Abstract:
Helopeltis bradyi is the main pest of tea plants. Ecological characteristics of this pest are important to be understood to support the development of their management and control measures. This study aimed to determine the coexistence and vertical distribution pattern of H. bradyi and its predator, Oxyopes javanus, on tea plant parts. The study was conducted at the PT Pagilaran tea plantation in Central Java, in the 2018 rainy season. Population observations were carried out in situ on 20 infested sample-trees taken randomly, for 10 consecutive days, in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon. Vertical distribution patterns were determined based on Poisson dispersion index (DI), negative binomial, and Green index (GI). The results showed that the O. javanus spider was found preying on H. bradyi. Coexistence between this pest and predator in the same part of the plant, the pest, and the predator, occurred in the morning were 50.0, 42.8, and 7.2%; at noon were 58.3, 41.7, and 0%; and at the afternoon were 66.7, 33.3, and 0%, respectively. The parts of the plant for the coexistence are pekoe leaves; the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of young leaves; and 1st of older leaves. The pattern of vertical distribution in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon for H. bradyi was the weak clump, while for O. javanus was uniform. The ratio of predator: prey in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon was 1:10.7, 1:16.7, and 1:10.0, respectively.

Abstract:
Tea mosquito bug (TMB) is a serious pest of cocoa whose prevalence is high, mostly during summer and post monsoon season. Three species of tea mosquito bug have been reported on cocoa: Helopeltis antonii Signoret, H. theivora Waterhouse, and H. bradyi Waterhouse. H. theivora is the most prevalent one causing damage to young shoots, cherelles and pods. Rearing of tea mosquito bug on cocoa was found to be a failure in the present study hence Helopeltis theivora Waterhouse was maintained on the alternate host mile-a-minute (Mikania micrantha Kunth) under laboratory condition in insect rearing cages. Using freshly reared tea mosquito bugs twenty cocoa hybrids were screened for resistance and were ranked after 72 hours of screening. All the hybrids having less than three lesions per plant in seedlings and less than 33 lesions on pods were ranked as highly resistant. It was observed that hybrids classified as highly resistant had significantly higher phenol content than those classified as susceptible. The significantly low phenol content in the susceptible hybrids suggests that phenolics have a function in mediating resistance to tea mosquito bug in cocoa. From correlation and regression analysis it is confirmed that phenol content can be used as a potential marker indicating the level of resistance of cocoa hybrids against tea mosquito bug resistance.

Abstract:
<strong>Introduction</strong>: Intestinal protozoan infections continue to remain a global public health challenge, particularly in developing countries. Since diagnosis of these parasites is difficult, prevalence data on intestinal protozoa is scarce. <strong>Objectives</strong>: To measure the prevalence of intestinal Protozoan Infections and to identify risk factors associated with Protozoan Infections among the tea garden workers in Ilam district of Nepal. <strong>Materials and Methods</strong>: A Community based cross-sectional study was conducted among tea garden workers in Ilam district of Nepal. Out of 4 tea estates in Ilam District, 2 tea estates (Ilam Municipality and Kanyam) were selected randomly. Out of total 150 tea workers (30 in Ilam Municipality and 120 in Kanyam), 98 workers participated in the study. Semi-structured questionnaire was used and routine examination of stool was done. Collected data was entered in Microsoft excel and analysed. <strong>Results</strong>: Prevalence of protozoan infections among the Tea Estates workers of Ilam District was 22.4%. <em>Giardia lamblia</em> was seen higher (12.2%) than <em>Entamoeba histolytica</em> (10.2%). Regarding ethnicity, the protozoan infection was seen higher among Dalit (40%) than Janajati (18.8%) and Brahmin/Chhetri (11.1%) (P&lt;0.05). The protozoan infections was seen lower who use of soap and water after defecation (6.2%) than those using only water (60%) (P&lt;0.001). The protozoan infections was also seen lower who wear sandals or shoes (17.3%) than those did not wear (47.1%) (P&lt;0.05). The protozoan infection was seen higher among those having the habit of nail biting and thumbs sucking. <strong>Conclusions</strong>: There is relatively high prevalence of intestinal protozoan infection among the Tea garden workers in Ilam District of Nepal. This obviously suggests that there is possible poor personal hygiene, sanitation, and behavior oriented risk factors which predispose the workers to these parasites.

Abstract:
Main objective of this article is to highlight the merits of some Brahui Customs and their impact on the society. Apart from that we also try to thresh out the importance of the customs for the society and how they keep intact with Rules & Regulations in shape of tradition without any written documentation or legislation. It reveals from the history that all such customs were implemented verbally by the stake holders strictly. In short we have also discussed some of the Brahui Customs that, how much importance and impact they have upon culture. For example, most of the people use to wear turbans, assuming that they wear this traditionally or for some other purpose? Similarly, it was mandatory to serve tea and Hubble Bubble (Tobacco "Chan-o-Chulum) when guest used to come and guest was mainly responsible to elaborate about his arrival journey and about the climate, which is traditionally called "Hall o Hawall" No doubt that Hall-o-awall was the main source of communication and core information at that time which were totally based on truthiness, trust and reality. Furthermore, another custom which is based on humanitarian ground which called "Bejjar " in which a person will traditionally demand some help in shape of exchequer, animals or any other sources from their relatives and friends to make necessary arrangements for his or his son or brother's marriage. In this way some body will be able to meet the expenses of marriage with the help of their friends. In addition, due to multi-dimensional merits/benefits, the customs were treated as manifesto of Brahui Culture so Brahui public strictly followed such norm with letter & sprit. If we briefly review the Brahui Culture and people, they may seem very innocent & sincere and mostly lived in rural and undeveloped areas. Their living style was very simple but their vision and commitment towards traditional norms were solid & strong. Especially respect of women, guests, brotherhood and for those who knocked at their door in time of need and shelter. Traditionally Brahui Culturist were always ready to sacrifice their lives for the protection of those who did ask them for. Due to such solid & committed customs, image of Brahui’s was highly appreciable and such code of life made them respectable & honorable in the society. All in all, the main motive was to expose these customs to bring awareness to the general public and open a clue for researchers who are interested to research on the merits of Brahui Culture and their way of life.

Abstract:
Abstract Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is an important beverage crop and commercially grown as a plantation crop. With the changing climate, the tea mosquito bug species complex, viz., Helopeltis theivora, H. bradyi and H. antonii, is emerging as a major threat to cocoa cultivation in India. Among the species of this complex H. theivora is responsible for causing considerable damage. The present investigations were carried out to find a weak link in the life cycle of H. theivora so it can be managed effectively. Specimens of the tea mosquito bug were found to first appear during the first week of September in South India. Helopeltis theivora requires on average 29.28 days to complete its life cycle on cocoa. The highest level of natural mortality was recorded in the first-instar nymph. The total developmental period of the fifth-instar nymph was significantly longer than that for the other nymphal instars. The sex ratio reflects that the population is highly female-biased, which may contribute to the dominant nature of this species in the cocoa ecosystem. Observation of the feeding and oviposition behavior of H. theivora revealed that the insect prefers to feed and oviposit on developing pods rather than on leaves and shoots. Analysis of the species distribution of tea mosquito bug at different elevations revealed that cocoa gardens situated less than 300 meter above mean sea level are dominated by H. theivora, whereas gardens situated more than 300 meter above mean sea level are dominated by H. bradyi. This separation of species across elevation may be driven either by abiotic or biotic factors.

Menon, Kavitha. "Modelling and benchmarking of potentially bioactive molecules from plants: design and implementation of two strategies." Thesis, 2020. https://vuir.vu.edu.au/41789/.

Full text
Abstract:
Natural products and derivatives thereof have contributed significantly to drug discovery and development and have also been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various disease states. Sometimes, the use of such traditional medicines may be based upon many hundreds, if not thousands, of years of human experience. An advantage of drugs derived from natural products compared to synthetic drugs is their availability and the likelihood of reduced side effects. Drugs and drug leads derived from natural products may also be less time consuming and expensive to develop and may be more accessible to developing countries. An exciting advance in this area is the application of computational chemistry to potentially bioactive molecules that can be identified in such natural products. Thus, the structural and physicochemical properties of such molecules can be reconciled with current theories on the molecular aspects of a given disease and/or be used to improve upon such theories or to develop new ones. Computed properties may also be benchmarked to experimental data for isolated molecules of interest that can lead to improved molecular design. In this context, two different strategies have been devised and implemented for the identification and development of potentially bioactive compounds from medicinal plant materials whereby reliable molecular structures and experimental data, that have been previously reported in the peer reviewed scientific literature, have been reconciled with carefully designed computational chemistry calculations and/or further experimentation - with a view to (I) developing improved antioxidants as potential anti-inflammatory drugs and (II) to identify small molecule potential metal chelators that may pass through the blood brain barrier and potentially ameliorate neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. Thus two bioactive products derived from medicinal plants, namely Ribes nigrum (Blackcurrant leaves) and Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi tea), that are traditionally employed to treat rheumatic disease and neurodegenerative symptoms, respectively, have been chosen for investigation under these strategies. These plant materials have been extensively investigated in the scientific literature in terms of the identification of the structures of their potentially bioactive molecules and also with respect to experimental and biological investigations. For the former material, the purported anti-inflammatory effects of the component poly phenolic molecules, in terms of their reported experimental radical scavenging propensities, have been reconciled with their computed antioxidant capacities. These have also been related to a range of computed qualitative and quantitative structural and physicochemical properties. This is with a view to optimizing their antioxidant potential and possibly designing anti- inflammatory drug candidates. For the latter material, a screening of the reported molecular structures of potentially bioactive components has identified two smaller molecular fragments, namely the isomers jujubogenin and pseudojujubogenin, that may also be present in the plant extract and that are deemed capable of passing through the blood brain barrier and complexing transition elements within the brain, specifically copper and/or zinc, that are associated with stabilizing the amyloid plaque of Alzheimer’s disease, or iron, that may over-load the substantial nigra in Parkinson’s disease. In this thesis, the metal complexes of these two molecules have been modelled utilizing semi-empirical quantum chemistry and density functional calculations and the characteristics of the copper, zinc and iron complexes have been described. These studies clearly show that the diaquo, square planar copper complex of jujubogenin is the preferred structure, revealing that jujubogenin is an excellent bidentate ligand for this particular transition metal. The corresponding zinc complex was also shown to be feasible, but less likely to form; whereas the iron complex was shown not to be accommodated at all. To complement these studies, the Brahmi tea material was extracted with a range of solvents, and fractions were systematically subjected to ESI- MS. Scrutiny of the resultant spectra revealed the presence of the protonated jujubogenin moiety in one of the ethyl acetate fractions. Subsequent spiking of this fraction with copper, zinc and iron revealed the presence in the spectra of the diaquo copper complex of jujubogenin, exactly as predicted from the computer modelling. Notably, no zinc or iron complexes could be detected and competition experiments only revealed the presence of the copper complex - also consistent with the computer modelling. Subsequent MS/MS experiments on the copper complex yielded the free ligand. In summary, for possible anti-inflammatory agents, these investigations show that the computed homolytic bond dissociation energies of the component poly phenolics, by themselves, are not sufficient to explain enhanced antioxidant activity and suggest that other properties such as molecular conformation, steric effects and, in particular, the magnitude and direction of the dipole moment also have important roles to play. In relation to possible drug leads for the treatment of neurological conditions, the discovery of the extraordinary copper specificity of the jujubogenin molecule, both computationally and experimentally, makes this molecule a candidate for a BBB penetrating chelating agent that could be active towards the amelioration of Alzheimer’s disease and possibly other conditions. This is an exciting discovery and warrants the isolation of jujubogenin and its derivatives in for further testing. Thus, the design and implementation of the key strategies devised and described within this thesis and their respective application to two selected traditional medicines relating to specific disease states, is demonstrably useful in the rational design of drug candidates and suggest new avenues for future research.

Abstract:
A digital music edition that follows the principles implemented in the fully-digital, MEI-coded Digital Interactive Mozart Edition, pursued by the Mozarteum Foundation and the Packard Humanities Institute, has many advantages over conventional analog editions. One advantage is greater transparency, which is achieved not only at the level of the material, e. g. the inclusion of digital images of the sources, but above all by making editorial processes and decisions visible in the edition itself. In the digital edition, the Critical Report, a defining component of any critical edition and often physically separate from the edited musical text, becomes part of the overall digital code. The philological findings and editorial processes reported encompass the entire range of forms of expression, from verbal comments and annotations to pure code and non-verbal, largely visual communication strategies. Therefore, the format of the traditional printed Critical Report, which is mainly made up of text and tables, dissolves and is replaced by an immaterial, non-delimitable field of data, information, references and media for which the term Critical Documentation is more appropriate.

Abstract:
The tradition of the piano ballade, begun by Chopin's masterpieces, includes important works of Liszt, Brahms, Grieg, and Fauré, yet is otherwise virtually unknown to us. This collection offers a rich and varied sample from the enormous number of forgotten ballades originally published between 1842 and 1893. Among these are virtuosic ballades, salon ballades, narrative ballades, ballades inspired by folksong, and ballades inspired by Chopin. In all, ten works by ten different composers, including Ignaz Moscheles, Hans von Bülow, Sigismond Thalberg, Joachim Raff, and Edward MacDowell, are presented. Considered together with better-known representatives of the type, these works suggest the nature and the range of an important genre.

Abstract:
Zaczął odczuwać żal i skruchę.

Abstract:
The Sa˜o Paulo–Brasi´lia Pipeline was designed and constructed to be highly automated and is remotely operated by the National Pipeline Control Center in Rio de Janeiro. The terminals along the pipeline are largely unmanned nights and weekends. The PETROBRAS quality control standard establishes practices for tracking, sampling and analyzing product batches transported through the pipeline. A prototype of an automatic sampling system was designed to collect up to ten flow proportional and or instantaneous (“spot”) samples of different product batches transported through the pipeline for any given programmed schedule. This would eliminate the need for operators to be present at the terminals during weekends, holidays and night time to manually collect samples. This paper describes the successful implementation of this project from technical specification of the development of an Automatic Sampling System, the solutions proposed for its special features, the main characteristics of the Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA) used to develop it and the systematic approach used for design, and factory / field testing phases.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction: Organized mammographic screening led to an increase in the diagnosis of DCIS. In countries with adequate mammographic coverage, the percentage of DCIS reaches 20%. In Brazi, most of the states only perform occasional mammographic screening, and data about DCIS incidence is scarce. Objectives: Analyze and describe clinical, diagnostic, imaging and therapeutic characteristics of patients diagnosed with DCIS and treated at Pérola Byington Hospital (PBH), Brazil. Methods: The official database of PBH from January 2011 to December 2019 showed 11,373 cases of breast cancer, and 812 (7.4%) of them were DCIS. We analyzed retrospectively the medical record of 332 patients who underwent biopsy, vaccum assisted biopsy guided by mammography or ultrasound whose diagnosis was DCIS, and they were treated at the hospital. Patients with previous breast cancer or lobular neoplasia were excluded. We divided the analysis into two groups, based on the type of surgery they underwent, conservative or radical surgery. Some patients have been submitted to the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) at surgery and the blue technique stained by H&E (hematoxylin and eosin) was used. Results: Most patients underwent conservative surgical treatment (73.5%), with a SLNB in 34.5%. Mastectomy was performed in 26.5% of cases and in this group 93.2% there was also axillary surgery. None of the sentinel nodes was involved. In the conservative surgery group, the mammographic alterations were the main cause for the diagnosis in 80.3% of the cases, with calcifications being the most common alteration in 73.9% of the cases, followed by the palpable lesion in 18.5% of them. Mammography was also the main diagnostic test in the group of patients who underwent mastectomy (73.9%) and calcifications appeared in 67% of cases, followed by palpable lesions in 28.1%. When assessing local recurrence, a percentage of 6.4% was found in conservative surgery (ten in situ and five invasive) and 4.5% in mastectomy (one in situ and four invasive). Conclusions: The 7.4% incidence of DCIS shows that even though lower than in countries that have organized screening, it is a growing demand, especially for the public health system where stereotactic biopsy is not available in many centers. Despite the fact that most of the cases were non palpable, we found that mastectomy was indicated in 23.5% of them, probably because of the extension and multicentricity of the DCIS. The absence of metastases in SNB made us rethink the real need for its indication.
