Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of two strains of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in mixed raising systems. A total of 3600 fish-larvae species was used, 1800 belonging to Bouaké lineage, and 1800 to Chitralada. The experiment was carried out in three phases; Phase I in an incubator in 18 boxes, in which two treatments (Bouaké and Chitralada) were tested by using nine repetitions; Phases II and III were performed in 18 cement tanks with the same treatments. In phase I, regarding the final weight and gain of weight, Chitralada strain showed the highest final weight values. In phase II, Chitralada showed the highest final weight value when compared with Bouaké, and, considering the gain of weight, Bouaké obtained the best result. In phase III, Chitralada showed better final weight results (104 days of raising), final weight, final length and gain of length/cm (152 days of raising); but, after 279 days of the cultivation, Bouaké showed a higher weight and length gain. These findings showed that Chitralada strain presented the best performance.

Abstract:
This study was carried out to morphologically characterize and classify the stages of gonad development in different Nile tilapia strains (Oreochromis niloticus). Eighty-four and ninety-two ovaries from Bouaké and Chitralada strains, respectively, were evaluated at different ovarian developmental phases: initial (104 days of culture), intermediate (152 days of culture), and the final (279 days of culture). The ovaries were microscopically evaluated and submitted to histological processing and hematoxylin-eosin staining to determine their characteristics and be classified. No morphological differences in ovaries between strains were observed during the initial phase (stage A - immature). During the intermediate growing phase, higher gonad development was observed for Chitralada strain (stage B - maturation) in comparison with Bouaké strain (stage A - immature). During the final growing phase, no differences between strains were observed for morphological characteristics (stage C - mature). Despite the similarities in reproductive behavior of the Bouaké and Chitralada females at the end of the final growing phase (gain weight phase), differences for macroscopic and microscopic aspects and oocytes during the initial and intermediate growing phases of the strains were observed.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The pharynx of the child may serve as a reservoir of pathogenic bacteria, including beta-haemolytic group A streptococci (GAS), which can give rise to upper airway infections and post-streptococcal diseases. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of beta-haemolytic Streptococcus spp. in pharyngeal samples stemming from children aged 3–14 years in Bouaké, central Côte d’Ivoire. Oropharyngeal throat swabs for microbiological culture and venous blood samples to determine the seroprevalence of antistreptolysin O antibodies (ASO) were obtained from 400 children in March 2017. Identification was carried out using conventional bacteriological methods. Serogrouping was performed with a latex agglutination test, while an immunological agglutination assay was employed for ASO titres. The mean age of participating children was 9 years (standard deviation 2.5 years). In total, we detected 190 bacteria in culture, with 109 beta-haemolytic Streptococcus isolates, resulting in an oropharyngeal carriage rate of 27.2%. Group C streptococci accounted for 82.6% of all isolates, whereas GAS were rarely found (4.6%). The ASO seroprevalence was 17.3%. There was no correlation between serology and prevalence of streptococci (p = 0.722). In conclusion, there is a high pharyngeal carriage rate of non-GAS strains in children from Bouaké, warranting further investigation.

Abstract:
Objectives. Postpartum haemorrhage is one of several direct causes of maternal death in Côte d’Ivoire. It is recurrent in the department of gynaecology and obstetrics at Bouaké University Hospital (CHU de Bouaké), but little is known to date about the underlying risk factors. The present study aims to describe the levels and trends displayed by the risk factors of postpartum haemorrhage before determining the contributing social factors in the aforesaid department. Material and methods. This study is retrospective in nature, concerning the period from 2014 to 2016. Data was obtained from delivery records and through individual interviews. The overall approach adopted is an anthropological one. Results. Postpartum haemorrhage is significant in light of its very high and increasing incidence (22.31%) among multiparous mothers. Within the latter category, fatal complications are a critical problem, with an annual average estimated at 35.98% and on the rise. The overall situation is alarming in view of this progressive deterioration. The persistence of the reproductive morbidity is attributable to various economic, social, cultural, and infrastructural factors. Conclusions. Communicational strategies are proposed as a type of community intervention conducive to social and behavioural change, with multiparous mothers as a priority target group, followed by older mothers in the medium term and by adolescent mothers in the long term. This should raise awareness about high-risk reproductive behaviours and practices as well as the environmental, economic, social, cultural, and infrastructural factors correlated to postpartum haemorrhage, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality and safety of reproductive practices. Keywords: postpartum haemorrhage, reproductive behaviour, high risk, obstetric emergency, maternal morbidity, Côte d’Ivoire.

Abstract:
Pregnancy is a physiological condition that requires prenatal followup during which medical care ensures that complications in childbirth are prevented and that a healthy child is born as much as possible. It is therefore important for pregnant women to undergo a number of clinical examinations, including blood tests and HIV / AIDS testing, which are in the process of being integrated into the monitoring of women at the primary health care. However, pregnant women do not systematically use these practices in Urban Sanitary Training in Côte d'Ivoire generally and in Bouaké in particular. The free choice of women to submit to the various tests, the health benefits of which are the subject of recurrent information campaigns, does not always lead to their rigorous application during prenatal consultations. It therefore appears that the resistances or the sometimes unsystematic choices of acceptance of the tests and their referents become the object of reflection in the face of the challenge of improving the safe motherhood rate and the attainment of a generation without HIV-AIDS. What are the social attitudes and perceptions related to blood tests and HIV-AIDS testing in pregnant women ? The aim of this study is to understand the social logics underlying the positive or negative attitude of pregnant women to blood tests and the HIV-AIDS test. To address this concern, an essentially qualitative study was carried out among 16 pregnant women and the medical staff of the Urban Sanitary Formation of Ahougnansou in Bouaké (Côte d'Ivoire). The main finding of this study is that attitudes of pregnant women have links to socially situated representations of the disease, stigma, education, income, and perceived risks to social and marital relationships.

Abstract:
The populations of Bouaké in general have extremely negative perceptions of homosexuality. They translate this aversion by a whole lexical field with depreciative and offensive connotations in refering to it. On the other hand, there are homosexuals who have positive perceptions, and who, in order to escape social reprobation, secretly live their sexuality while at the same time developing a jargon that allows them to first recognize each other and then value themselves. This homophobia is not without dramatic consequences for homosexuals as well as for society itself. There is therefore a need to work at all levels (family, legal, political etc.) to curb homophobic acts before the worst happens.

Abstract:
In order to update knowledge on the spatio-temporal evolution of Pectinophora gossypiella, the geographical areas and the seasons of predilection of adult and larval populations have been studied in the last six years from 2012 to 2017. The study showed that adult populations are more abundant in the cotton production area of the South compared to the North. They have a very low activity during the intercropping season while the most important outbreaks occurred in October-December. The monitoring of larval populations carried out on farm scale showed that infestations started on cotton early August and increased until November, which leads to a strong relationship between the evolution of adult populations, larval infestations and cotton plant phenology. Late sowings D5 and D6 exhibited higher levels of infestation (0.50 to 0.80 larvae/100 bolls) as compared to early sowing (0.21-0.31 larvae/100 bolls). Annual variations of pest infestation levels increased from years to years, fluctuating from 0.14 to 0.95 larvae/100 bolls over the study period. Mapping of the geographic distribution of infestation showed more severe pest pressure in the southern cotton areas, mostly in surrounding areas of Bouaké, Bouaflé, Séguéla and Boron (18,90; 5,33; 1,52; 1,06 larvae/100 bolls respectively). With regard to the emerging status of P. gossypiella over recent years, the current pyrethroid resistance management strategy deserves to be improved on the basis of the pest geographic and seasonal profiles.

Abstract:
AbstractOn the strength of research in 1992–95 and 1998 this article discusses the way Muslim women dress in Bouaké, Côte D'Ivoire, and what it tells us about the trajectory of their lives and view of the world. Arguing that fashion is emblematic of processes of identification, it seeks to explain how young women come to be situated and position themselves in these processes. To do so, it examines the processes through a life course analysis that takes into account local versionings of tradition and aesthetics, Muslim cosmology and ideals of Western modernity. The article shows that as young women gain social maturity and assume the socially defined status of adult they dress and act increasingly in a manner that emphasises Muslim identity. The various ways in which they use dress reflect the stance they adopt towards competing versionings of Islam.

Abstract:
Climate change characterized by increasing average daily temperature and changing seasons has become a public health concern, with the incidence of malaria in recent years. Despite research on global warming and efforts to fight malaria (sensitization campaigns, distribution of insecticide-treated nets, care of the sick), the excessive heat continues to do damage. What is the link between climate change and malaria? What are people's perceptions of climate change in relation to malaria? To address these concerns, the survey on the impact of climate change on malaria was conducted through in-depth interviews with some 20 people from the village of Adjéyaokro in Bouaké. It is mainly the result of our investigations that the populations do not link the effects of climate change and the risk of exposure to malaria.

Abstract:
For the inhabitants of Gbintou (a district of the town of Bouaké), manufacture traditional soap, kabakrou, is the main economic activity of survival. In fact, this activity is a source of wealth, but a risky source of wealth. Indeed, the actors face many difficulties in the manufacturing process (raw material supply, health difficulties) the point of wanting to simply abandon the trade. The implementation of the socio-anthropological functionalist method and the study of this activity helped to understand that apart from raw material acquisition difficulties and illnesses it generates (contact urticaria, infections broncho lung), the company suffers from a lack of garish consequent functional organization and sanitary hygiene. Thus, it is desirable to set up an association or cooperative well equipped to train and organize stakeholders and better manage the entire manufacturing process.

Urban agriculture in Côte d’Ivoire is an important activity in terms of food security, employment and response to environment. However in Bouaké, this agriculture and mainly gardening faces to a new land dynamics around intra-urban shallow. This situation results to emergence of new actors because of new stakes that represent shallows. As consequences we have a reduction of cultivated areas, an instability and a casualization of this type of agriculture. By analysis, it appears that of this sallow’s upgrading leads a redefinition of operating rules of flooded fields, witch were dropped to gardeners. More, this public servitudes and unbuilt areas subject to illegal land commercial transaction and anarchic buildings. We deduce a modification of these spaces operating rules, problems of land government and a neglect of urban agriculture in public politics and city management in Côte d’Ivoire.

Abstract:
Introduction: The treatment of facial wounds by human bites is difficult, especially in under-developed countries. We aimed to distinguish the epidemiological and clinical aspects to describe the therapeutic methods and evaluate their effectiveness. Materials and methods: This was a descriptive and retrospective study over a period of 6 years. Patients who consulted regarding a human bite wound and were surgically treated were included. Results: Eighteen patients with a hospital prevalence of 0.008% were enrolled. The ratio of men to women was 2 (12 men for every 6 women). The average age was 32.77 years (range, 23–45 years). The lesions were labial in 11 cases (61.11%). The wounds were type III in eight cases (44.44%) and type II in nine cases (50%). Surgical treatment was primary in 12 cases (66.67%) and delayed in 6 cases (33.33%). The evolution was favorable in 16 cases (88.89%). Discussion: The wounds on the face created by human bite can be effectively treated via primary repair while reserving systematic secondary closure to an initially necrotic wound.

Abstract:
This article is an attempt to understand and analyze the difficulties encountered by agricultural cooperatives in the marketing of cola nuts. Despite the considerable capital generated by this sector, many difficulties are hampering the agricultural sector, which results in a sharp decline in the profits of cooperatives and producers. For the members, this is due to the lack or little commitment of the Ivorian State to revitalize this promising sector as is the case with the coffee-cocoa pair. In fact, the fact that foreign traders have direct access to growers in their production areas without going through a central structure, in particular the wholesale marketBouake, weakens domestic traders. Similarly, this situation prevents the Ivorian export circuit of Cola from having a substantial tonnage and allowing the entry of foreign currency into the country. All this contributes to devalue the label of the cola nut produced in Cote d'Ivoire.

Abstract:
A pandemic that appeared in Wuhan in China considered in the early stages of the spread as the disease of others goes, by its virulent spread, to modify the mores of different human communities. Now, all of humanity is struggling for its survival as the most vulnerable continent surprises international opinion for its resilience while defeating the predictions of disasters. It is in this dispute that in Côte d'Ivoire, the taking in of this pandemic will experience two states. A clinical posture of curative and preventive regulation strongly represented in Abidjan while the localities of the interior escape the strictness of the provisions. As surprising as it may seem, COVID-19, which has become more visible among the Ivorian elite, will be weakly contracted and taken seriously by all communities. Although it is variously perceived by cultural areas, it still emerges a socially anchored resilience which nevertheless seems to be right in the spread of the pandemic. In a socio-anthropological approach, we will strive to elucidate the socio-community imaginaries that are the basis of the perception and community habits of COVID-19 in Côte d'Ivoire

Abstract:
An assessment of rice crop resistance to Bipolaris oryzae, a causal agent of rice brown leaf spot or helminthosporium disease was carried out. Ten (10) irrigated and upland rice varieties were used in this study. Seven (7) isolates of B. oryzae from Burkina Faso, seven (7) from Côte d’Ivoire and six (6) from Togo were used. The ten (10) varieties were inoculated with B. oryzae strains to assess their effect and determine the resistance level of these varieties to rice leaf spot (Helminthosporium). The varieties Bouaké- AM, FKR60N, NIL130, V10, FKR62N and CY2 showed a good level of resistance against all the isolates. The incidence of the disease on leaves reached 62.22% of severity index. Results revealed also that the strain effects are not linked to their country of origin. The investigation on the pathogenicity of Bipolaris oryzae isolates displayed the existence of a pathogenic variability among the fungus populations. These findings suggest that the tested varieties possess resistance genes that can be used in varietal selection.
