Abstract:
The confectionery industry in the world belongs to dynamically developing sectors of the economy and fast-growing segments of the consumer market, due to the accelerated transformation of demand under influence of healthy nutrition and safety trends, as well as ability of the industry to adapt and develop considering consumer preferences through innovations and development of sustainable competitive strategies. New products with original consumer properties of functional purpose with a low sugar content and healthy fats are constantly appearing in the confectionery market. In this regard, assessment of products competitiveness should take into account the new qualities and availability to the consumer, which will allow commodity producers to form an efficient competitive strategy based on the analysis, plan innovative initiatives, and achieve success in promoting in the domestic and foreign markets. The paper presents the results of studying the trends in the world confectionery market, as well as marketing analysis of quality price parameters of products of domestic and foreign producers in the domestic market. An efficient methodology for assessing competitiveness of functional purpose confectionery products in terms of chocolate has been substantiated, and its testing results made it possible to identify the competitive advantages of domestic products in the field of organoleptic properties, nutritional value, functional efficiency and information content of packaging for the consumer. Use of the development in practice will make it possible to successfully position Belarusian chocolate as an original product of high quality, increase the added value of products for export, as well as form a stable consumer demand for healthy foods in the domestic market. Abstract:
High-capacity and high-angle pressure belt conveyors which come into use in open pit mines in Russia and in the post-Soviet space, as well as acknowledgment of their economic efficiency made large mineral mining companies interested in installation of such equipment. The related research and empirical data grow in number. However, conveyors currently operated in Russia and in the CIS countries are manufactured abroad. Both domestic and foreign technical literature lacks a commonly accepted design policy of the conveyors. Furthermore, most foreign-manufacture high-angle pressure belt conveyors have small angles and lengths. In the meanwhile, open pit mines in Russia need long high-capacity and high-angle conveyors. Many aspects of justification of high-angel conveyor parameters are sufficiently elucidated in technical literature. The estimate of the hold-down and its dependence on the angle and length of a conveyor is yet deficiently studied. The value of the hold-down has a direct influence on the conveyor characteristics, including resistance to motion and engine power requirements. Accordingly, this article analyzes the influence exerted by the angle and length of a conveyor on the hold-down. The stress state of the load on the belt of the high-angle conveyor is analyzed, and the required holddown is evaluated with respect to the conveyor capacity, angle and length. It is known that hold-down governs loading of the load-carrying branch, which affects its service life. The analysis shows that 30 % of down-time of high-angle conveyors in the world is caused by failures of the load-carrying branch. The relations are proposed for determining the required linear hold-down versus the length of a conveyor to ensure sliding of cargo layers relative to each other and relative to the belt along the longitudinal axis of the conveyor. The recommendations on hold-down distribution along the conveyor to slacken the hold-down influence on the resistance to motion and on the engine power are proposed.

Abstract:

Global optimization problems sometimes attain their extrema on infinite subsets of the search space, forcing mathematically rigorous programs to require large amounts of data to describe these sets. This makes these programs natural candidates for both vectorization methods and parallel computing. Here, we give a brief overview of parallel computing and vectorization methods, exploit their availability by constructing a fully distributed implementation of a mathematically rigorous Vector Parallel Branch and Bound Algorithm using MATLAB’s SPMD architecture and interval arithmetic, and analyze the performance of the algorithm across different methods of inter-processor communication.

Abstract:
Treatment of jojoba plants with foliar sprays of benzyladenine (BA) alone, or in combination with gibberellin(4+7) (GA(4+7)) fatly increased branching frequency compared to untreated control plants and to plants from which all shoot tips were removed (pinched). Use of BA by itself resulted in an adverse reduction in intemode elongation. This was overcome in treatments which included GA(4+7) Use of GA(4+7) by itself resulted in reduced branching and abnormal shoot elongation. Pruning (pinching) of all shoot tips resulted in a slight increase in branching over untreated plants, but it had much less effect on branching than did treatments with BA. Results were very similar on two different clones tested.

Abstract:
Financial institutions make use of a variety of delivery channels for servicing their customers. The primary channel utilised as a means of acquiring new customers and increasing market share is through the retail branch network. The 1990s saw the Internet explosion and with it a threat to branches. The relatively low cost associated with virtual delivery channels made it inevitable for financial institutions to direct their focus towards such new and more cost efficient technologies. By the beginning of the 21st century -and with increasing limitations identified in alternative virtual delivery channels, the financial industry returned to a more balanced view which may be seen as the revival of branch networks. The main purpose of this study is to provide a roadmap for financial institutions in managing their branch network. A three step methodology, representative of data mining and management science techniques, will be used to explain relative branch efficiency. The methodology consists of clustering analysis (CA), data envelopment analysis (DEA) and decision tree induction (DTI). CA is applied to data internal to the financial institution for increasing' the discriminatory power of DEA. DEA is used to calculate the relevant operating efficiencies of branches deemed homogeneous during CA. Finally, DTI is used to interpret the DEA results and additional data describing the market environment the branch operates in, as well as inquiring into the nature of the relative efficiency of the branch.
Thesis (M.Com. Abstract:
The increasing emphasis on mass customization, shortened product lifecycles, synchronized supply chains, when coupled with advances in information system, is driving most firms towards make-to-order (MTO) operations. Increasing global competition, lower profit margins, and higher customer expectations force the MTO firms to plan its capacity by managing the effective demand. The goal of this research was to maximize the operational profits of a make-to-order operation by selectively accepting incoming customer orders and simultaneously allocating capacity for them at the sales stage. For integrating the two decisions, a Mixed-Integer Linear Program (MILP) was formulated which can aid an operations manager in an MTO environment to select a set of potential customer orders such that all the selected orders are fulfilled by their deadline. The proposed model combines order acceptance/rejection decision with detailed scheduling. Experiments with the formulation indicate that for larger problem sizes, the computational time required to determine an optimal solution is prohibitive. This formulation inherits a block diagonal structure, and can be decomposed into one or more sub-problems (i.e. one sub-problem for each customer order) and a master problem by applying Dantzig-Wolfe’s decomposition principles. To efficiently solve the original MILP, an exact Branch-and-Price algorithm was successfully developed. Various approximation algorithms were developed to further improve the runtime. Experiments conducted unequivocally show the efficiency of these algorithms compared to a commercial optimization solver. The existing literature addresses the static order acceptance problem for a single machine environment having regular capacity with an objective to maximize profits and a penalty for tardiness. This dissertation has solved the order acceptance and capacity planning problem for a job shop environment with multiple resources. Both regular and overtime resources is considered. The Branch-and-Price algorithms developed in this dissertation are faster and can be incorporated in a decision support system which can be used on a daily basis to help make intelligent decisions in a MTO operation.

On Forest field, studies in development of forest harvesting and transport still being the most emphasized subject, for being directly responsible for the final cost of wood. However, other different phases are a big potential for studies, as Forest Inventory. Information provided by the Forest Inventory are important for all planning of Forest Enterprise, as it bases any decision making involving forest resources. On this present research, was based on vehicle routing problem for planning this task. The vehicle routing problem and its variants has being largely studied on the last years, mainly for its applicability and efficiency for given solutions resulting in cost and distance reduction. The general objective of the present study is optimize the Inventory Forest planning from a vehicle routing problem and evaluate the importance of this technique on its productivity. Among the factors that influence this productivity, the spatial dispersion , basic feature of forest stands, it is one controllable factor from the use of technique that makes possible matches with planning. Studies shows that this match brings out significant results

Abstract:
Hydroforming of a stainless steel T-joint with ratio of tube diameter to thickness D/t = 108 and ratio of branch diameter to tube diameter d/D = 0.6 was studied. The effects of counter punch loading path on branch height and thickness were discussed. Because the branch diameter is smaller than the tube diameter, it is difficult to obtain a higher branch height and avoid thinning at the same time. An approach for increasing branch height of a hydroforming T-joint with smaller branch diameter was proposed. Finite element method (FEM) simulations were carried out for analyzing the deformation during hydroforming of the T-joint. Thinning ratio distribution, stress and strain states from different loading paths were presented. The experimental results show that the new approach with counter punch moving backwards during calibration is effective to increase branch height and to improve thickness distribution.
