The cultural industry and commodity economy of the Song Dynasty in China were very developed, which gave rise to a very complete book publishing industry. In addition to having high cultural value, the aesthetic value of books in the Song Dynasty cannot be ignored. The books of the Song Dynasty, as a model of ancient Chinese books, had very beautiful board designs and font illustrations, which had a huge impact on the design of later books. Therefore, analyzing the book design system based on the Song Dynasty can fully explore its aesthetic value, which is of great significance for the study of art history and modern book design.

Wix, Gabriele. "Dip Your Finger into the Book about Max Ernst’s Books." Acta Academiae Artium Vilnensis, no. 101-102 (March 13, 2021): 300–317. http://dx.doi.org/10.37522/aaav.101.2021.73.

Abstract:
By paying close attention to the material body of the book, Max Ernst’s (1891–1976) oeuvre extends beyond literature and represents a significant contribution to the artist’s book in the 20th century. In his book design, Ernst emphasises the importance of the body of the book and thus seamlessly puts theory into practice. By drawing on this curatorial project as well as the current scholarship on the materiality of the book, the article focuses on two topics: first, it presents an overview of Max Ernst’s largely unknown poetic and essayistic work, including the discovery of a document that was lost for 65 years. Second, it is a case study of the material body of a book about books. By quoting and transforming Ernst’s book designs, the graphic designers implemented a very surprising postmodern design concept.

Abstract:
The Victoria and Albert Museum’s Renier Collection of Children’s Books provides a rich resource for research into book production as well as social history. Publishers’ cloth bindings have developed in a visually vibrant way that provides clues to the production dates of the books, as well as encouraging reflections on how they were marketed across the Victorian era and early 20th century. Questions also arise, such as, what was the relationship between the reader and cover? How did the cover designs reflect the times in which they were created? And, how different are our paperback era designs to those of the period when cloth was used?

Abstract:
Throughout the history of printing, questions of design have been crucial to the development of the book industry. This is especially the case with the development of the title page, the most crucial design feature for which there was no obvious model inherited from the manuscript book world. The Reformation both revolutionized the market for books and stimulated crucial innovations in the design and selling of books. This began in Wittenberg, where the partnership of Martin Luther and Lucas Cranach played a critical role in shaping the Reformation pamphlet. In lands more hostile to the Reformation, the design task was more complex, since design features intended to facilitate identification could place the seller or owner in deadly danger. This essay concludes with an examination of the market for devotional literature in the Dutch Republic, the home to Europe's most buoyant center of book production.

Abstract:
This study, entitled Designing a Pop Up Book about the Struggle of the Women's Warrior Siti Manggopoh, discusses the history of a woman's heroism in leading the struggle against Dutch colonialism, which at that time implemented a money tax policy (belasting). The uprising occurred on June 15, 1908. The Manggopoh People's Struggle Movement led by Siti Manggopoh was able to influence other people so that they joined forces against the Dutch and the Manggopoh War broke out which the Dutch East Indies government could not forget. The history of the nation will be lost if it is not preserved. It takes various forms of effort and media design to introduce the history of the female warrior Siti Manggopoh to the people of West Sumatra in particular and Indonesia in general. The author wants to design an effective media in the form of a Pop Up Book, so that the younger generation is now interested in history which at this time is only focused on text books. The data used in this design are verbal data, visual data and data obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation which were analyzed by SWOT analysis.
