Este trabalho é uma análise teórica da operacionalização da noção de habitus, de Pierre Bourdieu, com foco no livro A distinção (2007a). Nosso intento foi o de investigar variações da relação do habitus com o passado (e dos pressupostos aí implicados, como a questão da inconsciência, das classes sociais, da reprodução do poder e da dominação), buscando perceber se elas implicavam uma abertura maior para o presente e o futuro, ou seja, para as dimensões prático-avaliativa e projetiva da ação, e, por isso, com possibilidade de apontar para uma articulação mais dialética entre as dimensões da agência humana. As maiores heterogeneidades, em relação à observação dos pressupostos desse instrumento heurístico, apareceram na caracterização bourdieusiana do habitus pequeno-burguês. A especificidade da pequena burguesia francesa relaciona-se à indeterminação estrutural da sua localização no espaço social e à presença de “propriedades diacrônicas” relativas ao incremento da experiência dos deslocamentos sociais. É para essa classe de agentes que a dimensão projetiva da agência parece se insinuar de forma mais significativa. Isso se revelaria por alusões à projetividade ou à presença do “futuro” como orientador da ação, pela necessidade recorrente da escolha consciente, pelo distanciamento autocrítico em relação às próprias disposições e pela ação de uma representação subjetiva, em parte, desencaixada da posição social possuída.
This work is a theoretical analysis of the operationalization of Pierre Bourdieu's notion of habitus, focusing on the book « A distinção » (2007a). Our intention was to investigate variations of the relation of the habitus to the past (and the presuppositions implied on it, such as the question of unconsciousness, social classes, reproduction of power and domination), seeking to see if they implied a greater openness for the present and future, it means, to the practical-evaluative and projective dimensions of action, and therefore with the possibility of pointing to a more dialectical articulation between the dimensions of human agency. The greater heterogeneities, in relation to the observation of the assumptions of this heuristic instrument, appeared in the Bourdieusian characterization of the petty-bourgeois habitus. The specificity of the French petty bourgeoisie is related to the structural indetermination of its location in the social space and to the presence of "diachronic properties" related to the increased experience of social displacements. It is for this class of agents that the projective dimension of the agency seems to hint more significantly. This would be revealed by allusions to the projectability or the presence of the "future" as the guiding principle of action, by the recurrent necessity of conscious choice, by self-critical detachment from its own dispositions, and by the action of a subjective representation, in part, disembedded from the social position possessed.
Ce travail est une analyse théorique de la mise en oeuvre de la notion d'habitus, de Pierre Bourdieu, d’après l’ouvrage « A distinção » (2007a). Notre intention a été d'étudier les variations du rapport d’habitus avec le passé (et des hypothèses mises en cause, telles que la question de l'inconscience, des classes sociales, de la reproduction du pouvoir et de la domination), cherchant à se rendre compte si elles impliquaient une plus grande ouverture pour le présent et pour l’avenir, en d’autres termes, pour les dimensions pratique-évaluatives et projectives de l’action. Donc, avec la possibilité d’envisager une relation plus dialectique entre les dimensions de l'agence humaine. Les plus grandes hétérogénéités, par rapport à l'observation des hypothèses de cet instrument heuristique, sont apparues dans la caractérisation de Bourdieu concernant l'habitus petit-bourgeois. La spécificité de la petite bourgeoisie française est liée à l’indétermination structurelle de sa localisation dans l'espace social et à la présence de “propriétés diachroniques” en ce qui concerne l'expérience accrue des déplacements sociaux. C’est pour cette classe d'agents que la dimension projective de l'agence semble s’impliquer de manière plus significative. Cela serait perçu par des allusions à l’action projective ou à la présence de “l’avenir” comme directeur de l’action, par le besoin récourrent du choix conscient, par l’éloignement auto-critique en rapport aux propres dispositions et par l'action d'une représentation subjective qui, en partie, est détachée de la position sociale possédée.

Pierre Bourdieu states that the Sartrean concept of original project is a founding myth of belief in the uncreated "creator". He contrasts as antithesis to the original project his concept of habitus. Our research follows this Bourdieusian assertion and tests its pertinence. The Sartrian original project starts from a premise of the ontological freedom of the being of which Bourdieu, without affirming it, in our view, uses it to base the influences operated by the field, translated in the habitus. That means: There is more of Sartre in Bourdieu than he may affirms. The conceptual constellation of Pierre Bourdieu transpasses the work of Sartre.

Abstract:
Un des enjeux principaux de cette these est de situer bourdieu dans une tradition philosophique de reflexion sur le corps, dont participent bergson, sartre, merleau-ponty et foucault, tradition qu'il ne fait en quelque sorte que prolonger. C'est dans cette philosophie du corps que reside la portee proprement philosophique de la notion bourdieusienne d'habitus, qui excede donc le champ purement sociologique. Ce qui nous semble en effet determinant dans son oeuvre a cet egard, c'est le statut reconnu au sujet, resultat d'une reflexion interessante sur le role de la subjectivite dans le champ social. Cette analyse philosophique s'accompagne bien evidemment chez bourdieu d'une etude serree des effets nefastes de l'habitus sur le tissu social, l'habitus etant alors considere comme le veritablevecteur de la domination. La portee politique de ce concept est indeniable. C'est en effet sur l'habitus que notre auteur axe sa reflexion sur la violence symbolique, violence qui ne s'exerce pas directement mais emprunte le masque de l'ideologie dominante. L'examen de cette notion, qui rappelle le concept marxiste d'alienation, sera pour nous l'occasion de traiter des relations ambigues que bourdieu entretient avec le marxisme, dont il partage l'ideologie sociale et la condamnation de l'exploitation mais non l'optimisme pour ce qui est de la possibilite de mettre fin a la domination des classes dominantes. Bourdieu ne croit pas en effet qu'il soit possible de mettre un terme au determinisme social reposant sur les habitus individuels, n'envisage pas, en d'autres termes, que le sujet puisse se defaire de l'inertie qu'implique l'habitus et sortir de l'etat d'alienation. A nos yeux, la plus grande lacune de son oeuvre est de ce fait l'absence d'une solution radicale, d'un veritable remede a ce qu'il appelle le <> dans son dernier ouvrage. Meditations pascaliennes. D'ailleurs, le seul fait de se reclamer de pascal est symptomatique de son refus de croire a une quelconque liberation et de la revendication d'un point de vue moral qui reste abstrait. Cet aveu d'impuissance de sa part nous permet d'affirmer que l'interet de l'oeuvre de bourdieu reside plus dans son effort critique et demystificateur que dans son apport positif, en fin de compte assez reduit. Die Magisterarbeit (im Studiengang Soziologie an der Universität Potsdam) knüpft an Beate Krais’ Gedankengang an, wonach durch die unreflektierte Präsenz des Parsonschen Rollenkonzepts innerhalb der (soziologischen) Theorie, theoretische Gegensätze von Individuum und Gesellschaft, Natur und Kultur, Körper und Geist, Irrationalismus und Rationalismus etc. konzeptionell reformuliert werden. Auf dieser strukturellen Grundlage, so Krais’ kritische Stoßrichtung, legitimiere auch die Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung nur wieder überkommene Stereotypen über Geschlechterrollen (Gender) innerhalb moderner, ausdifferenzierter Gesellschaften. Grundlegender jedoch werde so die Vorstellung eines natürlich gegebenen Unterschieds zwischen ‚zwei’ Geschlechtern (Sex) begründet. Feministische Theorie, so Regine Gildemeisters und Angelika Wetterers sozialkonstruktivistisch fundierte Betrachtung, konterkariere auf diesem Wege gerade ihren eigenen Anspruch, das Ideologem: „Biologie als Schicksal“ als solches zu entlarven. In theoretisch-methodischer Konsequenz vollziehe man vielmehr eine problematische Positivierung des Geschlechterdualismus. In Überwindung dieser Problematik sind zwei Richtungen theoretischer Entwicklung erkennbar. Einerseits wird im Anschluss an neuere modernistische bzw. poststrukturalistische Argumentationen die Möglichkeit einer kritisch orientierten Sozial- bzw. Geschlechterforschung grundsätzlich bezweifelt. Andererseits wird an dieser Stelle aber auch der paradigmatische Übergang von der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung zur Geschlechterverhältnisforschung expliziert, welcher die für das feministische Projekt grundlegende Verbindung wissenschaftlicher und kritischer Ambitionen neu reflektiert und im Anspruch auf eine integrative, gendersensible Sozialwissenschaft forschungsstrategisch neu ausrichtet. Mit der Betrachtung der Soziologie Pierre Bourdieus tritt der Diskussion eine theoretische Position hinzu, die in eigener Weise Schwachstellen und Einseitigkeiten postmoderner und postfeministischer Ansätze herausstellt. Auf der Grundlage einer praxeologischen Theorie zeigen sich aber auch besondere Affinitäten zum feministischen Diskurs. Über eine Theorie der symbolischen Gewalt verdeutlicht Bourdieu, wie die Kategorie ‚Geschlecht’ in der sozialen Praxis der Akteure immer wieder konstruiert wird (doing gender). Gleichwohl verweist er, über bisherige Erkenntnisse hinausgehend, auf die soziale Mächtigkeit dieser Kategorie innerhalb der Dialektik sozialer und symbolischer Strukturen. Gegen die Kritik, die im deutschsprachigen Raum von Seiten der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung an Bourdieus Buch: „Die männliche Herrschaft“ (1997) geübt wurde, versucht die Arbeit einer vorschnellen Lesweise und Aburteilung des Bourdieuschen Werks durch eine evaluative Betrachtung seiner soziologischen Konzepte im Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen feministischer Theorie und Kritik entgegenzuwirken.
The Master’s thesis, written in sociology at the University of Potsdam, focuses on Beate Krais’ criticism of Women and Gender Studies which claims that because of the unreflected presence of Parson’s concept of social roles theoretical oppositions as there are the individual and society, nature and culture, body and mind, irrationalism and rationalism etc. are conceptionally reformulated. This legitimates not only stereotypes of gender roles within modern, differentiated societies but more fundamentally justifies the notion of a natural given difference between ‘two’ sexes. Hence Regine Gildemeister und Angelika Wetterer argue that feminist theory does not do justice to its demand which is to reveal the view of “biology as destiny” as an ideological notion. The consequence is that in a theoretical and methodical way, feminism exercises a problematic affirmation of the gender dualism. There are two types of theoretical developments trying to overcome these contradictions of feminism. On the one hand, following new modernistic or poststructural argumentations, the possibility of a critically orientated Approach to Social and Gender Study is called into question. On the other hand, one can observe the paradigmatic transition from Women and Gender Studies to Gender Relation Studies which not only rethink the connection of academic and critical ambitions but also articulate the demand of an integrative, gendersensitive Social Science instead of reserving an academic niche any longer. The theory of the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu adds to the discussion by pointing out the limits of postmodern and postfeministic theoretical approaches. Nevertheless, within the frame of a praxeological theory, particular affinities to the feminist discourse are apparent. Bourdieu’s theory of symbolic violence understands ‘gender’ as a relational term. However, by going far beyond given insights, Bourdieu reveals this notion to be a powerful social category within a dialectical framework of social and symbolic structures. Trying to oppose to the criticism that representatives of Women and Gender Studies have articulated towards Bourdieu’s work: “Die männliche Herrschaft” (1997), this Master’s thesis intends to counteract a superficial reading and sentencing of Bourdieu’s work by offering an evaluative and reflective consideration of his sociological concepts in terms of feminist demands and challenges.

Em busca de uma elucidação maior sobre um conceito fulcral à sociologia contemporânea, o trabalho percorre uma trajetória exegética ao redor da idéia de habitus a partir da contribuição do sociólogo francês Pierre Bourdieu. Como um dos mais notáveis sociólogos no século XX, Bourdieu embalou toda sua obra, ainda profundamente influente nas ciências sociais, com o conceito de habitus como um compartimento individual onde ressoam ingerências externas ao agente, empreendendo um novo esforço na delimitação desta idéia já milenar nas ciências humanas. Ao estabelecer uma indecomponível relação onto-epistemológica entre habitus e campo, a sociologia bourdieusiana aponta novas balizas teóricas e empíricas para a investigação das relações entre as instâncias relativas às agências e às estruturas. O passo gnosiológico bourdieusiano encarnado no uso da noção de habitus se pretendeu credenciado para uma superação mais definitiva da miríade de dicotomias sociológicas mais de uma vez explicitada em oposições como objetivismo/subjetivismo e nominalimo/realismo, o que do ponto de vista do esquadrinhamento do indivíduo e/ou da sociedade consiste em acatar nuances variadas entre as duas esferas, sem necessariamente tomar partido por um dos dois pólos. Seguiu-se em paralelo a uma utilização por Bourdieu do conceito de habitus em diversas searas sociológicas, um debate portentoso acerca de quais instrumentos a análise sociológica deve se valer no processo científico de apreensão e compreensão da realidade. A pesquisa se fiou também na déia de habitus como um ponto primordial para um divisar de perspectivas teórico-analíticas entre várias das correntes fundamentais em ciências sociais, bem como entre os mais luminares expoentes de diversos momentos na sociologia, com os quais, inegavelmente, os quadros teóricos e empíricos delineados por Pierre Bourdieu dialogaram constantemente. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
In search of a wider elucidation, concerning a concept of basis to contemporary Sociology, the work goes through an exegetical way around the idea of habitus, from the contribution made by the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. Counted as one of the most remarkable sociologists th of the 20 Century, Bourdieu has established his work, which is still deeply influent in Social Sciences, in the concept of habitus as an individual compartment where interferences, external to the agent, reverberate, undertaking a new effort in the delimitation of this idea, already considered millenary in Human Sciences. By appointing an indissoluble onto-epistemological relation between habitus and field, the bourdieusian sociology indicates new theoretical and empirical boundaries for the investigation of the relation among the instances related to the agencies and structures. The bourdieusian gnosiological step, materialized in the utilization of the notion of habitus, has considered itself as able of overcoming, in a more definitive way, the infinity of sociological dichotomies, many times expressed in oppositions such as objectivism/subjectivism and nominalism/realism , which, if considered from the point of view of a detailed analysis of the individual and/or society, consists in regarding varied nuances between both spheres, without, necessarily, making common cause with any of them. Parallely to the use of the concept of habitus in many sociological parties by Bourdieu, there is a profuse debate about which instruments the sociological analysis should rely on, concerning the scientific process of perception and understanding of reality. The research also relies on the idea of habitus as a primordial concept for perceiving theoretical-analytical perspectives among the many fundamental tendencies in Social Sciences, as well as among the most illuminating exponents from different moments in Sociology, which, undeniably, keep a constant dialogue with the theoretical and empirical panoramas delineated by Pierre Bourdieu.

Pierre Bourdieu (1930–2002) war ein französischer Ethnologe und Soziologe, der von 1981 bis 2001 einen Lehrstuhl für Soziologie am Collège de France innehatte. Sein zentrales Erkenntnisinteresse richtete Bourdieu auf die Beständigkeit der sozialen Verhältnisse, deren zentralen Mechanismus er im Phänomen der symbolischen Gewalt fand. Bourdieu beschreibt dabei, wie in der sozialen Praxis über Akte des Klassifizierens Herrschafts- und Machtverhältnisse konstituiert und perpetuiert werden. Als Beispiel schlechthin für die symbolische Gewalt benennt Bourdieu die „Männliche Herrschaft“. Die Rezeption dieses Konzepts ist in der deutschsprachigen Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung bis heute jedoch eher zurückhaltend.

The aim with this paper has been to examine and to report for different sociocultural background factors (class property, the parents' level of education, the parents' income) importance for the choice of type of education and to see if there is any differences between different university courses with respect to class property. Our issues were following:

1. What/which sociocultural factors have had most importance for the choice of programs on universities?

2. How is the distribution between the different classes in the different university programs?

Our study is a comparative survey with the aim to detect possible connection patterns, differences and resemblances with respect to the students' social background. In our survey we have used questionnaires as a method for data collection. Our ambition has not been to give a comprehensive picture of what/which sociocultural factors that had most importance for the students' choices to begin to study on universities throughout Sweden. Therefore, we delimited us only to carrying out the survey at University of Örebro. Our population consists thus of a programme from each faculty on University of Örebro.

The empirical material from the questionnaire survey, has been presented with appropriate statistical methods, it has been analyzed and discussed with the aid of Bourdieus habitus theory.

In this survey we can among other things establish that it occurs certain differences between the different programs, which have been included in the study, among other things with respect to class property. We have also found other relevant connection among different variables.


Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka och redogöra för olika sociokulturella bakgrundsfaktorers (klasstillhörighet, föräldrarnas utbildningsnivå, föräldrarnas inkomst) betydelse för valet av typ av utbildning samt se om det finns skillnader mellan olika universitetsprogram med avseende på klasstillhörighet. Våra frågeställningar är följande:

1. Vilken/vilka sociokulturella faktorer har haft mest betydelse för valet av program/inriktning på universitet/högskolan?

2. Hur ser fördelningen av klasstillhörigheten mellan de olika programmen ut?

Vår studie är en komparativ surveyundersökning med syftet att upptäcka eventuella sambandsmönster, skillnader och likheter med avseende på studenternas sociala bakgrund. I vår undersökning har vi att använt oss av enkäter som en metod för datainsamling. Vår ambition har inte varit att ge en heltäckande bild av vilken/vilka sociokulturella faktorer som haft mest betydelse för studenternas val att börja studera att på högskola/universitet i hela Sverige. Därför avgränsade vi oss endast till att utföra undersökningen vid Örebro universitet. Vår population består således av ett program från varje fakultet på Örebro universitet.

Det empiriska materialet från enkätundersökningen, har presenterats med lämpliga statistiska metoder, har analyserats och diskuterats med hjälp av Bourdieus habitusteori.

I denna undersökning har vi bland annat kunnat konstatera att det förekommer vissa skillnader mellan de olika universitetsprogrammen, som har ingått i studien, bland annat med avseende på klasstillhörighet. Vi har även funnit en del andra relevanta samvariationer mellan olika variabler.

Conhecimento do par linguístico não é a única ferramenta de que ele necessita, mas de um vasto conhecimento nas mais variadas instâncias do saber e, acima de tudo, um domínio sobre o material com o qual está trabalhando. Na presente dissertação, analisamos a teoria do habitus de Pierre Bourdieu e sua influência direta nos tradutores de histórias em quadrinhos da Marvel Comics e DC Comics no Brasil através da análise de entrevistas realizadas e sua influência na escolha do uso de gírias na tradução. Tratamos das questões relativas à tradução contextualizada e não somente da transferência automática e impensada de palavras soltas de uma língua para outra (Milton, 2010). Analisamos o potencial da Tradução Descritiva (DTS), mais especificamente a Function Oriented DTS, como maneira de enfatizar elementos essenciais à tradução e às funções que elas representam em seus receptores analisando a influência sociocultural e o contexto em que o texto foi produzido (Holmes, 2000).
In a constantly growing market in, the translator of comics should apply the most varied forms of knowledge to his or her work. Knowledge of a language pair is not the only tool that he or she needs, but a vast knowledge in the most varied areas, and above all a familiarity with the material with which he or she is working. In the present thesis we analyze the theory of habitus of Pierre Bourdieu and its direct influence on comic book translators of Marvel Comics and DC Comics in Brazil through interviews analysis, and its influence on the choice of slang used in translation. Also the ability to handle all issues related to contextual translation and not only the automatic transfer of loose and thoughtless words from one language to another is examined (Milton, 2010). Furthermore, we analyze the potential of Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS), specifically the \"Function Oriented DTS\" as a way to emphasize key elements in translation and the roles they represent in their receivers analyzing the sociocultural influence and the context in which the text was produced (Holmes, 2000).

The dialogue between philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein s notions and Pierre Bourdieu s sociological concepts related to social practice of language shows that the philosophy of language has an important influence on contemporary social theory. When we compare the ideas of these authors we discover that beyond the direct influences from the philosopher that the sociologist recognizes there are great parallelisms of thought. That is, Wittgenstein s pragmatic thought of the use of language does not concern only language, but also every socially built behavior. When we notice that the social and linguistic behavior are borne by the individual in a tacit way, that leads us to theorize about the prereflective dimension that builds human actions and even the habits of thought. The same processes allow the uses of language to build wider social practices. Besides, John Austin, one of Wittgenstein s disciples, and his speech acts theory, contribute with a way to reflecting on how language ressembles a concrete action. Finally, the linguistc therapy that Wittgenstein means to be his philosophical proposal is assimilated by Bourdieu, who takes it as one of the necessary topics of the sociological work

Esta dissertação de mestrado propõe analisar a seguinte questão: saber em que medida o habitus mostra ser um conceito relevante para as principais teorias sobre o conhecimento científico e tentar detectar quais são os fatores prováveis de sua omissão nas pesquisas em filosofia da ciência. No intuito de estudar a concepção de habitus científico e seus desdobramentos na história da filosofia, selecionei cinco pensadores consagrados que tratam do tema: Inicio com Aristóteles e sua teoria da hexis demonstrativa, passo ao estudo da negação do habitus científico na filosofia de Descartes; estudo a seguir, a posição de Hume que atribuía ao hábito à possibilidade de justificação do conhecimento científico; passo então pelas críticas de Kant à teoria humeana do hábito e, por fim, analiso as teorias contemporâneas sobre o conceito de habitus na sociologia da ciência de Pierre Bourdieu.
This master dissertation proposes to analyzes the following question: In what measure the concept of habitus is relevant the main theories of scientific knowledge and try to detect which are probable factors involved in its omission from philosophy of science´s researches. In order to study the conception of scientific habitus and its developments in the history of philosophy, I selected five philosophers which treat: I begin with Aristotle and its theorie of demonstrative hexis; I pass to the study of Descartes denial of a scientific habitus; I study Hume position, that attributed to habitus the possibility of justifying scientific knowledge; I pass through Kant´s critiques Hume´s of habit and finally I analyse the contemporary theories about the concept of habitus in Pierre Bourdieu\'s sociology of science.

Essa pesquisa objetiva compreender, a partir da perspectiva teórica de Pierre Bourdieu, o comportamento institucional do Conselho Superior do IFES, no mandato de 2014-2016, por meio da ótica de seus membros eleitos, visto que, este conselho, composto por representantes dos segmentos acadêmicos, possui uma particularidade intrigante, ou seja, a aprovação contumaz dos itens de reunião. Para tanto, será utilizada a história oral como método científico para a realização de entrevistas e a análise de conteúdo para a análise de dados. Os dados revelam que o habitus de conselheiro, que permite uma acumulação do capital simbólico valorizado no Conselho Superior do IFES, contribuiu para um distanciamento entre representantes e representados. O Conselho Superior possui características do campo político, por isso, a impossibilidade de compreender suas ações apenas pela documentação produzida, ou seja, ata e resoluções. Sua organização e regramento concede uma distinção aos dirigentes em função aos demais, os quais possuem o capital institucional, e por meio deste, exercem a violência simbólica aos demais, conservando a hierarquia do campo.

Le retour d’expatriation dans une perspective du marché du travail externe est un sujet sous-exploré. Nous empruntons la Théorie de la Pratique de Pierre Bourdieu afin de comparer le retour d’expatriation d’agents de carrière français et allemands sur le marché du travail externe de leur champ de carrière d’origine. Notre analyse démontre que le capital de carrière, ainsi que le habitus des agents de carrière Français et Allemands, se développent pendant l’expatriation. Ceci a alors un impact important sur la réintégration dans leur champ de carrière d’origine. Notre portefeuille d’éléments bourdieusiens critiques, ainsi que nos deux modèles de variables pour le retour en France et en Allemagne démontrent certaines similarités mais surtout de nombreuses différences concernant le retour sur le champ de carrière allemand et français. Si ces faits témoignent de l’existence de frontières nationales du champ de carrière, nos résultats montrent également que, dans un contexte de mobilité internationale, les règles du jeu changent comparé à un contexte de carrière purement national. Ceci remet alors en question la pertinence des modèles de carrière nationaux pour expliquer le retour d’expatriation dans un contexte franco-allemand. Notre recherche contribue à enrichir la littérature académique en clarifiant, dans un premier temps, les règles du jeu dans un contexte de retour d’expatriation franco-allemand. Elle démontre également que les champs de carrière bourdieusiens ne sont que partiellement autonomes et doivent être considérés en interaction avec les champs économiques et éducatifs afin d’obtenir une meilleure compréhension entière des mécanismes du retour
Repatriation from an external labor market perspective is a largely under-researched topic. Applying Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice and reconciling the culturalist and institutionalist approach in comparative research, this thesis compares the repatriation of German and French career agents into the external labor markets of their parent country career fields. We found that the German and French career agents’ career capital and habitus develops during expatriation, which has an important impact on the re-integration into the parent country career field. Based on our developed critical portfolio of elements for the successful return into the German and French career fields and resulting from our emerged German and French repatriation models, we found that the re-entry conditions into the German and French career fields are in some parts similar, but more strongly differ. While this indicates the existence of national borders of career fields, our results also show that in an international career mobility context, the rules of the game change compared to the rules in a pure national career context, which challenges the pertinence of national career models in understanding repatriation in our Franco-German context. Our research especially contributes to the existing literature by clarifying the rules of the game in a Franco-German repatriation context and by providing empirical evidence for the only partially autonomous nature of Bourdieuian career fields that must be viewed in interaction with the economic and educational field for creating a complete understanding of the return-mechanisms

Dans Les Règles de l'art, Bourdieu propose une science des œuvres. A l'aide des concepts de champ, d'habitus, d’espace des possibles, il tente de faire le lien entre la littéraire et le social. Son approche récuse toute tentation psychologisante et ferme la porte à toute explication du processus créatif en termes de génie, de sensibilité ou d’inspiration. La littérature est d’abord au carrefour des faits sociaux. Les textes sont des faits sociaux, comme apparition mais aussi comme expression. Ils ne sont ni à sacraliser ni à désacraliser. Bourdieu tente de rendre intelligible l’espace littéraire des auteurs. Il veut mettre en lumière ce qui rend l’œuvre d’art nécessaire, c’est-à-dire sa formule informatrice, son principe générateur, sa raison d’être. Il affirme qu'au fond l'écrivain, quelle que soit son orientation, n'a pas d'autres choix que d'être traversé par la sociologie de son époque. Il suggère même que tout effort de distanciation formelle, supposant que l'œuvre soit un ailleurs du réel, est signe de cette connaissance intuitive du réel lui-même. L’Education Sentimentale de Flaubert se prête particulièrement bien à ce paradigme analytique. I have used Pierre Bourdieu’s sociological approach as a critical tool for the study of literary texts. As a sociologist, Bourdieu is not satisfied with the notion that the literary text would be isolated from the world and considers the writer as a product of economic, social, religious or political circumstances that may be recovered through analysis. According to Bourdieu, the development of literature as an independent field goes hand in hand with the expansion of a liberal politics, a connection critics refuse to recognize as they will believe in the myth of inspired creation. Bourdieu retraces to the nineteenth century the moment when literature became independent and describes how twentieth-century literature is but a perpetuation of nineteenth-century literary myths. I also look at the ways the specialists of Flaubert responded to the publication of Les Règles de l’art as the book provoked heated debates when it was issued. I have especially examined the arguments of critics hostile to Bourdieu in order to demonstrate how such an emblematic figure as Flaubert embodies what is at stake when one questions the notion of literature. How can Bourdieu fit in literary studies? One has to be careful interpreting the title of Bourdieu’s book. Les Règles de l’art is no prescriptive book : Bourdieu is not the one who sets the rule nor does he suggest that there were no rules before the advent of the modern age. He is simply trying to show how, from the start of this period, the literary world is determined by specific social, political, economic and cultural conditions and questions the particular role played by the artist in this new state of things

This study examines the relationship between gender roles and habitus in service industry occupations. It draws primarily from the works of Pierre Bourdieu and Judith Butler. Data includes an exploratory focus group, non-participant observations and interviews with women currently or formerly employed as bartenders, bar backs, servers, or hostesses. The main themes that emerged included how habitus is affected by views of employment, drug and alcohol use, the naturalization of gender roles, and the effect of appearance standards. This study supports previous feminist works that posit that gender as a performance, not a biological trait. Further this performance is used to navigate specific social experiences such as those in a workplace. This paper also comments on current enforcement of Title VII with reference to gender discrimination.

Huvudsyftet med denna studie är att kartlägga vilka faktorer som påverkar i gymnasievalet. Frågeställningar som belyses är vilka faktorer som påverkar eleverna och vilka personer som är betydelsefulla. I studien diskuteras också skillnader mellan olika grupper som exempelvis kön. Metoden som valdes var enkätundersökning med elever i årskurs 9 som stod inför sitt gymnasieval. Resultatet visar att intresse och att programmet ska förbereda för högre studier är de faktorer som påverkar mest. Betydelsefulla personer är framförallt eleven själv, men också vårdnadshavare. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt har Pierre Bourdieus begreppsram använts. Resultatet visar att vårdnadshavarnas utbildningsnivå har en direkt påverkan på elevens meritvärde vilket i sin tur påverkar valet mot ett bredare program med inriktning mot teoretiska ämnen. Det finns ett samband mellan vilket intresse som utvecklas och elevens habitus. Vårdnadshavarnas informationskapital och skolkapital påverkar också elevens val av program.
The main objective of this study is to identify factors that affect the high school choice. The research questions highlights factors that affect students and which persons were significant. The study also discusses the differences between various groups such as sex. The chosen method was a questionnaire survey of students in grade 9 who were facing their election. The results showed that interest and the program to prepare for higher studies was the factors that impacted the most. Important people were mainly pupils themselves, but also parents. As a theoretical point, Pierre Bourdieu's conceptual framework has been used. The results shown that parents education has a direct impact on the student's merit rating, which affects the choice of a broader program focusing on academic subjects. There is a relationship between the interest which is being developed and the student's habitus. Parents' information capital and school capital also affects the student's choice of programs.

Ungdomars liv präglas idag allt mer av datorer där datorn används flitigt både hemma och i skolan. Vår studie belyser gymnasieungdomars vanor kring datoranvändning och hur vanorna skiljer sig åt mellan elevers olika uppsättningar av habitus.     Vi valde att göra en kvalitativ undersökning med en induktiv-deduktiv metod. Varför vi valde den metoden grundar sig i att det inte sedan tidigare existerar några teorier inom området som uppsatsen kan verifiera eller förkasta samt att studiens resultat tolkades utifrån Bourdieus teorier om habitus och kapital.    Datamaterialet samlades in genom fjorton stycken semi-strukturerade intervjuer vid två olika gymnasieprogram som präglas av olika mängd utbildningskapital. Respondenternas svar bearbetades genom teman som skapades för att finna likheter och skillnader för gymnasieprogrammen samt att hitta kulturella gemensamma särdrag.     Undersökningen ger en varierande bild av de konsekvenser som datoranvändningen kan orsaka.

Resultat och slutsats: Det som framkommit från intervjuerna är att dramapedagogiken fått höjd status, ett breddat arbetsfält samt till viss del förändrade definitioner om vad dramapedagogik är. Fler dramapedagoger jobbar nu som egna företagare inom verksamhetsområden som kan tyckas ligga långt från det fält där dramapedagogiken ursprungligen kom till i Sverige. Resumo: Este trabalho tem por pretensão estabelecer um diálogo críticoentre os textos de "juventude" de György Lukács e Pierre Bourdieu, ressaltando que, ao partirmos de um recorte temporal entre "juventude" e "maturidade", o fazemos enquanto uma divisão exclusivamente geracional a ser utilizada como recurso método-analítico. Logo, esta dissertação não tem qualquer pretensão em defender uma separação substantiva e radical entre as obras nesses recortestemporais ¿ capaz de fundar uma oposição: jovem X velho. Ao contrário, defendemos uma relação genética entre as etapas, ainda que com rupturas e mudanças qualitativas fundamentais. Elencamos, para tanto, duas categorias ¿ hipótese levantada por este trabalho ¿ que, a nosso ver, concentram a questão do lugar da subjetividade na teoria social, ou, para começarmos a apontar os pressupostos que perpassam nossa pesquisa, a relação entre a subjetividade (consciência) e objetividade, do ponto de vista de uma ontologia materialista do ser social. Abstract: This work has the intention to establish a critical dialogue between the texts of "youth" of György Lukács and Pierre Bourdieu, noting that we do, to leave a time frame between "youth" and "maturity" while a purely generational divide to be used as a method-analytical resource. Therefore, this dissertation has no claim to defend a substantive and radical separation between these works clippings temporal - capable of founding an opposition: young X old. Unlike advocate a genetic relationship between the stages, and even with tear fundamental qualitative changes. We list both for two categories - hypothesis for this work - which, in our view, focus the question of the place of subjectivity in social theory, or, to begin to point out the assumptions that underlie our research, the relationship between subjectivity (consciousness) and objectively from the point of view of a materialist ontology of social being. The starting point of French philosopher and sociologist Pierre Bourdieu?s theoretical construct are inequalities in social reality. In seeking to understand social reality and the individual's position in it, the author develops a theory aimed at overcoming the dichotomy between the subjectivist and objectivist theories of his time. Taking relational thinking as a guide to the theory identified as structuralist constructivism or constructivist structuralism, the author proposes to highlight from empirical research the practical sense in the actions of social agents. This proposal results in a practice theory or praxeology, in which practice is the driver of positions, dispositions and position-taking by social agents. Thus, the concepts of habitus, field and capital are developed to provide an overview of the social environment from the notion of social space. On these grounds, the aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate the interrelationship between the triad of concepts: habitus, field and capital. In order to achieve this goal, it proposes an initial contextualization of the Bourdieusian thought in space-time, followed by an independent presentation of each concept, and finally a survey of the points which help demonstrate the interrelations between the triad of Bourdieusian concepts.

The context of the scientific research can be considered as a scientific field, a social space formed by power relations between agents which accumulate scientific capital. The operation of this field produces and assumes a specific form of interest, contaminated by the knowledge of the position occupied on the hierarchies established in the field that directly influence the scientific practices choices. In this essay was aimed to understand the research agents scientific practice in strategy in the academic programs in stricto sensu in Brazil, under the Bourdieu's perspective. The research s strategy combined aspects of praxiology proposed by Bourdieu with the study technique of collective case and involved statistical analysis with a set of in-depth interviews. The main findings demonstrates that scientific practices perform as a mechanical reaction, directly determined by the conditions that precede it, adjusted by the requirements contained in the field structures. It was identified in the research, among the epistemological approaches reviewed, the predominance of studies that seek to build objective relations in which the social agent appears as a mere performer of something that is objectively programmed, that is external and the hegemony of quantitative research. Finally, it was noticed that the scientific practice of agents on research in strategy rely on the recognition of a competence which, beyond the effects it produces, provides authority and contributes to define not only game s rules but also its regularity
O contexto da pesquisa científica pode ser considerado como campo científico, um espaço social formado por relações de força entre agentes que acumulam capital científico. O funcionamento desse campo produz e supõe uma forma específica de interesses, contaminado pelo conhecimento da posição ocupada nas hierarquias instituídas do campo e que influenciam diretamente as escolhas das práticas científicas. O estudo que se apresenta buscou compreender, sob a ótica de Bourdieu, a prática científica dos agentes das pesquisas em estratégia nos programas acadêmicos stricto sensu em administração no Brasil. A estratégia da pesquisa combinou aspectos da praxiologia proposta por Bourdieu e a técnica de estudo de caso coletivo e envolveu análises estatísticas com um conjunto de entrevistas em profundidade. Os principais achados demonstram que as práticas científicas funcionam como uma reação mecânica, diretamente determinada pelas condições que a antecedem, ajustadas às exigências inscritas nas estruturas do campo. Identificou-se, na pesquisa analisada, quanto às abordagens epistemológicas revisadas, a predominância de estudos que buscam construir relações objetivas em que o agente social aparece como mero executante de algo que se encontra objetivamente programado, que lhe é exterior, e a hegemonia de pesquisas quantitativas. Por fim, foi possível perceber que a prática científica dos agentes nas pesquisas em estratégia repousa sobre o reconhecimento de uma competência que, para além dos efeitos que ela produz, proporciona autoridade e contribui para definir não somente as regras do jogo, mas também sua regularidade.

Background: Over the past few years Swedish fashion has expanded and gained attention, both in Sweden and abroad. Every year fashion weeks take place around the world with the purpose of showcasing fashion designers new collections for the up-coming season.

Fashion week in Sweden is arranged in Stockholm four times a year in the end of January, in February, in the turn of June and July and in August. The different occasions have different activities and focus. The main focus of January and June/July are fashion shows and the main focus of February and August are trade fairs for buyers and wholesalers. The fashion shows and trade fairs are closed to the public, but other fashion events directed to the public takes place during these weeks. Seeing as many stakeholders are involved in fashion week they all have some kind of relationship to one another. This makes fashion week in Stockholm an interesting case to study and analyze from a sociological theoretical approach.

This thesis draws on a Bourdieusian perspective to explore the organisational mechanisms and dynamics in Palestinian politically motivated social movement. The consequent body of literature often lacks an integrated comprehension of Bourdieusian theory, and his three main concepts: field, habitus, and capital. Little has been understood about Bourdieu’s concepts in social movement context to understand the activists’ behaviours, practices, and practical reasoning in structuring their choices and practices. Being inspired by Bourdieu, the researcher relationally analyses and bridges between different subjectivist and objectivist perspectives on social structures and agents’ practices through employing the relational tool-kit of Bourdieu. To further understand the dynamics, mechanisms, and interorganisational and intraorganisational relations in social movements, an interpretive approach was used to gather context-rich data from ordinary activists, core activists and organisers. Findings showed that fields of practices, both external and internal, have specific doxa and species of capital, which shape the rules of the game inside this field, and its relationship with other fields. Data collected found that the ‘state field’ enjoys the most dominant doxa in the Palestinian context, which is deployed to legitimise the oppression of the politically-motivated youth movements that were studied. The external and internal fields’ doxa have a crucial influence on agents’ early socialisation, forms of capital, and field’s positioning. This variation and difference between the activists’ habitus caused multiple modes of domination and conflictual dynamics inside the movement itself in relation to features such as political credibility, recruiting parochialism, ideological conflicts, and repertoires of contention. This study contributes to a more dynamic understanding of the habitus as an open mediating concept and a reflexive space which transforms the activists’ behaviours and actions in some incidents. The findings have implications for social movement practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders such as activism groups and bodies, pressure groups, unions, and human rights and civil society associations. It is suggested that future research examining politically-motivated social movements should consider ethnographic methods to capture multiple observational data and contextual findings. In addition, it is suggested further examine habitus mechanisms in reproduction, change and transformation times.

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka likheter och skillnader i de olika val pedagoger gör när de använder sig av musik i förskolan. Metoden som valdes för att undersöka detta var att göra semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer med ett antal pedagoger som arbetade på olika förskolor i en stad i Mellansverige under hösten 2020. Ett särskilt fokus lades på pedagogernas uppväxtförhållanden och deras musikaliska erfarenheter från barndomen för att kunna koppla detta till Bourdieus teorier om det kulturella kapitalet och habitus. I analysen av empirin diskuterades det på vilket sätt pedagogernas sociala bakgrund och deras kulturella erfarenheter under uppväxten kunde kopplas till deras användning av musik i förskolan. I studien kom det fram att det finns ett visst samband mellan pedagogernas sociala bakgrund och kulturella erfarenheter, och de musikaliska val de gör i verksamheten. I intervjuerna märktes att de som hade vuxit upp i mer musikaliska miljöer också resonerade mer utvecklat om musikanvändningen på förskolan. De hade ett större kulturellt kapital med sig i sitt habitus och de kunde använda sitt habitus som ett kapital inom förskolan och även applicera detta på musiken. Det var dock flera av de intervjuade som nämnde att de skulle vilja förändra och utveckla musikundervisningen och den musikaliska tillgängligheten på sina förskolor. Några var också inne i en sådan process. En del pedagoger nämnde i intervjuerna att de ibland spelade exempelvis musik från andra delar av världen, men i de flesta fall var det trots allt blandande barnvisor, popmusik av olika slag samt lugn musik som mest spelades på förskolorna.

Research into choosing individuals to fill positions at or near board level in organisations is scarce; however we know that interviewing is the dominant selection practice. The research into selection interviewing at junior and middle levels is extensive. Overwhelmingly it takes the form of scientific (typically psychological) studies of independent, interacting individuals understood in either rational agent or stimulus-response modes. This research narrates the author’s involvement as an expert adviser to the board of a UK non-profit in the selection of their chief executive. The narrative material is interrogated using the concepts of habitus and practice as developed by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. This work builds on explorations of power, skill and intuition which use further narratives of the author’s experience as an interviewer and a leader, and also a participant in the management doctorate programme at the University of Hertfordshire. Previously the author worked for eighteen years in executive search. The author argues that both the practice of senior selection interviewing and its theorisation are damaged by too narrowly scientific a discourse which neglects substantial strands of relevant scholarship (for example within broader management studies, sociology, critical theory and philosophy). Behavioural competencies and transferable skills – bedrock concepts in contemporary human resource ‘best practice’, including selection – are called into question. The author experiences the practice of senior selection interviewing as stuck, caught between cynical and scientific interpretations of itself (that is, self-interested power play and disinterested measurement). Neither perspective yields a productive dialectic. The ideas of habitus and practice open a different understanding which does not simply reject the preceding perspectives but attempts to advance beyond them.

Abstract:
This is a study on how a group of ten pupils choose their upper secondary schools (gymnasium). All pupils are ninth graders in a middle school in Husby which is a suburb of Stockholm. Like the big majority of Husby citizens, they all have immigrant backgrounds and their time in Sweden varies; some are born here while others are born abroad and migrated later with their parents. My aim was to understand their upper secondary school choices through own and their parents’ "cultural capital". I based my study on Bourdieu’s theory on social reproduction and I used his terminology and definitions of cultural capital, interest, field, habitus and strategies. I investigated if and in what way these children follow the tracks of their parents in terms of future educational and working plans but even in terms of common cultural and leisure activities and the way they affect their upper secondary school choice. The Swedish upper secondary school is divided in 18 different specializations, 12 technical and 6 theoretical, respectively. In the first, the pupils are prepared for a technical profession and in the second, they prepare for further academic studies. I was interested in finding out the pupils’ strategies in fulfilling their educational and professional dreams in connection with their choice of upper secondary specialization and their parents’ educational and cultural interests and backgrounds. I used a qualitative method, specifically interviews. I transcribed the interviews and I tried to relate what was said to Bourdieu’s theory. I was mostly inspired by the phenomenological approach where the interviewer avoids taking position and focuses on the message the person being interviewed tries to communicate. Most families in my study have a relatively law cultural capital and even though some have had academic studies and high status professions in their home countries they have had jobs that did not match their education level in Sweden. Most children aim high in the educational rank and especially those who come from high educated parents seem to have a better knowledge of the Swedish educational system and how to better move into it.

This research aims to examine how migrant families living in England establish their family language policy and practice. It is set within a context of increased levels of transnational migration and globalisation (OECD, 2015). The number of migrant families in which parents have different language backgrounds is increasing on a European level (Lanzieri, 2012) and in London one in three families is thought to be multilingual (OECD, 2010). This has implications for research into the role of languages for education of children from migrant families. According to the Department for Education (DfE, 2017) in England, the percentage of pupils who are believed to be exposed to a language other than English at home has been steadily increasing since 2006, and in 2017, 20.6 per cent of primary school pupils and 16.2 per cent of secondary school pupils had English as an additional language. While some research has investigated how children from migrant families succeed at school by measuring their educational outcomes, there are a lack of studies which explore what is happening within migrant families themselves: how and why do some migrant families in the same context practise and maintain their heritage languages, while others do not? (Curdt-Christiansen, 2009, 2016). To examine the ways in which migrant families in England decide on their family language policy and practice, this study adopts a coherent model which integrates two theoretical frameworks, namely Pierre Bourdieu’s (1977b) theory of social practice with its concepts of habitus, field and capital, and Family Language Policy (FLP). The aim of bringing together the two theoretical frameworks is to examine how family language policy and practice is mediated by the families’ subjective experience and the conditions in the objective social context of which they are a part. This study employs ethnographic methods of inquiry including interviews, participant observations and family self-audio recordings to allow for an in-depth exploration of the ways in which five migrant families in England set up their family language policy and practice. The mothers in the families are all Macedonian and the fathers are either English, Italian, Chinese, Scottish or Serbian. Ethnographic interviews were conducted with the parents in five migrant families, their children, grandparents and relatives, the parents’ and the children’ close social network of friends, the children’s mainstream school teachers and members of the Macedonian community in London. The analysis of each family case focuses on the family language policy and practice and the parents’ language ideologies and aspirations that underpin them. The study also analyses the ways in which the national language education policy context in England structures the family language policy and practice. The findings suggest that the family language policy and practice in migrant families is established based on the ways in which the parents mediate their past experiences including their family upbringing, education and employment as migrants in England (habitus) and the cultural, linguistic, social and economic resources they are able or unable to draw on (capital) within the context of national and local language education policies and practices in England (field).

O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de investigar e analisar o habitus e a construção de expectativas e estratégias de formação e trabalho de alunos de duas escolas públicas do Ensino Médio de um município do Estado de São Paulo, uma delas localizada na zona rural e outra na zona urbana. Para tal, levou-se em conta a socialização dos agentes e seus aspectos econômicos, sociais, culturais, familiares e subjetivos, com base na teoria de Bourdieu. A pesquisa de campo se deu através da aplicação de questionários e realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com alunos e algumas de suas mães. Buscamos fazer comparações entre os casos mais favorecidos, no que se refere às condições objetivas de distribuição dos diferentes capitais, mais identificados nos alunos da escola de zona urbana, com os casos de maior escassez, mais relativos aos alunos da escola de zona rural. Nos centramos na análise dos dados obtidos sobre os níveis de capital econômico, cultural e social dos alunos, bem como sobre as estratégias escolares e de trabalho deles e de seus familiares. Analisamos as estratégias com base na compreensão de sua relação com o habitus e modo de vida de cada estudante. Pudemos perceber que as expectativas de formação e trabalho dos alunos e as estratégias por eles lançadas antes e após a formação na Educação Básica relacionam-se ao habitus de cada um e às situações objetivas com as quais se deparavam. De modo geral, os alunos da zona urbana apresentavam expectativas mais altas com relação aos estudos que os alunos da zona rural. Consideramos que estes últimos, em função de práticas e disposições interiorizadas, predominantemente caracterizadas pela primazia do trabalho sobre o estudo, ainda que apresentassem expectativas relativas ao prolongamento da escolarização, tenderiam a permanecer tão somente em atividades de trabalho. Seus modos de vida e de socialização, muitos deles com ingresso no trabalho ainda quando crianças, assim como o capital cultural, elemento dificultador da continuidade dos estudos, seriam indicativos desta tendência. Já os alunos da escola urbana, cujas condições objetivas de vida, expressas em capitais cultural e social ligeiramente mais substantivos que os primeiros e por práticas e estratégias de estudo e trabalho, de certo modo, diferenciados, apresentavam maior interesse de ingresso no ensino superior, ainda que condicionados à conciliação com o trabalho em alguns casos. De modo geral, os sonhos e ambições revelados pelos estudantes nem sempre correspondiam às suas práticas e com o que era vivenciado na realidade objetiva, de forma que muitos tenderiam a restringir suas ações em conformidade com aquilo que realmente seria mais provável e/ou possível de se realizar, em detrimento de ideais que potencialmente pudessem transformar seus modos de vida. A importância dos prolongamentos dos estudos apresentou-se, assim, como desejável, mas nem sempre factível. Não obstante a força da reprodução do habitus e modos de vida e socialização sejam condizentes à causalidade do provável, é necessário reconhecer que as disposições interiorizadas e as condições objetivas, além de envolver contradições, são passíveis de mudanças, sendo o capital cultural e o social fatores fundamentais para tal.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de investigar e analisar o habitus e a construção de expectativas e estratégias de formação e trabalho de alunos de duas escolas públicas do Ensino Médio de um município do Estado de São Paulo, uma delas localizada na zona rural e outra na zona urbana. Para tal, levou-se em conta a socialização dos agentes e seus aspectos econômicos, sociais, culturais, familiares e subjetivos, com base na teoria de Bourdieu. A pesquisa de campo se deu através da aplicação de questionários e realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com alunos e algumas de suas mães. Buscamos fazer comparações entre os casos mais favorecidos, no que se refere às condições objetivas de distribuição dos diferentes capitais, mais identificados nos alunos da escola de zona urbana, com os casos de maior escassez, mais relativos aos alunos da escola de zona rural. Nos centramos na análise dos dados obtidos sobre os níveis de capital econômico, cultural e social dos alunos, bem como sobre as estratégias escolares e de trabalho deles e de seus familiares. Analisamos as estratégias com base na compreensão de sua relação com o habitus e modo de vida de cada estudante. Pudemos perceber que as expectativas de formação e trabalho dos alunos e as estratégias por eles lançadas antes e após a formação na Educação Básica relacionam-se ao habitus de cada um e às situações objetivas com as quais se deparavam. De modo geral, os alunos da zona urbana apresentavam expectativas mais altas com relação aos estudos que os alunos da zona rural. Consideramos que estes últimos, em função de práticas e disposições interiorizadas, predominantemente caracterizadas pela primazia do trabalho sobre o estudo, ainda que apresentassem expectativas relativas ao prolongamento da escolarização, tenderiam a permanecer tão somente em atividades de trabalho. Seus modos de vida e de socialização, muitos deles com ingresso no trabalho ainda quando crianças, assim como o capital cultural, elemento dificultador da continuidade dos estudos, seriam indicativos desta tendência. Já os alunos da escola urbana, cujas condições objetivas de vida, expressas em capitais cultural e social ligeiramente mais substantivos que os primeiros e por práticas e estratégias de estudo e trabalho, de certo modo, diferenciados, apresentavam maior interesse de ingresso no ensino superior, ainda que condicionados à conciliação com o trabalho em alguns casos. Genom denna studie ämnade vi besvara hur kapitaltillgångar och habitus påverkar ungdomars resonemang, sett till utbildning och karriär, baserat på bostadsområdestillhörighet. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur uppväxten i segregerade bostadsområden med olika socioekonomisk status påverkar ungdomars handlingsstrategier vad gäller utbildning och karriär. Vår tes var att ungdomars handlingsstrategier skiljer sig baserat på bostadsområdestillhörighet. Vi trodde att ungdomar från bostadsområden med högre socioekonomisk status är mer resursstarka och därigenom enklare kan navigera sig inom utbildningsfältet. Studien utgår från Lidingö och Botkyrka, två boendesegregerade områden i Stockholms län med olika socioekonomisk status, där Lidingö är mer resursstarkt. Vidare utgår denna studie från en kvalitativ metod i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer, där fyra högstadieungdomar i årskurs nio, två av dem är hemmahörande på Lidingö och två i Botkyrka, har intervjuats. Studiens teori grundar sig på Pierre Bourdieus teoretiska begrepp: symboliskt kapital, kulturellt kapital, utbildningskapital, socialt kapital samt habitus. Vi har kunnat urskilja att ungdomarna i denna studie har olika mått av kapitaltillgångar beroende på bostadsområdestillhörighet och att detta i sin tur lett fram till olika habitus. Lidingöungdomarna uppvisade både ett högre mått av socialt och kulturellt kapital än Botkyrkaungdomarna. Detta kan emellertid vara en avgörande faktor till att ungdomarnas resonemang och handlingsstrategier vad gäller utbildning och karriär skiljer sig områdena emellan. Till skillnad från Botkyrkaungdomarna, uppvisade Lidingöungdomarna både klara framtidsmål, sett till utbildning och karriär, samt genomtänkta handlingsstrategier kring hur de ska gå tillväga för att uppnå dessa mål. Genom studiens empiriska material har således vår tes kunnat styrkas.

Depuis les années 1950, des chercheurs comme Useem, Pollock, Van Reken et d’autres se sont interrogés sur le sujet des enfants qui ont grandi dans plusieurs pays. Cependant, la grande majorité de ce corpus vise les enfants ayant été scolarisés dans des établissements anglophones même s’il existe de nombreux établissements francophones hors la France. Ce projet vise cette population. Nous nous sommes demandés s’ils faisaient partie d’une double minorité, premièrement la minorité de Nomades Globaux (NG) mais dans cette population s’ils faisant partie d’une minorité francophone de NG. Pour ce faire, nous avons conduit des entrevues semi-structurées avec 12 participants en utilisant un cadre théorique construit autour de l’habitus de Pierre Bourdieu. Bien que nous ne puissions tirer de conclusions générales, il semble que ces NG ne se sentent pas comme faisant partie d’une double minorité.

Thus far, Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of capital, field and habitus have not been discussed together with the literature a teacher chooses in the subject English at a Swedish secondary school. However, this study aims to provide more research in this area, as well as how the concepts of capital, field and habitus affect the teacher in how he or she works with literature. This essay discusses the choice of literature of four teachers, as well as how the teachers work with the literature in the classroom. Furthermore, this essay observes that these teachers’ colleagues, time and experience are important factors in their choice of literature and teaching methods. Since these specific factors were found important, the essay concludes that Bourdieu’s concepts of capital and field are more represented than his idea of habitus in the teachers’ choice of literature, as well as how they work with the literature. This conclusion has been made since the teachers used the same approaches when it came to teaching literature, even though they did not have the same education or experience. In other words, the different habitus the teachers have, in this case their education, are in the end almost irrelevant since the teachers used the same approaches as each other, no matter what education they had or when they had it.

I Sveriges musikbransch råder det idag en skev fördelning mellan kvinnor och män på inflytelserika positioner. Den skeva könsfördelningen, där det på de beslutsfattande positionerna syns en tydlig manlig dominans har blivit starkt uppmärksammad de senaste åren, vilket väckt intresset för föreliggande studie. Studiens fokus ligger på de kvinnliga aktörer som har lyckats inta inflytelserika positioner. Syftet med studien är att få en förståelse för vilka faktorer som legat till grund för det inflytande dessa kvinnor erhållit. Utifrån det har forskningsfrågan: “Går det att se likheter och skillnader i respondenternas bakgrund, samt i den kunskap de har förvärvat som gör att de erhållit inflytande i musikbranschen?” därför formulerats. Studien är av kvalitativ metod och baseras på semi-strukturerade intervjuer med tio kvinnor som erhållit inflytande i musikbranschen. De intervjuade kvinnorna är i alfabetisk ordning: Cecilia Ancker, My Blomgren, Emelie Bååth, Marie Dimberg, Karin Gunnarsson, Helen McLaughlin, Theodora Nordqvist, Hilda Sandgren, Anna Sjölund och Lena Åberg Frisk. Utifrån studiens syfte används Pierre Bourdieus teori om fält, kapital och habitus för att undersöka vilket kapital som är av mest relevans då man intresserar sig för att erövra en inflytelserik position inom musikbranschen. Den empiri som erhållits påvisar att de kapital som anses mest viktiga för att nå en hög position är erfarenhet och sociala relationer. Vad samtliga respondenter har gemensamt, och som onekligen verkat för deras inflytelserika position de idag besitter, är den erfarenhet de ackumulerat. Analysen av empirin har lett till slutsatsen att vikten av erfarenhet och genomförande även är viktigare än en formell utbildning. Vad respondenterna vittnar om talar sitt klara språk: det sociala kapitalet blir en tillgång som förvaltas och omvandlas till en ökad kunskap, likt ett branschspecifikt utbildningskapital och är tillsammans med erfarenhetskapitalet de mest relevanta kapitalen för att erhålla inflytande i musikbranschen.
In today’s Swedish music industry, there is an uneven distribution of women and men among the influential positions. The male dominance in the industry has been highly debated in recent years, which brought the interest for this study. The study is therefore focused on females that have managed to occupy influential positions. The study aims to gain an understanding of the factors that enabled these women to obtain their influence in the music industry. Based on this purpose, our research question is "Is it possible to see similarities and differences among the respondents' backgrounds, and in their acquired knowledge, which has enabled their achieved power in the music industry?” The research takes a qualitative approach, based on semi-structured interviews with ten women who all hold influential positions in the music industry. The women interviewed are, in alphabetical order: Cecilia Ancker, My Blomgren, Emelie Bååth, Marie Dimberg, Karin Gunnarsson, Helen McLaughlin, Theodora Nordqvist, Hilda Sandgren, Anna Sjölund och Lena Åberg Frisk. Based on the study's purpose, Pierre Bourdieu's theory of field, capital and habitus is used as a theoretical framework to explore which capital is of most relevance when one is interested in acquiring an influential position in the music industry. The empirical data obtained shows that the capital considered most important for achieving an influential position is practical experience and social networking. Accumulating practical experience is a common trait among all respondents. The analysis of empirical data has led us to the conclusion that the importance of experience and execution is more important than formal education in the field. The respondents’ testimonials all conclude: The capital of social networking is an asset that is converted into knowledge; knowledge that is particularly important within the music industry, and can be considered an industry specific education. The capital of social networking, combined with practical experience, is the most relevant capital in order to obtain influence in the music industry.

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar as atitudes dos professores de Educação Física nas diversas manifestações da sexualidade de seus alunos. Uma vez que, a construção social do corpo dá-se a partir das experiências vivenciadas ao longo da trajetória de vida do agente, identificamos como dispositivos estruturantes do comportamento, as interferências adquiridas e como produto delas, as atitudes destes professores. Quando falamos de sexualidade, nos referimos ao objeto de uma identidade construída a partir de um processo histórico e de influências sociais de instituições como escola, família, igreja e sociedade. Sendo conteúdo programático dentro dos PCN´s (Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais), os Temas Transversais debatem a sexualidade como questão social, os quais devem ser abordados pelos educadores em suas disciplinas. De caráter sociológico, esta investigação teve como aporte metodológico a pesquisa qualitativa com entrevistas semi- estruturadas , como ferramenta. Foram entrevistados três educadores físicos, que lecionavam nos primeiros anos do ensino fundamental I, em instituições públicas, em um município do interior paulista. O roteiro utilizado para nortear as entrevistas foi composto por 52 questões capazes de identificar a trajetória social desses agentes. As análises foram realizadas por meio das categorias de análise de Bourdieu. Como resultados encontrados, pudemos ratificar a teoria embasada, ao observar características sociais marcadas no comportamento dos educadores, em suas intervenções. Elucidamos, portanto a formação do habitus dos educadores como estruturas sociais determinantes, adquiridas à priore no seio familiar e reestruturadas pelo meio em que o agente está inserido.
This research aims to analyze the attitudes of physical education teachers in the diverse manifestations of their students' sexuality. Thinking that the social construction of the body takes place from the experiences lived along the life trajectory of the agent, we identify the interferences acquired as structuring devices of behavior and as product of them, the attitudes of these teachers. When we speak of sexuality we refer to the object of an identity built from a historical process and social influences of institutions such as school, family, church and society. Being a programmatic content within the National Curriculum Parameters (NCPs), the Transversal Themes debate sexuality as a social issue, which must be addressed by the educators in their disciplines. Of sociological character, This research had the qualitative research as a methodological contribution with semi-structured interviews. Three physical educators were interviewed, who taught in the first years of elementary school I, in public institutions, in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo. The script used to guide the interviews was composed of 52 questions capable of identifying the social trajectory of these agents. Analyzes were performed using Bourdieu's analysis categories. As found results, we can rectify the theory based on observing social characteristics marked in the behavior of educators, in their interventions. Therefore, we elucidate the formation of the educators' habitus as determinant social structures, acquired from the inside and restructured by the environment in which the agent is inserted.

O Agente Comunitário de Saúde é descrito pela literatura como o #elo de ligação# entre o usuário e o Sistema Único de Saúde, pois, ele é a porta de entrada dos dados, das angústias e dores da população, geralmente a mais carente (mas, nem sempre) que ao ser abordada presta informações relevantes que servirão para implementações dos programas de saúde, desde a Atenção Básica até os atendimentos hospitalares de Alta Complexidade. Ao longo da construção dessa dissertação permaneceram as ambivalências e controvérsias quanto a essa relevância apontada, pois, trata-se de um cidadão comum, com baixa escolaridade e que faz parte de uma determinada categoria dentro da complexidade social e que, em sua maioria, não se considera influência direta nas tomadas de decisão nas políticas públicas de saúde. Antes, o ACS é parte integrante do seu Bairro, mais especificamente, da sua área, que compreende um determinado número de ruas, casas e pessoas, numa relação diária quando os problemas aparecem e a solução, geralmente, lhe foge das mãos. As narrativas dos ACS revelaram uma trajetória social comum, marcada por sonhos irrealizados, interrupções dos estudos e subempregos. Para muitos ter a #carteira assinada# e o primeiro emprego formal levou à percepção das capacidades em dar respostas às necessidades da comunidade e do potencial pessoal, o que possibilitou a descoberta da #vocação#, auto-realização, conscientização e motivação para o contínuo aprendizado. Associando sua trajetória à da população a que assiste, o ACS toma consciência que o potencial comunitário será fortalecido pelo conhecimento, propiciado por parcerias na área educacional
The Community Health Agent is described in the literature as the "glue" between the user and Health System, because it is the gateway to data, the anguish and pain of the population, usually the poorest (but not always) to be addressed to provide relevant information which would assist in implementation of health programs, from primary carevisits to the hospital of high complexity. Throughout the construction of this dissertationremained the ambivalences and controversies regarding this pointed relevance, because it is an ordinary citizen, with low education and that is part of a specific category within the social complexity and, mostly, not is considered a direct influence ondecision making in public health policies. Previously, the ACS is an integral part of theirneighborhood, more specifically in your area, which comprises a number of streets,houses and people in a relationship when problems appear daily and the solutionusually escapes his hands. The narratives of the ACS revealed a common socialhistory, marked by unfulfilled dreams, interruption of studies and underemployed. For many have "formal" and the first job led to the perception of capabilities to respond to community needs and potential staff, which enabled the discovery of "calling," self-realization, awareness and motivation for continuing education . I denna uppsats undersöks habitus påverkan på vilken slags festival människor väljer att besöka och varför. Med dagens stora utbud av festivaler och det nya festivallandskapet som har växt fram de senaste åren finns det något för alla som är intresserade. Syftet är att med hjälp av kvalitativa intervjuer försöka definiera vad det är som gör en festival intressant för vissa och helt ointressant för andra och hur detta kan kopplas samman med Bourdieus teori om habitus. För att stärka teorin används även två av Bourdieus andra teorier inom det sociologiska fältet, symboliskt kapital och det sociala fältet. Studien har visat att informanternas intresse för musik och för att besöka festivaler startade när de var unga. Med åren har deras habitus förändrats och vad man vill få ut av en festival i vuxen ålder skiljer sig från vad som ansågs viktigt när man var yngre. Tydliga exempel är att man vill sova gott och att man inte vill ”vara fast” på ett festivalområde. Därför har stadsfestivalerna blivit ett alternativ för många. Dock finns det grundläggande syftet till varför man besöker en festival kvar även i vuxen ålder; man vill höra musik och njuta av stämningen. Detta är något som inte är begränsat till vilken festival man besöker utan styrs av smak och sociala grupper. När det finns både campingfestivaler och stadsfestivaler ges individen möjlighet att välja och det finns något för alla som vill besöka festivaler. Uppsatsen ligger inom det musiksociologiska forskningsområdet och tar upp frågor gällande interaktionen mellan personer, deras habitus och deras festivalupplevelser. Tillsammans bildar de ett forskningsområde som inte har berörts tidigare.

För att förstå den sociala skiktningen på arbetsmarknaden behövs mer djupgående förståelse kring individers familjebakgrund och uppväxtvillkor. De samhälleliga institutionerna, så som akademiska institutioner formar individer och är en av de avgörande faktorerna för individernas framtidsutsikter (Evertsson och Magnusson, 2014, s. 237). Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka individers förutsättningar i arbetslivet utifrån Pierre Bourdieus teoretiska ramverk. Studien använder begreppet habitus för att ta reda på hur individer genom strukturella egenskaper och ansamlat kapital positionerar sig i klassystemet. En högre position i arbetslivet ger individerna en högre grad av makt och kontroll i samhällsstrukturen. Därför undersökte vi vad det är i habitus som gör att individer når en högre position. Arbetsmarknadsposition och således klassposition framställs i studien genom att använda Eriksons, Goldthorpes och Portocareros (1979) klasschema, som utifrån yrkesspecifika kunskaper och egenskaper indelar individerna i breda sociala klasser. Med hjälp av data från LNU 2010 påvisade studiens resultat, framställd genom logistisk regression, att strukturella egenskaper förmedlade genom föräldrarnas strukturella egenskaper, är en viktig beståndsdel i individernas positionering. Kulturellt kapital, vilket individer ansamlar genom utbildning och bildning, visade dock sig också ha en central roll i individernas möjlighet till att nå en yrkesposition som förknippas med en högre socialklass.

Detta kommer att granskas utifrån ett kultursociologiskt perspektiv och de teorier som kommer appliceras på frågeställningarna är Pierre Bourdieus teorier om habitus, fältet och det kulturella kapitalet. Till det tillkommer ethosdiskussioner och resonemang kring den implicite läsaren och den implicite författaren. Materialel består av dagstidningarna Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen och Svenska Dagbladets kultursidor under en nyhetsvecka. Undersökingen har både kvantitativa och kvalitativa aspekter. Resultaten visar att kulturreferenser i de flesta fallen är en rent estetisk utsmyckning av en text, alternativt används för att sätta in ett ämne i en viss historisk kontext. Detta kan vara ett sätt för skribenten att stärka sin trovärdighet. Vanligtvis refereras det till företeelser som är inom samma kulturella sfär som det som avhandlas, därefter är referenser till företeelser som förknippas med ett högre kapital vanligast. Att referera till kulturyttringar med ett lägre kulturellt kapital är ytterst ovanligt. Det som förknippas med ett högt kulturellt kapital betraktas oftast som bra kultur och när populärkulturella ämnen pryds med sådana referenser är det ett sätt att stärka det populärkulturella ämnets värde.

Using the Wood Royal Commission into the New South Wales Police Service in 1994 as its major case study, this thesis hypothesises that, although this inquiry had a far reaching impact on both the personal and working lives of police officers in the organisation itself, it proved ineffectual in its attempt to control corruption. It argues that corruption, and the subsequent inquiries into this corruption, can be seen to have a cyclic nature and the failure of such inquiries has a long and international history. It contends that the nature of the public inquiry itself can be seen to contribute to the continuation of the cycle of corruption. Clearly, putting an end to corruption requires more than the investigation, public exposure and punishment of a few corrupt police, followed by a generalised tightening of the chain of command. Instead, this thesis demonstrates that the problem is primarily an organisational one and it is important to look at management reforms. This thesis contends that the cycle of corruption involves the nature of police work; the catalyst that triggers the inquiry; the inquiry itself and the issue of the report; and the police and community responses. An examination of all these factors is crucial to understanding the cycle’s dynamics. The final report of the Wood Royal Commission was in 1996 and this thesis specifically analyses the cycle of corruption in relation to the response of the police executive to this inquiry. It shows how the police response focused on the tactical crisis response central to operational policing — in this case appeasing official censure and community fears. As little more than a public relations exercise, senior management strategically addressed the specific recommendations of the report rather than creatively considering the implications exposed during the inquiry. The idea that corruption is a symptom of an ineffective system and not simply a slackening of effective control by senior management was never considered. In the aftermath of the Wood Royal Commission there was much discussion about ‘police culture’ being ‘a culture of corruption’. The forgotten casualties of the inquiry has been individual police officers, many of whom see policing as a vocation. This thesis has allowed many voices to be heard and used both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse a wide range of information and data, which included personal interviews with serving police officers and members of external organisations, as well as printed material from Royal Commission Reports, Hansard and other government documents, internal Police Service documents and media reports.It has used Bourdieu’s theoretical approach which allows an analysis of the complex relationships involved between police officers as individuals who operate within the wider networks of a specific organisation and the way the personal is important as an explanatory tool of what happens within a policing culture and how this culture is perceived differently from within and without. Bourdieu’s theory also facilitates analysis of the interactions of this network with the wider community, putting in context the responses of both the police service and the community. The connection with the personal is important as an explanatory tool of what happens within a policing culture and how this culture is perceived differently from within and without. Bourdieu constructs an understanding of the ‘nature of the game’ of policing and the shaping of the individual within police culture, giving insight into the source of moral dilemmas, personal beliefs and personal behaviour. As the current management system of command and control is at the heart of this response, this thesis has also analysed the assumptions inherent in this management philosophy, considering both necessary operational strengths as well as organisational weaknesses. A central theme of the thesis is that open dialogue will reduce the incidence of corruption and risk within policing institutions. This thesis argues that there must be an integrative approach to reform — accountable, active leadership combined with critically constructed practical approaches that tackle the complexity of the dynamics embedded in the ‘nature of the game’ of policing itself.

Abstract:
UK policy-makers, politicians and practitioners over the past few years have based the narrative of competitiveness around the idea of 'rebalancing the economy'. This entails viewing competitiveness as a rational process (through the Porterian lens) and identifies strategies from a top-down perspective. However, there is generally a lack of understanding of how competitiveness is practiced from the bottom-up. Therefore, this study adopts a practice-based perspective to investigate competitiveness from a practitioner's perspective. In this thesis, Bourdieu's habitus and reflexivity is used along with Maclean, Harvey and Chia's notion of life history storytelling through the lens of sensemaking and legitimacy. The thesis employs a constructivist perspective to collect and analyse qualitative evidence from 41 practitioners during the two phases of data collection. The data was analysed using thematic analysis, codes generated and inferences made. In the pilot-study (Delphi-study and semi-structured interviews), senior strategists (20) practicing in local enterprise partnerships (LEP's), universities, regional development agencies, manufacturing associations and various manufacturing firms confirmed the initial assumption that policy is prescriptive and rationalistic. The second phase consisted of semi-structured interviews (21) with senior, middle and lower level practitioners belonging to various types of manufacturing firms and allied services. The main contributions of the thesis are that (1) reflexive practitioner's past experiences shaped existing practices and perceptions of competitiveness and (2) three distinct thresholds of competitiveness inform the position of the practitioner and their desire to be competitive. This has implications for policy and practice.

The main purpose of this C-essay is to answer the question: What have been the consequences and effects of the merit point system on language studies and the parties concerned (teachers, students and principals) during the school year of 2010/11? The merit point system is the result of a political decision and was implicated for the first time in the Swedish upper secondary school during the school year 2010/2011. Being a completely new phenomenon it is of great interest and importance to study its effects. The study in this essay also aims to verify, falsify or nullify two hypotheses very often referred to in the political discussions regarding the merit point system: The merit point system will replace affection and interest as main reasons for language studies in upper secondary school and cause a rectification amongst the students choices of additional courses. The merit point system will have a segregating effect upon society and make it harder for people to rise in society through education in the future. A verification of these hypotheses would imply the appearance of an increased rectification amongst students as well as an orientation towards an in the future more segregated society. The empiric material has been collected and examined with qualitative as well as quantitative methods (questionnaires and interviews) and belongs epistemologically to the phenomenological and hermeneutical traditions.

My purpose with this qualitative study was to use Bourdieu's concept of Habitus with the associated capital species as an analytical tool, to try to shed light on the value-charged context of human behavior patterns. This in order to, through it, be able to demonstrate a possible explanation for why unusual finds are found in archaeological excavations. The object of my analysis here, in this study, is an engraved Roman stone age engraving stone found at the excavations on the medieval Saxon Castle in the Kristinehamn archipelago. My method has been theoretical, consisting mainly of literature studies and a small number of oral sources. I have delimited myself only to highlight one single artifact; the engraved stone and only a single excavation site; Saxholmen for my study. Only a few examples from other places have been used and then for the purpose of better clarifying my chosen study material. This study is based on three issues that concern the location of the stone, outside its proper context, whether a Habitus perspective can be a possible analytical tool for interpreting unusual findings, and whether Saxholm's Habitus-related functions could reflect a possible explanation for the location of the stone. My conclusions are thus that the stone has probably traveled far and probably changed owners more than once. In view of the residents' prestige-oriented lifestyle and a possible link to Gotland, it may have been the result of trade contacts or looting. I have also come to the conclusion that the Habitus concept is absolutely useful as an analytical tool in this type of study, since it highlights abstract values in human life. In my opinion, the Saxholmen seen from a Habitus- related perspective holds all of the capital species / values that are included in the essay and can therefore demonstrate a number of possible interpretations as to why the stone is included in the finds material from the site. The research aimed at analyzing the conditioning factors that motivate technical high school students to seek this kind of education and at understanding the meaning of this schooling to them as well as their expectations and future aspirations as regard to education and labor. The study, based on Pierre Bourdieu and collaborators sociological perspective, was developed based on the educational and professional trajectories analysis of students at a technical high school in São Paulo state. The analysis was preceded by a bibliographical study about the historical context of the professional education in Brazil, which had as a backdrop its main target public throughout the years, as well as the considerations concerning professionalization in the context of productive restructuring. The propensity to the technical education was analyzed based on the students social status and their internalized dispositions, designated habitus. It was observed that the inclination to the technical education is supported on a disposition that emphasizes the work instead of long studies. That trend establishes a contradiction lived by the families between the ideal the school longevity and the necessary the work. That internalized and durable disposition tends to determine the studies extension which, according to them, must be associated to the professional insertion. However, the education is assimilated as primordial for social mobility and the students internalize the idea that is necessary to continue studying. In this direction, the technical education, currently organized as a quickly course, is considered as a possibility for obtaining the studies extension, since other ways for that are uncertain or financially unfeasible. In most cases analyzed, the technical education has an instrumental meaning, as a way to aid in the self-subsistence for a future maintenance in the higher education, as a way to help to get better professions. On both cases, this education is assimilated as a form to enhance competition and not necessarily the obtention of work in the technical formation area.
A pesquisa visou analisar os condicionantes que motivaram alunos do ensino técnico de nível médio a buscar uma formação nesta modalidade de ensino, compreender o significado desta escolaridade para eles, bem como as expectativas e aspirações futuras no tocante à educação e ao trabalho. O estudo foi desenvolvido a partir da análise de trajetórias escolares e profissionais de estudantes de uma escola técnica do Estado de São Paulo e foi pautado na perspectiva sociológica de Pierre Bourdieu e colaboradores. As análises foram precedidas por um estudo bibliográfico sobre o histórico do ensino profissional no Brasil, tendo como pano de fundo a clientela deste ensino ao longo dos anos, assim como por considerações acerca da profissionalização no atual contexto de reestruturação produtiva. As orientações para o ensino técnico foram analisadas tendo por base a posição social dos estudantes e as disposições interiorizadas, denominadas habitus. Verificou-se que o direcionamento ao ensino técnico tem por base uma disposição que privilegia o trabalho em detrimento de longos estudos e integra uma contradição vivida pelas famílias entre o ideal a longevidade escolar e o necessário o trabalho. Esta disposição interiorizada e durável tende a condicionar que o prolongamento dos estudos esteja atrelado à inserção profissional. Não obstante, a educação é assimilada como primordial para a ascensão social e os alunos interiorizam a idéia de que é preciso continuar estudando. Nesse sentido, o ensino técnico, organizado na atualidade como um curso aligeirado, é assimilado como possibilidade de prolongar a escolaridade, já que outros meios para tanto são incertos ou financeiramente inviáveis. Na maioria dos casos analisados, o ensino técnico possui um significado instrumental, seja como forma de auxiliar na auto-subsistência para uma futura manutenção no ensino superior, seja para ajudar a obter melhores trabalhos. Em ambos os casos, este ensino é visto como uma maneira de auxiliar na concorrência e não necessariamente na obtenção de um trabalho na área de formação técnica.
