001).

AbstractThe article details the events and themes surrounding a strike and riot that transpired in colonial Bombay in 1832, led by a segment of the Parsi community and joined by other Indians, in reaction to the British cull of stray pariah dogs in the streets. The strike and riot demonstrated the commercial power of the Parsis to disrupt the daily routine of Bombay and exert their influence in hostility to colonial interference and incursions against Parsi (Indian) religious sensibilities. The Bombay dog riots of 1832 exposed the vulnerability of early British-Indian socio-political relations in Bombay and Western India in the face of popular disturbances against British authority and was in marked contrast to the state of Parsi-British relations that developed in the nineteenth century, as the Parsis led the process of Indian accommodation to British rule, tempered only by overt threats to their religious identity.

Abstract:
Shobhaa De’s Second Thoughts is a realistic representation of the psyche of the traditional Indian men and women. The freedom of women is permitted in a very restricted manner in the Indian Society. This novel is the ancient story of sacrifice and adjustment that a woman is destined to. Maya, the protagonist, lives in loneliness and sadness. In Second thoughts, Maya learns to survive in the sultriness of not only Bombay, but also of her marriage life. She strikes up a friendship with Nikhil, her charming, college-going neighbor leading to love and betrayal. The way Shobhaa De narrates each and every aspect of human relationship in general and man-woman relationship in particular, is really wonderful. This paper aims to explain the emotional and psychological needs of Maya and also gives the picture of the modern urban woman who is subjugated and suppressed in the meaningless marriage.

Abstract:
This article explores the use of molten salt reactors (MSR) as a source of cheap and limitless energy for nuclear power industry. Molten salt reactors contain no fuel pellets. MSRs run at near-atmospheric pressure, so the thick-walled pressure vessels found in light-water reactors are unnecessary. Since there is no water or sodium in the reactor fluids, there is zero possibility of a steam explosion or hydrogen production within the containment. The article also highlights advantages of using MSRs in nuclear-powered bombers. Many of the drawbacks to the molten salt reactor approach have been worked out. MSR designs have very strong negative temperature and void coefficients, which act instantly, aiding safety and allowing automatic load following operation. The Molten Salt Reactor Experiment showed that maintenance and repair could be carried out smoothly and that reactor control was highly stable. The article concludes that molten salt or liquid fluoride reactors will also take a large effort, but every indication points to a power reactor that will excel in cost, safety, long-term waste reduction, resource utilization, and proliferation resistance.

Abstract:
Research on the influence of packaging on consumer perception of beer and other alcoholic beverages suggest an important role in capturing consumers’ attention and generating expectations on perceived product quality, and in particular that color, bottle shape, and label design are key aspects. There is, however, a paucity of research looking at interactions between different aspects of packaging design. This is a topical issue given an increasingly saturated market where especially craft breweries strive for differentiation and brand recognition. Situated within this context, the present research used a conjoint analytic approach to investigate the effect of packaging design on consumer perceived quality and liking for beers. Beer images were designed to systematically vary in four design factors—label color, label shape, label complexity, and bottle shape—and evaluated in an online survey with a representative sample of Danish beer drinkers. Two of the design factors—label color and bottle type—significantly affected consumers’ product evaluations, whereas the other two factors did not. Post-hoc analyses of the main effects indicated that the combination of a “Bomber” bottle shape and a warm color scheme in the label as the optimal combination of design factors to maximize consumer preferences. Preference for the Bomber bottle was linked to a perceived premiumness associated with a preference for curvatures (as opposed to angularity), whereas the preference for warm colors was tentatively explained as due to crossmodal correspondences generating favorable sensory expectations for this color scheme.

The Bombay blood group is a rare blood type with an incidence of around one in a million. There is no known reported case of an obstetric patient with the Bombay blood group from Nepal. People with this rare blood group can receive blood only from those with the same blood type. We report an elderly gravida with the Bombay blood group who had a pregnancy complicated by diabetes, placenta previa, and transverse lie (back up) following an in vitro fertilization. Placenta previa posed a greater risk of hemorrhage and hence the need for transfusion. The main challenge was arranging blood for transfusion, and as the Bombay blood group was unavailable, she was managed with autologous blood transfusion which was performed for the first time in a pregnant lady in our institute. She underwent Cesarean section for placenta previa with transverse lie, and both mother and baby were sent home in good health.

Abstract:
The main problem of using roller bearings with direct forming rolling elements in highly loaded units is the edge effect. A significant increase of stresses at the edges of the rolling elements is the cause of the fragility of highly loaded roller bearings, which is a significant problem, especially in such units as rotors of aircraft engines. The solution of this problem in aviation is the use of rolling elements with a modified contact - bombed rollers. This paper presents comparisons of the stress-strain state of contacts of pairs of bodies imitating bombarded rollers of various geometries. The calculation was performed by the finite element method in the ANSYS package. For the calculation, the contact of the roller with a flat plate was used. In the calculation, the stress-strain state of the roller with the direct forming, the roller with the rounding of the face and the bombed rollers with various shapes of the modified forming was evaluated. The calculation model is verified with respect to the classical Hertz formula. The dependence of stresses in the concentration zone on the relative dimensions of the bombarded part of the roller with a standard generator representing an arc of a circle is estimated. A form of the generatrix is proposed, which more effectively reduces stresses in the transition zone of the modified generatrix into the straight line. The proposed form of the generatrix eliminates the main drawback of the classical generatrix of the bombarded rollers - the appearance of a concentration zone in the transition region of the straight part of the roller to the bombed, thus providing a better stress distribution in the roller. The technique used to simulate the contact interaction of rolling elements in a roller bearing can be used to study the stress-strain state of roller bearings of a different geometry, including those used in modern gas turbine engines.

Abstract:
This article examines the methods and motivations of suicide assassination of the Assassins and draws similarity between them and modern Muslim suicide bombers. Current literature about suicide bombing often focuses on socio, economic and political factors and describes it as a revenge for injustice and bad conditions of life in general. This article does not deny the fact that there can be multiple motives and factors behind the individuals who commit acts of suicide bombing and that there are always political gains for the organisers, however it highlights the main driving force which is religion and a strong belief in the afterlife pleasure that motivates individuals to end their lives and the lives of others. This article attempts to find ancestors for modern Muslim suicide bombers in an order called the Assassins lived from the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. The significance of this finding lies in the fact that there is something deep about suicide bombing; the Assassins lived in an environment very different from ours, yet they practiced suicide assassinations for a very long time. Agents of the Assassins were going through a long process of indoctrination and they were motivated by Paradise upon death. In this article the history of this order is reviewed while their assassination activity is underscored. The article brings some examples from modern suicide bombers and highlights their similarities to the Assassins. It relies on the secondary sources available about the subject. One finding is that there might be political gains for the organisers of suicide assassination or suicide bombing but for the individuals committing the act it is more the idea of Paradise and afterlife pleasure that drive them toward it. Thereby this article has its own contribution to the literature by makes recommendation to how to fight the root of this problem.

Abstract:

Abstract:
James Brussel is considered the creator of the first modern characteristics of an unknown crime perpetrator and the founding father of criminal profiling. In literature of the subject this individual is usually reduced to the story of buttoned up double-breasted suit worn by “the Mad Bomber”, George Metesky, which is considered the evidence of the genius shrewdness of this New York psychiatrist and criminologist and the potential lying in criminal profiling. The method used by Brussel has not yet been systematically described. The present article fills this gap and demonstrates that the views of the American psychiatrist, based on Kretschmer’s constitutional theory, psychoanalysis and intuition, have influenced and continue to influence his followers who elaborate characteristics of unknown crime perpetrators around the world, including Poland. The article also points to possible benefits and threats to criminal proceedings that using the above method may bring about.

Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate marketing channel and value chain of two commercially important marine fish species in Cox’s Bazar area, Bangladesh, namely, Bombay duck Harpodon nehereus and Ribbon fish, Trichiurus haumela. Three types of markets were found in the study namely primary, secondary and retail markets. The number of sample fishermen and intermediaries were 120. About 4 to 5 intermediaries were found to be involved in the each marketing chain and this group is believed to make huge profit, thus the prices of fishes were very high in the final consumer market. Marketing margin for fresh Bombay duck and ribbon fish were 29% and 28% and dried Bombay duck and dried ribbon fish were 35% and 19% of consumer purchase price, respectively. Poor transport facilities and huge number of intermediaries in the marketing channels were the main problems of marine fish marketing channel. Government intervention in the marketing channel is necessary for sustainable fish marketing systems.Progressive Agriculture 27 (2): 222-227, 2016

Abstract:
A total of 24 samples of mother's milk collected during the first week of lactation from four major cities in India (Karnal, Bangalore, Calcutta and Bombay) were analysed for the estimation of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). α-HCH, p,p'-DDE, and p,p'-DDT were generally the main contaminants. The average total 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis (p-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDT) levels stand at 0.05, 0.11, 0.19 and 0.22 p.p.m. (whole-milk basis) in the samples from Bangalore, Calcutta, Karnal and Bombay respectively. In the same order total hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) levels were around 0.01, 0.03, 0.03 and 0.05 p.p.m. Wide variations among OCP levels observed in the present study have no relation with the fat content of the various samples. The samples from Calcutta and Bombay showed significantly high levels of OCPs. The daily intake of total HCH and DDT residues calculated for the suckling infant was significantly higher in the present study when compared with the WHO recommended value.

Abstract:
Visualization as a tool for manipulating the modern information-hybrid war. History of one photo — “The truism in Szyrokine”Documentary nature of photography convinces the viewer that the image is exactly the same as reality. A photo causes trust and this property of photos is repeatedly used in manipulating public opinion. In the report perception means of the image are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the fact how photojournalism becomes the powerful tool in terms of information war against a backdrop of military conflicts. Especially in today’s conditions, when, according to Oksana Zabuzhko: “Era of »bombed cities« passed — the era of »bombed brains« began…”. History of photodocumentary and history in general can argue that wars and disasters always attracted the attention of the news. A photo neutralized the distance between the viewer and the event. But at the same time, in terms of Russian aggression against Ukraine, it became a popular and effective weapon in the “information” or “psychological war”. The meaning and the true scale of this war are often underestimated. It is perceived like a sort of supplement to “main”, “hot” armed phase of the war. But in reality the meaning is reversed: the information war is total. Moreover, the visual aspect of it is paid the main attention. Photos and their variations are successfully used as a technology of hybrid war. The consequences of this are so powerfully felt by Ukrainian media space. To the most used means we include misrepresentations, information provokes, fakes, manipulations, photo collages, false testimonies of witness, fake experts and witnesses and others. These technologies are analyzed in the report as manipulative tools of modern information and hybrid war.

Abstract:
We aim to construct portfolios by employing different risk models and compare their performance in order to understand their appropriateness for effective portfolio management for investors. Mean variance (MV), semi variance (SV), mean absolute deviation (MaD) and conditional value at risk (CVaR) are considered as risk measures. The price data were extracted from the Pakistan stock exchange, Bombay stock exchange and Dhaka stock exchange under diverse economic conditions such as crisis, recovery and growth. We take the average of GDP of the selected period of each country as a cut-off point to make three economic scenarios. We use 40 stocks from the Pakistan stock exchange, 92 stocks from the Bombay stock exchange and 30 stocks from the Dhaka stock exchange. We compute optimal weights using global minimum variance portfolio (GMVP) for all stocks to construct optimal portfolios and analyze the data by using MV, SV, MaD and CVaR models for each subperiod. We find that CVaR (95%) gives better results in each scenario for all three countries and performance of portfolios is inconsistent in different scenarios.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article proposes a theoretical framework to identify the main ideal types of motivations underlying voluntary suicide missions in terrorist campaigns, with special reference to Sunni extremists, such as Al-Qaeda and its allies. Based on empirical evidence from several suicide missions, the paper argues for conceptualising a specific kind of rationality qualitatively different from a calculation of costs and benefits and in addition to the complex constellation of affectual orientations driving militants. On one hand, martyrdom videos and biographical information on suicide attackers, as well as interviews with would-be suicide bombers, make it plausible to hypothesise not only a type of instrumental rationality in which suicide missions are viewed as adequate means for both egoistic and altruistic goals, but also affects and feeling states, such as outrage and humiliation, that create a desire for revenge. On the other hand, militants’ frequent references to a series of absolute values support the theory of an axiological rationality of suicide terrorism, meant as a disposition to conform unconditionally one’s action to certain moral duties and normative expectations regardless of their consequences. From this perspective, success in recruiting and inspiring suicide bombers, demonstrated by Al-Qaeda’s propagandistic call for jihad and martyrdom in defence of Islam and oppressed Muslim countries, cannot be explained only by militants’ search for social consideration or by their cognitive view of a strategic use of suicide bombings. Such responsive participation in suicide missions is also based on a wide set of emotions and militants’ adhesion to superior principles requiring ultimate sacrifice and indifference to other costs.

The editor of ANTIQUITY remembers travelling, as a child, on the main A1 highway to see relatives in southeast England, watching the banks of sharp-nosed Bloodhound missiles ranged close by the road – pointing east, to meet incoming Soviet bombers. The obsolete monuments of the Cold War, and before that of the Second World War, are history now, famously the Berlin Wall (Baker 1993 in ANTIQUITY). Many, like the concrete runways of the airfields, are so solidly built they are not lightly removed. These remains of England's 20th-century defence heritage are not well understood. However, and contrary to popular belief, they do have a large documentation; and it is this, the authors argue, that should form the basis for systematic review.

Abstract:
A series of suicide bombing terror in Surabaya and Sidoarjo a few days ago drew public attention. It was because the perpetrator was a family. After being investigated, the motive of the suicide bomber was based on false religious doctrine. According to the confession of the perpetrator’s children who survived, they had been indoctrinated by religious doctrine and living in a closed environment. Terrorism uses the teachings of Islam as justification for its actions. Therefore, the policy for the prevention of terrorism should also include the Islamic values. The main cause of radicalism effect development is the faded sense of nationalism and love of the country. State defense approach is considered appropriate as a form of prevention against terrorism. The state defense values can enhance the sense of nationalism and love of the country. However, state defense approach will not be effective without involving religious approach because the root of terrorism issues in Indonesia is based on the mistakes in understanding religion, therefore, the most appropriate way is integrating state defense approach with a religious approach based on the spirit of hubbul waton minal iman. Spirit hubbul wathon minal iman can be the antithesis on the meaning of mujahid.

Abstract:
The cavity magnetron was invented in Birmingham University and developed by the GEC for centimetric radar in World War II. Its existence was kept secret, and its deployment was delayed, in the belief that as soon as it was used the enemy would be able to adopt the technique both in radar and in countermeasures. The H 2 S radar using the cavity magnetron was first used in January 1943, and a Stirling bomber with H 2 S crashed a few nights later near Rotterdam. The radar equipment was recovered almost intact by Telefunken engineers. The author of a German report on the equipment, Otto Hachenberg, subsequently became a colleague of the present author in radio astronomy. He died in 2001 and his report of May 1943 was discovered among his papers. It reveals that the principle of the cavity magnetron was already well known in Germany, based on work published in Leningrad in 1936. The most serious effect of the delay in deployment of the magnetron in centimetric radar was in the anti–U–boat campaign, in which the new centimetric radar became the main contributor to the successful end of the Battle of the Atlantic.

Abstract:
New Utopian plans for liberated urban spaces emerged during the post-war era with the work of the Lettrist (LI), Situationist International (SI), and specifically Constant Nieuwenhuys, a Dutch painter turned architect and sculptor who understood urban planning as intimately linked to nomadism, play and creativity. Influenced by the bombed detritus of European capitals and the possibilities of new technology, Constant’s plans for a future society were post-revolutionary, with unseen automated factory production and spaces for innovation that were elevated on stilts. Constant’s conflicting ideas are referenced and emulated in Black Rock City – a short-term encampment erected every year for the Burning Man festival in the desert of Nevada. These multileveled zones would allow for the blurring of public and private space as well as zones of work and leisure. Abstract:
Semi-monthly effect is a kind of calendar anomalies which is less explored in the financial literature. The main objective of this paper to investigate the presence of semi-monthly effect in selected sectoral indices of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The study uses the daily stock returns of five sectoral indices viz S&P BSE Auto Index, S&P BSE Bankex, S&P BSE Consumer Durables Index, S&P BSE FMCG Index and S&P BSE Health Care Index for the period of 10 years starting from 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2017. The data were analyzed using two approaches namely calendar days approach and trading days approach. To test the equality of mean returns for the two halves of the month, Mann-Whitney U test is used. The empirical results of the study did not provide any evidence for the presence of semi-monthly effect in the selected sectoral indices. Nevertheless, BSE Auto Index showed significant difference in the mean returns of first half and second half of trading month during the study period.

Abstract:
The main aim of the study is to examine effects of bombing on development of early maladaptive schemas in children who live in directly bombed towns in comparison with children who live in towns not directly exposed to bombing. The subjects were twelve years old at the moment of testing (February 2005) meaning that they were at the age of seven during the bombing. Additional aim was to examine gender differences in development of early maladaptive schemas. The theory of Young (1990) provided framework for the study. According to the theory, early maladaptive cognitive schemas, which present basis for psychological disorder later in life, begin to develop in childhood in connection with traumatic experiences and/or other aversive circumstances. The results showed that the early maladaptive schemas are more frequent in children from directly exposed towns; and in male subjects comparing with females.

After reviewing the available literature about the main hypotheses on suicide terrorism and the psychological characteristics of terrorists that have been proposed throughout the years, the present authors have put forward some personal considerations on what the distinctive traits of today’s suicide bombers might be. In spite of the heterogeneity and paucity of “real” data, it is evident that there is no peculiar familial, educational, or socioeconomic factors that may account for religious radicalization leading to suicide terrorism. On the contrary, some common psychological features can be highlighted: such as isolation, feelings of emptiness, cold rationality, a lack of empathy, and a lust for martyrdom and death. To die to kill: this is the core feature, a sort of organizer that can twist higher cognitive and emotional processes, resulting in the supreme and highly rewarding suicidal and killing behaviors.

Abstract:
Mobilizing scientometric analyses and semi-structured interviews, this article investigates the emergence of ‘genopolitics’ and the scientific and academic stakes surrounding the study of genetic factors of political behavior. While the first paper on genopolitics was published in 2005, it was not until 2012 that we could observe the stabilization of this scientific movement. Though genopolitics is a relatively homogenous movement, it is nonetheless affected by internal struggles relating to the construction of a scientific programme that would be regarded as legitimate by all of its members, as well as by political scientists and the rest of the scientific field as a whole. Beyond these disagreements concerning the best appellation for, and main goal of, their programme, genopoliticians advocate for the emergence of a new paradigm in political science that would resolve the anomalies observed within empirical research resorting to the dominant rational choice and socio-psychological theories. Paradoxically, one consequence of this attempt at advancing political science is to threaten its epistemological independence, as illustrated by the use of methodological standards borrowed from behavior genetics. At the individual level, genopolitics provides an opportunity for political scientists to contribute to a controversial, but innovative area of research, and thus to ameliorate their position within the scientific field.

He narrates the experience of dealing with a critically ill young man brought by road from a hospital in Bombay, 500 km away, to his hometown. Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the status of corporate environment on the websites and annual reports of selected companies. This paper also attempts to study the relationship between company variables and the level of corporate environment disclosure on the company website and annual reports. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on the websites and annual reports of top 100 listed companies on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The companies are selected on the basis of market capitalization as on March 31, 2014. The data are collected on the basis of Global Reporting Initiative-3 Guidelines. Findings 14 and 30 per cent of the companies do not disclose environmental information on the website and annual report, respectively. There is no specific space for the disclosure of information on this vital issue; information was found scattered in the various sections of the website and annual report. Waste treatment, water management and carbon foot is the focus area of 53, 46 and 40 companies on the website, respectively, whereas in annual reports, energy conservation, water management and waste management attracts the attention of 79, 86 and 82 companies, respectively. The environmental disclosure on the website and overall disclosure has association with leverage, company size and systematic risk. Profitability and environmental disclosure were found to be inversely associated. Practical implications The government through appropriate guidelines should make the environmental disclosure mandatory for all the companies. Disclosure of environmental information such as penalties imposed and suits faced under environmental laws and notices received from pollution control boards and such other activities which have damaged environmental resources must be made mandatory. The accounting bodies should develop the accounting standard in respect of items and manner of disclosure. While framing environmental disclosure guidelines, special attention should be given to the disclosure of information related to water management, air and land pollution as these are the basic necessities for the existence of life on this planet. Originality/value This study is unique as it makes the comparative analysis of disclosure through annual reports and the company website of selected Indian companies.
