Abstract:
Rock oysters of the genus Saccostrea are the dominating group of filter-feeding communities on rocky beaches worldwide. The edible rock oyster (Saccostrea cucullata) is used as food and fish bait along the Indian coast. Morphometric analyses of S. cucullata from Baindur, Karnataka (India) were performed from June 2010 to May 2011, aiming to establish relationships between length and weight (total weight, shell weight, meat wet weight and meat dry weight). Morphometric relationships between length (L)-breadth (B) and length (L)-width (W) were B = 6.4952 + 0.4619 L and W = 3.1806 + 0.3276L, respectively. The equations of the length (L)-total weight (TW), length (L)-shell weight (SW), length (L)-meat wet weight (WW) and length (L)-meat dry weight (DW) were TW = 0.001227L2.3973, SW = 0.001165L2.3164, WW = 0.000037L2.1327 and DW = 0.000030L2.3289, respectively. The allometric growth pattern revealed changes in shell shape and weight variation throughout ontogeny in rocky habitats. The condition index and meat yield of S. cucullata exhibited seasonality, with higher values recorded during the periods post-monsoon and pre-monsoon.

Abstract:
AbstractNearly boron-free kornerupine is locally abundant in pods or lenses of coarse-grained, non-foliated, Mg- and Al-rich rocks that occur at high metamorphic grades in early Proterozoic metapelitic rocks from the Reynolds Range, Northern Territory, Australia. This is the third reported occurrence of boron-free kornerupine worldwide. The samples consist almost entirely of coarse-grained kornerupine and its breakdown products sapphirine, cordierite, and gedrite or orthopyroxene. The kornerupine contains only 0.45 wt.% B2O3, corresponding to 0.098 B atoms per 22 (O, OH), and closely approximates 11:10:11 in terms of molar ratios of (MgO + FeOtotal):Al2O3:SiO2, with XMg = Mg/(Mg + Fetotal) = 0.874. The unusual textures and bulk compositions of the rocks in the pods are interpreted to have resulted from metasomatism and high-grade metamorphism (750 to 800° and ∼ 4.5 kbar) of precursors that may have included sedimentary Mg-rich clays. Rocks containing boron-poor, and relatively boronrich kornerupine (2.18 wt.% B2O3; XMg = 0.892) are separated in outcrop by as little as 10 m of the foliated cordierite-quartzite country rock and other rock types, suggesting that the compositions or amounts of the metasomatic fluids varied on a local scale.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Rho-associated kinase (ROCK), including the ROCK-I and ROCK-II isoforms, is a protein kinase involved in signaling from Rho to actin cytoskeleton. However, in vivo functions of each ROCK isoform remain largely unknown. We generated mice deficient in ROCK-II by gene targeting. ROCK-II−/− embryos were found at the expected Mendelian frequency until 13.5 days postcoitum, but approximately 90% died thereafter in utero. ROCK-II−/− mice of both genders that survived were born runts, subsequently developed without gross abnormality, and were fertile. Whole-mount staining for a knocked-in lacZ reporter gene revealed that ROCK-II was highly expressed in the labyrinth layer of the placenta. Disruption of architecture and extensive thrombus formation were found in the labyrinth layer of ROCK-II−/− mice. While no obvious alteration in actin filament structures was found in the labyrinth layer of ROCK-II−/− placenta and stress fibers were formed in cultured ROCK-II−/− trophoblasts, elevated expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 was found in ROCK-II−/− placenta. These results suggest that ROCK-II is essential in inhibiting blood coagulation and maintaining blood flow in the endothelium-free labyrinth layer and that loss of ROCK-II leads to thrombus formation, placental dysfunction, intrauterine growth retardation, and fetal death.

Abstract:
There is no preferential partitioning of boron among the principal rock-forming minerals in high-grade rocks of the Kapuskasing Structural Zone (KSZ) and the Wawa Domal Gneiss region (WDG). Lithium is strongly concentrated in biotite and other ferromagnesian minerals but does not show consistent partitioning between these and the sialic minerals. The distribution of B and Li within a rock may be studied using an alpha-track image, which shows that the inconsistencies in partitioning may be largely attributed to disturbance of mineral equilibria by postmetamorphic low-grade alteration that deposited B and Li.Boron has similar concentrations in all the rock types studied, although it is an incompatible element that elsewhere accumulates in pegmatites. Lithium concentrations are low in the anorthositic rocks but are otherwise very variable. In some but not all rocks higher than usual B and Li can be attributed to introduction during alteration.Boron occurs at low concentrations (2–3 ppm) throughout both the KSZ and the WDG areas and has an abundance similar to that in other granulite terranes. It is significantly lower than in average upper crustal rocks (9–15 ppm), and this is attributed to loss by fluid transport during formation of lower crustal material. Lithium occurs at similar concentrations in upper crustal rocks (20–22 ppm) as in the WDG area (27 ppm) but is lower in the KSZ (13 ppm), suggesting again a loss by fluid transport in the deep crust. Both estimates of loss are minima because of the evidence of reintroduction of the elements during later alteration.Although there is field and petrological evidence of anatectic melting in the KSZ–WDG region the distribution patterns of B and Li show no evidence of this: this is not unexpected for elements that readily partition into a fluid phase.

Abstract:
Petrogale assimilis has a typical life history and reproductive ecology for a macropodid of its size. Both sexes are capable of reproducing continuously; gestation is about the same length as the oestrous cycle (approximately one month); a single young is born and, a post-partum oestrus and embryonic diapause probably occurs. The sex ratio of young is unbiased. Pouch young remain permanently attached to the teat until 110 - 143 days (n=11). Permanent exit from the pouch occurs at 180 - 231 days (mean=201 days, n=25), and weaning occurs between 267 - 387 days (n=5). Sexual maturity occurs at a minimum age of 17.5 months in females and 23 months in males.

Abstract:
Several viable halophilic archaebacteria were isolated previously from rock salt of Permo-Triassic age in an Austrian salt mine; one of these strains was the first to be recognized as a novel species from subterranean halite and was designated Halococcus salifodinae. The halophilic microorganisms have apparently survived in the salt sediments over extremely long periods of time. Halobacteria could therefore be suitable model organisms for exploring the possibility of long-term survival of microbes on other planets, in particular, since extraterrestrial halite has been detected in meteorites and is assumed to be present in the subsurface ocean on Europa. Our efforts are directed at the identification of the microbial content of ancient rock salt and the development of procedures for the investigation of the halobacterial response to extreme environmental conditions. Using modified culture media, further halophilic strains were isolated from freshly blasted rock salt and bore cores; in addition, growth of several haloarchaea was substantially improved. Molecular methods indicated the presence of at least 12 different 16S rRNA gene species in a sample of Alpine rock salt, but these strains have not been cultured yet. The exploration of Mars is a target of space missions in the 21st century; therefore, testing the survival of haloarchaea under conditions comparable to present-day Mars, using a simulation chamber, was begun. Preliminary results with Halococcus and Halobacterium species suggested at least tenfold higher survival rates when cells were kept in liquid brines than under dry conditions; staining of cells with the LIVE–DEAD kit, which discriminates between damaged and intact membranes, corroborated these data.

Abstract:
The article deals with the study of the influence of paratype and genotypic factors on dairy productivity of cows under the conditions of Kherson region's economy. It was found that animals born in the fall had higher milk yields in the first, second and third lactations compared to peers born in other seasons, and amounted to 7967.4 kg, 85536.9 kg and 8868.6 kg, respectively. The predominance of autumn animals on milk yield, compared to those born in spring, was in the range of 4.1… 10.5%, in summer - 6.6… .11.1%. Analysis of one-factor complexes revealed a significant (P <0.01) force of influence of the season of birth and calving of first-borns on the milk yield and intensity of milk yield of the same level (6.00… .6.17%). The influence of other factors was significant and amounted to 93.8… 94.0%. The highest milk productivity was characterized by Holstein cows belonging to the Chif line. The average milk yield of the third lactation in the group of cows was 9954.5 kg, and exceeded that of other lines within this breed by 510.9… .363.2 kg (P <0.05). The largest difference in productivity of Holstein cow breed over the Ukrainian black and white breed was found among the animals of the Valiant line, which was higher by 1431.5 kg or 17.9%. The milk yield superiority of the different types of Starbak and Chifa breeds was 13.1% and 14.5% respectively. Regarding the Ukrainian black-and-white dairy breed, the lines tested were Chiff and Valiant, with yields of 8691.5 kg and 8012.1 kg, respectively. The two-factor ANOVA revealed that the rock factor had a vaild insignificant effect on the yield of 5.88% (P <0.01). The data from the analysis indicate that 90.6% of other factors are predominant

Abstract The sectional stresses (M, N) in a gallery lining are computed comparatively numerical by FEM taking into account the interaction underground structure - surrounding ground and analytical by Protodiakonov method. The last method is based on coincidence arch born in ground over gallery. Comprehensive analyses allow to settle the domain in which Protodiakonov method can be applied as well as the conditions in which discharge arches appear in ground above underground or embedded structures. The study is available for galleries (tunnels) built so that their lining takes loads from undeformed ground (rock) mass surrounding gallery, existent before excavation.

Abstract:
During drilling at Borg, ca. 5 km southwest of central Norrköping, an unidentified fine-grained grey rock was encountered in contact with dark red granitic gneiss at 35m depth. The fine-grained grey rock occurs above the red granitic gneiss. Our understanding prior to testing is that the rock may have been formed by fluid alteration of a mafic rock, as neither metamorphic nor sedimentary textures were observed. Understanding this rock and the formation processes related to it, is of interest for the general understanding of the region and of geotechnical importance since fracture fillings may affect the stability of the rock during and after construction projects. This study uses the methods petrography, XRD and XRF to define the fine-grained mafic rock, black vein in the fine-grained mafic rock, the contact zone and the granitic gneiss. Results show that the fine-grained grey rock has a composition of muscovite (36.1%), quartz (24.6%), albite (20.8%), sericite (10.8) and montmorillonite (0.5%). The contact is mainly made of quartz veins and calcite veins. The protolith of the fine-grained mafic rock is suggested to be iron-rich. Further testing on additional unaltered mafic rock samples from the area would provide a more accurate picture of the protolith evolution.

Abstract:
The sea was first a real geographical space in Chateaubriand’s life, the boundless playing field of his childhood. By unfurling the world at large under his gaze, the sea provided him with a singular mode of appropriating it. The author of the Mémoires d’outre-tombe claimed for himself the status of seaman, discoverer, and traveller. The maritime lexicon comes to him spontaneously. While he only spent seven years of his childhood by the sea, then subsequently stopped but briefly in foreign port of calls, he keeps on referring time and again to the sea, and incessantly reinstates it in his texts, thus elaborating a rich netwwork of echoes. His very style evokes the rhythm of the sea and its ever-changing harmonics. The reader always seems to hear resounding waves and backwash in the distance. It is as if the writer’s sensibility and imagination, bearing the stamp of a foundational landscape, had him perceive the world through the shades and against the backdrops peculiar to the shores he left. Chateaubriand anxiously wondered whether the Mémoires would remain readable to his posterity. But writing and the sea conjure up the same idea of eternity : they write in labile script everlasting songs

Abstract:
The research focuses on the fields of Born Globals and networks. The aim of the research is to explore the phenomena, unify preceding research on the topic and set ground for future, more in-depth research. This is achieved by finding out how Born Global companies benefit from networks in their early stages. The study is qualitative and conducted as a literature review on academic journals on the field of International Business. The findings of the study are that the nature of the Born Global companies’ environment poses constraints to the internationalization of the firms, and networks can help overcoming them. The conclusions of the study are that Born Globals face the following key constraints in their early stages: (1) Lack of financial and knowledge resources, (2) Lack of economies of scale and (3) Aversion to risk-taking; and that networks help Born Global companies to overcome them by providing access to both financial and knowledge resources, thus enabling them to spend less time on risky development phases. Networks also help by providing Born Global companies legitimacy in the eyes of foreign actors, thus making them attractive as partners.

Using data on 9th grade students in Sweden for the time period of 2015-2019, this paper estimates a fixed effects model to find out whether the share migrant students has any impact on the grade of foreign-born and native Swedish students. We find that increasing the share of migrant students by one percentage point has a small negative effect on foreign-born students, but find no conclusive evidence from the same effect on Swedish students. Furthermore, we find the effect to be the largest when the share of migrants in a municipality is high, suggesting that redistribution of migrants across municipalities would decrease the negative effect of an increase in migrant students.

Abstract:
The early 1990s saw the publication of important academic works on the subject of heavy metal music. These works were seminal in that they were the first to recognise and interrogate, in any substantial way, a topic that had been, until then, valued only as a cultural/sociological subject. Those ground-breaking works included Robert Walser's 1993 publication Running with The Devil: Power, Gender and Madness in Heavy Metal and Deena Weinstein's Heavy Metal: The Music and its Culture first published in 1991. Both works however, present heavy metal in broad terms, creating a wide paradigm that includes bands with widely differing musical syntax and aesthetic concerns (e.g. Cradle of Filth to Bon Jovi). These generalisations, being based on the perceived commonality of such concepts as power-chords and gendering, form something of a paradox that has been unquestioningly embraced by subsequent authors and so sustaining that opinion. I have challenged these generalisations and asserted that hard rock and heavy metal are distinctly different generic forms in both musical syntax and aesthetic. Moreover, I have argued that both Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were pivotal in the formation of heavy metal and hard rock respectively and that the first six albums of both bands were particularly significant to the generic evolution of both forms of music. Heavy metal has evolved and become an established form of music over the last three and a half decades but vitally retains the central coding established in Black Sabbath's early work, not least the consistent utilisation of key intervals such as the tritone and flat 2nd, modal riffs, down-tuned guitars, aggressive performance techniques, episodic structuring and anti-patriarchal themes. By contrast, Led Zeppelin made significant contributions to the evolution of hard rock through a re-working of blues-based themes and syntax and the development of an eclectic repertoire. This work deconstructs that evolutionary process, highlighting the distinct nature of both forms.

Abstract:
One of the main and most challenging environmental problems related to mining is the generation of acid rock drainage (ARD), a leachate characterized by low pH and elevated concentrations of sulfate, metals, and metalloids formed when sulfide-bearing minerals are subjected to oxygen and water. During the operation of a mine, waste rock is often deposited in heaps and usually left under ambient conditions, enabling sulfides to oxidize. Generated ARD is commonly treated actively with alkaline material in an attempt to raise the pH and precipitate metals, with subsequent formation of sludge, which requires additional treatment. To focus on the treatment of waste rock rather than the ARD could prevent the generation of ARD; reduce the lime consumption, costs, and sludge treatment. This thesis aims to identify and evaluate the potential of different industrial residues to maintain circumneutral pH in a sulfide oxidation environment, allowing secondary minerals to form on the reactive sulfide surface to prevent sulfide oxidation and generation of ARD. Five different industrial residues (blast furnace slag, granulated blast furnace slag, cement kiln dust, bark ash, and lime kiln dust) were selected in a feasibility study performed prior to this study. The selection was based primarily on their alkaline properties, availability, and early yield. The waste rock was selected due to its high content of sulfides (&gt;50%) and potential to generate ARD. Initial characterization of the industrial residues included combining mineralogical and chemical composition with batch testing (L/S 10). Sulfide oxidation in the leaching of the waste rock accelerated after week 29 resulting in high concentrations of major elements such as Al, Fe and S but also extremely high concentrations of e.g. As, Cu, Mn, Pb, Sb and Zn despite their relatively low content in the waste rock. Leaching was conducted during 14-153 weeks. The initial characterization implied that all of the studied industrial residues has the potential to prevent ARD generation. However, the enrichment and leachability of Pb in the cement kiln dust, as well as Cr and Zn in the bark ash, suggested the presence of elements of potential concern that could limit the use of the materials. When the industrial residues were added to the waste rock surface in small-scale laboratory test cells, blast furnace slag, granulated blast furnace slag, and cement kiln dust self-cemented and failed to maintain circumneutral pH, whereas bark ash (1wt.%) prevented acidity, metal and metalloid leaching. However, the use of bark ash may prove problematic due to the release of Cl, K, and Na likely related to salt dissolution. Lime kiln dust (5wt.%), the most promising of the industrial residues, maintained a circumneutral pH throughout the time of leaching, with an overall decrease of metal and metalloid concentrations by more than 99.9%. Results from investigations of secondary minerals formed combined with element release during the leaching period suggest that the addition of LKD to the waste rock led to decreasing concentrations of S in the leachate due to decreased sulfide oxidation, which subsequently led to gypsum dissolution. Moreover, the addition of LKD to the waste rock generated a lower amount of secondary minerals compared to when no addition was made. The results from these studies increase the understanding of advantages and limitations of using selected industrial residues in the treatment of mine waste. Moreover, it shows that a rather small amount of alkaline material, corresponding to 4% of the net neutralizing potential of waste rock, can prevent the acceleration of sulfide oxidation and subsequent release of sulfate, metals, and metalloids. However, the quantity and long-term stability of the formed secondary minerals need to be evaluated and understood before this method can be applied at larger scale.

Abstract:
A novel digital image analysis technique to measure the size of fragments on the surface of a muck-pile is presented in this thesis. The technique takes into consideration the physical characteristics of fragment representation and measurement problems. Using an adaptive smoothing filter prior to edge detection, each fragment on the surface is represented by a group of edge segments outlining its boundaries. These segments are then grouped to form continuous contours.<br>A multi-layer analysis of the digital image is then formulated where fragments on the surface are grouped into three layers, each of which is categorized by global characteristics and is related to other neighbouring layers by local characteristics. These local relationships between the layers are used to approximate the missing parts of the fragment contour.<br>An extensive analysis of the sieving process is used in building the relationship between the shape and the size of individual fragments. Using this relation, a new multivariable measure for each fragment is developed. These measures are used in estimating the size distribution of the muck-pile and compared with other existing measurement techniques. This comparison proves the robustness of the technique developed in this thesis.

Abstract:
Abstract Recovery from gas condensate reservoirs, when the pressure is below dew point pressure (Pdew), is adversely affected by the accumulation of condensate in the near wellbore region. The mitigation of the near-well bore condensate banking is the main purpose of any enhanced recovery method implemented in gas condensate reservoirs. In this work, a new method was tested to improve condensate recovery by using a chemical that was delivered using hydrocarbon gas as a carrier into a very low permeability and very low porosity reservoir rock. Chemicals are typically injected using liquid carrier solvents. The use of hydrocarbon gas as the carrier provides a remedy to mitigate condensate banking in very low permeability cores by minimizing complications associated with low injectivity and back flow clean-up process requirements of an injected liquid. The chemical potential was evaluated by recording production data from unsteady-state coreflood experiments. The injection of the chemical with equilibrated gas resulted in condensate saturation to decrease from 19.6% to 6.5%. This decrease was not instantaneous and took some time to occur indicating that the chemical needs time to interact with the resident fluid and rock. The benefit of the method, at the field scale, was also estimated by performing single-well numerical simulations that use relative permeability (kr) data which history matched the measured coreflood production data. The results of these preliminary simulations also showed improved recovery of gas and condensate compared to pure depletion, without chemical, by around 40% for the cases considered.

Abstract:
The restoration of Massafra’ Castle (TA)Massafra Castle’s restoration project aims to preserve and enhance the monument, redeeming it from the current state of partial abandonment, with the scope to return it to the community. First, an in-depth study of an historical research was carried out together with the analysis of the monument’ superficial and structural degradation to identify the adequate remedies. It was clear that “restoring only the stones” would have not been efficient and therefore finding a new purpose was necessary and essential. Finding a new scope for those kinds of architectures is a matter of great interest, because more than any other type of monuments, those are completely out of their historical context that gave them political, military and economic reason to be built. Therefore, following a sociological investigation, it emerged that the best solution would be create a connection between Massafra and cinematography: there are many cultural organizations in this area and most of them need more dedicated space. Massafra has already been chosen several times as a movie set by famous authors: Il Vangelo secondo Matteo by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Il Paese delle spose infelici by Pippo Mezzapesa and Amiche da morire by Giorgia Farina. This is how the MOVIE (Massafra Omni Vision between Innovation and Cultural Heritage) idea was born, a 360° cinema setting which is unique at a national level and that it would become part of larger cinematographic circuit already flourishing in the Apulia region. The project’s feasibility was then evaluated from a logistic-economic point of view. Furthermore, given the Castle’s location, the project proposes the reopening of ancient paths that connect the monument to the historical town centre and to the Ravine. The project also supports the restoration of rock settlements with its cave houses (currently completely collapsed) that surround the castle’s foundation to divulge hospitality.

Abstract:
SAIPEM has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction of “El Encino - Topolobampo” Natural Gas Pipeline Project in Mexico. The 30” pipeline begins in El Encino, in the state of Chihuahua, and terminates in Topolobampo, in the state of Sinaloa. It runs in a West-South West direction perpendicularly crossing the “Sierra Madre Occidental”, a mountain range characterized by uneven morphology with deep and narrow valleys and steep slopes. Near the village of Santa Matilde, before reaching the Chinipas River, the pipeline route has to overcome a 150 meters high steep slope on the left side of the valley of Chinipas. This slope features a sub vertical rocky cliff with a 55 meters drop in the upper section. A trenchless crossing of the slope was designed and executed to safely cross the steep slope by means of raise borer and tunnel. Since the area was nearly inaccessible, SAIPEM, for the first time in the design of a trenchless crossing of slopes, has performed the geomechanical study using a remote sensing process based on the Structure from Motion (SfM) technique for a three-dimensional reconstruction of the outcrop of the cliff. The activity has been carried out in collaboration with the Department of Earth, Life and Environmental Science of the University of Urbino. The results of the study led to the optimization of the trenchless geometry maintaining the raise bore into the competent rock avoiding frequent lithological variations critical during the drilling and identifying a suitable tunnel entrance location.

Abstract:
Abstract Casing collapse capacity was identified by Equinor as a critical operational parameter on one of its fields in production. This led to re-evaluation and detailed studies of the overall well design, specifically the production casing’s collapse capacity, together with consequence and risk evaluations in case of a potential casing failure. As an important and useful input to the risk evaluations, the present paper presents a structural reliability analysis for casing collapse. Initially, the casing collapse capacity was evaluated using API TR 5C3 / ISO 10400 [1], with insufficient capacity being documented. In order to investigate further, physical material testing and collapse testing were performed. Two kinds of collapse tests have been performed: i) tests of unsupported pipe and ii) test of pipes with external support from the cement and formation surrounding the pipe. While a paper from 2018 (OMAE2018-78767) considered casings without external support, the present paper pays attention towards supported pipes. Five collapse tests have been performed where test lengths of the 9 5/8” casing were installed inside a thick-walled pipe that simulates the support. A small gap leaves an annulus between the casing and the supporting pipe, allowing a controlled pressure to increase until collapse. The tests have been simulated by finite element analyses. Good correspondence was obtained, providing confidence that FE simulations can be used to predict the collapse capacity of supported pipes. While the tests were only performed for an idealized case with support around the whole circumference, a large number of FE simulations have been carried out for different combinations of support conditions together with variations in pipe ovality and internal wear from drilling. Ideally, the space between the casing and the rock formation is filled by cement. However, in practice there may be channels where there is no cement, likely to occur if the casing is eccentric in the well bore during cementing. These results from these FE simulations have been used to generate a response surface. Subsequent structural reliability analyses have been performed, in which well specific uncertainty associated with the above parameters is considered. Measurements and logging are used to minimize the uncertainty in these inputs and thereby leading to a reduction in the calculated failure probability. The probability of casing collapse is calculated conditional on different magnitude of the differential pressure of the pipe. By using SRA the potential over-conservatism in the conventional deterministic analysis is avoided. The SRA results were used to assist in the risk evaluation resulting in an allowance for continued production on existing wells.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Tight sandstone reservoirs are an important petroleum resources in recent years. Hydraulic fracturing is widely used to stimulate development of tight sandstone oil reservoirs by creating underground fractures, but the low flowback rate of fracturing fluid leads to the water blocking damage and low oil recovery of tight sandstone oil reservoirs compared with those of conventional oil reservoirs. The object of this study is to experimentally investigate the possibility of improving flowback efficiency and oil recovery efficiency through achievement of the supercritical water condition. Self-developed reaction system is used to conduct hydraulic fracturing for tight sandstone samples under both regular and supercritical conditions. While comparing the oil recovery factor and flowback efficiency of the regular and supercritical water hydraulic fracturing, mechanisms behind these results are explored through examination of the change in oil components, the change in rock minerals and the change in pore-fracture distribution. Results show that the dynamic viscosity of the crude oil after the supercritical water hydraulic fracturing is significantly lower than that before hydraulic fracturing, with a decrease of 2.88 mPa·s under ambient condition and a decrease of 0.39 mPa·s under in situ condition. Lighter oil components occupy more percentage of the totoal oil components in the recovered oil from supercritical water hydraulic fracturing than that in the oil recovered from regular hydraulic fracturing, with an average increase of 16% for the oil components of molecular weight from 100 to 200. Heavier oil components of molecular weight larger than 300 have an average decrease of 15.5% after the supercritical water hydraulic fracturing. This indicate the visbreaking of the crude oil under the supercritical water condition. Oil recovery after supercritical water hydraulic fracturing is always higher than that after regular hydraulic fracturing, and the ultimate oil recovery after supercritical water hydraulic fracturing is 66.5% compared with 60% of regular hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing fluid after the supercritical water condition flows much quicker and smoothly than that after the regular hydraulic fracturing, and the ultimate flow back factor of the fracturing fluid is 63% after the supercritical water hydraulic fracturing compared with that of 49% after the regular hydraulic fracturing. Increase in percentage of larger pores/fractures after the supercritical water hydraulic fracturing is more significant than that after regular hydraulic fracturing. The percentage of interstratified illite-montmorillonite decreases an average of 15.2%, while that of kaolinite increase an average of 14.3% in the rock samples after supercritical water hydraulic fracturing compared with the original rock samples. This will benefit the recovery process when oil and water flows together into the well bore after the hydraulic fracturing.
