Full textThe problematic extent of housing segregation in million programme areas has many negative consequences, which creates huge challenges for the Swedish planners. Densification has evolved into an urban planning ideal for sustainable cities, which this study has chosen to focus on. The aim of this study is to analyze how densification can decrease residential segregation in the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby, as well as study how this ideal works together with a factor like mixed housing. The work was shaped after a case study, where different empirical data were collected. Interviews were made with experts in densification and segregation, in order to get more detailed information about the subject. An analysis matrix was constructed for the study, in order to analyze the Stockholm suburbs that were visited in a structured manner. Thereafter two walkthrough studies were conducted in Rinkeby, and one walkthrough study in Tensta, Bredäng and Vårberg. This method was done to evaluate and to form a visual perception in the chosen areas. By analyzing previous research and the results, it appears that mixed housing are the factors that work best together with urban densification, to counteract housing segregation in Rinkeby. The study shows that densification should be used as a tool rather than attempting to counter residential segregation as a sole element. Mixed housing counteract polarization as well as segregation, and facilitate the possibility for residents to stay in their neighbourhood and accomplish a housing career, within their own neighbourhood. Demolition and unnecessary consequential costs to society can be avoided through densification, which means that physical densification together with mixed housing are the best ways to counter residential segregation in Rinkeby.

Full textAbstract
The purpose of this essay is to compare the integration policy between Socialdemokraterna, Moderaterna and Sverigedemokraterna with focus on labor-market integration, housing segregation and language knowledge. The international immigration has in recent years increased significantly and this has also enriched the receiving countries and still the numbers of extreme right parties have increased. In Sweden a racist populist party, Sverigedemokraterna, are only a few steps away from entering the parliament.
The question in focus is: What differences or similarities are there between the integration politics between Moderaterna, Socialdemokraterna and Sverigedemokraterna with focus on the areas housing, work and language?
By applying the theoretical framework to the data, I have been able to present answers and build up an analysis. The study concludes that there are more similarities than differences in the integration policy between Moderaterna and Socialdemokraterna. Sverigedemokraterna on the other hand have very radical integration politics in comparison to the two other parties.

Full textResidential segregation has grown more intense over the years within Sweden and is nowadays a hot topic on the political agenda. A lot of residential areas are today characterized by a homogeneous social structure in the matter of socioeconomic situation, ethnicity and demography. This study aims to study how places for meetings can be used as a tool, to further integrate segregated groups in an area of residential segregation. The aim is more specific to study how the local context, in form of the urban form, but also the non-spatial context, affects how social integration takes form. A case study of residential segregation is used to answer these questions and to further gain a better understanding of the relationship between the local context and social structures and interactions within the area. An inventory of important places for meetings takes place in the case study, by using methods such as surveys and interviews. Performed interviews will also aim to create a better understanding of the social and cultural context of the studied area. The result of the case study is proving that the social and cultural context, but also the urban form, creates substantial differences, in question of social structures and behaviours. The concluding remarks of the study is stressing the importance of thorough study of the local context, to further understand how meeting places can be better planned, to function as a tool for integration in an area of residential segregation.
