Economic disruptions generally create winners and losers. The compensation problem consists of designing a reform of the existing income tax system that offsets the welfare losses of the latter by redistributing the gains of the former. We derive a formula for the compensating tax reform and its impact on the government budget when only distortionary tax instruments are available and wages are determined endogenously in general equilibrium. We apply this result to the compensation of robotization in the United States.

Business executives and academics frequently criticize budget-based compensation plans as providing incentives for subordinates to build slack into proposed budgets. In this paper, we examine whether either of two practices—using budgets to allocate scarce resources, or providing information about co-workers—reduces budget slack and increases subordinate performance when organizations use budgets for performance evaluation. The results from our experiment show that using budgets for both resource allocation and performance evaluation not only eliminates budget slack, but also increases subordi

As a key link between a vast array of small- and medium-sized adjustable resources and the bulk power system, load aggregators (LAs) typically allocate peak shaving budgets using fixed pricing methods based on peak shaving demand forecasts. However, due to the randomness of supply and demand, fluctuations in peak shaving demand occur, making it a significant technical challenge to meet peak shaving needs under limited budget allocations. Abstract:
Liberia holds some of the last remaining, intact forests in West Africa and so reducing deforestation quickly and efficiently would be important in global climate change mitigation efforts. This paper aims to help by providing a rough sense of how many people might be affected by the protected area plans. It then examines evidence on compensation costs to give a sense of the budget that might be required if principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) are respected per Liberia’s new Land Rights Policy.
