Abstract:

The former usually grow on the more or less decayed rhytidome of Quercus ilex, the latter exclusively on Hedera helix trunks.

Abstract:
This paper deals with large deployable networks constructed by interconnected Bricard linkages. Three kinds of tilings, which correspond to three kinds of deployable networks, are employed as the auxiliary tools for the arrangement of the basic deployable Bricard units. Joint connections between deployable units are designed in a special way so that links of the deployable units are deployable/foldable and do not suffer from interference. The CAD models are built to show the feasibility of the deployable networks presented in this paper.

Abstract:
Dr John Brickell, the obscure author/compiler of the Natural History of North-Carolina (1737), has long been credited with a second work, commonly cited as A Catalogue of American Trees and Shrubs which will endure the Climate of England (1739). Careful review of the available data suggests that this attribution may have resulted from an error in Robert Watt's Bibliotheca Britannica, in which a broadside catalogue sheet bearing the title, issued by plant nurseryman Christopher Gray, was mistakenly credited to Brickell.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper proposes the concept of full configuration state of metamorphic mechanism. Based on the concept, the configuration synthesis principle of metamorphic parallel mechanism is put forward. Firstly, a metamorphic parallel mechanism in full configuration state is synthesized, and then full configuration state evolves into a specific configuration state by increasing constraints or decreasing degrees of freedom. A reconfigurable moving platform based on the triple symmetric Bricard spatial closed-loop mechanism with a single degree of freedom is proposed. Based on this, a new method for switching motion configuration states of the metamorphic parallel mechanism is constructed. According to the configuration synthesis principle presented above, a novel metamorphic parallel mechanism that can switch between three- and four-degree-of-freedom is synthesized, and then the triple symmetric Bricard spatial closed-loop mechanism is used as the reconfigurable moving platform (that is, the reconfigurable foot of a walking robot) of the metamorphic mechanism, and thus, a novel metamorphic parallel leg mechanism is created. The screw theory is used to verify the degrees of freedom of the new type of metamorphic parallel leg. The proposed metamorphic parallel leg mechanism is expected to improve flexibility and adaptability of walking robots in unstructured environment.

Abstract:
The article considers kinematic parameters of the 6R Bricard linkage characteristic point obtained analytically. Computer simulation of this mechanism resulted in diagrams of changes in the special orientation of the coordinate system of the characteristic point and a projection of its velocities to the basic coordinates system. In addition, we developed a prototype model for experimental studies. The difference between data obtained using the experimental model and the data obtained by computer analysis is less than 5%. This article describes the components of the experimental model. Using a stepper motor requires solving additional tasks: resonance, peaks at the first and the last steps, step dividing, ensuring the smooth acceleration of the motor shaft, smooth increasing of the shaft load, etc.

The author deals with the property of involute gears according to which the velocity ratio is constant for any distance between axes. It is known that the involute is the only shape which has this property, but it is not well known in a detailed way, and the only complete demonstration dates from Bricard. For this reason the present paper has an historical interest and, on the other hand, it proposes a new proof better understandable nowadays for it is based on Euler-Savary properties only.

Abstract:
The Brican TD100 is a high performance, small UAS designed and made in Brampton Ontario Canada. The concept was defined in late 2009 and it is designed for a maximum weight of 25 kg which is now the accepted cut-off defining small civil UASs. A very clean tractor propeller layout is used with a lightweight composite structure and a high aspect ratio wing to obtain good range and endurance. The design features and performance of the initial electrically powered version are discussed and progress with developing a multifuel engine version is described. The system includes features enabling operation beyond line of sight (BLOS) and the proving missions are described. The vehicle has been used for aerial photography and low cost mapping using a professional grade Nikon DSLR camera. For forest fire research a FLIR A65 IR camera was used, while for georeferenced mapping a new Applanix AP20 system was calibrated with the Nikon camera. The sorties to be described include forest fire research, wildlife photography of bowhead whales in the Arctic and surveys of endangered caribou in a remote area of Labrador, with all these applications including the DSLR camera.
