Abstract:
Göteborgs Nation is an organisation in Uppsala led by students at Uppsala University. The student nation provide social activities for the university's students, and they experience certain difficulties with the booking process for their events. There is no standard procedure or single system for this process and a lot of the work has been done manually. When hosting events such as dinner parties with table service, or when renting out their premises to other organisations, there is a large amount of logistical work to compile all the data and to get the different systems to work together. A solution to this problem is QuickBook, which is a web based event booking system with the functionality required to create, market and execute an event, all collected in one place. This system makes the work at Göteborgs Nation easier by reducing the extra steps in the processes. The resulting system has the basic functionality that Göteborgs Nation requested. There is a collection page for all current events that users can browse through and register for. Users can also sign up to become members, log in and see their saved information, registrations and tickets. As an administrator, the staff at Göteborgs Nation can easily create events that are all in uniform, see all registration information that comes in, and even provide credentials for rental organisations to use the system. The functionality that is currently not in place is the ability to launch the web application as it is currently only running locally on a computer, as well as some smaller functions that would make the system easier to use.

Abstract:
The contracting company is in the desire of an autonomous system that can do tedious administrative work that is today done manually. They would like to autonomically notify customers about incoming alarms from the customers’ real estates’ Data Under Centrals and to notify about bookings, in which a complete booking system has to be created, together with a file system analyzer that notifies about new files in the customers’ project folders. A notification system was made that was easily deployable and ready to use. The system had to be completely configurable for the contracting company to use it to its full potential. The notification system was to send notifications when a new alarm had entered the database, a booking had to be reminded of, a rebooking was made or a file had been added to the file system in a designated project folder. The contracting company had a web portal that was further developed in ASP.net in which a booking calendar and booking viewer page was added together with a form creation and management system. A demo buttons page was also added for generating demo notifications for the company to show it’s customers how the system responds to certain events. The employees at GATE IBS feel confident that this system will help them in their working environment to further strengthen their position as an industry leading business in control- and monitoring technology.

Abstract:
We see this world rich with culture, emotion, and human connections. The human built world can afford a sense of beauty, sublimity, and resonance, and through our advancements in technology also bringing the advancements in society. At the center of these advancements are interactions, conversations, connections, collaborations, and relationships, within and across multiple disciplines, with and without technology. For the last decades, as the computer technologies have been developing, the importance of human-computer systems interaction problems are also growing with the passage of time. This is not only because of the computer systems performance and characteristics have been improved, but also due to the growing number of computer users and of their expectations about general computer systems capabilities as universal tools for human work and life facilitation. Interface design is important for several reasons and the current growth of the different web applications are characterized by an increasing availability of online different services or products trading and different search facilities like flight search web sites, provided by most commercial airlines. In this study we will therefore create an understanding of the most important interaction design principles for the designers of online booking systems. The research methodology used in the research is design and creation. The method components used in this study are documents and interviews. The theoretical study has identified some important aspects covering the human computer interaction, usability of interactive interface, user feedback and the user-centered design approach for the development of such online booking systems. These aspects have been verified through the three interviews with the interviewees having different experience levels. The result shows that the interaction design is really important in designing of interactive online booking system. Therefore, the designers of such systems need to have an understanding of the most important design principles like the usability and functionality of the system, the approach should be iterative in design, provide proper feedback, minimum steps in booking process, risk management, and user-centered approach should be included in your design principles. It is also important for the designers of online booking systems to be aware of the usability factor of the system. The cognitive psychology is also vital for designers to understand how users think and perceive things. Designers need to have a good balance between context and graphics of the interface of such systems. The result also has been shown in the design of prototype with the most important interaction design principles and other factors.

Valentine, Samuel Millward. "Public Health Service Rationing for Elective Surgery in New Zealand: 2004-2007." Thesis, University of Canterbury. Geography, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/5660.

Full text
Abstract:
The New Zealand health system is two-tiered with elective treatments are performed by both publicly funded state hospitals and by private hospitals. Publicly funded operations are rationed using a prioritisation system which was introduced in 1998 to curtail expanding waiting lists for elective surgery. One of the aims of the new booking system was to generate national tools for prioritising patients in order to improve the equality of access to public elective surgery throughout New Zealand. However, priority scoring systems were not implemented in a consistent manner and access to elective surgery remains very unequal. Despite large media attention and a high public profile, waiting times have attracted little research in medical geography or within the wider social sciences community. The subject has been partly reserved for public health commentators within the medical field, who have found that variation in waiting times has much to do with the referral practices of physicians, the management of waiting lists by District Health Board (DHB) staff and the amount of private practice that occurs within each district. Most notably several studies have identified that in areas associated with high private admissions, patients tend to suffer higher waiting times for the same procedures in the public hospital system. This study examines the performance of the New Zealand Booking System (NZBS) during the years 2004 to 2007 to assess the equitable delivery of publicly funded elective surgery procedures. Waiting times (NBRS) and admissions (NMDS) datasets were sourced from the New Zealand Health and Information Service (NZHIS) of The Ministry of Health. Mean and Median waiting times were compared spatially between each of New Zealand’s 21 DHBs, compared with Australian waiting times and then broken down into five common medical specialties. Waiting times were then analysed by ethnicity, level of material deprivation and other individual factors using data from the 2006 New Zealand Census. Finally, rates of admissions were calculated for the public and private hospital sectors during the study period. These were used to correlate waiting times results with the amount of private practice in each DHB. ACC cases were extracted from the dataset to avoid bias in waiting times as much of this work is contracted out to the private sector and not subject to lengthy waiting times for treatment. A number of medical specialists and hospital administrators were interviewed to discuss results, explain prioritisation tools and management practices. Results showed large variations in the median waiting times of New Zealand DHBs. A north south gradient is observed in which southern DHBs suffer longer waits for care. Vastly better results were observed for Australian public hospitals than those seen in New Zealand. For waiting times as determined by individual factors, Maori and Pacific Island patients and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds suffered longer waiting times nationwide although, in certain DHBs inequalities for access to elective surgery were exacerbated. However, ethnic differences were more pronounced than socio-economic variations. Admissions results showed significant positive correlations between the amount of private practice and the waiting times experienced in each DHB which are supported by previous research. Feedback from interviews confirmed inconsistency in the use of scoring tools, manipulation occurring on behalf of the DHB management to achieve performance goals set by the Ministry of Health and provided some further explanation of the other quantitative results. Access to elective surgery is determined partly by location of residence, ethnicity, deprivation and where hospital resources are located but most importantly by the willingness to pay for treatment within the private hospital sector and the ability to manipulate the public prioritisation system.

Abstract:
While physical activity has many important benefits on our health and well-being, many people find it hard to establish and maintain long-lasting exercise routines. Technology can be an effective tool to combat this issue by increasing users’ motivation to exercise and encouraging them to make healthier choices. In this qualitative study, we explored the persuasive effect and potential of an online booking system (OBS) implemented in a gym in the South West of United Kingdom to limit the amount of people in the facilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of our research was to examine gym members’ experiences of the system, how it had impacted their motivation to exercise, and to explore how their experiences could be used in a digital system aiming to promote regular gym-use and long-lasting exercise routines. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, carried out with five gym members. The results demonstrate that all informants had ambivalent feelings towards the OBS, with both positive and negative attitudes towards the system. Three key findings were identified. First, the system forced the users to adapt their exercise routines and daily activities in general to its new constraints which, in some instances, reduced their motivation to exercise. Second, the activity of booking and scheduling gym sessions gave the users a sense of commitment and determination, which increased their motivation to adhere to their planned exercise regime. Third, the users experienced the increased familiarity in the gym as a positive outcome of the OBS. Based on the empirical findings, we proposed a set of recommended features and three key components which can be beneficial to include in a digital system aiming to increase gym user’s motivation to exercise, and that could come of use to designers developing interactive systems for gym settings.

Abstract:
This study explored how the UI of booking sunbeds could be designed to be efficient and effective while being satisfactory to use for novice admin users of the system. Personas were created through a workshop that together with visual heuristics helped drive the design of an initial paper prototype that was evaluated with users. Iterating the design of the paper prototype, a hi-fi prototype was created using Adobe XD. The hi-fi prototype was evaluated using a task-based usability test with seven participants who provided quantitative data of time spent per task and number of clicks required, and qualitative data through a SUS questionnaire along with semi-structured interviews. The prototype was effective and efficient while scoring a high 90 points on the SUS scale. Qualitative data from the participants indicated that the inclusion of transitions and transformation in the UI helped create a playful experience and a system that was perceived to be easy to learn and use. The results and data of evaluating the prototype can help future designers of systems account for transitions and transformations earlier in the design process that could improve the overall usability for novice users in general.

Abstract:
The company Ehandelslösningar works within web development, primarily with e-commerce where they have both individuals and companies as their customers. Some of these companies offer services of their own and as a result, these companies have their own customers whom they have to meet and interact with on a daily basis. This led to Ehandelslösningar wanting their own calendar system, so that these companies could then use it to set up appointments. The requirement was that the developed calendar system had to be user-friendly, contain necessary functionality, and that it had to be implemented as a WordPress plugin. The project was therefore divided into two parts, the first centering on how to design a calendar system, and the second being the development and implementation of the calendar system as a WordPress plugin. The project began with a literary study of the different aspects that make up this project, such as calendars and WordPress, as well as user-friendly design and plugin security. Existing WordPress calendar plugins and other online calendar systems were chosen for analysis. The analysis was done in order to identify strengths and flaws in the design of calendar systems, which in turn would help the development of the WordPress plugin. Based on the analysis, features were selected and then implemented into the developed WordPress plugin, which is named EHLCalendar. The admin of a WordPress website can create time slots, practitioners and services once they have activated EHLCalendar. Visitors select a service, the practitioner they want, and a date in order to see the available time slots and book an appointment.

Abstract:
Society today is becoming increasingly digitalised. This has led to several daily routines that used to be handled either via telephone or face to face, are nowadays being handled via the internet. Important actors in society such as authorities but also companies open their web-sites at the internet, thereby enabling more options for people to interact with them, however the elderly group (+65 years) of users is not being included in the digitalization due to various reasons. The purpose of this study is to explore whether differences in user experience can be found within the elderly group and why. Furthermore, the purpose is to contribute with more material for future development of relevant interfaces. Initially, a group of seniors answered our surveys. Thereafter, the study deepened by doing interviews and observations of seniors when interacting with an online booking system. The result presents a number of factors such as previous experiences but also age related factors that affects the informants’ interaction with the interface.

Abstract:
The increase in connectivity and use of “smart” devices offers companies new possibilities to improve their efficiency by using digitalization. For example, booking of meeting rooms have gone from using a paper calendar to electronic booking. To enable both digital remote booking, as well as being able to book a room directly (as with a paper calendar) this project has developed a room manager system. The room manager is a device that provides a quick and intuitive way for employees to handle conference room booking. The project was started on behalf of the company ÅF, who would like to optimize their use of conference rooms.  The result was a fully functional touchscreen device built using a Raspberry Pi. The room manager integrates successfully with the existing calendar system used at ÅF and meets all the requirements set by ÅF. The device will be used to determine if a room manager system is worth investing in and may be used as a foundation for continued development.

Abstract:
Open-plan offices are widely used by companies today. There is also secluded rooms in the form of group and meeting rooms, although these are often limited in numbers. Not being able to book these rooms when needed leads to problems planning for example customer meetings. Which is also a problem for students in the school world. Today there is a number of studie rooms at Royal Institute of Technology in Kista, school for information and communication technology, where none of them are bookable. Earlier there where bookable studie rooms in the library and in other parts of the school, but such a system is no longer available because of the new facilities. The result of this is that students at the school are not able to plan their studies in an effective way because they do not know if they have a suitable place to study at between lectures or exercises. Because of this there is a need for a system that can provide students the opportunity to book a studie room. The thesis documents the development of a booking system prototype for study rooms. The prototype have been developed with HTML, PHP, PostgreSQL, JavaScript och Ajax. The thesis contains a literature studie of the current booking systems available. An analysis and an evaluation of these systems have been used as a foundation for the development. Interviews of students have been used as a data collection method. Summarizing the students opinion gave an indication of what is required by the system in terms of functionality and the user interface. The project also describes the working methods that have been used. The project resulted in a prototype for the booking system, where users can see all the available study rooms, make a booking, confirm the booking and remove their bookings. The prototype uses a database that is fully modified. The result from an evaluation of the prototype indicates what aspects that needs to be improved in future work.

Abstract:
SSL:s roll i informationssäkerhetsarbetet.
This study shows the impact of SSL application on performance in a distributed information system. Further, the case study shows also, through studies of information security standard SS-ISO/IEC 17799, the place that SSL has in applying information security in organisations.

Abstract:
The use of 3D in web applications became available in the mid 1990's with the release of VRML. Today the use of 3D is very common even with web application, and three.js and Babylon.js has become some of the most popular 3D libraries to support the creation of 3D within web services. This project was created together with Explizit Solution AB to test if 3D can improve the user experience within booking systems. The project was to be integrated with Explizit's booking system Adoxa, and make comparisons with a version called Ånghästen which exists in Adoxa. This project was a front end development as the back end already existed within Adoxa, and a survey was made with 15 participants where they tested the original Ånghästen and the new 3D version, and filled out a question form based on that test. The result of the application was a front end 3D visualization of the original Ånghästen. The result of the survey showed that most participants preferred the new 3D version over the original one, and also stated that they would most likely continue to use a 3D application if it was designed well. Many bugs and fixes were discovered during the testing and survey and future work includes continuing to fix these and to make it more dynamic for multiple activities.

Abstract:
The topic of this master thesis are information systems in turism. The author focuses mostly on reservations systems as an essential information systems for travel agencies. This thesis examines such systems in the context of the Internet and the model of software as a service. The Internet has become a necessary for operating these systems and it has influenced the field as a whole. The thesis has three main chapters. The first chapter is a theoretical one, where the author investigates the mechanics of information systems in turism. He attempts to formalize information systems in general and he seeks their role in organizations. Additionally, he explains how these systems work and what functionallity can be expected from them. In the second chapter, which moves between theory and practice, the author analyzes the current market situation of these systems. Next, he defines requirements on a system tailored for one specific bussiness plan. Using these requirements multi-criteria decision analysis is performed, selecting the system which best matches the chosen criteria. The last chapter is a practical one and it is concern with deploying selected system from the previous chapter and all aspects of this process. The goal of this thesis is to realize information system part of the Internet-based travel agency project and at the same time search for theoretical conclusions about these systems. The conclusions are then compiled into methodological manual for ASW application in the Internet-based travel agencies segment.

Abstract:
Travel agents, traditionally the sector of the travel and tourism industry that has held a strong position of power by providing an important link in the distribution channel between principals and consumers, are now finding their business under threat. Rapid changes in consumer demand, information technology and business systems are impacting on travel agency viability around the world. Increasing distribution costs have seen travel principals aiming to reach their customers with distribution that is much more direct than in the past, cutting the travel agent out of the system, or at the very least, reducing agency commissions. Strategic alliances have also given suppliers - particularly airlines - marketing synergies, and again reduced their need to rely on agents to distribute their product. Further synergies have come from the use of diagonal integration, a process whereby firms use information technologies to logically combine services for best productivity and most profitability; for example, Internet booking plus electronic ticketing. In addition the motivations and consumer behaviour of travellers are changing. The &64;new tourists&64; want experiences, not just a vacation, are more likely to know what they want, to do their own pre-purchase research, and to have a stronger preference for tailor-made arrangements. This market is independent, and more likely to rely on the Internet as a source of tourism information than to rely on the services of a travel agent to plan their trip. This thesis analyses the changes in the travel and tourism distribution system that point towards the apparent disintermediation of travel agents, and makes recommendations for new marketing strategies for travel agents, so that they may retain their viability into the twenty-first century.

Abstract:
A business concept has been developed into a marketplace. The marketplace is a web and mobile application whose purpose is to create value out of resources' bookable time slots which today generally have low occupation rates at activity facilities within sports, culture and entertainment. The marketplace is intended to bring together a wide range of low occupation rate time slots for different activity types, with types of activities that friends typically do together an ordinary day. The idea is to build a strong brand for the marketplace with the clear message that "the marketplace provides a wide range of affordable offerings for sports and spare time activities, if you choose to adjust your schedule to fit the facilities' low occupation rate time slots". In addition, the marketplace should have functionality that makes it easier for end-users to find a time slot through the marketplace that fits everyone, by synchronizing the various options of activities and time slots preferences that people within a group of friends are interested in. The marketplace is supposed to be targeted to people with flexible schedules, especially self-employed, students and seniors. There is a good potential for a third party to run such a marketplace and specialize in creating value out of low occupation rate time slots. However, the business concept does not prevent the facilities themselves to make efforts which lead to increased occupation rates at time slots with low occupation rates. Furthermore, the facilities are rather supposed to use the marketplace as a complement to their existing booking systems. Based on the examined activity facilities, there is a good potential to increase a facility's turnover with approximately 330 000 SEK yearly. The business concept has been developed by doing a market research based on a technical product which initially was designed as a booking system with different product development opportunities and various potential customer segments to address. The market research was done iteratively by using the project management methodology Lean Startup combined with qualitative market research techniques from Innovation Games.

Connolly, Daniel J. "Understanding Information Technology Investment Decision-Making in the Context of Hotel Global Distribution Systems: a Multiple-Case Study." Diss., Virginia Tech, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/29814.

Full text
Abstract:
This study investigates what three large, multinational hospitality companies do in practice when evaluating and making IT investment decisions. This study was launched in an attempt to 1) learn more about how multinational hospitality companies evaluate, prioritize, and select IT investments in the context of hotel GDS; 2) call attention to an important and costly topic in hopes of improving current practices; and 3) fill a noticeable literary void so that future researchers on IT and hotel GDS would have a foundation and starting point. The perennial question of any business is "How does an organization add value?" Value can be defined from many different perspectives and may result from tangible and intangible factors. Principal stakeholders include shareholders (investors), customers, and employees. Shareholders typically measure value in terms of economic return on their investment based upon some level of perceived risk. For customers, value is assessed in terms of a price-value relationship; that is, how much they received in terms of product and services for the price they paid. For employees, value is measured by salary and by the intrinsic rewards of the job. Yet, one of the most elusive questions with respect to information technology is "How can value be measured?" Hospitality executives are being pressured daily to invest more in information technology (IT) - especially in the area of hotel global distribution systems (GDS), which have become the cornerstone of a hotel firm's IT infrastructure and portfolio. There are a number of sweeping changes on the horizon impacting hotel GDSs and requiring the development of a well-crafted strategy for global distribution systems. These broad changes include bypass theories to remove airline GDSs and travel agents, the introduction of new and emerging player, and innovative approaches to pricing and promotion. Many of these developments offer promise to hoteliers, but they also threaten their control over their customer relationships and their inventory and add to the complexity and cost of distribution. Selecting the appropriate distribution channels is paramount to success and important if hotel firms are to grow top-line revenue and control overhead; yet the number of choices facing hotel executives is overwhelming. They are also at a loss for measuring value derived from IT. One of the greatest issues plaguing the advancement of technology in the hospitality industry is the difficulty in calculating return on investment. Until recently, most technology investment decisions have been considered using a support or utility mentality that stems from a manufacturing paradigm. Under such thinking, business cases could be built around an application or technology's ability to reduce costs or create labor savings. However, management's attitudes towards technology have been shifting in recent years. The more technologically savvy hospitality companies are looking to IT to build strategic and competitive advantages. These types of investments yield results over time, and seldom in the short-run. This is problematic among owners and investors who demand more immediate results. Moreover, it is difficult to quantify and calculate the tangible benefits of technology when it is used for strategic purposes. Today's financial models are inadequate for estimating the financial benefits for most of the technology projects under consideration today. While the hospitality industry has disciplined models and sufficient history to determine the financial gains or success of opening a new property in a given city, it lacks the same rigorous models and historical data for technology, especially since each technology project is unique. Although this problem is not specific to the hospitality industry, it is particularly problematic since the industry tends to be technologically conservative and unwilling to adopt new technology applications based on the promises of its long-term merits if it cannot quantify the results and calculate a defined payback period. When uncertainty surrounds the investment, when the timing of the cash flows is unpredictable, and when the investment is perceived as risky, owners and investors will most likely channel their investment capital to projects with more certain returns and minimal risk. Thus, under this thinking, technology will always take a back seat to other organizational priorities and initiatives. Efforts must be made to change this thinking and to develop financial models that can accurately predict and capture the financial benefits derived from technology. Given the present predicament and difficulties surrounding the current tools, techniques, and measures, executives are faced with an important choice. They can 1) continue to use the present methods despite their shortcomings, 2) dispense with ROI, cost-benefit, and discounted cash flow analyses altogether for IT projects, or 3) develop new methods, tools, and measures that can accommodate the complexities of IT and quantify the intangibles. This study is a call to action in favor of the latter because the measures determine not only which projects will be accepted but also how their success will be evaluated. Having a rigid evaluation process forces executives to identify a project's potential contribution and align the project's objectives with the firm's strategic goals and objectives. Using the co-alignment principle as its theoretical underpinning, this study employs a multiple-case design to investigate the resource allocation processes used with respect to information technology and global distribution systems. It looks at how three leading, multinational hospitality firms address IT project/investment evaluation and decision-making, the measures they use, and the frustrations they encounter. These frustrations include problems that arise from a hotel firm's fragmented ownership as well as from hotel executives' inability to measure the results of IT through definitive cause-and-effect relationships. The results of the study provide affirmation of the co-alignment principle and document linkages and co-alignment between strategy and IT. Clearly, decisions involving IT and hotel GDSs require multivariate measures, multidimensional perspectives, and multidisciplinary involvement. However, research from the marketing discipline is noticeably absent in this area. This study concludes that because IT plays an important enabling role for marketing initiatives and is redefining the supply chain of a hotel firm, marketing researchers can no longer stand on the sidelines. This study also identifies three important constructs, or classes of variables (context, process, and project), the variables comprising each, and their influences on the evaluation and decision-making processes. These findings add to the understanding of IT evaluation, measurement, and decision-making in the context of hotel GDS. This study clarifies the intangible aspects in hopes that useful measures can be developed in subsequent research to quantify and evaluate these costs and benefits. Finally, this study provides a series of prescriptions or recommendations gleaned from the three companies that were the focus of this study in hopes that they will lead to the development of best practices in the hospitality industry.

For the rapid network development, the consumers pan their tourist life via network to reserve room, it come to be a trend. Hence, more and more consumers love travel, but increased consumers, it will be ineffective when hotel operators manage a large number order forms, spend a lot of time and man power, it will impact service quality and operating performance. Therefore, we need a good management system to know each consumers reserved room information, record the sum of the transaction and reserved room date, it will enhance performances and save man power, increased advantages and service qualitys, the design and plan of reserved room management system is an one of most trend in the future, our research is based on above idea to design and develope. The aim of our research is to merge reserved room management system and shopping mall and apply it, the general reserved room manage system only provided consumers to reserved room feature, there is management a feature that can provide consumers to shopping at the same time between reserved room, after reserved finish, they can use reserved number to continue shopping in some stores that have cooperations with hotel operators, according their reserved room type to enjoy different discount in those stores, it can enhance desire of consumptions, and then increased revenue, except for providing a good services to customers, it also increased performances and revenue of hotels and stores. Based on operators and consumers requirement, we design a reserved room management system, operators can manage each consumers requirement easily, enhanced service quility, and merged shopping mall to make hotels and stores to cooperate to inspire desire of consumptions, in this way, hotel operators can communicate with consumers easily, understand and satisfy their requirement, and raise the competitiveness.

Because of many variables, the driver’s action is hard to predict. Although the traveler information system can provide traffic information to drivers, it is not easy to manage traffic efficiently. When the road system is overloaded, additional information does not improve system performance in most cases. In the airline industry, efficiency in the allocation of limited airline seat inventories can make both passengers and the airline better off. In this study, a highway booking concept is proposed, and a traffic management system is provided to control travelers’ choice and the traffic flow. If appropriately applied, it may offer a powerful tool for road traffic management. A freeway system with its access control on the interchanges is similar to a rail system in which passengers can board or detrain only at rail stations. Therefore, interchanges can be visualized as stations. The freeway mainline can be visualized as stations. The freeway mainline can be thought of as the railway. The lapse of time is similar to the moving forward of a rail car. A vehicle can be compared with a passenger on a rail car. Then, the optimal vehicles passing a section of road during a specific time period is similar to the capacity of a train. The highway booking system can be constructed and operated as rail bookings. When a request is accepted, the driver can drive on the highway. This study implements part of the highway booking system, the booking procedure, which is designed as a website. The booking method is provided for the drivers, and the control mechanism and the database of road capacity are also included. Besides, a distribution of traffic flow in each road segment in a period is simulated. The booking system can do the capacity adjustment and allocation process according to drivers’ booking status, and the results are analyzed.

While mobile-devices and electronic products including cell-phone, PDA, digital camera, watch, tablet PC, and computer being installed in NFC, and passed for ID information certification, they can exchange of data and services. This research aims to discuss how to use NFC of Android system medium to work on order of meals and replace pick-up paging machine. It makes systems cost lower, and shopping could be easier, more convenient, and efficient. We may just use a NFC cell-phone to replace a member card or a credit card such that the restaurants may increase booking rates and it is more convenient for customers to order meal even with lower personnel cost. Besides, it urges customers to use an NFC cell-phone which includes IC chips of the smart card of SSL to promote security of transactions. It makes customer pay a bill conveniently and fast. With the development of hardware and software in the future, it will provide convenient, safe, and fast mobile transactions for customers.

The "booking" is a popular word and has widely been adopted in the public service sections such as transportation, hotel, and entertainment. "Booking" means that consumers reserve the right to use a facility during some time period in advance through a reservation process. It''s main purpose is to ensure efficiency of a system and to get rid of the over capacity problem. Meanwhile, for consumers their rights can be guaranteed . No risk or charge due to uncertainty may occur. Therefore, properly introducing booking into the freeway management system could effectively eliminate re-current traffic congestion . As a result, the freeway efficiency can be improved significantly. Besides, it can provide drivers with even more comfortable, clear, and accurate information. In this study, a structure of a highway booking system and a pretimed freeway capacity assignment model are developed. The associate hardware and operation process is also illustrated. Furthermore, a segment of Sun Yat-Sen National Freeway from Neihu to Taishan is selected to simulate the performance of the highway booking system. Various driver behavior scenarios with the devised 3-hr traffic demand pattern were simulated with the software FRESIM 5.0 . In the final, results of different control strategies including Lassez-fair, ramp metering, and booking are also compared.

East region of Formosa mainly depends on railway outbound to another area. Because of these two reasons, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) operating the new Tze-Chiang Limited Express(Puyuma and Taroko) with non-standing seats in the most recent year and the number of tourists has been increasing rapidly and booming, the growth of the amount in public transportation supply are far less than the demand quantity. Its cause the passenger complains about the service satisfaction of the booking system. This study aims to offer another mechanism to replace the current FIFO (First-in First-out) booking and dispatching rule. This architecture collects all order requirement before drawing of lots to sale tickets at the sometime point. Under the process of the reservation sortition scheme, the study will propose optimized algorithms to implement ticket assigned procedure in my simulated booking system. And proposed three new creative functions, divide route into several unsold segment and combine it with entire journey, split group booking tickets by non-adjacent seat, deferred the order of non-success buying ticket into next train, to increase ticket sales results matchmaking success rate, so the utilization of the train seats can reach highest. According to statistical information from TRA website, the parameters as the traveling data generated by passenger’s entry and exit at each station on holiday, the ranking level of stopping station, the area passed by train, the distance of the OD station. My study using Monte Carlo simulation theory to generate demand data by static discrete and random approach to validation the possibility and effectiveness of proposed algorithms. With constructing holiday booking patterns as a simple simulation model to verify and analysis the priority and distance algorithms if it could make expected result in operational efficiency and utilization of the seats.

At the present time, prepared drinks stores are under an enormous amount of competitive stress as survival of the fittest. Moreover, the sale methods, like creativity and diversity, are unable to attract more consumers. How to be more popular and how to raise the consumers’ loyalty are the issues that the store owners quite value. The key for the prepared drinks stores to surviving in the fiercely competitive market is consumers’ supports. Besides the outstanding beverages, the consumers value the quality of the drinks and various sales. The consumers pay more and more attention to the quality and the attitudes of the services. In terms, the quality of the service must be one of the sale methods that the store owners use to compete with each other. In order to make the prepared drinks stores more competitive in the market, the thesis discusses the following methods: offering the service of online management and order, establishing the App ordering system, allowing the consumers to directly communicate with the stores owners by smart phones, offering the App service in which the consumers order beverages by inputting an owner’s phone number and then gaining a verified text message to finish the order. The combination of the information technology and the Internet allows the consumers to enjoy a prompt and comfortable ordering environment. The App cloud ordering service for the prepared drinks stores mentioned in the thesis establishes a sever cluster with the technology of Xen virtualization. An Hadoop disputed platform built over the cluster is, in terms, the “Platform as a Service, PaaS. A beverage ordering App built over the platform is known as the “Softwares as a Service, SasS” The SaaS can decrease both beverages sellers’ the cost of softwares and hardwares and reduce the demand for the IT engineers. The thesis designs the survey with the six aspects of Information Systems Success Model proposed by DeLone& McLean, 2003. The study target is the prepared drinks consumers in Taiwan. The survey is randomly issued to those people. The statistics and analysis of the data can increase the stability and reliability of the cloud beverage ordering App system.

The shipping industry is facing great challenge in the market. In recent years, the liner shipping carriers have been under great pressure since they are much affected by the increase of transportation cost and the instability of freight. It’s necessary to seek a new business operating model to improve the work efficiency and to unblock the bottleneck of operation management. The liner shipping carriers aim to provide better services to their customers and many of the carriers turn to e-commerce and e-payment. That’s the reason why e-booking service has become one of the most important operating strategy in shipping industry in the era of high technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of user attitude of liner shipping carriers toward e-booking system. This study uses the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) model to analyze the carriers’ selection behavior. This research used convenience sampling by distributing questionnaires to conduct the empirical study. User’s possible determinants were deducted by the literature review. And questionnaires were sent to survey the factors that influence contracting carriers and actual carriers to implement the e-booking system. The study results indicated that, except the factors of perceived ease of use, information security, trading partners' influence and environmental uncertainty, there’re several determinants that affect the carriers’ attitude toward adopting e-booking system. The perceived usefulness, the support from senior executives, and the compatibility with organizational operations are important aspects that influence contracting carriers and actual carriers’ user attitude greatly. The selection behavior model constructed by the study provides a reference for the shipping liner carriers to evaluate the strategic effectiveness of the development and the implement of the e-booking system.

Booking system plays an important role in perishable asset such as transportation industry, hotel industry and car rent industry. The concept of Revenue Management solves the problem of perishable asset by using forecasting, allocation, price discrimination and overbooking policy. However, Taiwan Railway Administration’s current system does not allow for price discrimination and overbooking policy. The problem here is resource allocation, we therefore focused on the volume of resource and the timing for the availability of resource. In this research, we constructed a simulation model and assume there are three kinds of customers namely, travel agent, businessman and normal customers, each with individual booking behavior in the booking system. We have three ticket-get date polices, two days, three days and five days. We also have three resource policies, policy 1 is full allowance in the beginning, policy 2 is half allowance in the beginning and full allowance after a week and policy 3 is extra 10% of resource allowance. We use simulation Arena 11, to simulate different population as our scenario and use four indexes: success booking rate, refund rate, cancel rate and failure rate to describe their conditions. We also use four indexes, revenue, society resource, same weight on revenue and society resource and value to measure the performance in each policy. The results showed out that on the value side, the best combination of policy is resource policy 2 with 5 days. The current get time policy is 2 days, if we cannot change the get time policy, we would rather choose the resource policy 2 than resource policy 1. We also recommend the regulation for refund that is similar to Japan, China or Korea as percentage of ticket price rather than a fix number. The best combination is also the 5 days and resource policy 3.

Starting from 2003, as the tourism industry rising up, the Industrial Development Bureau Ministry of Economic Affairs has started to help the historical, cultural and traditional factory operating the tourism service and assisting enterprises which need to transform to be tourism services and live activated factories mixed with manufacture, historical culture and tourism function. The number of tourists visiting factories has increasing enormously because of well planning marketing strategies. BRAND's Health Museum visitors have increased year by year, the amount of calls for appointments as well as the visitors data processing loading have increased accordingly. This leads to the increase of workload on the museum managing staff. However, there is no “Visitor Booking Management System” to manage this issue. In order to solve this problem, company has considered several potential options. Among these option, CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) and adopting ARTECH AD130 solution have been considered since they may reduce workload and improve service quality. However, the cost is too high for most traditional industries with limited budget. Therefore, this study focuses on developing a low cost Visitor Booking Management System Caller ID Recognition using image recognition. The system allows managing staff know instantly the caller information, including name, city, county, and information of history of visitor, before answering the phone. According to our survey, this system can not only improve service quality, but may also reduce the operating time and staff workload.

Smart hostel is an important tourism issue in the future. To improve the smooth operation of the hotel business, as well as the experience and occupancy experience of the user before the reservation. Within the interview hotel manager, it is found that the check-in is a very im-portant of the hotel. It is often confirmed by manual verification. In this thesis, a reservation system is presented, includes the pricing analysis assistant program to help the hotel manager the pricing trend and a competitive position of set room rate. A property management system is used to manage hotel room arrangements, order manage-ment, and room cleaning. This proposed system applied to the Ximen Street Corner hotel in Ximending, where the field trial operation is carried out and the function is adjusted by feedback from the industry. Therefore, this thesis develops a check-in system with electronic pay-ment, which allows visitors to easily pay for the electronic payment and check-in. The system is used to reduce the repetitive and cumber-some check-in process. At the same time, it can reduce the workload of counter staff and concentrate on serving guests to improve the quality of stay.

In present, the tourism market in Taiwan, in addition to Government promotion on tourism industry policies, along with the depreciation of the Japanese yen leads to rising number of tourists traveling to Japan, as well as an increasing influx of foreign tourists traveling to Taiwan, open policy on backpacking towards Chinese tourists, and the rising trend of weekend traveling, the travel industry competition pattern is shifting from travel packages to custom made traveling services. As to the accommodation industry, hotels are looking to increase occupancy by improving online booking system efficiency, thereby to increase customer satisfaction and reduce conversion intent. From the perspectives of perceived costs, perceived quality and perceived risk relationships, this study attempts to explore different dimensions of relationships between perceived costs, perceived quality and perceived risk as well as the factors that affect customer switching intentions. Participants of this study comprised members who follow the three online booking systems, Agoda, Booking.com and EZHOTEL. Data were collected via online survey. For the pretest, 315 responses were completed and 245 were valid, the effective recovery ratio is 77.7%; and as to the formal questionnaire, 835 responses were completed and 709 were valid, the effective recovery ratio is 84.91%. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to test the proposed model and the structural model has shown a good fit. The findings illustrate several significant results as following: (1) Perceived price and perceived quality are predictors of user satisfaction. (2) From the results within the hypothesis model, swtiching Costs and financial risk does not have significant effect on user satisfaction, user satisfaction does not have significant effect on switching intention, as the other nine paths are fully supported. (3) In the multi-group analysis, dividing into three groups of “Agoda booking system”, “Booking.com booking system”, and “EZHOTEL booking system”, the path results of these three groups are different. According to the overall results of the “Agoda booking system” group, switching costs, perceived service quality, and financial risk does not have significant effect on user satisfaction; From the results of the “Booking.com booking system” group, perceived price and perceived risk is the main factor that influences switching intention; The results of the “EZHOTEL booking system” group has shown, user satisfaction has the strongest effect on switching intention. (4) Regarding to mediate effects, perceived risk partially mediates the relationship between perceived price and switching intention, and perceived website quality partially mediates the relationship between customer expectations and user satisfaction. In conclusion, this study also provides practical implications and suggestions for the managers of the online booking system.

Information technologies and Internet applications are rapidly growing. The more users rely on the Internet, the more services and products are provided on the nets. More choices and options might cause difficult decisions to make. Therefore, Web Based Self Services (WBSS) has been proposed and provided for confusion reductions. However, it is difficult to judge that the WBSS has reached its purposes to increase user satisfaction. In the past, most themes for study focus on the discussion of information technology more than on the aspect of services. These years, the way trade of net is getting more frequently, and therefore it’s very important to consider the customers’ satisfaction degree. This study tries to build the aspects of service to discuss that whether adopting Smart Agent functionalities on Electronic Commerce satisfies customers or not. The conclusions of this study can be a reference for services and developments of involving Smart Agent functionalities on Electronic Commerce in the future.
