Abstract:
O artigo traz um estudo do enquadramento noticioso dado pelo Jornal Nacional (JN) às votações que ocorreram na Câmara dos Deputados a respeito das duas denúncias emcanhadas pela Procuradoria Geral da República (PGR) contra o presidente Michel Temer (MDB), acusado de corrupção passiva, organização criminosa e obstrução da Justiça. As votações foram no dia 02 de agosto e 24 de outubro de 2017, em que Temer obteve maioria para vetar investigações emquanto estiver na Presidência. A base teórica tem dois eixos temáticos: a centralidade da mídia (Rodrigues, 1990; Gomes, 2004; Miguel, 2003), a posição hegemônica da TV (Willians, 2017; Britos, 1999) e o debate sobre enquadramento noticioso. O corpus de análise compreende 4 edições do JN,, num total de 13 reportagens, mesclando análise de conteúdo (Bardin, 2011) e análise de enquadramento (Porto, 2001; Goffman, 1986; Motta, 2003).

Abstract In 1974, Winfried Fauser published his edition of Radulphus Brito’s commentary on the third book of Aristotle’s De anima. This contribution continues his project by providing an edition of Brito’s commentary on the first book and the first third of the second book. An analysis of this part of the commentary shows that Brito developed some original views that had an impact on the fourteenth-century commentary tradition.

This article establishes the context for the original publication of Ronaldo Brito's pioneering 1975 essay, “Neo-concretism Apex and Rupture of the Brazilian Constructive Project” in the third and last issue of the Rio de Janeiro-based art journal Malasartes. It argues that Brito's text was a concerted effort to intervene within the determining logic of what the author and others termed “the circuit,” that is, the conjunction of protagonists, operations, and effects that produce and reproduce “the art world.” In this sense, Brito's essay was nothing less than a discursive rejoinder to the provocation of Cildo Meireles's seminal conceptual work Insertions Into Ideological Circuits (1970–75), likewise published in Malasartes. Brito not only provided the first political and structural analysis of the Neo-concrete movement as a localized response to a transnational field of constructive practices, he advanced a model of critical art history that realigned theoretical production with ideological critique.

The summer of2000 saw yet another movie reduce the American Revolution to a cliched battle between virtuous Patriots and wicked Englishmen. As a Briton who teaches early American history, I have always approached the subject of the Revolution dressed in combat gear of my own. I carefully elaborate on the complexities of the imperial crisis and war, while my students listen politely, even sympathetically. They then tell me in their exams how "we" beat the evil Brits who were oppressing "our" freedoms.

Abstract:
In galvanic corrosion, the maximum distance from the periphery of the cathode to the anode is often defined as the throwing power. It dictates the surface area of the cathode involved in the galvanic corrosion and is also related to the extent of the accelerated anodic reaction. Therefore, its estimation is of great interest and importance in engineering applications, such as fastener and panel assembly [1], metal coatings [2], buried metallic structures [3], etc. Throwing power may be estimated experimentally by measuring the solution potential variation in close proximity to the electrode surface (Es) or through modelling, such as finite element analysis (FEA), provided the boundary conditions (polarization characteristics) are correctly determined. In this work, we investigated the throwing power for the Cu-to-carbon steel galvanic couple in the presence of bentonite clay, a scenario that could arise in the vicinity of a through-coating defect in the Canadian-designed nuclear waste container. Using a homemade micro-reference electrode array coupled to a Multichannel Microelectrode Analyzer (MMA), Es was measured simultaneously in 10 locations as a function of time in 0.1 M NaCl solution with and without bentonite clay, Fig. 1. Transient potential peaks were found when bentonite clay was added to the solution and are attributed to the increased galvanic activities driven by the reduction of air-formed Cu oxides. We further investigated this phenomenon using FEA. Boundary conditions were established experimentally under circumstances reflecting the actual surface states, i.e., with or without Cu oxides. Simulations were conducted considering secondary current distribution, using the appropriate boundary conditions. The obtained results match well with the experimental measurements, including the peak and the stable Es. Additionally, the dynamic change of the throwing power due to the evolution of the surface state was investigated through simulation and discussed. Reference [1] R.S. Marshall, A. Goff, C. AbstractThis article discusses a not well-known funerary monument commemorating a centurion of British descent. IGLS 13.1.9188 records the centurion, T. Quintius Petrullus, ‘from Britain’, of the Third Cyrenaican Legion, who died aged 30 at Bostra in Arabia. This was a young age for a centurion and the article suggests that he had entered the army by a direct commission rather than risen through the ranks. Accordingly, he is likely to have belonged to a high-status family. The Bostra appointment was probably his first. The appointment is put into context alongside other similar equestrian career paths and the Jewish War during the reign of Hadrian is proposed as a possible occasion for the posting. In addition, the article examines this Briton alongside other Britons abroad.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on women from the ancient society and their studies, especially from Britannia. This work is made up of Romans and Britons women, who composed different costumes, which interspersed, which lived there and which were in some way evidenced by written and/or material vestiges. This was not a homogenous group, both for the population that had already lodged there and for the one that came later, there was a great variety of ideas about their status and how they should lead their lives. Materials on Roman and Briton have already been found epigraphically, on altars, tombstones and burials. However, this work will compare these first sources with the work of Tacitus, Annals, since this author always seems to place women with pejorative characteristics, very different from the loving and amorous words given to them in these places of death.

This study intends to approach the constitution of symbolic Power and of current politic of families Brito and Gaudêncio in Cariris Velhos between 1930 and 1960. Considering that the events happened that to beginning of movement of 1930 caused breaking in the administration plan of Brazilian estates, but also expressed of oligarchy politic permanent. The case of Brito and Gaudencio´s families is an example of adaptation of oligarchy after 1930. The divergence between two families favored to formation of identity of São João do Cariri and the Serra Branca. So, beginning to analyze of politic culture oligarchy in home family, understanding the building of history culture of two town. Understanding he history culture was building by area societies local, that apprehend area of concentration of regional history. This way like theory fundament using the idea of politic culture and symbolic power like mechanician to understand as way of power used by two families. The fountain used approach to research in newspaper, reports spoken, officer documents and works of history paraibana.
Esse estudo pretende abordar a constituição do poder simbólico e da atuação política das famílias Brito e Gaudêncio nos Cariris Velhos, entre 1930 e 1960. Consideramos que os eventos ocorridos a partir do Movimento de 1930 provocaram rupturas no plano administrativo do Estado brasileiro, mas também manifestaram permanências da política oligárquica. O caso das famílias Britos e Gaudêncios é um exemplo da readaptação das oligarquias pós-1930. As divergências entre as duas famílias contribuíram para a formação da identidade de São João do Cariri e de Serra Branca. Assim, a partir da análise da cultura política oligárquica no seio familiar, percebemos a construção da cultura histórica das duas cidades. Compreendemos a cultura histórica construída por campos sociais locais, que apreende a área de concentração de História Regional. Desta forma, como fundamentação teórica, utilizamos os conceitos de cultura política e poder simbólico como mecanismo para se entender as formas de poder utilizadas pelas duas famílias. As fontes utilizadas foram construídas em pesquisa em jornais, relatos orais, documentos oficiais e obras da historiografia paraibana.

Abstract:
Camadas granulares têm um importante papel no comportamento global de estruturas de pavimentos, especialmente quando possuem revestimentos delgados ou não possuem revestimento. Para estabelecer métodos de projeto mais eficientes e critérios construtivos, é necessário que a resposta das camadas granulares sob a ação do tráfego seja bem compreendida e levada em consideração. Assim, esta dissertação relata resultados de uma pesquisa sobre o comportamento quanto à resistência ao cisalhamento e deformações permanentes de três britas (uma graduada e duas uniformes com diferentes tamanhos máximos de partícula). Foram realizados ensaios triaxiais estáticos e dinâmicos obtendo-se os parâmetros de resistência de Mohr-Coulomb, módulos de Young, módulos de resiliência e o comportamento quanto a deformações permanentes. Para a brita graduada, desenvolveu-se um estudo complementar sobre o efeito do grau de compactação (90% e 100%) no seu comportamento mecânico. Uma observação conjunta dos resultados estáticos e dinâmicos associada a uma análise mecanística proporciona uma visão global dos resultados obtidos. A brita graduada, com grau de compactação de 100%, mostrou-se um agregado de excelente qualidade, apresentando bom comportamento quanto a deformações permanentes e elevada resistência ao cisalhamento, porém os seu módulos de resiliência foram apenas razoáveis Surpreendentemente, a granulometria uniforme com menor “tamanho máximo de agregado” apresentou um bom comportamento mecânico, porém devido aos seus baixos módulos de resiliência, não pode ser utilizada como camada de base. O seu uso fica restrito a pavimentos permeáveis sob tráfego de veículos leves, conforme demonstrado pelos resultados do monitoramento de um estacionamento experimental analisado nesta dissertação. As britas: uniforme com maior “tamanho máximo de agregado”(GU2) e graduada (GG1) com grau de compactação de 90%, apresentaram baixa resistência ao cisalhamento e alta deformabilidade plástica, comprometendo o seu uso como camada de base. De forma geral, foi confirmada a influência do grau de compactação e da granulometria no comportamento mecânico de materiais granulares. Nem o Índice de Suporte Califórnia e nem a resistência ao cisalhamento mostraram-se bons indicativos do comportamento de materiais granulares quanto a deformações permanentes.

PROGRAMA DE SUPORTE À PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO DE INSTS. DE ENSINO
Citado brevemente nos compêndios de história literária, o pioneiro editor Francisco de Paula Brito (1809-1861) é a personagem principal desta tese. Trata-se de deslocar o secundário ao plano principal, ou seja, de alçar o fundo à figura, para se observar literatura e história com base em uma perspectiva que considera suas condições materiais de produção e circulação. Partimos da premissa de que a instalação tardia de uma sistema comunicativo baseado na imprensa no início do século XIX teve consequências para as definições dos contornos do literário no Brasil. Foi esse atraso o que condensou imultaneamente três diferentes aspectos da atividade de edição – o capital, a autonomia intelectual e a voz – na figura de Paula Brito. Para descrever cada um desses aspectos, consultamos, além de textos históricos, periódicos e obras publicados à época. Com essa pesquisa não buscamos isolar cada um dos aspectos que caracterizam a edição, mas demonstrar que foi seu entrelaçamento, por vezes contingencial, o que promoveu a presença da escrita e da literatura no cotidiano da corte. É importante destacar que, apesar de utilizarmos as figurações do editor para estruturar a tese, Paula Brito transitava livremente por todas as funções do mundo letrado, e foi seu caráter múltiplo e ambíguo o que nos permitiu traçar relações entre atividades e conceitos aparentemente distantes como o tipógrafo e o autor, o manual e o intelectual, o corpo e o significado. Nesse sentido é exemplar a existência da Petalogica, sociedade litero-humorística em cujos registros observamos relações paradoxais que desenham um conflito produtivo na busca pelas fronteiras entre literário e não literário.
Briefly mentioned in textbooks of literary history, the pioneering publisher Francisco de Paula Brito (1809-1861) is the main character of this thesis. The focus on his figure is a way to observe literature and history from a perspective that considers its material conditions of production and circulation. We start from the premise that belated installation of a communication system based on the press just on the beginning of nineteenth century had consequences for the definitions of the contours of the literary in Brazil. It was this delay which simultaneously condensed three different aspects of edition – capital, intellectual autonomy and voice – in the figure of Paula Brito. Aiming to describe each of these aspects we consulted historical texts, journals and articles published at the time. The research did not seek to isolate each of these aspects, but to show that contingencial interweaving between them promoted the presence of writing and literature in everyday Brazilian court. Although we use the figurations of the editor to structure the thesis, it is important to say that Paula Brito passed through freely by all functions of the literate world, and it was precisely its multiple and ambiguous character which allowed us to draw relationships between seemingly distant concepts and activities as typographer and author, intellectual and manual, body and meaning. Is exemplary in this sense the existence of Petalogica, literaryhumorous society where we could observe paradoxical relationships that draw a productive conflict in the search for boundaries between literary and non-literary.

Abstract:
This thesis explores the life stories of four men who were deported from the UK to Jamaica following interaction with the criminal justice system. All four men, having moved as children, spent roughly half of their lives in the UK. For each of the men, deportation was lived as exile from home - from parents, partners, children and friends - and the thesis provides portraits of their lives in the UK and in Jamaica. In particular, it examines processes of criminalisation, illegalisation and racialisation as they interact to construct deportable subjects. This thesis asks what these life stories can tell us about the relationship between immigration control and racism. Fieldwork was conducted in Jamaica with deported persons, and in the UK with friends and family members. As such, this is an ethnography of absences and disjunctures. In the ethnographic portraits, themes of illegality, culture, gender, police racism, citizenship, and the legal construction of family life emerge, and reading the portraits together provides a rich account of racism in multi-status Britain. Ultimately, the thesis argues that immigration controls reconfigure race in the present. Moving from the UK to Jamaica, the thesis argues that borders produce racial meanings at local, national and global scales, because racial hierarchy is intimately connected to citizenship regimes and the differential mobilities they organise. Examining the racial work that borders do provides a historically specific account of race and racism, and one which centres the state. The thesis argues that even the most local of encounters, played out in particular lives, in specific times and places, are connected to the ordering of space, mobility and population through border regimes. It also argues that when challenging citizenship and border regimes, it is essential that we find new ways to theorise kinship. Based on detailed ethnographic portraits, this thesis provides a wide-ranging intervention into studies of race, migration and citizenship.

Abstract:
Within the context of natural language processing, a lemmatiser is one of the most important core technology modules that has to be developed for a particular language. A lemmatiser reduces words in a corpus to the corresponding lemmas of the words in the lexicon. A lemma is defined as the meaningful base form from which other more complex forms (i.e. variants) are derived. Before a lemmatiser can be developed for a specific language, the concept "lemma" as it applies to that specific language should first be defined clearly. This study concludes that, in Setswana, only stems (and not roots) can act independently as words; therefore, only stems should be accepted as lemmas in the context of automatic lemmatisation for Setswana. Five of the seven parts of speech in Setswana could be viewed as closed classes, which means that these classes are not extended by means of regular morphological processes. The two other parts of speech (nouns and verbs) require the implementation of alternation rules to determine the lemma. Such alternation rules were formalised in this study, for the purpose of development of a Setswana lemmatiser. The existing Setswana grammars were used as basis for these rules. Therewith the precision of the formalisation of these existing grammars to lemmatise Setswana words could be determined. The software developed by Van Noord (2002), FSA 6, is one of the best-known applications available for the development of finite state automata and transducers. Regular expressions based on the formalised morphological rules were used in FSA 6 to create finite state transducers. The code subsequently generated by FSA 6 was implemented in the lemmatiser. The metric that applies to the evaluation of the lemmatiser is precision. On a test corpus of 1 000 words, the lemmatiser obtained 70,92%. In another evaluation on 500 complex nouns and 500 complex verbs separately, the lemmatiser obtained 70,96% and 70,52% respectively. Expressed in numbers the precision on 500 complex and simplex nouns was 78,45% and on complex and simplex verbs 79,59%. The quantitative achievement only gives an indication of the relative precision of the grammars. Nevertheless, it did offer analysed data with which the grammars were evaluated qualitatively. The study concludes with an overview of how these results might be improved in the future.

Abstract:
The creation and subsequent access to accurate information is widely accepted as a vital component of a national radioactive waste management strategy. Information on the origin and quantity of the waste together with its physical, chemical and radiological characteristics provides a catalyst for sound and transparent decision making. This information will originate from a number of potentially disparate sources, including material manufacturers, facility operators, waste producers, Government and Non-Government organisations and regulators. The challenge to those with a role in information management in further increased by the fact that much of the information created is required to support activities, not only in the immediate future, but also in the longer-term — typically many decades or even centuries. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has published a number of guidance documents under the Safety Series, one of which makes direct reference to information management. The document [1] is intended to assist Member States in the development of a national system for radioactive waste management and identifies the key responsibilities and essential features of such a system. The following statement appears in Section 5: “The regulatory body, the waste generators and the operators of radioactive waste management facilities should maintain documentation and records consistent with the legal requirements and their own needs.” An essential requirement of these ‘documents and records’ is that they should be “...kept in a condition that will enable them to be consulted and understood later by people different from, and possibly without reference to, those who generated the records ...” The scope of the documentation and records to be kept will be wide ranging but will include “...an inventory of radioactive waste, including origin, location, physical and chemical characteristics, and, as appropriate a record of radioactive waste removed or discharged from a facility”, and “site plans, engineering drawings, specifications and process descriptions ... radioactive waste package identification ...”. It is has long been recognised in the United Kingdom that the management of radioactive waste will require the assembly and secure retention of a diversity of records and data. This information will be needed to inform the strategic decision making process, thus contributing to the future safe, environmentally sound and publicly acceptable management of radioactive waste. In the meantime it will also service the nation’s international commitments. When the planning application for a Rock Characterisation Facility (RCF) was refused and the subsequent Nirex appeal rejected in 1997, it was recognised that transfer of waste to a national repository was ulikely to take place for many decades. The long-term preservation of information by the waste management organisations thus became an issue. Since this time, the UK nuclear industry, including the waste producers, regulators and other Government Departments have worked together to develop a common information management system that is now being implemented. It is based on an Oracle database and is supported by ‘electronic tools’ designed to facilitate entry and retrieval of data in a common format. Long-term access to these data underpins many aspects of the system design. Designing such a system and seeing through its development has been a challenge for all those involved. However, as the project nears the completion of the development phase, it is clear there are several benefits in this approach. These include a sharing of best practice, shared development costs, an improved understanding of the needs of all parties, and the use of a common platform and tools. The ‘partnership approach’ between waste management organisations, Government departments and regulators will also reduce the likelihood of future surprises or conflicts of interest. Industry-wide co-operation also provides a greater degree of confidence that the system will continue to enjoy technical and financial support for the foreseeable future. The British Radwaste Information Management System (BRIMS) is supported by the principal waste producers, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) and United Kingdom Nirex Limited (Nirex). All organisations that have participated in its development over the past seven years have free access to it and may use it as part of their waste management strategy.
