Abstract:
The magnetism of the oceanThis article compares the use of oceanic symbolism in the poetry of Karin Boye, Ingrid Jonker and Sylvia Plath. Freud’s “oceanic feeling” is described and contrasted with Jung’s theory of the “great mother”. According to Jung, the “great mother” is the unconscious which is represented by water. All these elements are discussed in the poems and compared to each other in order to gain a better understanding of the poetry. Although “death” (drowning) in the ocean appears to point to new life, it ends in unification with the archetypal mother. This liberates the poets symbolically, but not physically.

Abstract:
The relevance of the present article is related to the urgent problem in Humanities (cultural studies, philology and sociology): characterization of anti-utopia that emerged in the ХХ and the XXI centuries, and its various national modifications. The purpose of the article is to define typical features of the anti-utopia in the Scandinavian novel Kallocain written by a Swedish writer Karin Boye and draw some parallels with Yevgeny Zamyatin’s novel We. The article proves the following thesis: the majority of the specific characteristics of anti-utopia are based on the category of the chronotope. The basic methods of the research were descriptive analytical method, comparative typological method, summarization, cultural-historical method, motive analysis, and content analysis of the text. The model of state-building is implemented in the artistic space of both novels. This model is presented as an ideal one; however, a closer look shows that it is the model of the totalitarian system of government: the states are isolated from the surrounding world which is presented in the novels as alien and hostile. Order, stability, and equality prevailing in the World Empire (Boye) and the United State (Zamyatin) are pushed to their grotesque limits and lead to the universal equalization of the citizens, and the governmental control of all the aspects of human life, including the intimate sphere.

Андрей Джолинардович Щеглов - ведущий научный сотрудник Института всемирной истории РАН, историк-скандинавист, известный научными работами и переводами со шведского языка. Автор более сотни научных публикаций, иностранный член Шведского королевского общества по изданию рукописей, относящихся к скандинавской истории, переводчик классической шведской и финляндской поэзии (Карин Бойе, Гуннара Экелёфа, Юхана Людвига Рунберга). В 2002 г. им был опубликован в серии «Памятники исторической мысли» комментированный перевод рифмованной «Хроники Энгельбректа»1. В 2007 г. он явился одним из авторов коллективной монографии «Швеция и шведы в средневековых источниках»2, содержащей переводы и исследования памятников шведского средневековья и XVI в. В 2008 г. вышла в свет монография А. Д. Щеглова «Вестеросский риксдаг 1527 года и начало Реформации в Швеции»3. В 2012 г. был опубликован подготовленный А. Д. Щегловым комментированный перевод «Шведской хроники», написанной в XVI в. реформатором и историком Олаусом Петри4, а в 2016 г. вышли в свет переведённые и откомментированные «Шведские средневековые законы»5. Andrey Jolinardovich Scheglov is a leading researcher at the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Scandinavian historian known for his scholarly work and translations from Swedish. He is the author of more than a hundred scientific publications, a foreign member of the Swedish Royal Society for the publication of manuscripts relating to Scandinavian history, translator of classical Swedish and Finnish poetry (Karin Boye, Gunnar Ekelöf, Johan Ludvig Runberg). In 2002 he published a commentary translation of Engelbreckt's 1 Rhyming Chronicle in the 'Monuments of Historical Thought' series. In 2007 he became one of the authors of the collective monograph "Sweden and the Swedes in medieval sources, "2 containing translations and research monuments of the Swedish Middle Ages and the XVI century. In 2008, he published a monograph by AD Scheglov "Riksdag of Västerås in 1527 and the beginning of the Reformation in Sweden "3 . In 2012 A. D. Shcheglov published a commentary translation of the Swedish Chronicle written in the 16th century by the reformer and historian Olaus Petri4, and in 2016 the translated and commented Swedish Medieval Laws5 was published. Abstract:
Background: Osteoporosis is a major public health issue in several countries worldwide because it increases healthcare costs, and is a risk for mortality. There have been several studies that have examined BMD among the various Thai people and the regions that they inhabit. Objective: This study examined the distal forearm Bone Mineral Density (BMD) in men and women over 40 years of age among members of various Karen hill-tribes located in the Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Methods: Two hundred and sixty-two subjects (180 women, 82 men), ranging from 40 to 83 years old were recruited in this study. The non-dominant distal forearm bone mineral density was assessed by using peripheral dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (pDEXA). Results: The results showed that the BMD were 0.530 ± 0.065, 0.508 ± 0.087, 0.461 ± 0.098, and 0.438 ± 0.124 g/cm2 for men age 40-49 years, age 50-59 years, age 60-69 years, and ages 70-83 years, respectively. For women, the BMD were 0.392 ± 0.051, 0.337 ± 0.063, 0.232 ± 0.065, and 0.212 ± 0.069 g/cm2 among women age 40-49 years, age 50-59 years, age 60-69 years, and ages 70-83 years, respectively. BMD had decreased in post-menopause as a function of duration time after menopause. Conclusion: We determined the prevalence of osteoporosis of men and women of Karen hill-tribes in the Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. These findings provided important information regarding bone health in Karen hill-tribes for any healthcare planning done in the immediate future.

Repair of bone and joint tissue to restore normal function is a unique endeavor that requires recreating tissue structure and the integrated healing of both organic and inorganic tissue components. Session 5 (Structural approaches to bone and joint repair) at the 36th annual Society of Toxicologic Pathology Annual Symposium included 2 talks covering methods, models, and regulatory considerations used to evaluate novel approaches for repairing bones and joints. Lyn Wancket provided a general overview of medical devices, with an emphasis on preclinical and clinical evaluations of bone and joint devices. Karen Manhart outlined regulatory review of medical devices by the Food and Drug Administration. This summary includes highlights from both talks.

Uppsatsen är en redogörelse för en dekonstruktivistisk läsning av Karin Boyes första prosaverk Astarte (1931), utifrån James L. Calderwoods teori om creative uncreation i det poetiska skapandet. Med denna blick på texten så som varande en akt av nedmontering och med utgångspunkt i Judith Butlers teori om könets performativitet, framträder i läsningen av Boyes roman en strävan efter att plocka isär samhälleliga (van)föreställningar och schabloner gällande konsten, poesin, modet osv. i allmänhet och kvinnan, i synnerhet. Analysen är strukturerad efter Calderwoods idé om att det poetiska skapandet kan vara en rörelse från ingenting mot ett någonting eller en rörelse från någonting mot ett ingenting, och är således ordnad i två delar: en som behandlar creation, skapandet av föreställningar, och en rörande creative uncreation, nedmonterandet av dessa. I slutdiskussionen aktualiseras två essäer av Boye, ”Dagdrömmeriet som livsåskådning” och ”Språket bortom logiken”. Boyes tankar kring konst och litteratur som stelnad i konvention och hennes längtan efter ett nytt språk som kan söka sig bortom vedertagna symboler och tecken, sätts här i samband med resultaten för den dekonstruktivistiska läsningen av romanen. Uppsatsen innehåller även en kort redogörelse för Astartes mottagande vid dess utgivning och synen på romanen i tidigare forskning.

I den här uppsatsen undersöks sju texter om den svenska författarinnan Karin Boye (1900–1941), publicerade mellan åren 1989 och 2013. Utifrån feministisk litteratur- och bio­grafi­forsk­ning av Gunilla Domellöf och Lisbeth Larsson diskuteras att och hur perso­nen Boye och biografiska läsningar av hennes skönlitterära produk­tion fort­farande int­resserar. Bland resultaten finns slutsatsen att Boyes texter fortfarande ofta läses som själv­bio­grafiska, men att bilden av henne omarbetats; Boye betraktas inte längre som sjuk, till skillnad från 1950-talets sexualisering och patologisering av kvinnliga författare. Istäl­let benämns hon lesbisk och den direkta kopplingen mellan hennes sexualitet och hennes självmord är borta. Avsikten i hennes själv­mord ifrågasätts dessutom, vilket ytterligare för­ändrar bilden av Boye. En övergripande slutsats är att samma teman som var aktuella under mitten av 1900-talet, såsom sexualitet, psyke och självmord, återkommer i omvärderad form när Boye blir läst och biograferad idag. Den bio­grafiska traditionen är fortfarande aktuell, trots att den uppmärksammats och motarbetats av bland andra Domellöf.

This essay provides a queer theoretical, non-biographic reading of Karin Boye's novel Crisis from 1934. The analysis aims to focus on how Christian faith, constituting a major part of the book, can be connected to and be read as a symbol of heteronormativity. Furthermore the analysis describes how the queer aspect in the novel reveals heteronormative and intersectional structures. The investigation is set against previous research on Boye’s literary works, and other queer theoretical texts to show how the protagonist Malin Forst’s queer desire and identity develops as opposed to authoritative voices present in her life.

I den här uppstatsen undersöker jag temat manipulation. Jag tittar på vad det har för inverkan på berättelsers utformning samt om det finns andra teman som ofta kombineras med manipulationstemat. Min utgångspunkt är Karin Boyes Kallocain och därifrån kommer jag dra paralleller till William Shakespeares Othello och Aldous Huxleys Brave New World. Genom att vända mig till just de här två berättelserna får jag en inblick i såväl genretillhörighet som temats utveckling över tid. Uppsatsens teoretiska utgångspunkt är C.G. Jungs teori om det kollektiva omedvetna med mänskliga grundläggande urbilder som återkommer i arketyper. Resultatet är ett grundläggande händelseförlopp och en insikt om den djupare mänskliga samhörighet som berättelsernas hjältar först inte vågar tro existerar.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats undersöker modernitetens framväxt i staden i Karin Boyes debutroman Astarte utifrån Yvonne Hirdmans teorier om genussystemet och det stereotypa genuskontraktet. Studien undersöker de manliga och kvinnliga huvudkaraktärernas olika drömmar om staden och verklighet i staden men också modernitetens konsekvenser för de karaktärer som befinner sig utanför stadsrummet. Analysen visar att kapitalismens varufiering i stadsrummet konstituerar och vidmakthåller olika stereotypa föreställningar av vad en kvinna respektive man är. Detta sker genom de återkommande bilder som förmedlas i skyltfönstren, på biograferna, i danssalongerna och i veckotidningarna som visar olika stereotyper av vad en man respektive kvinna är och bör vara. I analysen av stadens bilder applicerar jag Walter Benjamins tankar kring den dialektiska bilden och utifrån detta drar jag slutsatsen att karaktärerna försätts i en dvala som alienerar dem från verkligheten och från sin egen andliga kärna. Uppsatsen undersöker också konsekvenserna av moderniteten bortom stadens rum. Här visar analysen att Boye strategiskt väljer att skildra utsattheten hos det kvinnliga könet framför det manliga. Detta för att påvisa vilket kön det är som styr den kapitalistiska marknaden, men också för att skildra de grupper som blir allra mest utsatta i modernitetens spår, nämligen de äldre kvinnorna på landsbygden och de fattiga kvinnor och flickor som tillverkar de kläder som massproduceras till de nya städerna.

Abstract:
I denna uppsats använder jag den interpersonella metafunktionen inom systemisk-funktionell grammatik för att undersöka sex av Karin Boyes dikter, detta med syfte att se huruvida en sådan här analys kan säga något av intresse om diktjaget. Analysen genomfördes enligt Holmberg och Karlssons modell i Grammatik med betydelse, där subjekt och finit tagits ut varpå språkhandlingar markerats och modalitet kommenterats. Dikterna är hämtade ur Boyes Samlade dikter. Av min analys framgår att jaget behandlar sig självt som visare och mer klarsynt än en vanlig människa, men samtidigt är slav under ett mänskligt känsloliv. Jaget framställer sig självt som en auktoritet på lidande och en konstnär med kontroll över sin penna. Min slutsats blir därför att den systemisk-funktionella modellen kan vara till nytta vid lyrikstudier.

Abstract:
This essay investigates how silence is used as a way to speak about, and give presence to what cannot be named; the female homosexuality and the lesbian. The analysis consists of three texts that are reoccurring in Swedish literature research about Karin Boye, Swedish modernist, her person and writings. By using close reading as a method, I investigate how the three texts corresponds with words connected to female homosexuality, focusing on lesbianism. By placing the lesbian as the first, and not the Other, I investigate how lesbianism is present in the three texts, and how they read and use silence as a frame for talking about what cannot be named. I use queer theory as a springboard for claiming this lesbian presence. My aim with this essay is to show how lesbianism can be read even without the explicit use of certain words, and by doing so, showing how it is not just a well of loneliness.

Abstract Two (2) steam flood vertical injection wells are under operation for the last 15 months in a two- pattern pilot. Previous steam injection experience in this reservoir did not indicate serious issues due to the short injection periods for cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) but several well integrity issues have been faced during the steam flood period. Key issues include high wellhead growth, steam leak to the annulus A, annulus between 7” production casing and 4-1/2” injection tubing, and groundwater vapor behind 9.625” surface casing. Negative impacts from these issues on the continuity and effectiveness of the steam flood are recognized and need to be resolved comprehensively. All wells in the steam flood pilot were drilled and completed based on designs and procedures according to thermal well compliance including well equipment, and cementing specification. Production casing was equipped with thermal expansion collars to support reduction in wellhead growth. Completion strategy uses seal bore packer with bore extensions to accommodate tubing movement and Vacuum-Insulated-Tubing to provide maximum thermal insulation. However, the presence of a total- loss zone near the surface (starting from 50 m depth) affects the cement isolation between surface casing and 12.25” open hole. Daily monitoring is performed on each well where key injection parameters and well responses are recorded. Maximum wellhead growth reached 61 cm within the first week and steam leak from the injection string to annulus A started after 6 months of steam injection. Soon after that, groundwater vapor starts to arise from the gap between 9.625” casing and 12.25” open hole. These series of failures occurred in both injection wells within 3 months apart from each other. It is believed that the steam leak to annulus A resulted in thermal transmission to groundwater vapor. Hoist entries to both injectors indicated that Injector-1 has tubing seal assembly stuck inside seal bore and resulted in parted tubing collar while Injector-2 has tubing seal assembly damage. Both wells have thick oil covering the retrieved seal bore packer. Remedial actions were performed, including a complete change-out of the seal bore packer assembly and top-job cement fill up to surface using fast-set cement to isolate the gap between 9.625” casing and 12.25” open hole to reduce wellhead growth. As a result, the maximum wellhead growth became only 19 cm and 4 cm in Injector-1 and Injector-2, respectively. These remedial actions also led to restoring well and thermal integrity. Retrieved seal bore packer was sent back to manufacturer for appropriate failure analysis and providing useful feedback reports on the above issues. Monitoring and observation data along with failure analysis should provide vital information and possible improvement in completion strategy for steam injection wells that are planned for continuous steam flood projects in similar reservoirs.
