Abstract:
The debate on brain drains and brain gain remains central to migration discussions, particularly in Nigeria and Africa. This study explored the missing link between the two by reviewing literature conceptually, theoretically, and empirically. Based in the Neo-Classical Theory of Migration, it highlights migration as a rational response to wage and opportunity gaps while emphasizing circular migration’s role in balancing labour markets and fostering development. Key push factors driving migration in Nigeria include poverty, unemployment, insecurity, poor governance, political instability, a wea

More concretely on developments in the traditional brain drain literature towards a new shift, claiming the brain gain effect, as an alternative to the brain drain effect, that emigration may bring to a source country. The research investigates not only the obvious direct loss effects – the so called brain drain – but also the possibility of more subtle indirect beneficial effects.</p>

The European Union (EU) has maintained relations in key strategic areas with India since the 1960s. Education has played an important role in the diplomatic relations between India and the EU. Non-European student mobility to the countries of the EU has significantly increased in recent years and India has been a major source of student mobility to the EU leading to education becoming a service increasingly tradable. Abstract:
This thesis concerns itself with the effects of factor mobility on the economic development of geographically distinct regions. In Chapter 1, it is shown with a simple model of endogenous growth that brain drain leads to divergence of growth rates. But if return migration is introduced as a source of technology diffusion, a trade-off between brain drain and technology gain arises. Return migration leads to convergence of economic development, if the cost of remaining in the foreign country are relatively high and the transferability of technology is good. This is, because then returnees bring
