Grasslands in the rainshadow of the Chilcotin (British Columbia) and St. Elias (Kluane, Yukon) mountain ranges of western Canada are characterized by widely spaced clumps of bunchgrass and sage, between which can be found lichen-dominated biological soil crusts (BSC). Our examination of Chilcotin and Kluane grasslands showed differential BSC development along topographic gradients, favoring those sites with lower levels of soil disturbance. Lichen species richness was greatest in upper topographic positions, that is, on valley side terraces in the Chilcotin and esker slopes in Kluane. Common B

Physical exercise physiological index monitoring has a wide range of applications in the fields of physiological index planning and design and organizational network evolution. Among the existing analysis methods for monitoring data points of physical exercise physiological indicators, the analysis error of point events under linear constraints is relatively large. Background. Over the years, the concern over bone health deterioration in children with Neurological Disabilities (ND) has caught the interest of the research community. As the current traditional exercise methods are considered too challenging for children with ND, it is essential to seek effective rehabilitation programs with minimum difficulties and movement restrictions for children with disabilities, ultimately improving their muscle and bone health. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the potential application of Whole-body Vibration Training (WBVT) as a beneficial and effect

Abstract Approximately 90% of beef cattle on feed in the U.S. receive an anabolic implant to improve production. The mechanisms implants operate through to improve growth have not been deciphered. Estradiol (E2) is one of the primary hormones found in anabolic implants. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of E2 on mRNA abundance of genes associated with skeletal muscle growth in proliferating and fused bovine satellite cells (BSC). To accomplish this, BSC were isolated from six backgrounded steers and cultured. Proliferation experiments used BSC cultures grown to 75% confl

We used a realist approach, with embedded stakeholder engagement, within a large health organization. We conducted interviews (n = 27), a survey (n = 279) and organization documentation review (n = 44). The final programme theory suggests HCPs implement BSC when they value it as part of their role in contributing to improved patient outcomes; this is due to personal

The [CO2] in BSC is likely to be low when PEPcase is inhibited by 3,3-dichloro-2-dihydroxyphosphinoylmethyl-2-propenoate (DCDP), but Rubisco is still functional. The degree of C4 photosynthesis can be assessed by decreased A and the conductance of BSC walls by the slope of A versus [CO2] during application of DCDP.
