Abstract:
Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) is well documented in the three most popular brachycephalic dog breeds of the UK and several other countries: French Bulldogs, Pugs and Bulldogs. More extreme conformation has been found to be associated with increased risk of BOAS and other brachycephalic disease in these breeds, such as ocular, neurological, and dental disease. Less is known about how BOAS and other brachycephalic conformation-related disease affects other breeds such as the Boston Terrier. In this study, one-hundred and seven Boston Terriers were prospectively recruited from

Few violence prevention programs of any kind foreground discussions of masculinity. In his work with college athletes, Jackson Katz positions the sociocultural construction of manhood as central to the problem of men's violence against women, as well as the basis of potential sources of prevention. Through the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Project at Northeastern University in Boston, Katz and his colleagues seek to reduce men's violence against women by inspiring athletes and other models of traditional masculine success to challenge and reconstruct predominant male norms that equate s

Wearable devices are increasingly used for health monitoring, yet the impact of consistent wear on physiological and behavioral outcomes is unclear. Leveraging nearly a million days and nights of longitudinal data from 11,914 subscribers, we examined the associations between the frequency of wearing a wrist-worn wearable device (WHOOP Inc., Boston, MA, USA) and 12-week changes in biometric, sleep, and activity profiles, modeling both between- and within-person effects. Higher average wear frequency and week-to-week increases in wear were associated with a lower resting heart rate (RHR), higher

United Nations in 2011 estimated every year worldwide around 1.3 billion tons of food is lost or wasted. According to a 2018 analysis by the Boston Consulting Group, this figure will reach 2.1 billion tons in 2050. Abstract Photovoice is built upon the principle of empowerment. With the increased use of Smartphones, photovoice provides a more readily available qualitative option for co-research with older adults. This presentation provides examples from the current study illustrating the process of creating a project that uses photovoice to see how older adults construct the meaning of home and place. While the benefits of this design are many, some issues do arise during implementation, such as: creating study protocols to address Institutional Review Board (IRB) concerns; working with organizations to

HIV-positive men are living long and healthier lives while managing HIV as a chronic illness. Although research has extensively documented the experiences of illness of people living with HIV, dating, marriage, and fatherhood among heterosexual Latino men has not been examined. To address this gap, this study used a qualitative study design to examine patterns and strategies for dating, marriage, and parenthood among 24 HIV-positive heterosexual Puerto Rican men living in Boston.
