Abstract:
This essay focuses on the many “baby books” currently available that consist mainly of photographs of of other images of babies, and considers how these images might represent replications or restagings of the mirror stage and function as versions of the Ideal-I for their implied baby viewers. As images of actual children, the photographs in these books represent what most adult viewers take to be the most realistic representations of babyhood possible––the way babies actually look, which, in the context of Lacan’s Ideal-I, might better be understood as the way babies are actually supposed to look as currently understood. In terms of conventional adult assumptions about how baby viewers might look at and understand these images in relation to themselves, these images quite literally restage the mirror stage––show the baby an image of a baby to identify with and see as what it ought to be itself. By considering the implications of a number of photographs and other images of of babies in baby books, the essay explores what these books tell their implied baby reader/viewers about what it means to be a baby, and about what is the right kind of baby to be.

Abstract:
PARENTS' ( n = 113) OPINIONS OF early storybook reading (ESR) with their baby or toddler (newborn to three-years-old) and their home reading practices were explored using a questionnaire. Parents from both a more advantaged socioeconomic area and less advantaged socioeconomic area were included. The results signified that parents value ESR and participate in regular ESR with their baby. However, data suggests that some parents have difficulty choosing suitable books and have limited knowledge of how to promote early communication skills while sharing the storybook with their baby. Parents from the less advantaged area reported a lower frequency of ESR, owned fewer children's books and demonstrated more difficulties with book selection compared with parents from a more advantaged area. Future research targeting education on book selection and strategies to facilitate babies' early communication development during ESR may be beneficial to maximise the effectiveness of ESR on young children's language and social skill development.

Abstract:
The article is concerned with the first Russian translation of Charles Kingsley’s (1819–1875) The Water Babies (1863), one of the most controversial children’s books written by a British author: rich in allusions and quotations and disguised as a fairy tale, it features a powerful social commentary and a stinging satire of the Victorian society. On the back of the popularity of British children’s books, the novel was translated and published in 1874 — the second major work by C. Kingsley (who had been generously promoted by A. Kraevsky on the pages of Otechestvennye Zapiski) to have been printed in Russia, and the first ever translation of The Water Babies. The book, under the Russian title of The Adventures of Fomushka, the Chimney-Sweep, above Ground and under Water [Priklyucheniya Fomushki-trubochista na zemle i pod vodoyu], was lavishly illustrated, boasted a large print run and was extensively advertised in periodicals; yet it proved to be a failure. Its publication undermined Kingsley’s popularity in Russia and allowed ‘pochvennichestvo’- leaning reviewers to question the value of English children’s literature in general.

Abstract:
Introduction: The indication of oral hygiene in edentulous babies is still controversial among health professionals, being necessary the search of this recommendation and the standardization of information. Objective: To investigate critically the evidence related to the indication of oral hygiene for edentulous babies. Methods: The search for articles was performed in the PUBMED, LILACS and GOOGLE SCHOLAR databases, in order to assess the following question: "Can oral cavity hygiene of edentulous babies influence oral microbiota? A search in 8 books of Pediatric Dentistry was also performed. Results: 317 articles were found (167-PUBMED, 146-GOOGLE SCHOLAR and 4-LILACS). There were no primary studies that evaluated the effect of oral hygiene of edentulous infants on microbiota, which impair the conduction of a systematic review. Thus, it was included for this review six studies that investigated microorganisms in the oral cavity of edentulous infants and the role of salivary immunoglobulins. Among the textbooks evaluated, only 4 indicated the oral hygiene in edentulous infants. Conclusion: According to the data, there are no primary studies that assessed the effect of oral hygiene in the oral microbiota of edentulous babies. It is relevant to conduct clinical studies in order to obtain scientific evidence about the indication or no of the oral hygiene in edentulous babies.

Abstract:
Toddlers are an age that is susceptible to developmental problems. An important period in the process of child development is the first five years which is the golden period of an individual's life or known as the golden period. Growth and development in children occurs throughout life which consists of several stages, one of which is the toddler period. Toddler period is in the range from childhood starting to walk alone until they walk and run easily, which is approaching the age of 12 to 36 months. This study aims to analyze the development of social personality in infants and toddlers. The method used in this research is a qualitative method using library research methods. Library research is research conducted using library materials, either in the form of books, notes or other reference sources. The results of the study showed that the development of social personality in infants in general is usually the first experience of socialization for babies with their mothers. At the age of 2 months (social period), infants are responsive to humans and non-humans. At 6 months, social smiles begin to appear, at 9-13 months, babies try to touch other babies' clothes, faces, hair, and imitate their behavior and voice. At the age of 16-18 months, babies begin to show negativism. Ages 18-24 months, babies are interested in playing with other babies and use play materials to form social relationships with them. Age 22-24 months, babies want to cooperate in a number of routine activities, such as bathing, eating, dressing

Abstract:
In this article, we present an excerpt from our Professional Master's research defended in September 2022. It was guided by the following question: How to sensitize educators, in training moments, so that they advance in listening to babies? The general objective was to verify how teachers' awareness of listening to babies in a day care center occurs in the context of the pandemic. The universe of the research was a Municipal School of Basic Education located in the municipality of São Bernardo do Campo/SP, which caters exclusively to the nursery stage. The methodology used was of a qualitative nature and as instruments for data production we resorted to the life narratives of two teachers and the assistant in education of a Nursery class, as well as three proposals agreed together to raise awareness in listening to babies, in addition to the analysis of teaching records through logbooks, life books and individual reports, with regard to listening in the different phases of school attendance during the pandemic period. All material produced was analyzed in the light of Laurence Bardin's content analysis. The theoretical framework was based on authors of Critical Pedagogy. The results indicate that, for the teachers to effectively listen to the babies, they need awareness and ongoing training in service, in order to base their positions in defense of the principles present in participatory pedagogies, with theoretical knowledge about the importance of listening, as well as reflective partnerships who also relate to babies inside and outside the institution.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: ASI eksklusif, e-book, pengabdian masyarakat ABSTRACT Breast milk is the first and primary food and drink for babies from birth until the age of two. Exclusive breastfeeding is given to the babies from birth to the age of six months without any other additional foods and drinks except medicines and vitamins. The content of breast milk is highly useful for babies. However, data from the Basic Health Research in 2018 showed that the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding is still 44%. The low level of exclusive breastfeeding practice may cause the babies to have poor nutritional status and a risk of experiencing diarrhea 14-times higher than those who are fully breastfed. Prevention was needed to reduce the incidence, one of which is by providing health education on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding through e-books. This community service aimed to increase maternal knowledge about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and how to store breast milk properly so that it could hopefully reduce the incidence of diarrhea and poor nutritional status in the sub-district of Jetis, Sukoharjo. The method used in this community service was lectured by presenting materials about exclusive breastfeeding and how to store breast milk properly using the e-books through the anyflip application. This community service had been carried out for six months, starting from the assessment to the evaluation stages. The results showed an increase in the knowledge of the postpartum mothers about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding by 77,78%; the level of knowledge increased from 22,22% (less knowledge) to 100% (enough knowledge). Based on this result, it is expected that pregnant women prepare themselves early for exclusive breastfeeding after the baby is born to improve the level of health of the community. New York, NY: Bantam; 1984; list price $4.95 (#14 on the 1988 bestseller list of books on child care of the Ingram Book Co, distributors of trade books). Covering prenatal and infant development, the author relies on a multivariate theory of development in which the parents' roles include controller of environments, model of ideal behavior, nurturer, and instructor. Parents have identical roles. Management methods are generally behavioral and include positive reinforcement, both social and tangible, as well as punishment. Methods are designed to be preventive, corrective, and instructive. Specific practices in child-rearing and development are covered in detail and are based on empirical studies. The author is sensitive to parents' needs and fears and addresses other social issues such as environmental pressures, but not the needs of exceptional children. Intact families and material resources are presumed. The text is wellorganized, and development is detailed in month-by-month charts, photographs, and descriptions. It is moderately difficult to read. The medical content was rated as excellent with the exception of the outdated immunization schedule.

Abstract:
Breast milk (ASI) is the best and most perfect source of nutrition for babies, especially premature babies. ASI contains complete nutrients for optimal growth and development in terms of mental and physical aspects of the baby, especially in the first six months of life. The features and advantages of mother's milk not only recognized in Islam have even been recognized by researchers from medical, science and lactation experts. The writing of this article aims to discuss the need for sharia compliant milk banks for premature babies. This study uses a qualitative approach using content analysis methods that focus on the textbooks, books, journals, articles and reports. The results of the discussion found that mother's milk contained many of the benefits needed by premature babies. When compared with formula milk, the nutritional content of breast milk is much better. There are several reasons why breastfeeding is now the main requirement in Malaysia, one of them is for premature babies. With this, the government seeks to meet ASI's needs by establishing a shariah compliant milk bank for mothers with breastfeeding problems. The results of the discussion found that Islam not only acknowledged the efficacy of ASI, it also emphasized the problem of maternal and adolescent mahram relationships. Therefore, the established milk bank must be in accordance with the guidelines set by the jurisprudence and the schools of Imam Shafi'i. In addition to needs, milk banks also provide benefits for Muslims by seeing an increase in premature baby birth statistics in Malaysia. It is in this condition of the emergency phase that a compliant sharia milk bank needs to be established. The milk bank that will be established can avoid the occurrence of problems overlapping the mahram according to the principle of Maqasid al-Shari'ah in the maintenance of implantable mahram purity.

Abstract:
During the pandemic babies should get breast milk because it has a high risk compared to the general population. Knowledge of lactation management during the pandemic is very necessary because it will determine the success of mothers in breastfeeding. However, in a pandemic situation direct counseling on lactation management cannot be done because it must keep a distance. Therefore, effective media is needed for counseling without making direct contact. The purpose of the research is to find out the most appropriate media to provide counseling on lactation management during the pandemic. This research is based on methods including correlation studies with quantitative approaches. Respondents in the study used 30 nursing mothers in Padengo Village and Poowo Village, Bone Bolango Gorontalo Regency. Respondents were taken randomly. The measuring instrument uses 30 questions that have been conducted validity and reliability tests. Respondents were given three different media for counseling on lactation management while breastfeeding, namely books, leaflets and powerpoints. Then knowledge is measured by questionnaires. As a result, the average knowledge of mothers who are given counseling using animated book media is better than leaflets and powerpoints. The results of the data analysis using Anova Test averaged the value of maternal knowledge given by the book media had the highest score of 23.90. Which means books are better for improving breastfeeding mothers' knowledge of lactation management compared to leaflets and powerpoints.

Abstract:
This writing aims to describe the spiritual renewal of Christian life based on 1 Peter 2:1-4. In this paper using exegesis and qualitative descriptive approach, by collecting data through the Bible, other literature books such as journals, interviews and documents related to the object of research. In Christian life, spiritual renewal is a priority for church leaders. However, spiritual renewal is certainly inseparable from various challenges and problems. Allegedly at this time the lives of believers still prioritize deception and have a hypocritical nature and the habit of slandering others. As a result, spiritual renewal in the lives of believers occurs because they live in holiness, become healthy spiritual babies and live relying on God. In conclusion, to increase spiritual renewal, God's people must be like babies who have just come into the world, namely thirsty for milk that has not sinned and is spiritual, because believers have received salvation

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Currently, intrauterine dentistry is a highly relevant topic, as its preventive measures can avoid several diseases, such as dental caries. Pregnancy is the ideal time for preventive and educational health measures to be put into practice, since future mothers are more receptive to changes and avid for knowledges that ensure the well-being of their baby.OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work is to carry out a systematized review in a database regarding the interrelationship between the oral health care of the pregnant women and the development of healthy habits for babies.METHODS: An exploratory bibliographic research was performed in books and databases through an online search in the literature. It was carried out a non-systematic review in the period between 1981 and 2015, in which the databases were LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, PUBMED and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), using as descriptors: intrauterine dentistry; dentistry for babies; dental cavity; prevention; infants; prenatal dentistry; behavior; habits; pregnant women. It was also consulted textbooks and periodicals available in the library at Campus I of University of Western São Paulo.CONCLUSION: It was concluded that dental care for pregnant woman is important for the development of good habits in children, where the level of mothers’ knowledge about oral health will influence the prevalence of caries in their children.

Abstract:
In Córdoba, Argentina, a library of books once banned by the military junta's censors (1976–83) now resides at a center called the Espacio para la Memoria (“Space for Memory”). The site, where prisoners were once held and tortured, houses workshops inviting schoolchildren to think about this terrifying period in their history. Under the junta, even children's books were banned, and after reading a few of these titles with the children who visit the center, the workshop leaders ask them why they think the books were prohibited. One of the reasons the censors gave for prohibition was that these books offered “unlimited fantasy.” To explore this idea, in one workshop the kids sang the song “The Backward Kingdom” (“El reino del revés”), by the well-known Argentine singer María Elena Walsh. After hearing the charming lyrics (birds swim, fish fly, babies have beards, 2 + 2 = 3, etc.), students brainstormed to generate their own inside-out or upside-down examples. One child mentioned raining up, another suggested that big kids nap while little kids play, and a third proposed cars driving on the sidewalk while kids play in the street. Upset by this disorder, one of the children exclaimed, “No, that's impossible!” until the boy who imagined cars on sidewalks explained, “But we're just imagining!” His classmate responded, “Oh, okay, in that case it's possible.”

Abstract:
This paper comprises a collection of illustrations, along with background information, analysis, and commentary, from “baby books”—advice books published in the United States for a parent audience from the 1890s to the 1980s. These publications, and especially their drawings and photos, provide a window on past child rearing practices and beliefs. The paper provides historical background on parenting behaviors such as toilet training and infant feeding, then traces changes over time through drawings and photos that appeared in parenting advice publications. These publications grew in popularity as changing work and family structures removed traditional sources of information for parents, and scientific information and expert guidance took their place. Publications from a variety of sources, but especially the U.S. Children’s Bureau, are explored. A finding of note is that images of babies and their families, which in earlier publications were entirely white and middle class, became more diverse over time. The author concludes that published parental advice from professionals made for a fascinating study, was ideologically driven, and often lacked a basis in empirical scientific knowledge of child development, and therefore asserts that parents may regard such advice conditionally.

Abstract:
This essay examines print literature targeting American mothers of infants from the turn of the twentieth century through the 1950s, analyzing text excerpts from “baby books” spanning six decades and providing background illuminating those texts and their authors. Books authored by Benjamin Spock, Arnold Gesell, and John B. Watson are reviewed, along with work of less well-known but widely read authors Emmett Holt, Herman Bundesen, and others. Changes in recommended feeding and toilet-training practices, sleeping arrangements, and behavioral expectations of babies, as well as the variation in style and tone of the experts’ advice are traced through the period studied. Parent advice publications grew in popularity as changing family structures removed traditional sources of information and support for mothers, and the public came to highly regard scientific information and seek expert guidance in aspects of their lives previously governed by traditional wisdom. Included are publications of the federal Children’s Bureau and discussion of that agency’s role in advising parents through printed literature. Findings from this review assert that despite the advice-givers’ presentation of their recommendations as universal and scientific, their writings more accurately serve as a chronicle of changing patterns of beliefs and attitudes of middle-class society rather than an empirical body of knowledge about infant growth and development.

Abstract:
Providing decent food (breastmilk) to support the growth of children is one of the obligations of their parents and it is the gift that is given to a mother by Allah (God). This research is library research (literature research), which uses the interpretation of the Tafsir Al Misbah, the literature from books, journals, dictionaries, and other papers related to this research. It has been proven that breast milk is the best food for babies because of the diverse and complete nutritional content. The main content of breastmilk is 88% of the water that removes excess solute. Breast milk also contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, hormones, and growth factors. According to Quraish Shihab, radha’ah is interpreted as breastfeeding. In this case, he interpreted radha’ah as breastfeeding although breastfeeding recommendations in surah al-Baqarah is in the form of Khabar (information/news), but it means an order which obliges all mothers to carry out breastfeeding for up to two years with the responsibility of fathers in providing the needs of the family. However, it is permissible for parents to wean their children before two years if this can be bothersome, and it is also permissible for parents to let their children breastfed by other than their biological mothers if the mother is unable to breastfeed her child by herself. However, babies that are breastfeeding from other women will form a nasab (lineage) which means the baby will be forbidden to get married to a child of the woman that breastfed the baby.

Abstract:
The 1994 elections were watershed elections in several respects. Perhaps most significantly, the Republicans gained control of both chambers of Congress for the first time since 1953. In the process, the 1994 elections also swept into office a large, relatively homogeneous group of 73 House Republican freshmen determined to change the political system. With size comes an opportunity for power in Congress, and the 73 Republican freshmen elected in 1994 were determined to exert considerable influence over the legislative process. Not since the 1974 elections produced the 76 freshmen Democrats (i.e., the Watergate Babies) have political scientists focused so much attention on a single class of legislators. Timothy Barnett's Legislative Learning is a nice complement to similar books already written about this interesting group of legislators, including Richard Fenno and Michael Armacost's Learning to Govern: An Institutional View of the 104th Congress (1997) and Nicol Rae's Conservative Reformers: The Republican Freshmen and the Lessons of the 104th Congress (1998).

Abstract:
Wet nurses, i.e. hired breast-feeders of babies, were the subject matter of this research. It aims to systematize the advice that was formulated on the pages of “how-to” books regarding the search for, recruitment, and treatment of wet nurses in the homes of one’s charges. The specific duties of wet nurses that were especially expected of them are determined, as well as the errors most frequently committed in their performance, which the authors of how-to books described at length, in order to warn mothers against the incompetence of paid breast-feeders. A comparison of the views of authors of “how-to” books over nearly 70 years will allow us to determine a possible evolution of views regarding wet nursing. The “how-to” books on health, hygiene, and education from the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century (the period approximately from 1850-1918), published in Polish areas and addressed mainly at families, especially mothers, form the source material for the research. The use of this type of literature will allow us to reconstruct the promulgated image of wet nursing without broader reference to providing help for them, which is worth confronting with the “how-to” recommendations, attempting to determine whether, and to what extent, they were reflected in everyday life (e.g. using epistolary or archival sources, and memoirs). Nevertheless, the authors of “how-to” books also referred to the practice of tending infants and young children, criticizing inappropriate behaviour of wet nurses, while the recommendations formulated by them were to remedy inappropriate behaviour occurring in reality. The issue of wet nursing has not hitherto been analysed in detail in Polish historiography. In recent years, though, a few texts or papers in which one can find more or less extensive information (the less extensive ones predominate) related to breastfeeding by wet nurses in the Polish areas in the Middle Ages, the period of Old Poland, or the partition period, have been published. Thus, it seems even more reasonable to explore this issue, which will help to fill a gap in the development of the history of breastfeeding, nursing, and tending infants and small children.

Abstract:
A Review of: McKechnie, Lynne (E.F.). “ ‘Spiderman is not for Babies’ (Peter, 4 Years): The ‘Boys and Reading Problem’ from the Perspective of the Boys Themselves.” The Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science 30.1/2 (2006): 57-67. Objective – This study looks at what constitutes legitimate reading material for boys and how this material is defined in light of assessed gender differences in reading, and is part of a larger, ongoing research project on the role of public libraries in the development of youth as readers. Design – Semi-structured, qualitative interviews and book inventories. Setting – The research originated from the MLIS 566 (Literature for Children and Young Adults) class at the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. Subjects – Forty-three boys, ages four through twelve, were interviewed. Most of the boys lived in Ontario, although a few came from other Canadian provinces. Methods – Library school students who were registered in a Literature for Children and Young Adults class interviewed children and young adults about their reading and information practice as part of a “Book Ownership Case Study” assignment. The researcher also interviewed children and young adults, for a total of 137 case studies. For the purpose of this article, a data subset for the 43 boys included in the larger project was analyzed. The boys ranged in age from four to twelve years. The mean age was eight and the median age was nine. The theoretical perspective of reader response theory was used to situate the study. This theory has the relationship between the text and the reader as its focus, and it suggests that to understand the reading habits of boys, there needs to be recognition that the experts about their reading are the boys themselves. The interviews, which explored reading preferences and practices, were qualitative, semi-structured, and took thirty minutes to complete. In addition to the interview, each boy’s personal book and information material collection was inventoried. The researcher used a grounded theory approach to analyze the inventory and interview data to pull out themes related to the research questions. Grounded theory “uses a prescribed set of procedures for analyzing data and constructing a theoretical model” from the data (Leedy and Ormrod 154). Main Results – The collection inventories revealed that all 43 study participants had personal collections of reading materials. The collections ranged from eight volumes to 398 volumes. There was a mean volume total of 108 and a median of 98 books per boy. In addition to books, other materials were in the collections. Video recordings were owned by 36 (83.7%) of the boys, 28 (65.1%) of participants had computer software, 28 (65.1%) owned audio recordings, and 21 (48.8%) of the collections also included magazines. In the interview data analysis, a number of themes were revealed. All of the boys except one owned fiction. Some genres appeared frequently and were different than the ones found in the inventories taken of the girls in the larger study. Genres in the boys’ collections included fantasy, science fiction, sports stories, and humorous stories. The boys also discussed genres they did not enjoy: classic children’s fiction, such as The Adventures of Robin Hood, love stories, and “books about groups of girls” (61). All but five boys had series books such as Animorphs, Captain Underpants, Redwall, and Magic Treehouse in their collections. All study participants except for one owned non-fiction titles. When asked what their favourite book was, many of the boys chose a non-fiction title. Holdings included subjects such as “jokes, magic, sports, survival guides, crafts, science, dictionaries, maps, nature, and dinosaurs” (62). In addition to books, the boys reported owning and reading a wide range of other materials. Comics, manga, magazines, pop-up and other toy books, sticker books, colouring books, puzzle books, and catalogues were among the collection inventories. Only one boy read the newspaper. Another theme that emerged from the interview data was “gaming as story” (63). The boys who read video game manuals reported reading to learn about the game, and also reading to experience the game’s story. One boy’s enjoyment of the manual and the game came from the narrative found within. Various reading practices were explored in the interviews. Formats that featured non-linear reading were popular. Illustrations were important. Pragmatic reading, done to support other activities (e.g., Pokeman), was “both useful and pleasurable” (54). And finally, the issue of what counts as reading emerged from the data. Many boys discounted the reading that “they liked the best as not really being reading” (65). Some of the boys felt that reading novels constituted reading but that the reading of computer manuals or items such as science fair project books was “not really reading” (65). A distinction was made between real books and information books by the boys. Conclusions – The researcher explored what has been labelled as the “problem” of boys reading in this paper. She found that the 43 boys in this study are reading, but what they are reading has been undervalued by society and by the boys themselves. Collection inventories found a large number of non-fiction books, computer magazines, comic books, graphic novels, and role-playing game manuals—items not necessarily privileged by libraries, schools, or even by the boys themselves. The researcher suggests that “part of the ‘boys and reading problem’ then lies in what we count as reading” (66). By keeping what boys are actually reading in mind when it comes to collection development and library programming, children’s librarians can “play a central role in legitimizing the reading practices of boys” (66).
