Abstract:
This article tells the story of a cassette tape housed in the Andy Warhol Museum Archives, a set of never-released (and rarely heard) songs by Lou Reed, and the tape’s intended audience: Andy Warhol. Warhol and Reed are giant figures in the history of twentieth-century Pop Art and popular music, and their collaboration from 1966 to 1967 resulted in the acclaimed album The Velvet Underground and Nico. Based on extensive archival research and interviews, I discuss how this tape reflects Warhol’s and Reed’s failed attempt to collaborate on a stage version of Reed’s album Berlin (1973); Reed’s reaction to Warhol’s book, THE Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) (1975); and how elements of Warhol’s own audio aesthetics and taping practices find their way into Reed’s recordings around 1975. I also place this cassette in the context of the emerging common practice of creating and gifting homemade mixtapes of curated music, and demonstrate how such mixtapes function as a type of “closet media” (to quote theater scholar Nick Salvato) marked by private audience, disappearance, and inaccessibility. Drawing on William S. Burroughs’s conceptual spliced-tape experiments and their challenge to unified subjectivity, I explore the epistemological and ontological ramifications of sonically entangling the self with another person, and the queer intimacies of doing so on cassette tape.

Abstract:
Instructional media are used to deliver instructional contents. They can be in the forms of book, tape recorder, cassette, video camera, video recorder, film, photo, picture, graphics, television, and computer. They act as learning sources or physical tools that contained instructional materials to stimulate people to learn. The result of the research done in islamic senior high school, MAN Model Banda Aceh showed that the use of audio media could improve students’ achievement and the ability to write arabic language. Using visual media in writing could improve their achievement in writing as it relies on students’ imagination. Furthermore, from audio visual media, students could have new experience and motivate them to study arabic language.

Abstract:
This article examines on the role of Lokananta in disseminating Javanese performing arts of Surakarta during 1956-1990. It is focused on records production either in vinyl or tape cassettes and its distribution. This article composed using historical method and utilize wide range of historical sources, such as archives, newspapers, vinyl and cassette covers, articles, books, and oral history. The results showed that during 1957-1971, Lokananta has produced vinyl records which were classified into National Music, Regional Entertainment, and Regional Theatre Music. In that period, Lokananta production was dominated by recording of National Music and Music-Theatre of Central Java. During 1971-1985 Lokananta produced many music and theatre records of Central Java printed into cassette tape. In 1985-1990’s, Lokananta produced and made reproduction on cassette recordings. Quantitatively, production and reproduction recording number has drastically decreased compared to the previous period. Records vinyl and tape cassettes sale, as well as the distribution via Radio Republik Indonesia and private broadcasts, proved that Lokananta has been instrumental in disseminating Javanese performing arts of Surakarta.

Abstract:
Whether described as adaptations, documentations, translations, or transcriptions, the video cassettes which allow us to see performances on video are proliferating. Not always easily available for begging, borrowing, or buying, not always willingly turned over by the theatre companies who hold them for in-house use, often lost or erased by television channels, and always beleaguered with copyright problems, these electronic arts ‘documents’ are none the less causing a revolution in teaching, rehearsal methods, and research. In what constitutes a first detailed mapping of the territory, Annabelle Melzer's two-part article, of which the first part appeared in NTQ42 (May 1995), deals with the theoretical and aesthetic questions surrounding performance documentation, with some of the hands-on issues of such filming – and with her own journey to seek out the documents themselves. Annabelle Melzer, Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Tel Aviv, is completing ten years of research on the adaptation and documentation of theatre through moving image documents. Shakespeare on Screen, the first volume of her multi-volume filmography, Theatre on Screen, appeared in 1991, receiving the Choice and American Library Association awards as outstanding reference book of that year. Her articles on avant-garde performance have appeared in Artforum, Theatre Research International, and Comparative Drama, and her Hazan Prize-winning book Dada and Surrealist Performance has recently been reissued by Johns Hopkins University Press. She is at present writing a book on the theatricality of war.

Abstract:
For the simple truth is that much oral tradition is mutually contradictory, biased, garbled, nonsensical, and essentially codswallop. In 1974—the same year I ventured into the field to begin collecting oral data for my doctoral thesis, a precolonial history of a Mandinka state at the mouth of the Gambia River—Robert W. Fogel and Stanley L. Engerman published their now much maligned work on African American slavery, Time on the Cross. With publication of the book, Fogel and Engerman did something few historians had done before or have done since: they made public their evidence—all of it, data and statistical methodology—so others could determine how they had arrived at their conclusions. Perhaps it was because their interpretation of slavery was so different from those preceding it that historians used Fogel and Engerman's published evidence to dismantle, piece by piece, their arguments and the way they had arrived at them. But making available otherwise inaccessible evidence seemed to me the right thing to do. So, in the field and afterward, I offered up my oral data. (The written evidence I used was already available, either published or in archives at various places on three continents.) I deposited copies of cassette tapes of my interviews, with copies of transcribed translations, in the Gambia and in the United States. Also, within a few years of finishing the dissertation I published two volumes of translated, transcribed, and annotated oral traditions from the collection in an inexpensive series that I thought would be accessible to most interested parties. If people wanted to test my hypotheses, attack my methods, or berate my conclusions, they at least had the materials for doing so.

Abstract:
The pattern of educating children or the method of educating children from before birth to school age is a necessity for a mother. Mother is the first and main geographical teacher in pre-school children's education. The age of toddlers to pre-school for children is golden age. Learning while playing is a certainty, playing is the first education for children under five. The age of a toddler is like a blank cassette that can store and record something that is accustomed to and experienced in the development of a child's life. For parents, if they expect their children to become children who are good enough to have to have insight and knowledge of management of pre-school children's education. Among the many models and patterns of education management, the easiest way to deliver children to become good and noble children is quran-based management. Al-Qur'an is a holy book from the most holy God, it will be easily digested and accepted by the core of the teachings to children who are still pure. In terms of management of the pre-school education based on the Qur'an, it is intended for parents to plan for their children to always listen to the chants of the Qur'an. Then group them into playing the verses in the form of per juz al-Qur'an in one month. Then the parents evaluate the child who has been refreshed by the Qur'an, if the chanting is paused, what will happen to the child's reaction. If you cry, it means that the spirit of the Qur'an has entered your heart and soul. The situation is valid for 30 juz, so the child for 30 months has listened to and recorded 30 juz verses of the Qur'an, God willing, the age of pre-school children has been memorized and will be smart with the waslah verse of the Qur'an. This is a Qur'ani-based management that gives birth to children who love and love to read the Qur'an and the hafidz of the Qur'an.

Yanabu, Akira. "Translation in Japan: The Cassette Effect." TTR 22, no. 1 (2010): 19–28. http://dx.doi.org/10.7202/044780ar.

Abstract:
Japan has always exhibited a serious attitude towards the translation of foreign languages. Any discussion of this issue must take into account the fact that ancient Japan borrowed Chinese characters, called kanji, from China. In this paper, I will focus on the use of kanji in translation, which has rarely been discussed in Western Translation Studies. Since ancient times, the Japanese have read imported books written in kanji according to a method called kundoku, which is still used for reading Western languages in modern Japan. Kanji was also used for writing the Japanese language. This article deals primarily with examples of kanji used to translate Western words. Cultures that use kanji, including Japan, have long trusted its expressive ability, which is why Japanese translators used this so‑called ideogram. In modern times, Japanese translators have used kanji to express the meanings of Western words. Of course, this type of usage has its limits when trying to express meanings from other cultures. On the other hand, this method of translation is fairly efficient: although people reading a kanji may not at first understand its full meaning, they perhaps feel that it has a serious meaning that can be roughly understood from its context. I call the assumption of meaning triggered by kanji the “cassette effect.”
