Full textThis work is composed of three phases : - an introduction about the author, leonardo bruni aretino (1370-1444); this humanist, born in arezzo, lived in florence during the first quattrocento. In order to thank him for being a good fellow, the city of toscany made him citizen and then chancellor of the republic, that is to say minister of foreign affairs. This introduction tried to characterize the place that this personnality occupied in the context of italian renaissance, in the tradition of the great florentine humanists as petrarch and salutati, and of a more ancient master, cicero ; he wasn't an innovator in philosophy, but, as actor engaged in politics, he used to be a fervent defender of civic humanism ; both latinist and hellenist, he brang an important contribution to the thought about philology and translation : lastly, his knowledge of ancient historians enabled him to renew this science at the beginning of the quattrocento. - a translation of leonardo bruni's latin and exemplary works : a praise oration of florence, the oratio de laudibus florentinae urbis, a dialogue composed in the ciceronian tradition, the dialogus ad petrum paulum histrum, two biographies, the cicero novus and the vita aristotelis, an educational treatise written for a woman, the de studiis et litteris liber, and a summary of the aristotle's nicomachean ethics, the isagogicon moralis disciplinae. - lastly, commentary notes which propose to link those texts of the first humanism to ancient literature and that one of his own time

Abstarct: Brazil is the world's largest exporter of soybeans. Pest insects can cause great damage to production, mainly lepidopteran defoliators. Until the 1970s their control was based on the application of chemical insecticides that caused environmental damage and selection of resistant populations. To mitigate this situation, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) was implemented in Brazil, which prioritizes the use of selective insecticides, thus preserving the natural enemies. However in the last decades, the principles of IPM have been relegated by the producers, due to the increase of pests species, the difficulty in carrying out the samplings, use of transgenic varieties and, mainly due to lack of impartial assistance to the producer. Therefore, to better understand how the complex of lepidopteran pests and their parasitoids is currently composed, the present study aimed to assess their populations and to study the biology of a new species parasitizing eggs of Anticarsia gemmatalis . Thus, the study was divided in two chapters; in the first one surveys were carried out in two soybean areas in the Municipality of Lapa/PR, during the crop season of 2015/16. In one area, the practices recommended by IPM and planted with a conventional variety at the Agronomic Institute of Paraná were used. In the other area, the management of the producer was adopted using a transgenic variety, resistant to the herbicide glyphosate. The caterpillars were collected through the beat cloth method weekly between January and March 2016. The larval parasitoids were sampled from the caterpillars collected with the beat cloth method and manual collections. The egg parasitoids were collected from eggs laid by caged moths on plants kept in nylon cages. In field surveys the action level was not reached in both areas. In the conventional area the most abundant species was A. gemmatalis , which was controlled by natural enemies during the crop cycle. In the transgenic area, the Plusiinae complex predominated in all samplings, despite five applications of insecticides made in the area. Of the three different species of egg parasitoids found in the survey, Trichogramma bruni , is described for the first time in eggs of A. gemmatalis in Brazil. In the second chapter, from the individuals of T. bruni and T. pretiosum collected in the field, laboratory colonies were established and bioassays were carried out to compare the biology of the parasitoids in the eggs of the two main soybean pests, A. gemmatalis and Chrysodeixis includens . The following parameters were evaluated: number of parasitized eggs and of emerged adults, development time, number of parasitoids per egg, sex ratio, longevity and reproductive capacity. Trichogramma bruni was shown less effective to T. pretiosum for the parameters evaluated in the tested hosts. Both parasitizing species shown less preference to eggs of C. includens than those of A. gemmatalis . However, both species were able to parasitize these two key soybean pests. Full textThis thesis studies one of the most important personalities from the Castilian Crown, Alfonso de Palencia (1423-1492), chronicle of the Catholic Kings, and his translation of Plutarch’s Parallel Lives. The main purpose has been to connect straightaway Palencia’s deep interest in this Greek biographer with that one of the Italian Humanists and his scholar training in Florence and Rome. In fact, to complete his ambitious project, Palencia took as his main working text the Latin versions collected by Giovannantonio Campano and printed in Rome in 1470, with the title of Parallelae, sive Vitae illustrium virorum; More specifically, Palencia used the third edition of this corpus (Venice, Nicholas Jenson, 1478), with which I have shown the paratextual analogies and divergences among original and translation. The present work analyzes the translation methodology which Palencia and other Spanish authors from the XV century used to carry out their versions, proving how medieval methods of translation are different from those used by the Italian translators (mostly by Leonardo Bruni) and how the new translating practice spread to other European countries, such as the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, the creation of a glossary has been very helpful in order to objectify all data, such as the use of lexical paraphrases, binomials, Latinisms, patrimonial words, etc. For the first time, I have deepened in the reception of Palencia’s translation of Plutarch’s Lives in the Iberian Peninsula. One first census in Inventories and Libraries has shed light on a conspicuous number of exiting copies in the Castilian nobles’ libraries; nevertheless, several volumes glossed by readers from the early XVI century proof an active reading of the translation. The main part of this thesis is the bilingual critical edition of a selection of texts, originally written in Latin by Italian humanists, included in the Plutarch’s Latin edition, and translated by Alfonso de Palencia, namely, the Vita Aristotelis by Leonardo Bruni, Vita Platonis by Guarino Veronese, Vita Caroli Magni and Vitae Hannibalis et Scipionis by Donato Acciaiuoli.

Full textTwo types of adipose tissue are present in mammals, white and brown adipose tissue. White adipose tissue (WAT) is specialized in storage and release of lipids, and brown adipose tissue (BAT) is specialized in energy dissipation as heat through the mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1).In humans,thermogenically-competent brown adipose tissue is negatively associated with body mass index and diabetes. BAT is composed of two distinct types of thermogenic cells, classical brown adipocytes located in specific depots and brite adipocytes (brown-in white). In mice, these cells appear in WAT upon cold exposure and are protective against obesity-induced insulin resistance. Therefore, fighting obesity through "browning" of white adipose tissue emerges as a promising strategy. However, the ability of human white adipocytes to acquire a brown/brite phenotype is not yet understood. Here, we aimed at identifying the molecular and metabolic changes associated with the white-to-brown conversion of human mesenchymal adipose-derived stem (hMADS) cells following treatment by agonists of the nuclear receptor PPARgamma or PPARalpha. First, we demonstrated in vitro that PPARgamma or PPARalpha agonists similarly induce white-to-brown conversion of hMADS cells into brite adipocytes that possess high mitochondrial content and express UCP1. Second, we showed that browning is associated with profound metabolic changes. The lipolytic machinery and fatty acid re-esterification was stimulated by the two treatments, resulting in a futile cycle. These adaptations combined with an increase of fatty acid betaoxidation provide substrates to sustain the high level of mitochondrial thermogenesis. In contrast, glucose uptake and oxidation are decreased through inactivation of the pyruvate dehydrogenase by PDK4. Consequently, glucose-carbons are redirected towards glyceroneogenesis to provide the glycerol-3-phosphate backbone necessary for triglyceride esterification. Thus, brite adipocyte metabolism is modified to promote fatty acid utilization as the main energy source. In order to confirm the involvement of PPARalpha in inducing browning in vivo, we treated mice with inactivation of the PPARalpha gene with a beta3-adrenergic agonist. In subcutaneous WAT, expression of BAT- and brite-specific markers was lower in PPARalpha knock out than in wild type mice, confirming that PPARa is required for WAT browning. Altogether, this study shows that PPARgamma and PPARalpha activation in human white adipocytes promotes browning associated with an increase in fatty acid utilization without enhancement of glucose metabolism. These metabolic changes favor intra-adipose fatty acid utilization and thus could diminish plasma fatty flux for ectopic storage into insulin-sensitive tissues

Full textIn the Cap Bon peninsula, located in the north-eastern Tunisia, the forestation of the Menzel Belgacem's dunes constitutes one of the first attempt of forest creating during the French protectorate. From 1930, sands have been gradually stabilized and today the new forest came over the sand deposits. The Dar Chichou's forest, more than 6000 adjoining hectares, represents an striking example of Mediterranean dunal forest. Before all this study seek to draw up the balance sheet of the interventions conducted by the forest services from the beginning of the 20th century. The approach is based on the use of remote sensing data, compared with field information, for the build-up of a landscape units map. The Northern area of the Cap Bon, where the stamp of the coast is omnipresent, is characterized by a fast evolution of the natural habitat and by heavy landscapes changes. Many projects are planned and the society expectations are becoming insistent and often contradictory. Thus our thesis aim to analyse the changes assigned to the landscapes features. The comparison of georeferenced and multidate data allows to follow up the evolution of the rural landscape in the northern Cap Bon from 1900. It shows a sensitive change of the landscapes which illustrate itself by the progressive forestation of the large dunal sling of Dar Chichou. We endeavour to demonstrate the interest of such a methodology in reaching recommendation of new terms management able to fit the various functions of the forest habitat

This work is mainly aimed to investigate the associations of non-human and human in the composition of the collective philosophical bias contained in latourianas works: Type of Policy: How do science in democracy and Pandora's Hope: Essays on the reality of studies scientific. Having two specific objectives: to discuss the influence of political ecology Latourian the progressive composition of the team and investigate the contributions of relativistic empiricism, in order to have the understanding of scientific practices nowadays. We realize that Bruno Latour has built a relativist empiricism that, in general, rejects the separation between the ontological entities Nature and Culture as well as the separation between subject and object. All efforts are concentrated into question the idea of having a rigid separation between nature and society. The Latourian proposal, contained in amoderno agreement seeks to establish the exercise of the full dialogue between things and the other actors; and thereby defines the anthropocentric power in scientific practices, that democracy requires the political participation of all surfactants, since the proposals articulated in the collective are not derived solely from the logocentrism; but are engendered by / in the plots woven by humans and nonhumans. We realized that the iconoclastic gesture of modern, with which separated the collective in two dimensions: nature on one side and society on the other, was inefficient, why this split happened not because of the proliferation of hybrids on the way these dimensions, the mediation work. We can see that things are not silent, neither are subordinated to the logocentric authoritarianism of humans, even though their voices seem inaudible, things speak, weave well articulated propositions in parliament of things, as a way of composing the common world.

Full textThis study offers a view of the stylistic patterns defined by the analysis of the contrapuntal processes used in the third movement of Sonata I, Fuga e Toccata, and the final movement of Duas peças sérias [Two serious pieces], from the piano works of Bruno Kiefer. The fugue, one of the most well established linear techniques of musical writing, reflects the stylistic transformations in Western music. Considering the diversity of aesthetic possibilities in twentieth-century music, it is appropriate to investigate how Kiefer dealt with such a technique, preserving an innovating style in a consistent manner, which has always been attributed to his music. This study was guided by Twentieth Century Fugue – A Handbook (1962), by William Graves, Jr.. After the analysis of the recurrent patterns found in the fugues by Kiefer, a verification of how these patterns relate to traditional parameters of fugal writing was undertaken.

Full textThe thesis considers the philosophy of Giordano Bruno ( 1548-1600 ) since an essentiellemet ethical point of view. As such, the wisdom and the heroism are perceived as both practices bound to the double theoretical frame of the ontological monism and the unity of the links. So, the brunienne morality answers stakes connected to the reason and those, vert' différent, steered by the "poetic" intuition, in an infinite universe in act

Full textViennese-born bruno bettelheim, a jew, emigrates to the united states after having spent some time in nazi concentration camps, and settles as a psychoanalyst. On the clinical level, he is extremely influenced by his experience as a prisoner in dachau and buchenwald. In the american environment, he will make use of the various american interpretations of freud's theories ; he will, therefore, criticize psychoanalysis, which he will see as an insufficient theory to be developed and completed. In the end of his life, however, he will "come back" to freud. He was well-known for his remarkable empathy and the precision of his diagnoses, but he remained an empirical practitioner of psychoanalysis, theory being his weak point
