Computational Fluid Dynamics is a powerful and widely used tool for developing projectsthat concern flow motion, in very different fields. Industrial CFD solvers are continuouslydeveloped with the aim of improving accuracy and reducing the computational cost of thesimulations. Turbulent wall-flow cases are particular demanding as the presence of a solidsurfaceinterface generates steep gradients in the proximity of the wall. Resolving suchgradients can be crucial to obtain a consistent solution but also very expensive in terms ofgrid refinement, and hence computational time. Wall functions are

This Thesis is concerned with the quasiclassical theory of meso-scopic superconductivity. The aim of the Thesis is to introduce the boundary conditions for a quasiclassical Green’s function on partially transparent interfaces in mesoscopic superconducting structures and to analyze the range of applicability of the quasiclassical theory. The linear boundary conditions for Andreev amplitudes, factoring the quasiclassical Green’s function, are presented.  The quasiclassical theory on classical trajectories is reviewed and then generalized to include knots with paths intersections.  The main focus

A Lagrangian particle model was applied to estimating emission strength and air pollutant concentrations specifically for the short-range dispersion of an air pollutant in the atmospheric boundary layer. The model performance was evaluated with experimental data. The model was then used as the platform of parametric uncertainty analysis, in which effects of uncertainties in five parameters (Monin-Obukhov length, friction velocity, roughness height, mixing height, and the universal constant of the random component) of the model on mean ground-level concentrations were examined under slightly

The transition from laminar to turbulent flow in boundary-layers occurs in three stages: onset of two-dimensional TS waves, onset of three-dimensional secondary disturbances of fundamental or subharmonic type, and onset of the turbulent regime. In free flight conditions, subharmonic disturbances are the most amplified. Recent modeling of the subharmonic disturbance as a parametric instability arising from the presence of a finite amplitude TS wave has given results in quantitative agreement with experiments conducted in a Blasius boundary-layer. A better understanding of the exchange processes taking place over the oceans is of great importance since the oceans cover about 70 % of the Earth’s surface. In this study, the non-dimensional gradient functions for water vapor (Φq) and carbon dioxide (Φc) in the marine boundary layer have principally been studied. Numerical models were also applied to test their capability of simulating these turbulence quantities.
