Abstract:
The effects of six mechanical site preparation treatments, two stock-type treatments, and early chemical release on survival and growth of planted white spruce (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss) were studied in the BWBSmw1 biogeoclimatic zone of northeastern British Columbia. After 20 years, spruce height and diameter were larger in all mounding treatments than in the control. Early results suggested better spruce performance on large than small mounds, but after 20 years, growth was equally good on small mounds as on mounds with 20 cm mineral capping. Spruce planted on hinge positions in the Bräcke patch and blade scarification treatments did not survive or grow well. Early chemical release improved spruce growth equally as well as the mounding treatments. Twenty year spruce survival averaged 71% in the 14 and 20 cm mound treatments, 60% in the early chemical release treatment, and ≤35% in the Bräcke patch and blade scarification treatments. A large stock type was also planted in untreated ground and, after 20 years, had similar survival and growth as the standard stock type. Differences in survival had a large effect on basal area at age 20 years. Trend analysis showed that treatments diverged into two distinct groups with regard to spruce size during the 20 year span of the study.

Abstract:
In silvicultural trials, the confounding influence of permanent soil properties is assumed to be minimal. A covariance analysis using total elemental concentrations of parent material (geochemistry) and soil particle size distribution (texture) was used to understand the role that these variables could play in tree growth and foliar nutrient status, and in the growth response to site preparation of 16- to18-yr-old jack pine plantations growing on seemingly homogeneous glacial outwash deposits. Three treatments were tested in a replicated design: direct plantation, and site preparation with TTS or with Bräcke. The combination of particle size distribution and soil geochemistry explained the site quality index (SQI) in control plots (R2 = 0.94) better than soil texture alone. In all plots, SQI was strongly related to K and Mg concentrations in foliage and in humus and, to a lesser degree, to foliar N concentrations. A covariance analysis using soil texture and geochemical composition indicated that while site preparation had an effect on tree growth, the sites that responded the most to site preparation were the ones with the lowest growth potential as determined by soil texture and geochemistry. Abstract:
Data from tests of root growth capacity (RGC) of jack pine (Pinusbanksiana Lamb.) and black spruce (Piceamariana (Mill.) B.S.P.) on subsamples of planting stock outplanted on variously prepared sites appropriate to the species in boreal Ontario are examined in relation to field performance. These data were collected from six outplantings per species (two per annum for 3 years) and from further subsamples of the planting stock planted in low-stress nursery plantings. Five kinds of microsite were outplanted: untreated, Bräcke patch bottom, and two kinds of mound. On each site, 600 bare-root trees, either2 + 0 pine or 1.5 + 1.5 spruce, were slit planted during the spring planting season. The RGC data are designated RGC-a (no. of roots < 1 cm), RGC-b(no. of roots > 1 cm), RGC-c (mean aggregate length of roots > 1 cm), and RGC-d (mean mean length of roots > 1 cm). Against these, all available quantifications of performance were examined by correlation analysis. In general, correlation of RGC-d with 3rd-year field performance was much stronger than that of RGC-a, RGC-b, and RGC-c. In particular, the correlation between RGC-d and 3rd-year survival was highly significant (P < 0.01) in both species.

Abstract:
IntroductionThere is evidence that families with a child diagnosed with cancer need psychosocial support throughout the illness trajectory. Unfortunately, there is little research into psychosocial interventions for such families, especially interventions where the entire family is involved. The aim of this pilot study is therefore to evaluate a psychosocial intervention, the family talk intervention (FTI), in paediatric oncology in terms of study feasibility and potential effects.Methods and analysisThis pretest/post-test intervention pilot study is based on families with a child diagnosed with cancer. All families that include at least one child aged 6–19 years (ill child and/or sibling) at one of the six paediatric oncology centres in Sweden between September 2018 and September 2019 will be asked about participation. The intervention consists of six meetings with the family (part of the family or the entire family), led by two interventionists. The core elements in the intervention are to support the families in talking about the illness and related subjects, support the parents in understanding the needs of their children and how to support them and support the families in identifying their strengths and how to use them best. Mixed methods are used to evaluate the intervention (web-based questionnaires, interviews, field notes and observations). Self-reported data from all family members are collected at baseline, directly after the intervention and 6 months later. Study outcomes are family communication, knowledge about the illness, resilience, quality of life and grief.Ethics and disseminationThe study has been approved by the Regional Ethical Review Board in Stockholm (Dnr 2018/250-31/2 and 2018/1852–32). Data are processed in coded form, accessible only to the research team and stored at Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College in a secure server.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov IdentifierNCT03650530, registered in August 2018.

Abstract:
The environmental work in Sweden has developed a lot over the past fifty years. Today, most companies have some kind of environmental work. Environmental activities are regulated by the Environmental Code, which applies in parallel with other laws. This report is an environmental review for Bräcke Diakoni. The report aims to find out how much environmental impact Bräcke Diakoni has. The report will also be used as a basis for an environmental diploma. Bräcke Diakoni is a foundation that has existed in Gothenburg since 1923 and has its operations in health, care, rehabilitation, psychiatry, children, youth, elder care and hospice. They have an environmental diploma since 2005 and are actively working to reduce their environmental impact. Data were collected through interviews, surveys, and Intranet. The environmental review includes eight of Bräcke Diakoni units are located in Bräcke, Gothenburg. The report is general, covering the environmental impact of energy, water, travel, chemicals, waste, recycling and accidents. No indentations are made. The investigation shows that business trips, electricity, district heating, service vehicles and households waste have the highest environmental impact.  Bräcke Diakoni generally has no impact on the environment that needs urgent help. At the end of the report there are suggestions for further environmental work, such as switching energy contracts, reward soft mobility among staff and reduce the missions through the purchase of video conference. Bräcke Diakoni has already taken steps to reduce their environmental impact. Among other things, they help to meet environmental quality objective "A non-toxic environment" by taking care of their hazardous waste. The fact that they use district heating contributes to the "Good Built Environment" and "Fresh air".
Miljöarbetet i Sverige har utvecklats mycket de senaste femtio åren. Idag arbetar de flesta företag med miljö på något sätt. Miljöarbetet regleras av miljöbalken som gäller parallellt med andra lagar. Den här rapporten är en miljöutredning för Bräcke Diakoni. Syftet med rapporten är att ta reda på hur stor miljöpåverkan Bräcke Diakonis verksamheter har. Rapporten ska även användas som underlag till miljödiplomering. Bräcke Diakoni är en stiftelse som funnits i Göteborg sedan år 1923 och har verksamheter inom hälsa, vård, rehab, psykiatri, barn, ungdom, äldreomsorg och hospice. De är miljödiplomerade sedan 2005 och arbetar aktivt för att minska sin miljöpåverkan. Data har samlats in genom intervjuer, inventeringar och Intranätet. Miljöutredningen omfattar åtta av Bräcke Diakonis enheter som är lokaliserade i Bräcke, Göteborg. Utredningen är övergripande och omfattar miljöpåverkan från energiförbrukning, vatten, resor, kemikalier, avfall, återvinning och olyckor. Inga fördjupningar har gjorts. Högst miljöpåverkan fick tjänsteresor, el, fjärrvärme, tjänstefordon och hushållssopor. Bräcke Diakoni har överlag ingen miljöpåverkan som behöver akuta åtgärder. I slutet av rapporten finns förbättringsförslag för fortsatt miljöarbete, exempelvis byta energiavtal, belöna miljövänligt resande bland personalen och minska på tjänsteresor genom införskaffande av videokonferensanläggning. Bräcke Diakoni har redan vidtagit åtgärder för att minska sin miljöpåverkan. Bland annat bidrar de till att uppfylla miljökvalitetsmålet ”Giftfri miljö” genom att ta hand om sitt farliga avfall. Att de använder fjärrvärme bidrar till att uppfylla ”God bebyggd miljö” samt ” Frisk luft”.

Abstract:

Syfte med uppsatsen har varit att undersöka vad man kan erbjuda unga arbetslösa i Bräcke kommun, Vi har valt att titta på åldersgruppen 16-24 år. Uppsatsen baseras på tidigare forskning och information om arbetslöshet och dess följder. Vi har använt oss av personliga intervjuer med bl.a. Arbetsförmedling, Socialtjänst och ansvarig personal för verksamheten Vågen. Metoden är därmed kvalitativ då tillfrågade intervjupersoner har svarat fritt utifrån ställda frågor rörande verksamhetens uppbyggnad och arbetssätt. Vår slutsats är att arbetslösa ungdomar uppmärksammats mycket i Bräcke kommun, även på riksnivå prioriteras insatser för att förhindra långtidsarbetslöshet bland unga. Att vara ung och arbetslös medför en ökad risk för en sämre hälsa och ekonomi, jämfört med ungdomar som arbetar eller studerar.

Abstract:
The report handles the process of creating a website for Outdoor Bräcke. Outdoor Bräcke is a substantial outdoor facility built and planned by the sports association Bräcke Sportsclub. The facility does not have a website and with the goal of spreading information about the facility to the public a graphic profile has been created, with a website, logotype and color scheme. Analysis about web usability was made to answer the main problem statements in the project: What purpose does a website serve for a sports association? What functionalities does a association require on their website? Does associations really need websites? The result of these questions vary due to social medias large role in today's society, associations doesn't need a website to spread information. An outdoor facility like Outdoor Bräcke could use a website where visitors can book the facility online and find information without having to navigate around on social media. The project has specialized on usability to create a website that is easy to use and accessible. The website was sketched on a design tool and the coded with Laravel, which is a framework for the programminglanguage PHP. The report also goes through different usability principles and what tools are used to reach these result. Usability plays a large role in how websites are consumed today, and they require a high usability level for visitors to stay on a website. In the report a in-depth analysis has been made on the current option for a website for Outdoor Bräcke to see how it can be improved and how the current situation is.
Rapporten behandlar arbetet om att skapa en webbplats för Outdoor Bräcke. Outdoor Bräcke är en omfattande föreningsbyggd friluftsanläggning som projekterats och ägs av Bräcke Sportklubb. Anläggningen har ingen webbplats och med målet att sprida information om anläggningen till allmänheten så har en grafisk profil skapats, med webbplats, logotyp, och färgschema. Analyser om webbanvändbarhet har gjorts för att svara på projektets problemformuleringar; Vilket syfte har en webbplats för en idrottsförening? Vilka funktionaliteter behöver en förening ha på sin webbplats? Behöver föreningar verkligen webbplatser? Resultatet av dessa frågor har varierat på grund av sociala mediers stora roll i dagens samhälle, föreningar behöver alltså inte webbplatser för att förmedla information. Men trots detta så kan en anläggning som Outdoor Bräcke behöva en webbplats där besökare kan boka anläggningen online och hitta information utan att behöva söka runt på sociala medier. Projektet har riktat in sig på användbarhet för att få fram en webbplats som är lättanvänd och tillgänglig. Webbplatsen har skissats upp med designverktyg och sedan kodats med Laravel, vilket är ett ramverk för programmeringsspråket PHP. Rapporten går också igenom olika webbanvändbarhets principer samt vilka verktyg som används för att nå dessa resultat. Användbarhet har idag en stor betydelse för hur webbplatser upplevs och det krävs hög användbarhet för att få en användare att stanna kvar på en webbplats. I rapporten görs en ingående analys av det nuvarande alternativet av webbplats som finns för Outdoor Bräcke, för att se vad som kan förbättras samt hur nuläget är.

Abstract:
Problemformulering och syfte:
I den här studien har vi undersökt hur medborgare och medieaktörer ser på den lokala mediebevakningen av Bräcke kommun i Jämtlands län, samt hur medborgarna i orten tar del av nyheter.
Metod och material:
Studien baseras på elva samtalsintervjuer med ett urval av medborgare i Bräcke kommun samt representanter från de fyra största mediehusen verksamma i kommunen.
 Huvudresultat: Resultatet av studien visar att invånarna i Bräcke är missnöjda med bevakningen och att den enligt respondenterna varit undermålig under en längre period. Medierepresentanterna håller till viss del med om denna bild - de anser att Bräcke skulle kunna bevakas bättre, men menar också att det är en resursfråga för mediehusen. Genom att intervjua människor i orten har vi delvis fått ett annat resultat än annan aktuell forskning. Bland annat visar institutet för medieforskning att Bräcke har en bra kommunbevakning i jämförelse med andra kommuner. Denna studie kan ge en fingervisning om problemen som kan uppkomma, utifrån ett medborgarperspektiv, när allt fler orter ligger i medieskugga

Denna uppsats är ett examensarbete i samhällsplanering. Den vill på ett övergripande plan öka kunskapen om internationell invandring till svenska glesbygdsområden. Fokus ligger på latinamerikanska kvinnor som bor i Bräcke kommun i Jämtland och deras upplevelser av att anlända och bo i en liten ort som Bräcke. Jag har också undersökt om platsens karaktär som ett litet samhälle spelar roll för kvinnornas möjlighet att känna tillhörighet och integreras. Studiens bygger på kvalitativ metod med åtta intervjuer med kvinnor från Latinamerika. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten är kroppen som subjekt och som mötespunkt mellan rummets sociala och materiella strukturer och subjektets förkroppsligade erfarenheter av tid och rum. Det gäller både den fysiska upplevelsen av till exempel klimatet och den sociala miljön. Hurkroppsliga fenomen som ras och kön samspelar med praktiker i rummet behandlas också. Teorier om hur ras och etnicitet kan knytas olika till olika geografier används också. Resultatet visar att kvinnorna upplever både det social och det fysiska rummet som väldigt annorlunda än vad de är vana vid. Men de har inte några problem att anpassa sig. Samhällets behov av fler inflyttare har också bidragit till att toleransen mot rasism är relativt låg. Dettaleder till att kvinnornas platsanknytning är stark och de önskar kunna stanna kvar på orten.

Abstract:
Den första januari 1994 infördes lag (1993:387) om stöd och service till vissa funktionshindrade. Ett av lagens syften var att minska de skillnader som fanns mellan olika kommuners stöd till funktionshindrade. Trots detta syfte finns det fortfarande stora skillnader mellan olika kommuner i det stöd som ges till funktionshindrade. Vissa kommuner ger upp till tio gånger mer stöd än andra kommuner. Uppsatsen baseras på den litteraturstudie som jag har gjort med syftet att undersöka vad som kan påverka att personer med funktionshinder får det stöd som de har rätt till. Fem olika studier som på något sätt tar upp rättssäkerhet i handläggning och beslut för personer med funktionshinder kom att granskas under litteraturstudien. Studiens resultat är att implementeringen av lagen inte har lyckats på grund av vaga och mångtydiga begrepp men även på grund av handläggarnas handlingsfrihet att tolka lagens begrepp som de själva vill. Studien kommer fram till att detta leder till att förutsägbarheten och därav rättssäkerheten inom handläggning och beslut enligt LSS är låg.
On the first of January 1994 a new law was introduced in Sweden, Act on Support and Service for Disabled. The aim of the act was to ensure that people with disabilities got the help and support they need to live a normal life and to be able to live like others. Previous to this act there was great differences in support given to people with disabilities between the municipalities. The act on Support and Service for Disabled was meant to reduce these differences and ensure that people with disabilities got the help and support they needed, independently on where in Sweden they are living. Despite these aims the difference between the municipalities remains. This study examine why these differences still remains and what may affect social workers in their decision-making. It is based on a literature review of five different studies that regard legal rights in administration of this law. The result of the study is that the differences can be traced back to vague definitions in the law and that social workers define the act differently. The result also shows that these subjective assessments lead to low predictability of the decisions under the act on Support and Service for Disabled.

Abstract:
In 2003 the libraries of ten municipalities in the northern part of Sweden were each given 10 000 (SEK) by the BIN-project to purchase books on demand instead of making inter-library loans. This attempt was called Köpa på efterfrågan (Purchasing on demand). The purpose of this master thesis is to evalutate Köpa på efterfrågan. The results of the evaluation show that the books purchased on demand were quite popular. Almost all the purchased books were non-fictional with most books being bought within the field of medicin. There is also a correspondence between the education held in the participating municipality and which subject the purchased books belonged to. The libraries have all made rather similar purchases regarding subject, with the exception of Robertsfors. The most expensive subject was medicin, both per book and overall. The libraries have mostly bought their books on Internet bookstores due to their low cost and swift delivery. Purchasing on demand entails more benefits than inter-library lending, as it is less expensive, and a book, once bought, is available on the shelf for others to borrow it, although the increase of the library’s collection demands more thorough media-planning.

Abstract:
Bräckta tårar” är en animerad kortfilm som behandlar ett av Östersjöns miljöproblem, döda bottnar. Det är ett projekt som visar vad som händer i havet och hur det påverkar livet under ytan. Med filmen vill jag på ett illustrativt sätt berätta och beskriva den situation Östersjön befinner sig i. Genom att följa ett friskt hav, som förstörs alltmer på grund av övergödningens påverkan, hoppas jag att fler får kunskap om vad som händer i vårt hav och på så sätt prioriterar ett bättre skydd mot våra ovärderliga naturresurser.
Brackish tears" is an animated short film about the Baltic Sea’s dying sea beds. The film describes the process by which this environmental crisis occurs, focused upon the “Dead Zones” and the sea life that used to flourish there. Following a fresh and healthy sea as it is thoroughly destroyed by chemical pollutants from agriculture run-off, I intend to exhibit the vitality of sea life and the quickness by which it is gone. My hope is that through knowledge, our priorities can move towards better protection of our invaluable and irreplaceable natural resources.
