Dervis, Gulgun. "Archaeometrical Investigation On Some Medieval Period Glass Bracelets." Master's thesis, METU, 2006. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/2/12607755/index.pdf.

Abstract:
Glass has been used to make a variety of artifacts including bottles, drinking cups, vessels, window glasses, beads and bracelets. Although occasional glass bracelets were dated back to 2000 BC, large scale manufacture of glass bracelets was encountered in Central Europe in the last centuries of 1000BC. During the excavations of Mezraa Hö

k (Birecik-Sanliurfa) in 2000-20002, a number of glass bracelets were unearthed that belongs to 13th century AD. On going excavations of Mersin Yumuktepe also give quite a lot of 11th-12th centuries Byzantine glass bracelets. In this study a group of those bracelets was started to be examined. After technical drawings, color identification had been carried out by using Munsell color chart. Thin sections of some samples of Mezraa Hö

k have been prepared and then observed by an optical microscope in Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA). Observation of thin sections showed the amorphous structure of glass with some impurities and gas bubbles. On some samples deteriorated surface layers were present. XRD traces of those layers showed the typical amorphous background of glass in which no crystalline phase is present. Elemental analysis of the samples has been done using ICP-OES method in METU Central Laboratory. In the analysis major (except SiO2), minor and some trace elements were determined. ICP-OES data showed that glass bracelet samples studied are of soda-lime-silica glass. But percentage of Na2O is less than expected from typical composition of soda-lime-silica glass
being 10.5 wt % as average. This might be due to removal of Na ions from the glass network because of leaching under burial conditions. Concentration of Al2O3 in the samples of Mezraa Hö

k is almost same. This may be due to the using one type of quartz sand in bracelet production. Color producing elements seem to be Fe, Mn and Cu.

Tours, 2000. http://www.theses.fr/2000TOUR3305.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A close examination of spatial variability in the specified objects in an area between the Rhine/Danube and the Loire, stretching as far as Britannia in the west and Pannonia in the East. Initially a theoretical framework is set out in the context of the archaeological background. Each object type is then analysed in terms of form and decorative style and the occurrence of specific features is shown on distribution maps. Possible production areas can be suggested for different decorative styles. The distribution maps and studies of the range of variability in each category also provide information concerning the scale of manufacture and mechanisms of dispersal; in turn these relate to the level of demand and the changing function of the object. Patterns occurring are then compared to one another and interpreted in terms of their gender and status associations and their overall economic, social, political and cultural significance for the late Roman Western Empire. Links are established between different regions and it is possible to trace the movements of those travelling with the army. Many sites can be shown to have a significant foreign element, with clusters of associated objects which can be sourced to another area. Concentrations of finds along the frontier and in linear distributions in other areas give an indication of contemporary activity at adjacent sites, and shifts in the spatial patterning of objects during the fourth to fifth century transition period provides a fresh insight into the late Roman west and beyond.

Abstract:
Approximately 5% of patients are diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer each year and 20 to 30% of localized breast cancers become secondarily metastatic. Benefits of physical activity during treatment in patients with localized breast cancer have been widely demonstrated, but the literature is limited in metastatic breast cancer. This thesis work assessed the potential effects of physical activity in patients with metastatic breast cancer through three studies. The StoRM observational study showed an association between the level of physical activity collected by questionnaire with an improvement of survival for HER2 patients. The ABLE intervention study highlighted the feasibility of a physical activity intervention with an activity tracker in this population with an excellent adherence rate (96%), patients' interest and willingness to participate in physical activity programs and functional improvements. The intervention contributed to maintaining quality of life, fatigue and physical activity levels despite treatment and disease progression. Potential biomarkers predictive of tumor progression have been identified. The MUST study showed that the antioxidant SOD and quadriceps isometric extension force appear to prevent sarcopenia and an association between sarcopenia status and toxicity risk was confirmed. This thesis work represents a first step in analyzing the effects of physical activity on patients with metastatic breast cancer. Physical activity appears to be beneficial in this population, but these results need to be confirmed in a larger scale study. These preliminary results highlight the importance of providing appropriate physical activity interventions for patients with metastatic breast cancer at the time of diagnosis in order to maintain an active lifestyle as long as possible

Mengesha, T. (Tewodros). "ICT-based bracelet for early detection of depression." Master's thesis, University of Oulu, 2016. http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:oulu-201605221847.

Full text
Abstract:
Information communication technology (ICT) has opened a door for different sectors to benefit from ICT by using its potential tools. Health industry is one sector benefiting from ICT solutions for improving service quality and productivity. By using ICT as a tool, this study raised one of the major social and health concern, depression also known as depressive disorder. The aim of this study was to find the potential ICT based solution for an early detection and monitoring of depression. Individuals go through different phases of life for instance psychological trauma, sadness, sorrow, grief, unemployment and so on. The different life aspects lead individuals to depression and majority of us are not all fully aware of it. Time to time everyone feels down and gets the blues in reaction to frustration or a disturbing event which lasts a day or two. On the other hand, can last a lifetime and the illness is much more disabling. Blues has never been a cause for suicide but depression is. The society we live in and the social norms we follow can have an impact to some sort of depression. It is not intentional but unnoticed small acts in our daily life routine can contribute to depression too. To treat depression many practice therapy and/or medical treatments. Depending on the stage of depression some get cured, some still suffer, and some commit suicide. In addition to that, depression is risk factor for coronary artery disease, cardiovascular disease and stroke. It has been proved and witnessed that depressed individuals respond better to treatment at early stage of depression. By applying design science research (DSR) methodology as an approach, the ultimate goal of this study was to find optimal ICT based solution that can be used to monitor depression at early stage. Literature review was used to gather earlier knowledge on wearable technology and depression itself. While conducting the research, senior citizens are on focus as they are more prone to depression than younger generations. Criteria-based self-assessment questionnaire and interview are the methods used by physicians to diagnose depression and its stage. This trend is susceptible to misinterpretation and inaccuracy as the diagnosis often depends on patient’s subjective understanding of depression. Based on earlier knowledge, depression types and symptoms are listed on this study. From the major symptoms of depression; loss of interest in activity, stress and insomnia can be monitored using wrist worn device. As an artefact this thesis sets requirements for wearable device that can monitor heart rate, individual’s activity and sleep patterns. The collected data from the wearable device are physical and physiological data set, which can further be used as an additional input by physicians to determine the existence of depression and its current stage. This data input also helps in reducing the risk of misinterpreting diagnosis.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims at developing a prototype for a fall detection bracelet that can connect to the cellular network. The bracelet consists of a processing unit, three sensors, a LTE USB modem and a powerbank. The prototype is aimed at elderly people since up to one out of three over the age of 65-years-old fall each year. Besides elderly people this system can be used in activities which involves substantial height, e.g. climbing and roofing. Statistics has shown that most serious consequences are not a direct result of falling, but from the lack of fast assistance and treatment. If a fall is detected a distress signal, in the form of an SMS message, is sent to a predefined emergency contact. The contents of the SMS messages includes time and date of fall, ambient temperature, fall location coordinates as well as an URL that redirects to the location as seen in Google Maps. The fall detection algorithm is threshold based and was created by first analyzing falls in different direction. It can successfully identify 74,4% of all falls, but as good as up to 91% of falls that are either backwards, forwards or to the left given that the bracelet is attached to the left wrist. The algorithm can further filter out 100% of studied activities that are not falls. Such activities include walking, running and sitting down. This gives an overall Accuracy of 93% for the system. The Accuracy takes into account how well a fall is detected and how well other activities are filtered out. Furthermore, the bracelet was worn for 40 hours, spread out over 11 days, in order to capture data during this persons every day life. During this time no false distress signal was sent to the emergency contact. Limitations of the system has been found to be the GPS module and the fact that the algorithm is threshold based. The location tracking can be improved by utilizing AGPS, which is the same technique that cellphones use. The threshold based system can't be circumvent in a wearable device solution. From this thesis it is indicated that a wearable bracelet can be a reliable fall detection unit. With more extensive falls and field testing even better results can be achieved and it can eventually be pushed as a real product.

Abstract:
This project has been made in collaboration with the company Tinitell in Stockholm. The purpose of the project is to design mobile phones for children. This report explains all the Design Process, as SVID (Swedish Industrial Design Foundation) describes it. It starts with a research phase and according to its conclusions, a concept generation phase follows. After discussing the possible concepts, the best alternative is selected and developed. The final part of the report is the analysis and conclusions of the whole process.

Thesis, Paris, EHESS, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020EHES0068.

Full text
Abstract:
What do we talk when we interested of the penalty of electronic monitoring ? We are of course talking about a way of punishing that is based on a device (a bracelet and a case) but also professionnals (monitoring and support). We are also talking about a porter who will experience, during his sentence, an unprecedented measure. This resaerch is already in a few lines, at the crossroads between the sociology of experience and that of deviance and punitive theory. Theses and authors wil be mobilized throughout this thesis. I would also call, in more detail, on the sociology of the body in the analysis of the condemned people and on the sociology of work in the analysis of professionals. This thesis aims to treat the subject of electronic monitoring as a total experience. This punishment is fully inscribed in the life of the individual and includes, in its entirety, the carriers as well as the professionals who supervise them. This thesis will be based on an international perspective : it ompares fields carried out in France, Belgium and Switzerland. In these three countries, the uses and representations of the elctronic monitoring are different in terms of audiences as well as social representations. All of the fieldwork enabled us to carry out, between 2015 and 2019, around 130 interviews with professionals, 54 interviews with carriers, as well as observations in the various surveillance centers of the three countries. In terms of advances in this research, yhey mainly take two directions : Concerning the carriers, we have redefined the penalty as a set of constraints (real and supposed, planed and unforeseen). The electronic monitoring sentence is the combination of a body constraint (the stigma) and a space time constraint (partial confinement in the wearer’s home). These two constraints, of body and space time, redefine punishment as being mainly focused on the identity of the wearer. The different pillars of identity (which define the individual as such) are thus redefined and transformed by pain in chapters which successively address the body, space, time use, social relations, clothing practices and sports, etc. For the main workforce in ou sample, there appears to be a real « self punishment », a punishment relating to identity and involving many influences in both feelings and practices. At the same time, there are multiple ways of partially or totally reversing the penalty in order to make it an opportunity. A new collective relationship also appears which makes it possible to face up to grief in a group : this is what we call « the self made group », the group which is formed in the face of adversity and which makes it possible to overcome it. Regarding professionals, we can see that the electronic monitoring is redifining the border that existed between monitoring and support practices. The two main professional branches that oversee the measure are those of prison guards and prison integration and probation counselors. For these two branches, the application of the measure doesn’t take place without a profound rebalancing of their practices, leading, for some, to social monitoring, and for others, forced support. The study of their practices in situations also brings to light a certain number of common or even similar sensitivities : managements which limit or on the contrary perforate according to the cases, the potentialities of electronic surveillance. In this sentence based on new technology, the human remains essential

Abstract:
Safety is a topic that is frequently discussed and spoken of in today’s society. An enhanced security for each individual is something many strive for in various industries. One of these is how to make the public feel more secure when the person in question, for example, is out walking late at night. The goal of this bachelors thesis is thus to describe and explain the product that has been developed to get ordinary people to feel more secure wherever they are. The chosen solution for this issue was hence to develop the product SmartBand Alert which consists of two parts. A bracelet and an application for IOS and Android. This bracelet should, by certain connectivity cooperate with the user’s phone to notify family members and/or others when the person thinks or knows that he or she is in danger. These persons will be notified with information about the person who has activated the alarm to simply and easily take the necessary actions to help the person. The product is designed to be used by anyone regardless of gender, age, and other characteristics individuals may hold.

Whether they are occasional or regular travellers, the pedestrians travelling in an urban environment and using public transportation have to face the complexity of the transportation network of large cities. The travelling aids are numerous and varied. They can be stationary or mobile (for example, applications on smartphones). These aids rely mainly on the visual sensory modality, already heavily requested during urban travel. An interesting alternative would be to use haptics (sense of touch). Indeed, this modality enables to convey travel and navigational information to the owner of a haptic device, by drawing discreetly his attention with tactile messages. Joining an approach of prospective ergonomics, this thesis aims to study the contribution of the haptic modality as a support for the activity of urban pedestrian travel. The applied objective is the design of a haptic device as an innovative travel aid, effective and accepted by the future users. This design project took place within the framework of the ANR project Tictact, led by the CEA-LIST from 2011 till 2014. The use of the haptic modality being put as an initial bias, the objective of the project was to determine the form that the assistance and the technology of the travel aid should take.To tackle this challenge, we conducted three successive studies. The first one, aimed at understanding the elementary cognitive activities mobilized when consulting information necessary to the pedestrian navigation. For that purpose, we analysed the behaviour of a pedestrian undertaking an urban travel (in the subway and on foot). The results allowed us to specify the functions that a future device assisting in the travel should include. Completed by a review of the literature on haptic interfaces and their use for assisting travel, these results led us to determine the eligible functions of the haptic modality. The second study aimed at designing the haptic interaction with the haptic interface, in two stages: first develop the concept of the interface and second design the interaction language. An approach of participative design was implemented, supported by the use of a device prototype and creative methods. This approach succeeded in: i) identifying an informative message suitable for each function of the travel; ii) translating this message (using an analogy) into a metaphor; and iii) transforming every metaphor into vibrotactile patterns delivered by a haptic wristband. The third study aimed at evaluating the haptic device (a wristband coupled with a Smartphone) in a real environment. An analysis of the activity of urban travel was conducted, comparing a group having a prototype of our haptic assistant to a group without such prototype. The results confirm the potentiality of the haptic modality to improve the travel performance in particular to enable a more fluid speed of travel and a decrease in the consultation time of an information medium. Our study opens up perspectives for the use of the haptic modality in diverse mobile interfaces (for example a smartwatch)

In this work are introduced the concepts of involutive affine and projective varieties. Taking into account that every projective variety in P2n-1 has dimension greater than or equal to n-1 and that every hypersurface is involutive, we put our focus on the study of involutive curves in P3, noting that a curve in P3 contained in a plane will be involutive if and only if it is a union of lines passing through the point associated to the suported by plane the correspondence between points and planes determined by the standard symplectic form in P3. We started using the Poisson bracelete invariance of the definition ideal of a varity criterion to determine the involutive lines and conics in P3. Moreover, we exhibit a family of involutive twisted curves. Finally, having in mind that the parameters spaces for involutive lines and conics are 3 and 5 dimensional spaces, respectively. We find how many involutive lines and conic meet 3 and 5 given lines in P3, respectively.

This dissertation deals with systems, prison systems and the control and efficiency of electronic monitoring in the enforcement of sentences. It seeks to prove that despite the progressive system in the execution of the sentence in Brazil to present itself as a set of principles and rules that aim to achieve retributive nature of the punishment of more human way through social reintegration, is primarily reinforcing the control of the bodies submitted to serve their sentences. In turn, the alternative and technological means of indirect monitoring, based on the electronic monitoring has been used as a mechanism or control gear, while despises the parallel implementation of social inclusion policies and therefore humanity of the convict. In order to confirm this hypothesis, the research is based on disciplinary power reference in the kidnapping of institutions, in particular in prison and electronic monitoring system from the way the criminal agencies even react to the condemned as machinery or gear maintenance of relations of power and control over the convicts. Through national and foreign literature, as well as the assessment of administrative and legal documents relating to criminal enforcement, analysis of the reality of electronic monitoring in Brazil and especially in Goiás, objective reinforce that finding, to expose the grounds of implementation of that electronic gear - in Goiás through electronic anklets - although a less painful form of surveillance and punishment than the classic system embodied in prisons, have the urge or the time control objective and actions of inmates who are not oportunizado social inclusion policies even the most traditional and basic shapes, namely, education, work, medical and psychological care.

Abstract:
The objective of the present dissertation is to investigate the legitimacy of adopting electronic monitoring as a stand alone sanction in the Brazilian system of criminal justice. The concept of formal social control in the context of technological risk societies, of which detention and monitoring are intrinsic parts, allows a parallel to be drawn between the penalties adopted throughout the evolution of society and the development of the Criminal justice system. This dissertation analyzes the concept of electronic monitoring of detainees, the origins of this practice, and its types, technological evolution, purposes, models and constitutional aspects in Brazil as well as in other countries. Based on a critical analysis of the normative aspects of electronic monitoring at the federal and state levels, proposals are formulated in order to safeguard individual rights while ensuring the suitability of the system as a type of criminal sanction in keeping with the preventive and retributive purposes of justice. The potential presented by this type of sanction as a means to reduce prison overpopulation in Brazil must not however be overlooked.

The purpose of the study is to explore the impact of customers’ involvement, point of view, and loyalty on smart bracelets. The questionnaire data and the analysis were processed by structural and regression equations. According to the results of questionnaire analysis, it’s shown that 8 of 9 SEM hypotheses and 9 of 10 regression analyzing hypotheses are consistent with the research consumptions. The results showed that customers appreciate the value of health and are willing to try new healthy products such as smart bracelets. A good-quality product attracts customers’ purchasing its product series and gaining their loyalty. Thus, the customers’ related feeling of value will be established. In addition, customers’ consuming behaviors will be influenced by their subjective opinions and brand cognitions. For a creditable, flawless, and durable brand, customers’ satisfactions will be converted to their loyalty. After their loyal consuming behaviors are formed, their loyalty will be established too. Moreover, the customer involvements are affected by outside information, so that their thoughts can be changed by practical point of view. Finally, the research proposes that, if a smart bracelet can show the speakers’ image when making phone call to a smartphone, it can enhance the security of elders and general people. People become aware of the importance of health. In the pace of the progress of the technology, people gradually assist them to exercise with wearable devices. For instance, when wearing the smart bracelet such as fitness trackers, in addition to increasing effectiveness and efficiency in the process of exercise, people get their physical data immediately and prevent themselves from sports injuries. In the research, we will apply the technology acceptance model to smart bracelets Moov Now. The theories are emphasized to discuss the Davis’ (1989) technology acceptance model and the follow-up study that is Ventesh and Bala’s (2008) technology acceptance model three. First, the research structure is based on the TAM (Davis, 1989) and we use the variables from the TAM3 (Ventesh and Bala,2008) to discuss which will influence the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use respectively to prove the hypotheses applied to Moov Now. Second, the collection of questionnaires are used in the study. We will focus on people who realize the importance of health issues and have heard smart bracelets before. It helps us to understand the people's acceptance of the smart bracelets with the data of the questionnaires. We collect 235 questionnaires and use SPSS 23 for statistical analysis, and the hypotheses are tested by the regression analysis in the research. The results of the study are as follows. First, the perceived ease of use positively influences perceived usefulness. Second, both the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are positively related to attitude. Third, both attitude and perceived use-fulness positively correlate with the behavior intention. Fourth, except for job relevance and result demonstrability, image and output quality will positively correlate with the perceived usefulness. Besides, except for the computer anxiety, computer self-efficacy and computer playfulness will positively correlate with perceived ease of use. As a result, from the result of the analysis, we will accurately estimate the customers’ characteristics and know the degree of technology acceptance in order to design and modify the appropriate technological products in the future.

1 Abstract (in English): This dissertation compares depictions of Roman jewellery and brooches on monuments with archaeological finds. These monuments are mainly of funerary character and they come primarily from Noricum, Pannonia, Germania, in lesser amount also from Gallia and some other areas. Jewellery is also related to local variants of provincial clothing. A typology of Roman jewellery is given and subsequently I try to find analogies to these jewellery types among the depictions. The typology mentioned here doesn't represent a complete list of jewellery types and variants. It focuses on the most common variants and variants which are relevant to the depictions of jewellery. By comparison of the archaeological finds to the depictions it is possible to obtain more accurate image of the appearance of clothing in different provincial areas and also of some specific traditions related to jewellery. The majority of depicted jewellery was identified with archeaological finds of jewellery, yet some cases stay unclear.

The RFID is regarded as a low-cost one capable of increasing efficiency, which has an application range covering related areas such as commercial trade, distribution process, human identity recognition, micro-payment and manufacturing. The Taiwan EasyCard uses the RFID identification technology wherein users should first take out the proximity cards from their wallets or other protective containers, then they place the cards on the sensor area, which is not convenient. The purpose of this study is to put forward a bracelet design of the RFID, so as to improve the above inconvenience. This study first uses an observation method to analyze and explore the practical application of the existing RFID products and to learn the users’ operating modes and wrist wearing habits. Users’ needs are gathered through interviews, and functional prototypes are made to take simulation and search undiscovered and uncertain factors thereof aiming at functions. This study takes the MRT Station in Taipei as the main observation site, with a sample size of 1092 persons, including three types: students, office workers and ordinary citizens. The results show that the females prefer colorful identification protection cards or the ones in different styles, prioritizing uniqueness and aesthetics; over 51% of the sample has habits of wearing hand accessories, with the males accustomed to wearing watches, while the females preferring to wear accessories. The interviewed users think that the wrist is regarded as an important area for accessorizing. This study puts forward a design specification of the Radio Frequency Identification: 1. it must have waterproof features, and the wafer and antenna group must be waterproof. The bracelet should be provided with a mechanism making it adjustable (in terms of size). 2. There should be no metal material structure covering the FRID wafer. 3. It should be able to withstand too many hand and bodily motions, and sense when users are conducting the sensor action/operation through the most natural way. 4. it should be easy to wear and can be fixed on the wrist. 5. it takes accessorizing as a design direction. The study puts forwards a conceptual design provided with a magnetic fastening bracelet made according to the above design specifications. The study finally gets the result matching the design spcifications by being tested from six users.

Duo to the technology maturity of wearable device, it has began to merge in our daily life. More and more users used smart band to track information, such as movement, steps, and heart rate. How to choose a right smart band for personal style, and wear it for a long time is an important consideration. The purpose of this study is to apply a wide range of applications regarding smart band rubber materials to help investigate users’ subjective comfort feelings. The generated results of the study are: (1) High elastic soft rubber materials have good subjective feelings in terms of convenience and comfort of use. (2) A hard coefficient of rubber can give users uncomfortable feelings, and, on the other hand, a soft coefficient of rubber feels more comfortable. (3) User's preferences for product appearance and material comfort provides indirect impact on the willingness to wear. Users feel that the products appearance is much important than the product materials affecting comfort feels.

Due to the advantages of the scientific technology, the communication among human beings has been transferred from oral discourse and physical gestures to the means of electrical signals and digital messages. This leads to a more convenient distant communication; nevertheless, the frequencies of face-to-face communication have declined and relationship interflow has also been simplified. Improving the drawbacks of the digital communication, the concept of Aware Service has been conducted in this study to investigate the means of how to provide necessary services in the given set. The purpose of this research is to facilitate users of wireless transmission devices to match up and to provide a channel of further short distance communications. Enhancing the dimension of social interactions, Aware Service and Zigbee, a low-power, short distance and wireless transmission technology, have been adopted to develop a wireless sensor matching system – TOUCH. Via this system, users can be matched up by wearing TOUCH wrist band in which their personal profiles and interests had been transferred to wireless digital signals and by which these messages can be sent out through multicasting. Once successful pairings exit, repeating of glittering and intensity of the vibration on the band would lead both users to have vis-à-vis interaction. The recuperation of lacking in-person interaction then will be established, which would increase the opportunities of mutual communication. The design of TOUCH is appropriate for wireless transmission and portable wear so that time and place restraint is free. Users can unintentionally discover people having the same habits anywhere anytime and would not miss any feasible friendship.

There has performing arts since people appeared.(Li, 2001) Over time, different performing types and theater forms have been developed. Such changes indicate close relationship between performing arts and social structure, cultural background, and technology. With current computational technology development, the application of interactive technology to performing arts gradually emerges. For example, Anarchy Dance Theatre & Ultra Combos applied projection technology for dance movement to show the performers’ walking locus and flow. Huang ’s (2013) work “Huang Yi & KUKA” showcased how to dance harmoniously with robotic arm. SIRO-A, a Japan team, used stage property and projection changes to make a diversity of visual representations. Interactions between computational technology and performing arts can enhance audiences’ visual, acoustic and tactile experiences compared to traditional performing arts. In the future, performing arts will incorporate more technological changes (Chen & Lin, 2008). However, for most performing arts to date, performers tend to express performing contents to the audiences. Because of “forth wall” (Hage, 1993) which is the conception of performance, the relationship of performer and audiences had be cut. Performers are not able to get feedback from the audiences simultaneously. The challenge of this research is how to provide a better relationship between the performers and audience that will not affect the show? The goal of this research is therefore to demonstrate a new interactive interface to enhance the interactions between performers and audiences. This new interface provides audiences’ feeling to performers by using computational technology. We designed a smart bracelet to detect physiological reaction (ex: galvanic skin response) of audience, which then immediately transmits to staffs on the stage. When most audiences have the same physiological reaction to a certain move on the stage, the stage scenery would change its pattern or color to let performers know how the audiences feel. Performers would enhance self-confidence and then incorporate the audiences’ feedback to create their future performance. This study is divided into the following steps: In the first step, the emotions that are most likely to be felt by an audience while watching a performance are identified. The physiological signals that could sense the emotions were selected and used to detect the emotional indicator. The second step involved conducting preliminary experiments in order to examine the accuracy of the signals in detecting the emotional indicator. The third step comprised the creation of a system prototype and testing of its internal system and the operation of its circuit architecture. The feasibility of the system was tested using situational exercises. Further, by examining the shortcomings of the system, directions for future improvements were established. By using the smart wristband system, our study confirms that the application of digital technology can increase the entertainment value of performing arts and enhance the lifelike quality of performances. Since the study was conducted based on the system prototype, the effectiveness of the smart wristband and accuracy of the physiological signals require further improvement. This study aims to apply the smart wristband system to verify that digital technology can enhance the confidence of performers and diversity of performances, thereby providing a new performing arts interface between the performers and audience.

As technology being advancing as time goes by, and people's lives are constantly keeping changing. From the Very Large Scale Integration(VLSI), personal computers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), Feature phones to Smartphones, all consumer electronics are moving toward lightweight, versatile and mobile. At the annual Consumer Electronics Show in the United States in 2013, the rise of wearable devices has led the way for the future of consumer electronics products. In the wearable devices, the best sales are the smart bracelets which accounted together with smart phones as much as 90% in the market. This research report explores the purchasing factors of consumer products from the viewpoint of consumers. To collect literature review and expert questionnaire methods, and then summarizes the four important aspects of the purchase of smart bracelets in order of "Functional Value", "Social Value" , "Epistemic Value", "Conditional Value" . According to the results of the questionnaire, and then by the level of analysis, calculate the key consumer factors after the weight of consumers, and preferences. The study found that the main factor influencing consumers' purchase of smart bracelets is the most important in the main structure of "Functional Value", followed by "Epistemic Value" and "Conditional Value"; the index items are "Price", "Practicality" and "Appearance" being the most important, while "Public Sources", "Symbolic value" and "Reference group" are the less influential factors in the project. The results of the study provide the future production and management of the reference policy for sellers selling smart bracelet products.

In recent years, progresses in the area of medial have extended human life. Along with this development, more and more Taiwanese people raise the concerned about health issues. Moreover, as more wearable device with sophisticated technology has entered people’s households and daily lives, a new life style combining with the Internet of Things (IOT) and cloud platform becomes a reality. In this new life style, a smart bracelet is an excellent representation of such portable device. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to apply the Unified Theory of Acceptance & Use of Technology Extended (UTAUT2) to explore the key factors that influence consumers’ willingness in using a smart bracelet . In this empirical analysis, data collection takes the form of convenience sampling. Surveys were sent to average consumers, yielding a total of 200 valid questionnaires. Then SPSS and LISREL software were used to conduct statistical analysis and follow-up discussion. The results of the survey data confirmed the following: In the integrated technology acceptance model, "Performance Expectancy,” "Effort Expectancy,” and "Hedonic Motivation" have a significant positive impact on consumers' willingness in using the smart bracelet. The overall reliability value (α value) of the study results is .975, which indicates that the reliability of the questionnaire is good, with high internal consistency. The research hopes to help the relevant manufacturers and medical care institutions to determine the direction of the relevant products and more scholars to study and assist the future medical improvement and quality of care.

McLellan, Karyn Anne. "Periodic Coefficients and Random Fibonacci Sequences." 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10222/15381.

Full text
Abstract:
The random Fibonacci sequence is defined by t_1 = t_2 = 1 and t_n = ± t_{n–1} + t_{n–2} , for n ? 3, where each ± sign is chosen at random with P(+) = P(–) = 1/2. We can think of all possible such sequences as forming a binary tree T. Viswanath has shown that almost all random Fibonacci sequences grow exponentially at the rate 1.13198824.... He was only able to find 8 decimal places of this constant through the use of random matrix theory and a fractal measure, although Bai has extended the constant by 5 decimal places. Numerical experimentation is inefficient because the convergence is so slow. We will discuss a new computation of Viswanath's constant which is based on a formula due to Kalmár-Nagy, and uses an interesting reduction R of the tree T developed by Rittaud. Also, we will focus on the growth rate of the expected value of a random Fibonacci sequence, which was studied by Rittaud. This differs from the almost sure growth rate in that we first find an expression for the average of the n^th term in a sequence, and then calculate its growth. We will derive this growth rate using a slightly different and more simplified method than Rittaud, using the tree R and a Pascal-like array of numbers, for which we can further give an explicit formula. We will also consider what happens to random Fibonacci sequences when we remove the randomness. Specifically, we will choose coefficients which belong to the set {1, –1} and form periodic cycles. By rewriting our recurrences using matrix products, we will analyze sequence growth and develop criteria based on eigenvalue, trace and order, for determining whether a given sequence is bounded, grows linearly or grows exponentially. Further, we will introduce an equivalence relation on the coefficient cycles such that each equivalence class has a common growth rate, and consider the number of such classes for a given cycle length. Lastly we will look at two ways to completely characterize the trace, given the coefficient cycle, by breaking the matrix product up into blocks.

Abstract:
Each human society creates during its existence a system of reactions against undesirable activities of persons, who break the rules of the smooth passing of a particular community and contravene the standards and values of the community. The view of these reactions {--} punishments, changes over time and also with a respect to culture of the community or the state and its approach to an individual and his rights. In the past, the forms of punishments were, and in some countries still are, mainly primitive, such as amputations of body parts. However, the civilised world, especially, in case of non-arrestable offences, tends to prefer non-custodial service, such as home detention. Home detention as a form of penalty has been used in various alternatives for many years in countries such as Italy, Germany etc. However, the Czech legal system did not allow to impose this penalty until 2010. This form of penalty should facilitate the situation in Czech crowded prisons. It might be imposed on thousands of the sentenced a year and, at the same time, it would save money of the tax payers. The thesis deals with the legislative framework, where the home detention belongs and it is also focused on the fact how the other states, where home detention has been applied for years, have adopted this form of penalty. The objective of the Probation and Media Service of the Czech Republic is also mentioned in this work. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into two parts {--} the first part deals with the punishment in general, the other one is focused on home detention in particular.

Schoeman, Martha Anna. "Enhancing comprehension in open distance learning computer programming education with visualization." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/20715.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis describes a research project aimed at improving the tracing skills of first-year programming students enrolled for an introductory C++ course at an open distance learning institution by means of a tutorial in the form of a program visualization tool to teach the students to draw variable diagrams. The research was based on the findings from the BRACElet project (Clear, Whalley, Robbins, Philpott, Eckerdal, Laakso & Lister, 2011). A design-based research methodology was followed. To guide the process of developing the tutorial, a framework of 26 guidelines for developing and using visualization tools to teach programming was synthesized from the literature on computing education research CER, educational psychology and computer graphics. Guidelines were supplemented with reasons or explanations for their recommendation and considerations to be taken into account when using a guideline. The framework was enhanced by lessons learnt during the development and testing of the tutorial. The tutorial was tested and refined during two implementation cycles. Both cycles included quantitative and qualitative investigations. All students registered for the introductory module received the tool with their study material. For the quantitative investigations, students completed a questionnaire after using the tutorial. Through the questionnaire biographical data was acquired, the manner in which students used the tutorial and how they experienced using it. The responses to the questionnaires were statistically analysed in combination with respondents’ final marks. The statistical modelling indicated that the students’ biographical properties (a combination of level of programming experience, marks obtained for Mathematics and English in matric and first-time registration for COS1511 or not), had the biggest impact on their final marks by far. During the qualitative investigations students were eye tracked in a Human-Computer Interaction laboratory. The gaze replays in both cycles revealed that students’ reading skills impacted largely on their success, connecting with the findings from the quantitative investigations. Reflections on why the tutorial did not achieve its purpose; and why poor reading skills may have such a strong effect on learning to program, contribute some theoretical understanding as to how novices learn to program.
