Viktorsson, Blom Linnéa. ""Sex? I'd rather have a cup of tea" : En maskulinitetsstudie av popfenomenet Boy George." Thesis, Linköpings universitet, Tema Genus, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-66263.

Full text
Abstract:

Granhall, Lahiki Malena. "Boy or Girl? – No, it´s a Child! : Parents´ Motives to Sex Determine their Unborn Children." Thesis, Umeå universitet, Umeå centrum för genusstudier (UCGS), 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-162036.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this magister thesis is to examine the motives behind parents´ choice to sex determine their children, or not, at routine ultrasound examination (RUL). The analysed empirical data consists of 261 responding questionnaires written by expecting parents. My conclusions are that the motives behind parents’ choice can reflect their view of sex as binary or analog. Many parents sex determine their unborn children in order for preparing their rooms, clothes and toys to correlate with the heterosexual matrix. Girls get pink and boys blue, but the colours are of course only the visible part of how children are sexed as social construction. Some parents are experiencing a peer pressure and quite a few parents are influenced by the midwife performing the RUL to chose to sex determine their child. The most common motive to abstain from sex determining the child at RUL is after all to make gender the big happening at birth. Parents prepare to raise – not a child – but a boy or girl.

Abstract:

Through the collection and analysis of negotiations surrounding the gay magazine Destroyer, the intention of this paper is to identify norms of sexuality within a contemporary sex-radical discourse. These negotiations are collected from interviews with individuals whom, at the time of the inter-view, consider themselves or their politics sex-radical. In order to allow for a more general under-standing of the context in which these negotiations have come about, material about Swedish law is also included in this text, together with the interview material, and serves as a base for analysis through the application of Gayle Rubin’s theory on the hierarchical value system of sexuality.

Following, are the main themes throughout the paper: The meaning of the context; Sexualized children; The possibility to (not) participate: differences of power; The decision whether or not to sell the publication and The position of the pedophile and crossgenerational love/sexuality within the LGBTQ community.

Key words: sex radicalism, pornography, boy-love, kiddy porn, pedophilia, Destroyer, Gayle Rubin.

Klein, Kacey. "The Reality of Child Sexual Abuse: A Critique of the Arguments Used by Adult-Child Sex Advoates." Scholarship @ Claremont, 2010. http://scholarship.claremont.edu/cmc_theses/53.

Full text
Abstract:
In the United States, there are advocacy groups that support sexual relationships between adults and children. These groups use justifications that make pedophile behaviors seem normal and appropriate. This thesis describes the physical, emotional, and psychological harms that result from child sexual abuse. The reader will understand how prominent child sexual abuse is and how it takes a lot of effort for abusers to take advantage of children. There are many psychological resources available to children and their families, but it does not make sexual abuse okay for society to ignore. The justifications used by pedophile advocates are irrational and should be fought against by society.

Abstract:
In this paper I will describe and analyze the process of creating my thesis film, Call Me Cappy. I will start with stating the theme and discuss each aspect of this process in relation to the theme that originated this project. I will detail my biggest challenges and struggles. I will also try to show how the knowledge I absorbed through attending the graduate film program, and the literature I have read, has served my journey as a filmmaker. In the end, I will attempt to evaluate whether my theme found its full expression through this film. The final analysis will determine how well I was able to incorporate all the aspects of storytelling into creating a coherent piece of work.

Kennedy, Alexander. ""See that boy" : looking at boys and men through art and theory : queer theory and practice deployed as a deconstructive and strategic method for art historical enquiry." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2003. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/5386/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis continually encircles desirable objects and theories of desire in art history and queer theory, in order to understand and locate this procedure within art historical interpretation. This thesis works in the theoretical space between queer theory and the discipline of art history, using the work of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg tactically, to demonstrate that iconology falters here, as does any easy reliance on categories of sex, gender and sexuality to interpret their work. From the early 1990’s many art historians working in gay and lesbian studies attempted to employ deconstructive vocabularies in order to continue iconological investigations into the work of ‘late modernist’ art – including artists such as Johns and Rauschenberg – for very clear and laudable political reasons. I argue that this project mainly relied on essentialist and reductive assumptions concerning the sexed and gendered subject in order to explore the suppression of abnormal sexualities in relation to an artist’s work. I question that project here in the art historical texts I cite, and temper that analysis with deconstructive/queer theories of subjectivity. In this text I ask many questions that are central to my role as a queer art historian, questions that, in the ‘post modern moment’ of realisation revel in what Butler calls the “valorisation of unrealisability”. I do not look for a foundational justification for my project, which would be counter to my thesis, which argues that the a posteriori creates the a priori of ontology. I only hope to difference arguments that create reductive, totalising (as well as heterosexist and misogynistic) views of the art objects and the projects of art history, arguments that make the methodologies of art history into an inert mathematics.

Petrovic, Céline. "Portraits d'élèves du primaire par leurs enseignants-es : l'impact du genre." Thesis, Paris 10, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA100182.

Abstract:
This PhD thesis deals with gender and education, more specifically investigating schools and schoolteachers. This research examines primary schoolteachers’ representations of their female and male pupils. Data have been drawn from the teachers’ portraits of their pupils. With reference to two theoretical frameworks, cognitive social representation theory and psychoanalysis, two methodologies have been used to collect and analyze data. On the one hand, the quantitative methodology shows that teachers produce significantly more discourse on their male pupils in zones d’education prioritaire (areas targeted for special help in education), and that when describing girls and boys, they discuss different themes in different ways according to the context. On the other, a clinical analysis of twenty-four student portraits shows that portraits of girls and boys do not focus on the same elements in terms of relationship to knowledge, and that the former more often meet their teachers’ desires than the latter. In effect, female and male pupils do not enjoy the same environment and do not elicit similar expectations from their teachers

Habel, Chad Sean, and chad habel@gmail com. "Ancestral Narratives in History and Fiction: Transforming Identities." Flinders University. Humanities, 2006. http://catalogue.flinders.edu.au./local/adt/public/adt-SFU20071108.133216.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is an exploration of ancestral narratives in the fiction of Thomas Keneally and Christopher Koch. Initially, ancestry in literature creates an historical relationship which articulates the link between the past and the present. In this sense ancestry functions as a type of cultural memory where various issues of inheritance can be negotiated. However, the real value of ancestral narratives lies in their power to aid in the construction of both personal and communal identities. They have the potential to transform these identities, to transgress “natural” boundaries and to reshape conventional identities in the light of historical experience. For Keneally, ancestral narratives depict national forbears who “narrate the nation” into being. His earlier fictions present ancestors of the nation within a mythic and symbolic framework to outline Australian national identity. This identity is static, oppositional, and characterized by the delineation of boundaries which set nations apart from one another. However, Keneally’s more recent work transforms this conventional construction of national identity. It depicts an Irish-Australian diasporic identity which is hyphenated and transgressive: it transcends the conventional notion of nations as separate entities pitted against one another. In this way Keneally’s ancestral narratives enact the potential for transforming identity through ancestral narrative. On the other hand, Koch’s work is primarily concerned with the intergenerational trauma causes by losing or forgetting one’s ancestral narrative. His novels are concerned with male gender identity and the fragmentation which characterizes a self-destructive idea of maleness. While Keneally’s characters recover their lost ancestries in an effort to reshape their idea of what it is to be Australian, Koch’s main protagonist lives in ignorance of his ancestor’s life. He is thus unable to take the opportunity to transform his masculinity due to the pervasive cultural amnesia surrounding his family history and its role in Tasmania’s past. While Keneally and Koch depict different outcomes in their fictional ancestral narratives they are both deeply concerned with the potential to transform national and gender identities through ancestry.

Dietary, is the first priority of living. From the sociologist Abraham Harold Maslow's theory "hierarchy of needs", dietary is the basic need for living. From Chinese proverb "food ranks first", it also shows how important of dietary for living. This research is based on writer's colleague major in food and beverage, combining with cuisine creation and visual communication. The idea is from comic "Chinese Chef" and adding HAKKA cuisine element, to create cuisines base on 5 senses awareness. It is an idea for making cuisines in comic become possible, also combining traditional HAKKA cuisine element to present creative cuisines. This research, is discussing the relation to appearance, fragrance, taste of food and 5 senses by integrating cooking elements. Combining cooking process with HAKKA cuisine characteristic, history background, material and style to discuss combination of cuisine and 5 sense by presentation of creative cuisines.
