Compared to the montage technique of connecting scenes in a narrative to create meaning in movies, in animation we frequently see the expression method of long take transitions rather than editing. This type of expression is similar to long takes in films, in which the metamorphosis of two objects, spaces, or scenes are used to form a flowing and unbroken image. This type of image expression leaves behind the limitations of three-dimensional space and physical world, and is closer to a spiritual operational model that is stream-of-consciousness and free movement, forming a unique image vocabulary in animation. Many animators use this metamorphosis technique to be the special form in creative works to develop personalized visual images. The conversion relationship between spatial transition and subject metamorphosis is another part that this paper attempts to explore in animation. This paper uses the creative process of the animated short “Bugging, the Dream” as research target. The first chapter begins with the definition of metamorphosis and the history of early animation to explore the developmental context of metamorphosis expression in animation, and describes my personal creative and learning process. The second chapter and third chapter use “Bugging, the Dream” as an example to explore problems encountered in creative work from the brainstorming, creative topic, and manufacturing process of the film. The fourth chapter further explores the relationship between animation transformational techniques and the media, and also analyzes the transition metamorphosis in “Bugging, the Dream.” The conclusion uses the presentation method of animation, as well as foreign and domestic host institutions and interaction opportunities, to explore the possibilities of future developments for independent animators.
