Abstract:
Trichogramma bruni is an insufficienty studied South American species whose limits are still not well defined. Thus, the objective of the present study was to characterize T. bruni taxonomically and to determine the association between morphological variations as well as host and habitat, based on morphological and biological studies. Specimens from the Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" (ESALQ) collection, and from the University of California Riverside (UCR) and specimens collected from the vegetation of forest parks with native areas planted with eucalyptus in Piracicaba and Itatinga, State of São Paulo, were also analyzed. The holotype deposited at Univeridade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) collection was also examined. The variability in the genital capsule of T. bruni observed both among individuals of the same progeny and among specimens from different hosts is remarkable and is mainly related to the dorsal lamina. Therefore, an association of diagnostic characters rather than the dorsal lamina alone should be used for the identification of T. bruni and intraspecific variations should be considered. The intraspecific variation observed for T. bruni is a factor that should be considered for its identification, since the influence of the environment (habitat + host) and the variation among individuals itself is responsible for the plasticity observed in the genital capsule. Heliconius erato phyllis, Hamadryas feronia, Erosina hyberniata and Mechanitis lysiminia are new hosts of T. bruni.

Abstract:
In “On the Concept of ‘Felicitas Publica’ in Eighteenth-Century Political Economy,” a recent paper in this journal, Federico D’Onofrio strongly criticizes the interpretation that Luigino Bruni and Stefano Zamagni have offered of the eighteenth-century Neapolitan tradition of civil economy and public happiness, as articulated by Antonio Genovesi. D’Onofrio claims that Bruni and colleagues have not fully explored the political meaning of public happiness within eighteenth-century economics, and that Bruni unfairly criticized methodological individualism on the basis of the intrinsically social character of happiness. This paper is a reply to D’Onofrio.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines Leonardo Bruni's ideas on history writing, tracing their evolution from 1404 down to the latter half of 1443. It establishes that Bruni saw history writing as a textual activity closely related to, if not identical with, translation. The various implications of this discovery are explored in relation to several of Bruni's major historical works, including the Cicero novus (1415), the Commentarii de primo bello punico (1419), and the De bello italico (1441). The article concludes by showing how Bruni's views - in their final, extreme formulation - were challenged by his younger rival, Biondo Flavio, in the early 1440s.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThis study weighs the evidence for Leonardo Bruni's estrangement from the emerging Medici party (from the 1420s) and the Medici regime (from 1434). Bruni had ties to both the Mediceans and their oligarch opponents, although ties with the latter appear to be stronger, particularly in terms of Bruni's humanist relations. While Bruni stayed on as Chancellor of Florence when the Medici took over in 1434, some recent studies suggest that the Medicean government was making things difficult for him. The study finally reproduces a report from the Milanese Chancery of 1437 stating that Bruni will support a rebellion in Arezzo against Florence, which will result in the "destruction and ruin of the Florentines."

This work is composed of three phases : - an introduction about the author, leonardo bruni aretino (1370-1444); this humanist, born in arezzo, lived in florence during the first quattrocento. In order to thank him for being a good fellow, the city of toscany made him citizen and then chancellor of the republic, that is to say minister of foreign affairs. This introduction tried to characterize the place that this personnality occupied in the context of italian renaissance, in the tradition of the great florentine humanists as petrarch and salutati, and of a more ancient master, cicero ; he wasn't an innovator in philosophy, but, as actor engaged in politics, he used to be a fervent defender of civic humanism ; both latinist and hellenist, he brang an important contribution to the thought about philology and translation : lastly, his knowledge of ancient historians enabled him to renew this science at the beginning of the quattrocento. - a translation of leonardo bruni's latin and exemplary works : a praise oration of florence, the oratio de laudibus florentinae urbis, a dialogue composed in the ciceronian tradition, the dialogus ad petrum paulum histrum, two biographies, the cicero novus and the vita aristotelis, an educational treatise written for a woman, the de studiis et litteris liber, and a summary of the aristotle's nicomachean ethics, the isagogicon moralis disciplinae. - lastly, commentary notes which propose to link those texts of the first humanism to ancient literature and that one of his own time

Abstract:
This work is the critical edition of Life of Dante, written by Leonardo Bruni in Florence in the may of 1436, with the Life of Petrarch as like a Plutarch's lives (Vite Parallele). Every life is an independent text, being together, at the same time, an unitary work, because the have a "Proemio" and a "Parallelo between Dante and Petrarch" which are like a frame for all the work. This is the first critical edition of brunian Dante's Life: the text has been edited more times from the editio princeps (1671), but never including an analysis of all the manuscripts. This critical edition is equipped with a commentary, the first has been published. At last, the work show all descriptions of the manuscripts.

Abstract:
AbstractLuigino Bruni and Robert Sugden have provided a normative defense of markets from a virtue ethics perspective. They interpret market exchange as being a practice in the sense of Alasdair MacIntyre. For Bruni and Sugden, the telos of a market is mutual benefit and a market virtue is a character trait or disposition that contributes to the realization of this benefit. They regard market virtues as embodying a moral attitude towards market interactions that is characterized by reciprocity. For MacIntyre, this is a partial account of a virtue. To qualify as a virtue, it is also necessary that it contributes to the good of an individual’s life taken as a whole and to the social tradition in which both practices and individuals are embedded. We adopt MacIntye’s understanding of a virtue and consider the extent to which Bruni and Sugden’s account of market virtues is compatible with respecting the fundamental human good of dignity in Kant’s sense of this term.

Abstract:
Manuscript Magliabechiano VIII.1445 of the Biblioteca Nazionale di Firenze seems to be the only witness of an epitaph that Poggio Bracciolini wrote for Coluccio Salutati. Using this concise yet sincere homage to the late chancellor, this essay discusses Poggio’s relationship both with him and the other major members of the Florentine humanist circle that started gathering around Salutati in the late fourteenth century. In doing so, it touches on such figures as – among others – Niccolò Niccoli and Leonardo Bruni. In particular, some early texts by Bruni (e.g., the Dialogi ad Petrum Paulum Histrum and his letters to fellow humanists dating from the early fifteenth century) are seen against the backdrop of his relationship with both Poggio and Salutati.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Multi-branch radial boreholes can be drilled and combined with hydraulic fracturing to efficiently stimulate tight gas reservoirs. This paper experimentally investigates how horizontal stress difference affects fracture geometry and breakdown pressure in multi-branch radial borehole fracturing by a true triaxial fracturing device. Six artificial rocks (395 mm × 395 mm × 395 mm) were cast for the experiments, which are divided into two groups by the azimuth of the radial borehole. The results show that fracture geometries are controlled by the rectification of a single radial borehole, the extrusion between the adjacent radial borehole row, and the deflection of the maximum horizontal stress. Fracture propagation is affected by the dynamic variation of the three effects. Decreasing the stress difference is favorable for fracture propagation along the radial borehole axis, while it lifts the breakdown pressure. Decreasing the azimuth lifts fracture extension distance parallel to the radial borehole axis and reduces the breakdown pressure. This research sheds light on the feasibility of radial borehole fracturing for reservoirs under various stress differences. INTRODUCTION Horizontal wells combining multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technology are commonly used to extract tight gas reservoirs. However, it still has the challenge that is the insufficient stimulation. Radial borehole fracturing is proposed recently, which combines the horizontal radial borehole with hydraulic fracturing (Huang et al., 2020a; Huang et al., 2020b; Kamel, 2016; Landers, 1998). This technology has the following procedure. Firstly, several radial boreholes, with diameters of no more than 50 mm, are drilled perpendicular to the axis of the vertical well. The fracturing fluid is then injected into the radial boreholes via the main well. After fracturing, the complex fracture network is generated in the reservoir finally. It has been applied in many fields with good effect (Bruni et al., 2007; Cinelli and Kamel, 2013; Cirigliano and Blacutt, 2007; Li et al., 2000; Maut et al., 2017; Ragab and Kamel, 2013). The multi-branch radial boreholes are favorable to communicating several sweet spots in the tight gas reservoir, which is also more economical than horizontal wells. So, radial borehole fracturing is anticipated to efficiently develop tight gas reservoirs or other unconventional reservoirs.

Abstract:

The 27km long Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge in Brunei (known as Temburong Bridge) is the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. The Temburong district was isolated from the rest of Brunei by the Malaysian state of Sarawak since 1890. The new bridge connects the district with the more developed Brunei-Muara district, improving connectivity and accessibility to goods and services, facilitating economic development and provides a 24-hour physical link, eliminating the need to go through two Malaysian borders, reducing journey time from 2 hours to 30 minutes.

The bridge was procured as a traditional engineer-design arrangement under various construction contracts. The bridge includes a 14km long marine viaduct across Brunei Bay, two concrete deck cable stayed bridges and a 12km long swamp forest viaduct. This bridge was opened early in 2020 to allow residents to travel to/from Temburong without crossing the Malaysian borders which were shut due to COVID. This paper focus on the innovation of the design and construction of the bridge and discuss the values they bring.

Full text
Abstract:
Tyson Foods, the nation’s largest meat and poultry producer, released hundreds of millions of pounds of pollutants from its slaughterhouses and processing plants into local waterways across the United States between 2018 and 2022. Water pollutants from Tyson plants pose a risk to people and the environment and include large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus. These nutrients feed algal blooms that clog water infrastructure, exacerbate asthma and other respiratory conditions, and contribute to dead zones that harm fish, shellfish, and people. Many of these facilities are also located close to federally defined critical habitats for endangered or threatened species. This analysis adds to a broader critique of Tyson Foods and the impact of this megacorporation on communities, consumers, farmers, and workers. Policymakers can reduce the damage Tyson causes by tightening wastewater pollution standards, better enforcing discharge limits, and cracking down on the corporate consolidation that enables Tyson’s excesses.

Abstract:
Although coal has powered the nation for generations and today offers well-paying jobs—often the best opportunities in more rural areas—coal negatively affects human health and the environment at every point in its life cycle: when it is mined, processed, transported, burned, and discarded (Freese, Clemmer, and Nogee 2008). Local communities— often low-income communities and/or communities of color—have for decades borne the brunt of these negative impacts, including air pollution, water pollution, and work- place injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
