Hernández Gómez, María de los Ángeles. "La caricature sociale dans les albums de Jean Bruller : une Comédie humaine de l’entre-deux-guerres." Quêtes littéraires, no. 10 (December 30, 2020): 171–84. http://dx.doi.org/10.31743/ql.11541.

Full text
Abstract:

BOLLINO, MAURIZIO, MARCO ULIANA, and GUIDO SABATINELLI. "The Pygopleurus Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Glaphyridae) of mainland Greece: taxonomy, faunistics and ecological notes." Zootaxa 4674, no. 2 (2019): 151–202. http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.4674.2.1.

Full text
Abstract:
The present contribution revises the taxonomy of the Pygopleurus Motschulsky, 1860 species from the mainland Greece, introducing substantial changes to the last taxonomic work by Baraud (1989). Pygopleurus humeralis (Brullé, 1832) is recognized as a junior synonym of P. apicalis (Brullé, 1832). Specimens up to date identified as P. humeralis actually belong to five different taxa, of which two are new: P. brullei brullei Bollino, Uliana & Sabatinelli, new species and P. brullei taygetanus Bollino, Uliana & Sabatinelli, new subspecies, two are resurrected from synonymy: P. viridisuturatus (Reitter, 1903) from Greece, and P. isikdagensis (Petrovitz, 1963) from Turkey, and one species, P. bulgaricus (Nedelkov, 1905) is resurrected. Pygopleurus pseudopsilotrichius (Petrovitz, 1958) is resurrected from unwarranted synonymy with P. anemoninus (Brullé, 1832). Pygopleurus chrysonotus (Brullé, 1832) is removed from the synonymy with P. anemoninus and treated as senior synonym of Pygopleurus diffusus (Petrovitz, 1958). Pygopleurus anemoninus, P. chrysonotus and P. hirsutus (Brullé, 1832) are endemic to Greece, and absent from the fauna of Turkey. Previous records of these species from Turkey result from misidentifications. Neotypes of Pygopleurus chrysonotus and P. bulgaricus are designated. Neotype of Amphicoma apicalis designated by Baraud (1989) and lectotype of A. humeralis selected by Baraud (1989) in 1988 are considered invalid and set aside. For all species, ecological notes are presented and geographical distributions are mapped.

Tong, Wei, Hong Tao, and Xiquan Jiang. "Modeling the Rotation of Orthotropic Axes of Sheet Metals Subjected to Off-Axis Uniaxial Tension." Journal of Applied Mechanics 71, no. 4 (2004): 521–31. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/1.1755694.

Full text
Abstract:
A simplified version of a newly developed anisotropic plasticity theory is presented to describe the anisotropic flow behavior of orthotropic polycrystalline sheet metals under uniaxial tension. The theory is formulated in terms of the intrinsic variables of principal stresses and a loading orientation angle and its uniaxial tension version requires a non-quadratic stress exponent and up to five anisotropic material functions of the loading orientation angle to specify a flow condition, a flow rule for plastic strain rates, a flow rule for macroscopic plastic spin, and an evolution law of isotropic hardening. In this investigation, the proper analytical form and the associated parameter identification of the anisotropic material functions defining the flow rule of macroscopic plastic spin are discussed for sheet metals with persistent but rotated orthotropic symmetry axes under off-axis uniaxial tension. It is shown that the proposed flow rule of macroscopic plastic spin can successfully model the experimental data on the rotation of orthotropic symmetry axes in the three sheet metals reported, respectively, by Boehler et al. (Boehler and Koss, 1991, Advances in Continuum Mechanics, O. Bruller et al., eds., Springer, Heidelberg, pp. 143–158; Losilla, Boehler, and Zheng, 2000, Acta Mech. 144, pp. 169–183); Kim and Yin (1997, J. Mech. Phys. Solids 45, pp. 841–851); and Bunge and Nielsen (1997 Int. J. Plasticity 13, pp. 435–446).

Ammobates (Euphileremus) oraniensis (Lepeletier, 1841) and its host, Eucera dimidiata Brullé, 1832, in Crete (Hymenoptera, Apidae). - We here provide observations on the host relationships of the cleptoparasitic bee Ammobates (Euphileremus) oraniensis (Lepeletier 1841) in Crete (Greece). Our surveys on this greek island indicate that Eucera dimidiata Brullé 1832 (Hym. Apidae) is the primary host of A. oraniensis, and our observations suggest that nests of E. algira Brullé 1840 (Hym. Apidae) might also be parasitized by this cuckoo bee. A description of both sexes is provided, as well as photographs made in situ and a distribution map of our records.

Full text
Abstract:
Vicia brulloi, a new species from Peloritani range in NE Sicily, is described and illustrated. It is a perennial climbing liane linked to riparian woods, showing close relationship mainly with V. pisiformis, having a scattered European distribution. In particular, V. brulloi is a very rare and extremely localized species morphologically well distinct from V. pisiformis in several remarkable features, such as the dense indumentum covering the vegetative structures and calyces, the shape and size of flower pieces, pods, seeds, as well as seed testa micromorphology. Another relevant peculiarity of V. brulloi is the lower tooth of the calyx replaced by a green leafy appendix, character infrequent in legumes and hitherto never observed in other Vicia species, which clearly represents the residue of its ancestral foliar origin. The morphology, pollen grain and seed testa micromorphology, chromosome complement 2n = 2x = 12, seedling features, reproductive biology, biogeography, habitat, ecology, conservation status and taxonomic relationships of the new species are examined.

Abstract:
From examination of type specimens the authors establish that Rhinusa hispida sensu auctorum is not the same species as R. hispida (Brullé, 1832), which is instead synonymous with R. tetra (Fabricius, 1792) (syn. n.). Moreover, under the name R. hispida sensu auctorum two distinct taxa are confused, which can be distinguished from each other by taxonomic, biological and genetic differences: R. pilosa (Gyllenhal, 1838) and R. brondelii (Brisout, 1862), stat. n. (= R. lanuginosa (Wollaston, 1875), syn. n.). Gymnetron vulpes Lucas, 1849 (= G. marmota Fairmaire, 1883, syn. n.), previously placed under synonymy of R. hispida (Brullé), is transferred to the genus Mecinus and considered a distinct species. A neotype of G. pilosum brondelii Brisout and lectotypes of G. hispidum Brullé, G. pilosum Gyllenhal, G. vulpes Lucas and G. lanuginosum Wollaston are designated.

Abstract:
Brulle (2000) has noted the failure of the recent literature in critical theory to reflect the commitment of its founders to applying their philosophical and theoretical scholarship to create concrete social change. The authors have taken up the challenge to recover critical theory's “forgotten materialist component” and simultaneously responded to the call to reinvigorate the civic mission of the public university through efforts to integrate critical theory with community service learning and community-based research. The paper discusses historical, philosophical and theoretical issues in this effort and some reflections on our attempt to apply them in practice through the revitalization of the Center for Community Action and Research at Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg.

Abstract:
Abstract Herbaceous perennials were screened for increased branching and flowering in response to foliar sprays of cyclanilide (CYC), a plant growth regulator with cytokinin-like activity. Coreopsis verticillata ‘Creme Brulee’ (‘Crème Brulee’ coreopsis) and Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’ (‘Goldsturm’ coneflower), the only two species that responded positively to CYC, were used in subsequent experiments evaluating CYC concentration, method of application, and stage of plant development at application. Foliar sprays of 25 to 100 ppm CYC promoted increased shoot development, flowering, and plant width of coreopsis and coneflower, although flowering was delayed. Applying foliar sprays to both species when they were vegetative resulted in similar or more new shoots and flowers than an application when plants exhibited early signs of approaching flowering or at both stages. Increases in shoot counts from the application of substrate drenches of CYC to coreopsis and coneflower generally were less than from foliar sprays, while flower counts either decreased with increasing CYC concentration (coreopsis) or were unaffected (coneflower).
