Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate linkage among productivity, quality, and business performance in home-based brassware units in India. Design/methodology/approach This study involved action research of home-based brassware units applying procedures for three-stage least-squares (3SLS) regression analysis, with data obtained through questionnaire survey based on convenience sampling. Findings This study has supported the established belief that quality leads to productivity, and subsequently productivity leads to better business performance for home-based brassware units in India. The consistent and logical result of this study using 3SLS regression analysis has provided empirical understanding of the appropriate linkage among productivity, quality, and business performance. Research limitations/implications This study has limitations of findings, as it studied the home-based brassware units in the Indian context only. Practical implications This study implies that marketable home-based brassware products are to be produced by taking into account boundaries of production within the framework of goals and value created by motivation and dependability for monitoring the business performance. Identifying an appropriate linkage among productivity, quality, and business performance may project a holistic evaluation of the policy development related to home-based brassware units. Originality/value This is an original study to test empirical linkages among productivity, quality, and business performance using 3SLS regression analysis particularly for home-based brassware units in India.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper examines the ways in which the concepts of “quality”, “productivity” and “business performance” are dealt in the literature to exhibit that terms used within these fields are vaguely defined and poorly understood. The purpose of this paper is to define quality, productivity and business performance along with their linkages for home-based brassware manufacturing units. Design/methodology/approach – This paper reviews related academic literature mostly since past ten years. Findings – This paper clarifies meaning and linkages of quality, productivity and business performance in home-based brassware manufacturing units. Research limitations/implications – The meaning and interpretations of quality, productivity and business performance may differ for other manufacturing units. Practical implications – This paper highlights determinants of quality, productivity and business performance using key performance areas as applied explicitly for home-based brassware manufacturing units. The systems approach has been applied to understand productivity. Originality/value – This paper creates terminologies that reduce the existing confusion with the field for applications in academia and brassware industry.

Abstract:
In this research paper, we have studied the role and process of knowledge management in small family businesses at different stages of its growth: startup, business consolidation and succession. We intend to study if in family run MSME clusters education of firm owner gives any edge in the sustainability of the business. There is lack of availability of literature on study of Indian MSME with family business perspective. Our study encompasses factors that stimulate innovation, technology acquisition and business growth and sustainability. Evidences have been drawn from brass manufacturing cluster of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. The research is based on cross-case analysis of six brassware manufacturing units of Moradabad. We attempted to build on existing literature reviews on knowledge management process in family firms and assess how these theories fit in case of small family run export oriented enterprises, which are highly competitive. It was found family relationship, attitude to learn, critical thinking and social capital are keys in determining sustainability of these firms. A theoretical model has been curved out of the study.

"Ambient Air Quality Monitoring and Management in Moradabad." International Journal of Sustainable Water and Environmental Systems 06, no. 2 (2014). http://dx.doi.org/10.5383/swes.06.02.0006.

Abstract:
The present study deals with the assessment of ambient air quality with respect to Total Suspended Particulates (TSP), Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (PM10), Sulphur dioxide (SO2) and Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) considered over a period of two years from Sep 2010 to Aug. 2012. Air quality index are used for local and regional air quality management in many cities of the world. The air quality index has been determined at three different sites i.e. PTC (SI), Buddh Bazar (SII) and Mughalpura (SIII) of Moradabad city. The experimental results obtained from the different air quality categories according to national ambient air quality standard at different site as PTC (SI) though looks a clean area, falls under moderate pollution category with 68.78 index value. This may be due to fossil fuel combustion at the outskirts of the parade grounds and burning of dry leaves inside the area. Buddh Bazar (SII) which is a commercial area falls under high air pollution category with 99.48 index value. This site near railway station is extremely congested resulting in slow movement of vehicles, long waits at the signals and a large number of vehicles running during the day and night time. Mughalpura (SIII) is an industrial area, falls under the very high pollution category with 120.99 index value, may be due to the industrial activities i.e. mainly brasswares. Five heavy metals i.e. Cu, Zn, Fe, Cd and Pb were also observed at all the sites. Among the metals highest concentration of Zn was recorded at almost all the sites whereas Cu, Zn and Fe was found higher at industrial site, may be attributed to melting of Brass sillies to prepare the different Brassware items.
