Abstract:
The freshwater shrimp family Kakaducarididae Bruce, 1993 is revised and its familial status reappraised using morphological characters and the results of a complementary molecular study (Page et al. 2008). Based on combined morphological–molecular data, the Kakaducarididae is synonymised with the Palaemonidae Rafinesque, 1815 and the monotypic genus Kakaducaris Bruce, 1993 is synonymised with Leptopalaemon Bruce & Short, 1993. The Texan cave shrimp, Calathaemon holthuisi (Strenth, 1976), provisionally included in the Kakaducarididae by Bruce (1993), is re-assigned back to the Palaemonidae. Leptopalaemon is re-diagnosed and three new species, L. gibbosus, sp. nov., L. gudjangah, sp. nov. and L. magelensis, sp. nov., are described from the north-western edge of the Arnhem Land plateau/escarpment complex, Northern Territory, Australia. The two previously described species, L. gagadjui Bruce & Short, 1993 and L. glabrus (Bruce, 1993), comb. nov. are re-diagnosed. A key to the five presently recognised Leptopalaemon species is provided.

Abstract:
Bruce birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) is a 71-clone synthetic variety developed at the Nappan Research Farm, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Nappan, Nova Scotia. Bruce was developed through two cycles of mass selection for plant vigour (top and root growth) and winterhardiness, and one cycle of mass selection for re-growth vigour under grazing. In Atlantic Canada, Bruce produced more forage than the check cultivar Leo during 3 post-seeding years. It was also superior in spring growth with high first-cut herbage yields. Abstract:
We compared maximal exercise parameters obtained using both a ramped Bruce (BR) and a standard Bruce treadmill protocol (BS) in 44 healthy children (9.9 – 1.9 yr) and adolescents (15.9 – 1.7 yr). The average weight and height for children was 36.7 – 10.7 kg and 141.2 – 13.2 cm, while for adolescents was 64.4 – 13.9 kg and 168.9 – 7.5 cm. No significant differences were found in peak heart rate (HRpeak) between protocols for children (BS: 198 – 10; BR: 196 – 11 bpm) or adolescents (BS:193 – 2; BR:192 – 11 bpm). Peak oxygen uptake (V̇O2peak) was also not significantly different for children (BS: 1.81 – 0.64; BR: 1.84 – 0.74 L/min) or adolescents (BS: 2.66 – 0.61; BR: 2.72 – 0.67 L/min). Based on our results, we conclude that equivalent peak HR and V̇O2 values can be obtained in normal children and adolescents using a standard or a ramped Bruce protocol.

Full text
Abstract:
Three new species of the genus Laomenes A.H. Clark are described as symbionts of feather stars (Crinoidea: Comatulida) from shallow waters of Nhatrang Bay, Vietnam. Including these new species, the genus comprises 8 species and can be arranged into 3 suggested groups of species. The “L. amboinensis” species group with 4 species, L. amboinensis (De Man, 1888), L. cornutus (Borradaile, 1915), L. clarki sp. nov. and L. pardus sp. nov., characterized by the presence of ventral rostral teeth, distoventral spines on propodus of pereiopod III and a fixed tooth on distolateral margin of uropodal exopod. The “L. jackhintoni” species group includes 2 species, L. jackhintoni (Bruce, 2006) and Laomenes tigris sp. nov., characterized by the absence of ventral rostral teeth, extremely elongated apical papilla on cornea of eyes, the presence of fixed tooth on exopod of uropod, the absence of distoventral spines on propodus and the presence of large accessory tooth on dactylus of pereiopod III. The “L. ceratophthalmus” species group includes 2 species, L. ceratophthalmus (Borradaile, 1915) and L. nudirostris (Bruce, 1968), characterized by the absence of ventral rostral teeth and distoventral spines on propodus of pereiopod III, the presence of small accessory tooth on dactylus of pereiopod III, tiny marginal dorsal spines on telson and the absence of a fixed distolateral tooth on exopod of uropod. Remarks and a key for all species of the genus as well as a discussion of the undescribed diversity of the genus are given.

Pucsok, József Márton, Gergely Ráthonyi, Katalin Varga, et al. "IDENTIFICATION OF SPECIFIC SELECTION CRITERIA IN YOUNG BALL SPORT PLAYERS." Stadium - Hungarian Journal of Sport Sciences 3, no. 2 (2021): 1–11. http://dx.doi.org/10.36439/shjs/2020/2/8595.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Our study aimed to analyze body composition and spiroergometric data of young (14-15 years) elite level ball sport players. We suggested three-ball sports (handball, soccer, and basketball) share common performance indicators, as rapid intermittent movements primarily characterize each ball sport.
Methods: We selected one-hundred and ten, handball (n=30), basketball (n=40), and soccer (n=40) players male and female from local clubs in Hungary. Seventy-nine males and thirty-one females participated in our study; their average age was 14.51 and 14.56, respectively.
They participated in laboratory testing; the protocol included a body composition analysis and spiroergometric tests. We measured body composition and physiological parameters utilizing an In Body 720 device and a standard Bruce treadmill protocol. Although we were aware of the Bruce protocol limitations in elite athletes, we choose this protocol as a safer alternative for younger inexperienced athletes.
Results and conclusions: We concluded that in young male soccer and basketball players, mean peak /load (W), peak/VE (l), peak/Vtex (l), peak/VO2 (ml/min), peak/VCO2 (ml/min), and peak/ O2 pulse (ml) data is a reliable indicator of the sport-specific performance. We may also suggest that in our male basketball and handball players' population, peak/Vtex (l) is the only variable, which is significantly different. Between groups of male handball and soccer players, peak/VO2/kg (ml/min) may be a valid performance indicator. Among female basketball and handball players, we found a significant difference in three performance variables: peak/Vtex (l), peak/VO2 (ml/min), and peak/ O2 pulse (ml).

Abstract:
Marine ornamental shrimps found in tropical coral reef waters are widely recognized for the aquarium trade. Our survey of ornamental shrimps in the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu (India) has found three species, which we identify as Stenopus hispidus Olivier, 1811, Lysmata debelius Bruce, 1983, and L. amboinensis De Man, 1888, based on morphology and color pattern. These shrimps are recorded for the first time in Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu. Detailed information, including the description of specimens, habitat and distribution, is provided.
