Hydrogeochemical processes occurring in contaminated groundwater and aquifer systems may reduce the sensitivity of boron isotopes as an indicator of hydraulic fracturing flowback fluids (HFFF) in groundwater. In this paper, based on the Chaiye-1 well (the first continental shale gas well in the northern Qaidam Basin), the hydrogeochemical processes affecting boron isotopes were analyzed in HFFF-contaminated Neogene (NG1 and NG2) and Quaternary (QG1) groundwater around the shale gas field. Then, a model for boron isotopes in HFFF-contaminated groundwater was constructed to assess the sensitivit

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to evaluate arsenic distribution and associated hydrogeochemical parameters in 27 randomly selected boreholes representing aquifers in the Al-Kharj geothermal fields of Saudi Arabia. Arsenic was detected at all sites, with 92.5% of boreholes yielding concentrations above the WHO permissible limit of 10 μg/L. The maximum concentration recorded was 122 μg/L (SD = 29 μg/L skewness = 1.87). The groundwater types were mainly Ca+2-Mg+2-SO4-2-Cl−and Na+-Cl−-SO4-2, accounting for 67% of the total composition. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the main source of

Abstract:
The work investigates the properties of lead-free free-machining steel grade A30KhMAR, containing BN inclusions, in comparison with the base Cr-Mo steel 30KhM, lead-bearing AS30KhM, lead-calcium-bearing ASTs30KhM, calcium-bearing ATs30KhM, bismuth-calcium-bearing AVTs30KhM and tin-bearing AО30KhM. Effect of bismuth, calcium, lead, tin and boron nitride inclusions on steel susceptibility to temper brittleness and cold brittleness is studied. Contamination of steels with non-metallic inclusions is estimated. End-quench hardenability curves of the test steel A30KhMAR are obtained. Free-machining

Undoped, liquid-encapsulated-Czochralski (LEC)-grown, semi-insulating (SI) GaAs crystals were electrically characterized by temperature-dependent Hall effects and conductivity measurements to establish the mechanism for thermally induced surface degradation. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to obtain depth profiles of the Ga and As composition, and the nature of the defect complexes and their changes were determined using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Boron-related inhomogeneities were found to occur, and although it is normally considered a passive impurity, w

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is an innovative cancer treatment modality that exploits neutron beams to specifically destroy malignant cells. Despite its assuring clinical benefits, BNCT familiarizes itself with unique environmental health considerations, including radiation safety, waste supervision, and potential ecological ramifications. This review investigates these aspects by appraising radiation safety protocols, waste disposal procedures, and environmental monitoring implementations associated with BNCT facilities. Effective radiation shielding and demanding safety protocols are

Infiltration of municipal or domestic waste water happens as unwanted or even planned form of waste water disposal as: infiltration of septic tank effluents, leakage from pits in rural areas, exfiltration from sewer systems and infiltration of biologically treated waste water in regions with lack of receiving surface waters. Suitable markers for domestic waste water in groundwater are boron (low dilution) and carbamazepine (high dilution). Pathogens and oxygen depletion represent the main risk for drinking water quality arising from domestic waste water in groundwater. Even infiltration of bio
