Abstract:
This diploma thesis determines potential benefit of shale gas and its influence on price of gas on European market. For this purpose was chosen two variants, which have the best chance to decrease price of gas on European market. The first variant is extraction of shale gas directly in Europe. The size of deposits and cost estimates indicates the biggest potential from both variants. Possible extraction could be able to decrease significantly price of gas on European market. Nevertheless the present attitude of Europe to extraction can limit this potential. The second variant is import of LNG,

Master's s thesis determines potential influence of "shale miracle" observed in the U.S. since the first decade of new millennium on energy independence which has been one of the U.S. policy priorities since the 1970s' oil shocks. Technological development and innovations supported by the government triggered an unexpected and in its way unique boom, which significantly strengthened the U.S. economy. The thesis examines impact of oil crises on the U.S. energy policy, history of unconventional gas and oil extraction, and the federal involvement in energy R&D programs. Energy independence is ana

The thesis focuses on the influence of new natural gas sources on energy security in the USA. The new sources include mainly shale gas, but also tight gas and others. The main objective of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of changes in production and trade in gas on energy security and self-sufficiency of the USA. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is theoretic and thus provides the frameworks for the following parts of the thesis. The diploma thesis "Influence of international energy security on shale gas mining in euro-atlantic area" deals with the possibility of developing commercial shale gas mining operations in Europe. Due to increase of gas consumption in Europe and without Europe's own sufficient production, its dependence on gas imports is growing, especially on the imports from Russian Federation. Although thanks to the development of LNG natural gas could become a global commodity in the future, the natural gas markets still maintain a regional character for the moment. The Thesis aims to analyze the possible shale gas development in the EU in context with raising problem of energy security. Based on the experience of shale revolution in the USA and econometric modelling using the method of Ordinary Least Squares with Fixed Effects to test the dependence of price on shale gas production, the transfer of US model to the EU is discussed. The results show that shale production affects the price negatively and that US model is successful due to multiple reasons, primarily presence of experienced companies, geological structure and strong regulation rules. This work focuses on situations where two different sectors of human security - economic and environmental - clash. It uses the currently popular topic of shale gas in the United States in order to determine what happens when such conflict occurs. It also tries to find out which sector potentially dominates in this conflict. The first part of the work defines the research questions, states my preliminary working thesis and discusses sources used. The theoretical background of the whole work is then outlined in the second part. Special attention is given to the concept of human security and the
