Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the influence of organic matter from different sources on the yield of winter wheat and macroelements content in it. The experiment was carried out in stoneware pots sank into the ground filled up with 56.4 kg of soil: Haplic Luvisols formed from loamy sand. The soil was slightly acidic. The soil was mixed up with liquid form of salts: Cd(NO3)2, Pb(CH3COO)2 and ZnSO4. To the soil a brown coal preparation, so called “Rekulter”, brown coal, peat and farmyard manure were applied in the amount of 180, 140, 390 and 630 g per pot, which is equivalent to 5 Mg of organic carbon per ha. Winter wheat Triticum aestivum ssp. vulgare (L.) for grain was cultivated. The manurial value of organic substance originated from different sources expressed as the plants' crop was the highest for Rekulter and the lowest for peat. The addition of organic substance to soil contaminated with heavy metals causes the higher content of potassium, magnesium and nitrogen in winter wheat's grain. The content of calcium and sodium in winter wheat grain's did not depend from addition of organic matter to soil. Organic matter added into contaminated soil increased the uptake of main macroelements by winter wheat straw. Organic matter fertilization broadened the K: (Ca + Mg) ratio in grain and straw.

Abstract:
Glazes is a layer of vitreous substance, which is combined to ceramic object through a firing process. The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential of Ibai River sediment as raw material for producing ceramic glazes. Minerals and heavy metal in sediment have been characterized using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Glazes formulation has been studied by adding CaCO3 and stoneware into the sediment at different compositions. Glazes sample was tested for chemical resistance and thermal shock resistance. The AAS results show that sediment contains high Fe content of 65.5000 ppm while amount of Cr, Co and Pb are less than 0.4850 ppm. XRF analysis shows that the presence of important minerals in sediment, which is commonly found in commercial glazes formulation and contributes to formation of good glazes. Matte glazes can be obtained by using only sediment while shiny glaze can be obtained by adding CaCO3 to the sediment as fluxs. High concentration of iron in sediments contributed to brown or reddish brown in color of glazes products. The results show that the glazes produced has chemical resistance towards acids and high thermal shock resistance. As a conclusion, the Ibai River sediment is highly suitable to supply abundant and cheap raw materials for producing decorative ceramic glaze for small-scale ceramic industry in Terengganu, which generate new economic source for local community.

Abstract:
Abstract The riots against a New York City police raid at the Stonewall Inn bar in June, 1969, are often identified as having sparked the movement for LGBT rights, and the commemoration of the riots one year later in June, 1970, inaugurated a series of annual LGBT Pride events that continues to this day worldwide. In this two-part Forum, we reflect on the contradictory effects of Stonewall’s international legacy. Which facts or legends are celebrated and which are marginalized fifty years later? How has the sign ‘Stonewall’ come to inspire and/or sideline other resistances as the US event became appropriated globally? In this first part of the Forum, Silva and Jacobo consider how trans women of colour in the Global South have pursued the struggle of the pioneering trans women activists in New York City and engaged the history of Stonewall beyond the United States, negating the whitewashing of discourse on the riots by hegemonic cis gay men and cis lesbian women of the movement, even in their respective nations, Brazil and the Philippines. This forum contribution pays tribute to black and brown trans persons whose bodies had been thought of as monstrous in the heart of empire and elsewhere, where empire remains. The authors together aspire to think the planet from their coordinates: south by south, trans for trans. From the sisterhood they forged, these two trans women from Rio de Janeiro and Manila, imbricated in their wounds but bound together by a will to heal, theorize resistance and reexistence as women in a decolonial, transfeminist present.

Clark, Sarah. "THE POPULAR IMAGES OF JOHN BROWN AND THOMAS "STONEWALL" JACKSON." Master's thesis, University of Central Florida, 2007. http://digital.library.ucf.edu/cdm/ref/collection/ETD/id/3816.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the evolution of the popular images of John Brown and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. It begins by analyzing the historiography of each man. The second and third chapters are biographies of each man. The fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters examine the popular images of the two men in print media, visual media, and monuments. This thesis concludes with appendices which contain reproductions of songs, photographs, and paintings referred to in the chapters. This study finds that the myth of the Lost Cause has kept Thomas Jackson's popular image consistently positive and heroic since his death in 1863. At the same time, this myth has contributed to an ever-changing image of Brown, though other issues, such as race and terrorism, have played significant roles as well. Brown has at various times been considered a madman, a saint, and merely a product of his times. Because the Lost Cause continues to pervade popular memory of the Civil War, Jackson's image is unlikely to change quickly. Because race and the fear of terrorism continue to pervade American society, Brown's image is likely to remain controversial.
