Svendsen, Erik. "Danske intellektuelle på Facebook - eksemplificeret ved Svend Brinkmann og Carsten Jensen." MedieKultur: Journal of media and communication research 34, no. 65 (December 21, 2018): 54–75. http://dx.doi.org/10.7146/mediekultur.v34i65.104886.

Abstract:
The article analyses how two unique Danish intellectual voices, Professor Svend Brinkmann and writer Carsten Jensen, use Facebook as a platform. It argues, on the one hand, that Facebook offers direct access to the two intellectuals’ followers and readers but on the other hand also creates communicative challenges. The article asks in particular whether the Brinkmann and Jensen follow or depart form the communicative practices afforded by the platform. After an initial review of the literature about the public intellectual, the analysis of Brinkmann’s and Jensen’s use of Facebook shows how Brinkman manages to invent new short forms which grant him extended public impact, whereas Jensen uses Facebook to extend his work as a polemist. Moreover, the analysis argues that both intellectuals perform a private self and position themselves vertically and authoritatively in relation to their followers. In addition, like most other Facebook users, they also promote themselves and their activities. Habermas once pointed to social media’s ambivalences vis à vis the intellectual. The article’s analysis substantiates this claim.

Abstract:
In this article my aim is to take up a thread from an article by Svend Brinkmann, wherein he is anxious to show that mental suffering cannot exclusively be explained within the narrow vocabulary of medical diagnosis systems, but can, an should be, be articulated through a large range of ‘interpretive vocabularies’ (Brinkmann 2014). In line with Brinkmann’s emphasis on the large range of possible interpretive vocabularies, I will engage the moral philosopher Iris Murdoch to show how the exploration of different possible interpretations of a particular client’s situation is in fact an ethical task, which requires the practitioner’s personal development of virtue in terms of selfless, loving attention as the precondition for a realistic interpretation of the client’s situation.

Abstract:
In this work, an analysis of laminar forced convection in a pipe with heated and adiabatic walls for a Newtonian fluid with constant properties is performed by taking the viscous dissipation into account when the axial heat conduction in the fluid is neglected. The Nusselt number versus the Brinkmann, which is based on the total wall heat flux density, have been investigated. In order to determine the temperature field, an analytical solution describing the velocity field in the pipe was used, while the energy equation was determined by the boundary element method (BEM). The results of the calculations of Nusselt numbers as a function of the Brinkman number for different thermal insulation heights to the diameter of the circular duct were presented in the form of diagrams.

Abstract:
A mathematical model is presented for predicting magnetic targeting of multifunctional carrier particles that deliver therapeutic agents to malignant tissue in vivo. These particles consist of a nonmagnetic core material that contains embedded magnetic nanoparticles and therapeutic agents such as photodynamic sensitizers. For in vivo therapy, the particles are injected into the micro vascular system upstream from malignant tissue, and captured at the tumor using an applied magnetic field. In this paper, a mathematical model is developed for predicting noninvasive magnetic targeting of therapeutic carrier particles in a micro vessel. The flow of blood in the micro vessel is described by a two phase Herschel-Bulkley fluid model. The Brinkmann model is used to characterize the permeable nature of the inner wall of the micro-vessel. The fluidic force on the carrier traversing the micro-vessel and the magnetic force due to the external magnetic field is taken into account. The model enables rapid parametric analysis of magnetic targeting as a function of key variables including the size of the carrier particle, the properties and volume fraction of the imbedded magnetic nanoparticles, the properties of the magnet, the micro vessel and the permeability of the micro vessel.

In ASME 2008 First International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat Transfer. ASMEDC, 2008. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/mnht2008-52334.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper presents the effect of introducing a porous medium on the heat transfer by a reciprocating flow in a small-scaled two-dimensional channel. The channel is discretely heated from above and is insulated in the bottom. In this ideal geometry, a fully developed reciprocating flow is established by a sinusoidal pressure gradient. In side boundaries, velocity and temperature are assumed to be periodic. A certain volume of this channel is occupied by a porous medium which is shown to be an effecting tool for heat transfer augmentation. The results of this study are declared by some dimensionless parameters such as Womersley number (α), Darcy number (Da), porosity (ε), Prandtl number (Pr), Pressure gradient amplitude (A) and dimensionless characteristic lengths in the channel and porous medium. Heat transfer enhancement in presence of a porous medium is investigated in this study. Despite decreasing the fluid velocity in porous media, a high conductivity of such media can effectively enhance the heat transfer rate and because of these two contradictory effects, an optimum depth for the porous region is expected. For this purpose, at first the momentum equations of the domain are solved analytically (Brinkmann-extended Darcy model is used for porous region) and on the other hand the energy equation is investigated and solved numerically using Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The enhancing effect and optimization criteria are discussed in result section.

In ASME Turbo Expo 2020: Turbomachinery Technical Conference and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/gt2020-16032.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract High aspect ratio channels are a common internal cooling feature in Gas Turbine blades, mostly suitable for the trailing edge region or mid-chord regions. Traditionally such channels are fitted with rib-turbulators and/or pin-fin turbulators to augment heat transfer and prevent material failure. Highly efficient internal cooling of blades can improve the efficiency of a real Gas Turbine power cycle by tolerating higher Turbine Inlet Temperatures (TIT). Multi-physics Topology optimization (TO) has been employed in the current study to find optimized shape of these ducts, with an aim to increase heat transfer, while constraining the pressure drop across the channel. This method, commonly used in structural problems, is a novel topic of research when applied to fluid-thermal studies. Material distribution in the computational domain is varied by changing porosity value in each cell and thereby altering the fluid path and creating a conjugate heat transfer problem. Each cell has a value of Brinkmann porosity factor which either simulates a blockage, or a fluid region depending on a low or high value of this design variable. Hence the degree of freedom is high in this method, and there is no manual bias introduced, unlike in parametric shape optimization which is limited to a few design parameters. The unconventional geometries obtained as an end product of this optimization process can thus be an alternative to existing rib/pin-fin type of cooling geometries. The recent progress in additive manufacturing can now facilitate the manufacturing of complicated shapes. An in-house Open-FOAM solver has been used to carry out the process in only twice the amount of time compared to a regular RANS-CFD. 3-Dimensional rectangular channels with inlet aspect ratios of 4:1 and 8:1 have been considered as baselines with a constant inlet velocity. Resulting optimum geometries were found to have organic tree like branching arrangements of rib-like wall roughness and v-shaped structures.
