A method is presented to simplify Bragg coherent X-ray diffraction imaging studies of complex heterogeneous crystalline materials with a two-stage screening/imaging process that utilizes polychromatic and monochromatic coherent X-rays and is compatible within situsample environments. Coherent white-beam diffraction is used to identify an individual crystal particle or grain that displays desired properties within a larger population. A three-dimensional reciprocal-space map suitable for diffraction imaging is then measured for the Bragg peak of interest using a monochromatic beam energy scan t

Narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) is one of the few classes of active galactic nuclei harboring powerful relativistic jets and detected in γ-rays. NLS1s are well-known X-ray sources. While in non-jetted sources the origin of this X-ray emission may be a hot corona surrounding the accretion disk, in jetted objects, especially beamed ones, the contribution of corona and relativistic jet is difficult to disentangle without a proper sampling of the hard X-ray emission. For this reason, we observed with NuSTAR the first four NLS1s detected at high energy γ-rays. These data, along with XMM-Newt

A new modification of a table-top laser-driven water-jet plasma X-ray source has been successfully implemented and commissioned at the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) Beamlines user facility. In order to preserve the broadband nature of the source for spectroscopic experiments, a polycapillary lens was initially chosen as the focusing element. Generally, polycapillary X-ray optics have a narrow photon acceptance angle and small field of view, making alignment complicated and time-consuming. This contribution demonstrates a straightforward, reliable and reproducible procedure for aligning po

Most galaxies in the sample are luminous infrared galaxies (LIGs) and nearly half of them are ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIGs) with bolometric luminosities comparable to QSOs. Based on multiwavelength data and numerical simulations of gas-rich galaxy mergers, we have attempted to arrange them in a merger sequence perspective and compared their broadband X-ray emission here with the optical images

The exploration of radio emission from the relativistic jets of X-ray binaries has become key to understanding accretion onto compact objects. Upgrades to existing radio telescope arrays have improved the ability of these instruments to detect faint sources and their unique behaviours. This thesis concerns with the study of X-ray binaries which are gravitationally bound systems consisting of a compact object (either a neutron star or a black hole) and usually a non degenerate companion star, both rotating around the common centre of mass. The compact star shines brightly in the X-ray regime. Emission from these systems are powered by accretion which is the most radioactively efficient mechanism known in the universe by the release of gravitational potential energy when matter from the companion star falls on the compact object. Liquid sprays play a key role in many engineering processes (e.g., food processing, coating and painting, 3D printing, fire suppression, agricultural production, combustion systems, etc.). Spray characteristics can easily be assessed in the mid- and far-field regions, well after liquid sheet breakup and droplet formation, using various optical/laser diagnostic techniques. The conditions in the near-field region, near the spray nozzle exit, can influence mid- and far-field characteristics; however, near-field measurements are extremely challenging because the spray in this region is typically o
