Abstract:
The British Film Institute (BFI) has been collecting documentation and ephemera relating to the cinema since its own inception in 1933. These collections have grown into a valuable resource for the researcher into cinema and television history, as well as reflecting artistic trends prevailing at the time of production. Although modest when set beside the posters, stills, designs and museum objects held at the BFI, the collections of press or campaign books and general ephemera should not be overlooked.

Abstract The article provides an analysis of the public forms of inheriting the memory of General Rudolf Maister at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia and in the Slovenian Armed Forces. It investigates how Maister's military career is reflected in the iconography of publicly exposed works of art in a physical form, the naming of objects and recognitions, as well as in ceremonial rituals. Based on the evaluation of the most common forms of public remembrance, it provides a conclusion as to how tangible this collective remembrance actually is, which seeks to maintain and promote a favourable attitude towards this Slovenian military strategic leader owing to whom an important part of Slovenian national territory today forms a part of the Republic of Slovenia. Key words General Rudolf Maister, military strategic leader, Slovenian military history, heroism, public representations.

Abstract:
Abstract The reform of the doctoral student education system, resulting in a departure from conducting third degree studies in favour of doctoral schools, resulted in changes in the field of social security law. The status of a doctoral student receiving a doctoral scholarship has become independent grounds for compulsory retirement, disability and accident insurance. At the same time, it is the basis for voluntary sickness insurance. The author criticises the granting of doctoral students the right to acquire cover under this type of insurance. Their actual situation when receiving a doctoral scholarship is far different from the situation of other persons (grounds) covered by sickness insurance. The author also discusses the issue of coincidences of grounds for social insurance of doctoral students. The legislator categorised the collection of a doctoral scholarship in the group of absolute grounds for insurance. Unfortunately, it omitted in the regulation of Art. 9 sec. 1a of the Act on Social Insurance System a reference to the basis of the contributions on the received scholarship, which in extreme cases may lead to a significant extension of the doctoral student’s social insurance obligation.

Abstract:
Kazan Art School is a famous Russian educational institution that became an art educational center in the Volga-Kama Region and the Trans-Urals. In 2020, the school represented by N.I. Feshin Kazan Art College celebrates its 125th anniversary. It was opened under the direct tutelage of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1895) on the initiative of the Academy graduates, natives of the Kazan Region N.N. Belkovich, G.A. Medvedev, H.N. Skornyakov, I.A. Denisov, and Yu.I. Thyssen with the assistance of the city authorities. The historical walls of the school are marked by the teaching and pedagogical contribution of such legendary personalities as N.I. Feshin, P.P. Benkov and B.I. Urmanche, A.M. Rodchenko, P.A. Radimov, P.M. Dulsky, D.D. Burliuk, V.K. Timofeyev and other famous masters of the Russian art. The collection of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan contains the main artistic heritage of the school of the pre-revolutionary period and the first years of Soviet history (1895–1920s), which is considered in the given article. Conventionally, this legacy consists of three main parts. The main part includes works by the founders, teachers and students of the Kazan Art School. It is a fairly extensive collection of several hundred paintings and graphic works, as well as a small number of sculptural exhibits. The collection gives an opportunity to get acquainted with typical examples of the creative manner of the main representatives of the school. All of them are characterized by a special individuality of the visual language, but a diverse visual range is united by a common culture of vision. The collection is also particularly valuable due to the fact that it presents rare famous examples of the work of such artists as Yu.I. Thyssen, L.F. Ovsyannikov, F.P. Gavrilov, N.I. Mikhailov and others. An art museum operated at the Kazan school, which was created with the active involvement of the Academy of Arts. The museum operates at the school in a transformed form up to the present day. The collection of the Fine Arts Museum of the republic contains the bulk of the works of this collection, which gives an idea of the scale of the Academy of Arts activities to support the school with donated works. There are about 80 of them in total. The names of many are well known in the history of Russian art: I.E. Repin, I.I. Shishkin, A.P. Bogolyubov, K.E. Makovsky, V.V. Mate, A.F. Gausch, F.S. Zhuravlev, A.A. Kiselev, R.F. Franz and others. The museum collection also contains works by the most famous student of the Kazan Art School – Nikolai Ivanovich Feshin (1881–1955), who later was an equally famous school teacher (since 1909). The largest collection of Feshin's works in Russia, including painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied art of the master (over 180 works) is kept in Kazan.

Abstract:
Art libraries in Austria are basically divided into three main groups according to their specific form of institutional organisation: museum libraries, university libraries, and libraries in galleries. The latter are often situated in recently founded institutions and usually put their focus on contemporary art. Museums and university libraries traditionally have rather extensive collections of basic literature on art and art history as well as specialized literature according to the main subject of their collections. It is characteristic of the present stage of development that innovations in the organisation of these libraries (i.e. computer systems for online catalogues, specialized training, etc.) are not being co-ordinated and the results of local improvements are therefore not as rewarding as they could be. Nevertheless, the first steps towards long term cooperation are being taken, and include such initiatives as the Verein zur Förderung der Errichtung einer Fachhochschule für Informationsberufe, FIB (= Association to promote the foundation of an academy for information professions), and the Kunstreferentensitzungen, an assembly of librarians who discuss current trends and problems in library organization.

Abstract:
Abstract. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) present on or generated by particulate matter (PM) have been implicated in PM-induced health effects. Methodologies to quantify ROS concentrations vary widely, both in detection and collection methods. However, there is currently an increasing emphasis on rapid collection and measurement due to observations of short half-life ROS. To address this problem, this paper details the design and characterization of a novel instrument for the measurement of PM-bound ROS named the Particle Into Nitroxide Quencher (PINQ). This instrument combines the 9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene-nitroxide (BPEAnit) ROS assay in conjunction with a purpose-built aerosol collection device, the insoluble aerosol collector (IAC). The IAC continuously collects PM regardless of size or chemistry directly into a liquid sample with a collection efficiency of > 0.97 and a cut-off size of < 20 nm. The sampling time resolution of the PINQ is 1 min, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.08 nmol m−3 in equivalent BPEAnit-Me concentration per volume of air. This high sample time resolution and sensitivity is achieved due to a combination of the highly concentrated IAC liquid sample, minimized liquid sample volume, and the rapid reaction and stability of the BPEAnit probe.

Abstract:
AbstractIn total primary knee replacement surgery, the use of all-polyethylene tibial (APT) components has many advantages, including no backside wear and no linear dissociation. In addition, the greater polyethylene thickness permits more conservative bone resection compared with that for metal-backed components, with a lower unit cost and similar functional results. Thus, the use of an APT in primary total knee arthroplasty remains an attractive option. This is a review of 158 patients who underwent primary knee replacement using APT components from a single manufacturer. Data collection included age, American Society of Anesthesiology physical status classification, body mass index (BMI), type of deformity, the presence of diabetes mellitus, rate of revision, and characteristics associated with early failure of the components. Average follow-up time was 40 months. The revision rate for any reason was 5.6%, and the average BMI in revision cases was 37.6. Patients with a higher BMI (≥ 37.6) were significantly more likely to require revision surgery than patients with a lower BMI (p = 0.04). In our sample, high BMI was a contributing factor for early failures in total knee replacements using an APT component. Generally, polyethylene tibial components used for primary knee replacements are safe and effective, with good outcomes and subsequent lower costs to the health care system.

Abstract:
Until the beginning of the Second World War the scholarly libraries of what is nowadays known as the ‘New Länder’ (‘new federal states’), and especially those in Saxonia, had excellent collections of art literature. The war brought severe losses through devastation and transportation of war booty out of the country. In the following decades, lack of foreign currency impeded the acquisition of international academic literature. The Sächsische Landesbibliothek in Dresden concentrated its budget on its focal collection subject, fine arts, and it has ever since been a centre for acquisition and information, in particular for the universities of the country. After German reunification, since 1990, there has been a flow of money from different sources to enable the acquisition of the most recent literature and to complete most of the inconvenient gaps. Simultaneously, libraries, especially those belonging to universities and art academies, have been equipped with modern technology, and have been integrated into a library network which unites the formerly divided nation.

Abstract:
Aristotle stated in his Poetics that theatre's dual purpose was to educate and entertain. Centuries later the Roman Horace and Indian Bharata echoed his same sentiments. I intend to realize all three theorist's ideas on the theatre by creating an original educational and entertaining work and bringing it to performance. The audience will retain information without being aware of learning if it is presented in a pleasurable way. The most important geopolitical relationship of this century will be between China and America. In order to educate the American public about the culture of The Middle Kingdom, I propose to write and direct my own play, condensing all three thousand years of Chinese literature into a one hundred and ten minute performance. I will benefit from the personal nature of this thesis by experiencing every stage of a play's production: from idea to page to performance. My thesis will be made of three major parts: conceiving and writing the play, a journal of directing the debut production, and a third section made of choices, influences, and reflection on the entire experience. In this manner, the ideas swirling in my head may be made clear to others reading this thesis. The play itself will be a comical distillation of ten selected works of Chinese literature. Four non-gender specific American actors will seem to make up the show as it performs in a tongue-in-cheek way. Taking my stated goal of entertaining and educating the audience to heart, the overarching plot of the play will center on the four actors teaching the audience about the literature and culture of China by acting out scenes and telling stories. The information in the scenes will be targeted to a normal American citizen's educational level with liberal doses of humor added. The four actors will be playing fictionalized versions of themselves and at times breaking character by explaining and setting up the theatricality of the piece to the audience. Part of the fun of the show will be seeing how these actors explain a subject as obtuse as Chinese literature to Americans. Perhaps a cooking metaphor is the best way to think of the play: I will chop up raw Chinese literature, the actors will boil it onstage, the theatregoer will consume the mix, and exit the theatre full of entertaining intellectual nourishment. My experiences directing and producing the finished play will be recorded in a journal as a resource for future directors. I imagine directing the play will be the most challenging aspect of this thesis. How is the play changed when other people interact with it? How will the audience receive it? In addition, Committee Chair Mark Routhier and my thesis Committee Members, Mark Brotherton and Tan Huaixiang, will also give written responses to the play's performances. The play will be performed October 10-13, 2013 in the University of Central Florida's Performing Arts Complex Studio 2 classroom. In the final section I will write a reflection on the entire process. This will serve the dual purpose of giving me a place to collect my thoughts and giving others a special insight to the growth they might experience when producing this play. Foremost among my influences in writing a play with this subject matter are the style and tone of The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
M.A.
Masters
Theatre
Arts and Humanities
Theatre

Abstract:
Toward the end of seventeenth century, the model of princely representation minted by Louis XIV began to influence the evolution of fine arts in the Saxon electoral capital. Some art historians pointed out that this french influence might have had an impact on the formation of the dresden collections and particularly on the creation of the painting gallery. Material and ideal interchanges seem indeed to have increased under the reign of August II (1696-1733) and of his son, August III (1733-1761). The purpose of the present thesis is to study the evolution of the dresden painting gallery taking into account this cultural transfer between both countries. Therefore the painting acquisitions on the parisian art market shall be discussed as well as the french collectors' influence on the formation of a modern art museum prototype in Dresden

Abstract:
This chapter examines Salò, Or the 120 Days of Sodom and Ilsa, the Wicked Warden. Although both films use Fascist imagery to comment on the corrupting nature of power, they continue to enjoy very different cultural reputations. In order to explore this, the chapter firstly examines the BFI’s special edition Blu-ray release of Pasolini’s film, discussing the way the product employs exploitation tactics over the more established art film marketing directives expected from a highbrow company. Exploiting the film’s more transgressive attributes, the analysis shows how in-text extremity can be externally commercialised. Thereafter, the chapter investigates Ilsa, the Wicked Warden’s appearance within Anchor Bay’s ‘Jess Franco Collection’. Considering whether the auteur branding successfully redeems the lowbrow reputation of both film and filmmaker, the chapter highlights the ways lowbrow distributors use highbrow approaches to legitimise their texts. Ultimately, the chapter suggest that although the BFI trade off notions of disgust, the product presents Pasolini’s film as an artistically challenging experience rather than mere exploitation. In contrast, the chapter asserts that Anchor Bay’s attempt to legitimise Franco’s film is undone be the consistent centralisation of sexually explicit content.

Abstract:
In recent years, wireless sensor networks have became the effective solutions for a wide range of IoT applications. The major task of this network is data collection, which is the process of sensing the environment, collecting relevant data, and sending them to the server or BS. In this chapter, classification of data collection protocols are presented with the help of different parameters such as network lifetime, energy, fault tolerance, and latency. To achieve these parameters, different techniques such as multi-hop, clustering, duty cycling, network coding, aggregation, sink mobility, directional antennas, and cross-layer solutions have been analyzed. The drawbacks of these techniques are discussed. Finally, the future work for routing protocols in wireless sensor networks is discussed.

Abstract:
Big Data Integration (BDI) process integrates the big data arising from many diverse data sources, data formats presents a unified, valuable, customized, holistic view of data. BDI process is essential to build confidence, facilitate high-quality insights and trends for intelligent decision making in organizations. Integration of big data is a very complex process with many challenges. The data sources for BDI are traditional data warehouses, social networks, Internet of Things (IoT) and online transactions. BDI solutions are deployed on Master Data Management (MDM) systems to support collecting, aggregating and delivering reliable information across the organization. This chapter has conducted an exhaustive review of BDI literature and classified BDI applications based on their domain. The methods, applications, advantages and disadvantage of the research in each paper are tabulated. Taxonomy of concepts, table of acronyms and the organization of the chapter are presented. The number of papers reviewed industry-wise is depicted as a pie chart. A comparative analysis of curated survey papers with specific parameters to discover the research gaps were also tabulated. The research issues, implementation challenges and future trends are highlighted. A case study of BDI solutions implemented in various organizations was also discussed. This chapter concludes with a holistic view of BDI concepts and solutions implemented in organizations.

Abstract:
<em>Abstract</em>.—In the United States, a variety of outreach has been done on bighead carp <em>Hypophthalmichthys nobilis </em>and silver carp <em>H. molitrix </em>by a number of organizations and institutions. Because many of these outreach efforts were localized, nonlocalized entities often are unaware of them. Many of the entities conducting outreach, too, do not have a systematic bighead and silver carp (BSC) outreach plan and thus their efforts may not be as efficient or effective as possible. To address these issues, we surveyed organizations in areas where BSC have been found and compiled the reported BSC outreach activities. We then created a comprehensive outreach plan as a template for those conducting BSC outreach and compared it to existing efforts. In this comparison, we found that (1) targeted audiences could be more narrowly focused, (2) easily accessible tools could be more fully utilized, and (3) systematic evaluations need to be conducted to ensure that outreach efforts are being effective. We hope that this compilation and the comprehensive outreach plan will help improve the collective future BSC outreach, making it more efficient and effective.

Abstract:
In this chapter, the concepts of bipolar fuzzy H-ideals of BCI-algebras are introduced and their natures are investigated. Relations between bipolar fuzzy subalgebras, bipolar fuzzy ideals, and bipolar fuzzy H-ideals are discussed. Conditions for a bipolar fuzzy ideal to be a bipolar fuzzy H-ideal are provided. Some characterization theorems of bipolar fuzzy H-ideals are established. A bipolar fuzzy H-ideal is established by using a finite collection of H-ideals. The authors have shown that if every bipolar fuzzy H-ideal has the finite image, then every descending chain of H-ideals terminates at finite step.

Abstract:
Collective Self-Organised (CSO) housing projects are an emerging trend in Europe. In these projects communities engage in co-design throughout the process. Little knowledge exists that can support CSOs with the process of managing their projects by using state-of-the-art building information (BI) technologies. The authors introduce a BI supported CSO housing design process that can support CSOs through all stages in the design process, from early conceptual location planning through to selection of interior finishing. They illustrate the project using a demonstrative illustration of a CSO housing design process. The paper will concentrate on the development of innovative Collaborative Design Technology (CDT) solutions. The tools will be demonstrated on the basis of an illustrative demonstration case in which the CSO-process is combined with an IFD (Industrial, Flexible and Durable) building system. The particular advantages for architectural design practice will be highlighted throughout and gaps in the literature addressed.

Abstract:
Unlike the previous works where detecting communities is performed on large graphs, our approach considers textual documents for discovering potential social networks. More precisely, the aim of this paper is to extract social communities from a collection of documents and a query specifying the domain of interest that may link the group. We propose a methodology that develops an information retrieval system capable to generate the documents that are in relationship with any topic. The authors of these documents are linked together to constitute the social community around the given thematic. The search process in the information retrieval system is designed using BSO, the bee swarm optimization method in order to optimize the retrieval time for large amount of documents. Our approach was implemented and tested on CACM and DBLP and the time of building a social network is quasi instant.

Abstract:
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of several sensor nodes (SNs) that are powered by battery, so their lifetime is limited, which ultimately affects the lifespan and hence performance of the overall networks. Till now many techniques have been developed to solve this problem of WSN. Clustering is among the effective technique used for increasing the network lifespan. In this chapter, analysis of multi-hop routing protocol based on grid clustering with different selection criteria is presented. For analysis, the network is divided into equal-sized grids where each grid corresponds to a cluster and is assigned with a grid head (GH) responsible for collecting data from each SN belonging to respective grid and transferring it to the base station (BS) using multi-hop routing. The performance of the network has been analyzed for different position of BS, different number of grids, and different number of SNs.

Abstract:
Clearance levels (CL) in Germany have been implemented in the Radiation Protection Ordinance (RPO / Strahlenschutzverordnung StrlSchV) of July 2001 which transforms the EURATOM Basic Safety Standards (BSS) into national legislation. Separate clearance options exist e.g. for metals, building rubble, liquids, buildings, wastes and sites. Meanwhile, the CL have found extensive application at a number of operating nuclear installations in Germany, in particular at those under decommissioning or those which will enter the decommissioning phase soon. The CL are based on extensive studies and have been approved by the competent bodies. Yet there has been and is an ongoing discussion in the interested public whether the basis for the CL is correct. In order to establish a scientific basis for this discussion, a Working Group on Clearance within the German Commission on Radiological Protection (SSK) has been established and studies have been launched by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Key issues comprise inter alia: • comparison of German and international CL (scope, values, method of their derivation, etc.); • review and update of German CL for clearance for disposal as a consequence of changes in the (conventional) waste law; • leaching behaviour of relevant radionuclides from cleared building rubble, especially for the long-term behaviour of radionuclides relevant in contaminated concrete of NPPs; • the possibility of multiple exposure for a single individual from various clearance options; • evaluation of the collective dose which may be caused by clearance in Germany and comparison with the reference value of 1 manSv/a.

Abstract:
Since its inception, computer aided 3D modeling has primarily relied on the Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer (WIMP) user interface. WIMP has rarely been able to tap into the natural intuitiveness and imagination of the user which accompanies any design process. Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a novel modality that uses the brain signals of a user to enable natural and intuitive interaction with an external device. The BCI’s potential to become an important modality of natural interaction for 3D modeling is almost limitless and unexplored. In theory, using BCI one can create any 3D model by simply thinking about it. This paper presents a basic framework for using BCI as an interface for computer aided 3D modeling. This framework involves the task of recording and recognizing electroencephalogram (EEG) brain wave patterns and electromyogram (EMG) signals corresponding to facial movements. The recognized EEG/EMG brain signals and associated keystrokes are used to activate/control different commands of a CAD package. Eight sample CAD models are created using the Emotiv EEG head set based BCI interface and Google SketchUp and presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the developed system based on the framework. To further exhibit BCI’s usability, human factor studies have been carried out on subjects from different backgrounds. Based on preliminary results, it is concluded that EEG/EMG based BCI is suitable for computer aided 3D modeling purposes. Issues in signal acquisition, system flexibility, integration with other modalities, and data collection are also discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract With commercially available hardware and supporting software, different electrical potential brain waves are measured via a headset with a collection of electrodes. Out of the different types of brain signals, the proposed brain-computer interface (BCI) controller utilizes non-task related signals, i.e. squeezing left/right hand or tapping left/right foot, due to their responsive behavior and general signal feature similarity among patients. In addition, motor imagery related signals, such as imagining left/right foot or hand movement are also examined. The main goal of the paper is to demonstrate the performance of machine learning algorithms based on classification accuracy. The performances are evaluated on BCI dataset of three male subjects to extract the most significant features. Each subject undergoes a 30-minute session composed of four experiments: two non-task related signals and two motor imagery signals. Each experiment records fifteen trials of two classes (i.e. left/right hand movement). The raw data is then pre-processed using a MatLab plugin, EEGLAB, where standard processes of cleaning and epoching the signals is performed. The paper discusses machine learning for robotic application and the common flaws when validating machine learning methods in the context of BCI to provide a brief overview on biologically (using brain waves) controlled devices.

Abstract:
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) methodology was proposed to help companies create simple strategy plans that can be explained to all employees. The core of this tool is the strategy map that shows a collection of strategic objectives a company needs to achieve its mission. Small and medium companies find it difficult to create their own strategies without the help of a management consultant, which is not always affordable. This paper presents the Mistral Solutions, a system that supports entrepreneurs and their teams to create their own BSC initial strategy maps. The system proposed is based on fuzzy logic. Initially the user takes a online survey about his/her enterprise. During the knowledge acquisition a verbal anchor scale can be used to represent numeric information if the entrepreneur does not know the exact values for each question answer. The Mistral Solutions uses the answers to ground fuzzy rules for creating business strategies in the shape of BSC strategy maps. The system proposes eight strategic objectives, two for each of the four classic BSC perspectives. These strategic objectives are chosen from a set of forty-five possibilities. The knowledge base has one-hundred-eleven variables and onehundred-twenty-six fuzzy rules. This system was applied to institutions representing the public sector, the private sector and a public concession. In the empirical evaluation, the system performed better when applied to private sector institution when all the eight strategic objectives were considered adequate by the manager in charge of the strategic planning of this institution.

Abstract:
<p>Corrosion in service environments limits the durability of many metals. Historically, assessment of that risk adopted a qualitative approach based on generic descriptors such as rural, urban, industrial or coastal environments. These terms are ill-defined and open to interpretation. BS EN ISO 9223 (2012) provides three methods to evaluate risk for several different metals including structural steel and zinc. Two of the methods are quantitative whilst the third remains qualitative. The qualitative method is the most commonly used in engineering because the quantitative methods require data collection over a minimum period of 12 months. This paper provides a methodology to improve risk assessment by use of the quantitative method in BS EN ISO 9223 (2012) to estimate the first-year corrosion rate using historic data sets. Long-term corrosion loss estimation uses the equations in BS EN ISO 9224 (2012).</p>

Abstract:
The bi-directional communication of CAD programs with subsequent applications such as process planning remains a key challenge in design-for-the-lifecycle. While it seems sensible that individual applications use their own collection of feature types and thereby allow users to have their specific perspective of the product, it is still difficult to automatically close the gap between the variety of applications. Universal Linking of Engineering Objects (ULEO) targets this concern. It is general enough to facilitate informational integration of the applications along the process chain. This paper examines a number of scenarios for exploiting ULEO’s benefits in the field of automotive development and reports on the associated prototypical software implementations. Principle alternatives and technical aspects relevant for applying ULEO are discussed in some detail beforehand.

Abstract:
Abstract The confidence of reliability indicates that reliability has randomness induced by any epistemic uncertainties, and these uncertainties can be reduced and manipulated by additional knowledge. In this paper, the uncertainty of input statistical models is mainly treated in the context of confidence-based design optimization (CBDO). Thus, the objective of this paper is to determine the optimal number of data for reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) under input model uncertainty. The uncertainty of input statistical models due to insufficient data is frequent in practical applications since collecting and testing samples of random variables requires engineering efforts. There are two ways to increase the confidence of reliability to be satisfied, which are shifting design vector and supplementing input data. The purpose of this research is to find balanced optimum accounting for a trade-off between two operations since both operations lead to the growth of overall cost. Therefore, it is necessary to optimally distribute the resources to two costs which are denoted as the operating cost of design vector and the development cost of acquiring new data. In this study, two types of costs are integrated as a bi-objective function, satisfying the probabilistic constraint for the confidence of reliability. The number of data is regarded as design variable to be optimized, and stochastic sensitivity analysis of reliability with respect to the number of data is developed. The proposed bi-objective CBDO can determine the optimal number of input data based on the current dataset. Then, the designers decide the additional number of tests for collecting input data according to the optimum of bi-objective CBDO to minimize the overall cost.

The lymphatic system collects interstitial fluid and proteins and pumps them back to the blood circulatory system. Additionally, it is important in lipid uptake in the mesentery and immune response. Any failure of the system in pumping lymph results in swelling of tissue and/or organ(s), or lymphedema. The lymphatic system consists of initial lymphatic capillaries and larger collecting vessels. The latter contain tubular regions covered with contracting lymphatic muscle cells, which are separated by bi-leaflet valves to ensure unidirectional flow [1].

Abstract:
A Business Intelligence (BI) System employs tools from several areas of knowledge for the collection, integration and analysis of data to improve business decision making. The Brazilian Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MP) uses a BI System designed with the University of Brasília to ascertain irregularities on the payroll of the Brazilian federal government, performing audit trails on selected items and fields of the payroll database. This current auditing approach is entirely deterministic, since the audit trails look for previously known signatures of irregularities which are composed by means of an ontological method used to represent auditors concept maps. In this work, we propose to incorporate a statistical filter in this existing BI system in order to increase its performance in terms of processing speed and overall system responsiveness. The proposed statistical filter is based on a generative Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) whose goal is to provide a complete stochastic model of the process, specially the latent probability density function of the generative mixture, and use that model to filter the most probable payrolls. Inserting this statistical filter as a pre-processing stage preceding the deterministic auditing showed to be effective in reducing the amount of data to be analyzed by the audit trails, despite the penalty fee intrinsically associated with stochastic models due to the false negative outcomes that are not further processed. In our approach, gains obtained with the proposed pre-processing stage overcome impacts from false negative outcomes.

Abstract:
For many years now, an increased emphasis has been placed on the energy requirements of electric motor driven equipment. For end-users footing monthly electrical bills, efficiency is important along with the assurance that the equipment delivers the specified output. With fans, it is now commonplace to put performance guarantees in place when purchasing new equipment which specify volume flow, pressure requirements and expectations for efficiency or power that have to be met. Test procedures suitable for conducting fan performance guarantee tests are available in many published AMCA, ASME, ANSI, BS and ISO performance test standards and codes. These procedures specify how to measure the fan performance at discrete operating points and provide uncertainty analysis methods to estimate the accuracy of the test. Some test standards are believed to provide more accurate field test results than others. It is generally recognized throughout industry that it is virtually impossible to have suitable correlation between the site and the specified design conditions for the purpose of a ‘guarantee test’. This is often due to differences in the actual system resistance compared to what was predicted by the original design calculations as well as difficulties of adjusting system resistance and maintaining system stability with a process operating on line. The method of fan volume flow control, whether variable speed or throttle control, influences the amount of time and effort required to get the test point as close as possible to the specified operating point. With possibly the exception of AMCA and BS, published test standards and codes generally do not provide methods for evaluating whether the performance guaranteed by the fan vendor has been verified by a performance test. This technical paper provides guidelines for how to approach the difficult problem of verifying guaranteed operating points on fans. It specifically deals with the following aspects: - Evaluation of both partial and full capacity operating points. - Data collection methodology for selecting the number and relative positions of performance test points that are required to verify a guaranteed operating point. - Evaluation methodology that will relate the test points obtained to the specified operating point; Single Point, Multiple Point Line and Multiple Point Box data collection and evaluation methods. - Potential acceptance tolerances for flow, pressure, power and/or efficiency of the guaranteed operating point. - Field test accuracy and the implications on acceptance tolerances.
