Khare, Varun. "Building Economic Efficiency into Multicast Content Delivery Networks." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/222613.

Abstract:
Internet-scale dissemination of streaming contents (e.g. live sport games) is most successfully being provided by Multicast Content Delivery Networks (Multicast CDN). Multicast CDN is composed of dedicated servers placed strategically over the Internet, which forward content from origin site to end users. Multicast CDN delivers huge amount of data traffic, and therefore its major operational cost is the ISP cost for network access. Existing Multicast CDNs route user requests to most suitable server based on application performance, such as network delay, server throughput, Internet path congestion etc., without taking into account the potentially high ISP cost it may incur. Multicast CDNs need to control their ISP cost to remain commercially competitive since ISP cost is the most indicative factor affecting the pricing of their services. In this work, we present novel Multicast CDN Request Routing algorithms that minimize ISP cost while still maintaining good network performance for users. Multicast CDN Request Routing algorithms control majority of traffic assigned to servers and therefore directly impacts the ISP cost. ISP cost and user network performances are orthogonal metrics of performance and in order to balance the trade-off between them we introduce overall delay as a constraint to the Multicast CDN Request Routing algorithm. Multicast CDNs are business customers of ISPs and therefore can independently choose to reduce their bills by considering the ways in which ISPs charge. We have designed Request Routing algorithms that exploit the economy of scale in ISP charging function in assigning users to servers. We have developed Request Routing algorithms that exploit the nature of Percentile-based charging used by ISPs to compute the charging volume for traffic generated at server sites. Multicast CDN can cooperate with ISPs to reduce the operational cost of both the parties. Multicast CDN controls how traffic is redirected on the overlay, and that can conflict with how underlying ISPs want the traffic to be forwarded. We have developed Request Routing algorithms that assign users to servers that are available over cheaper IP routes. This reduces the transmission costs for ISPs and these savings can be transferred onto Multicast CDN.

Abstract:
Five projects improve understanding of how to use PCM to reduce building cooling energy. Firstly, a post-installation energy-audit of an active cooling system with PCM tank revealed an energy cost of 10.6% of total cooling energy, as compared to an identical tankless system, because PCM under%cooling prevented heat rejection at night. Secondly, development of a new taxonomy for PCM cooling systems allowed reclassification of all systems and identified under-exploited types. Novel concept designs were generated that employ movable PCM units and insulation. Thirdly, aspects of the generated designs were tested in a passive PCM sail design, installed in an occupied office. Radiant heat transfer, external heat discharge and narrow phase transition zone all improved performance. Fourthly, passive PCM product tests were conducted in a 4.2 m3 thermal test cell in which two types of ceiling tile, with 50 and 70% microencapsulated PCM content, and paraffin/copolymer composite wallboards yielded peak temperature reductions of 3.8, 4.4 and 5.2 °C, respectively, and peak temperature reductions per unit PCM mass of 0.28, 0.34 and 0.14 °C/kg, respectively. Heat discharge of RACUS tiles was more effective due to their non-integration into the building fabric. Conclusions of preceding chapters informed the design of a new system composed of an array of finned aluminium tubes, containing paraffin (melt temperature 19.79 °C, latent heat 159.75 kJ/kg) located below the ceiling. Passive cooling and heat discharge is prioritised but a chilled water loop ensures temperature control on hotter days (water circulated at 13 °C) and heat discharge on hotter nights (water circulated at 10 °C). Test cell results showed similar passive performance to the ceiling tiles and wallboards, effective active temperature control (constant 24.6˚C air temperature) and successful passive and active heat discharge. A dynamic heat balance model with an IES% generated UK office’s annual cooling load and PCM temperature%enthalpy functions predicted annual energy savings of 34%.

Lee, Jin Kook. "Building environment rule and analysis (BERA) language and its application for evaluating building circulation and spatial program." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/39482.

Full text
Abstract:
This study aims to design and implement a domain-specific computer programming language: the Building Environment Rule and Analysis (BERA) Language. As a result of the growing area of Building Information Modeling (BIM), there has been a need to develop highly customized domain-specific programming languages for handling issues in building models in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. The BERA Language attempts to deal with building information models in an intuitive way in order to define and analyze rules in design stages. The application of the BERA Language aims to provide efficiency in defining, analyzing and checking rules. Specific example applications implemented in this dissertation are on the evaluation of two key aspects: building circulation and spatial programming. The objective of this study is to accomplish an effectiveness and ease of use without precise knowledge of general-purpose languages that are conventionally used in BIM software development. To achieve the goal, this study proposes an abstraction of the universe of discourse - it is the BERA Object Model (BOM). It is a human-centered abstraction of complex state of building models rather than the computation-oriented abstraction. By using BOM, users can enjoy the ease of use and portability of BIM data, rather than complex and platform-dependent data structures. This study also has reviewed and demonstrated its potential for extensibility of BOM. Not only its lateral extensions such as structural building elements, but also the vertical extensions such as additional properties for existing BOM objects are good examples. In current BERA Language Tool, many computed and derived properties/relations have been proposed and implemented, as well as some basic data directly from the given building model. Target users of the BERA Language are domain experts such as architects, designers, reviewers, owners, managers, students, etc., rather than BIM software developers. It means that the people who are interested in the building environment rule and analysis are the potential users. The BERA Language Tool comprises many libraries to alleviate common but unnecessary problems and limitations that are encountered when users attempt to analyze and evaluate building models using commercially available tools. Combined with other libraries which populate rich and domain-specific datasets for certain purposes, the BERA Language will be fairly versatile to define rules and analyze various building environmental conditions.

Full text
Abstract:
The research work presented in this manuscript is of algorithmic kind: it is mainly composed of polynomial, fixed parameter and approximation algorithms, while hardness results are also mentioned.

This work is about building and comparing labelled trees. These objects find application in different areas, but notoriously in phylogenetics, where they represent evolutionary relationships of organisms or sequences.

Most of this work can be considered as investigating solutions to so-called \emph{supertree} problems. Supertrees are large trees built by a dynamic programming approach from smaller trees. For instance, the latter are gene trees from which a comprehensive tree on many living species is to be built, such as the \emph{Tree of Life}.

First definitions are introduced, then a part of the manuscript is dedicated to quartet tree building methods. The next part details tree comparison methods, mainly variants of the maximum agreement subtree method. Next follows a part on supertree problems in all generality.
The manuscript ends with a report of the research plan for the next few years.

Several journal papers illustrating the material described in this manuscript are adjoined in appendix.

(cont.) may still be solved as an unconstrained linear least squares problem. To enforce the constraint on system eigenvalues, the problem is formulated as an unconstrained mixed (linear and non-linear) least-squares problem, which is easier to solve than the corresponding problem with linear objective function and non-linear constraints. The (usually unfounded) assumption on which the normal equations are based--that observations of the independent variables are error free--is relaxed at the cost of one more non-linear term. The resulting model coefficients are valid for predicting heat rate given zone temperature as well as for predicting zone temperature given heat rate. Control. Three important control applications involving transient zone thermal response are HVAC curtailment, optimal start, and night precooling. A general framework for model-based control of zone and whole-building operation is developed. Optimal precooling under time-of-use rates is formulated to solve the optimal fan operation sequence using a one-day control horizon with hourly time steps. Energy and demand cost savings are presented.
Motivated by the high speed of real-time data acquisition, computational power, and low cost of generic PCs and embedded-PCs running Linux, this thesis addresses new methods and approaches to fault detection, model identification, and control. Fault detection: A series of faults was introduced into a 3-Ton roof-top air-conditioning unit (RTU). Supply and condenser fan imbalance were detected by changes in amplitude spectrum of real power resulting from the interaction of impeller rotation and the dominant chassis vibration mode. Ingestion of liquid refrigerant by the compressor was identified by detecting power and reactive power transients during compressor starts. An adaptive ARX(5) model was used to detect ingestion during steady compressor operation. Compressor valve or seal leakage were detected by a change in the leakage parameter of a simple evaporator-compressor-condenser model that explains the rise in compressor load from 0.25 to .5 seconds after compressor start, i.e. as shaft speed rises from about 50% to 90% of synchronous speed. Refrigerant undercharge was also detected by changes in start transient shape. Overcharge was detected by steady state compressor power and reduced evaporator and condenser air flow were detected by steady state power draw of the respective fan motors. Model Identification. On-line models are useful for control as well as fault detection. Model-based control of building loads requires a valid plant model and identification of such a model for a specific building or zone is a non-trivial inverse problem. The thesis develops three advances in the thermal diffusion inverse problem. Two involve thermodynamic constraints. The problem is first reformulated in such a way that the constraint on temperature

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis was to build the Guitar Application ToolKit (GATK), a series of applications used to expand the sonic capabilities of the acoustic/electric stereo guitar. Furthermore, the goal of the GATK was to extend improvisational capabilities and the compositional techniques generated by this innovative instrument. During the GATK creation process, the current production guitar techniques and overall sonic result were enhanced by planning and implementing a personalized electroacoustic performance set up, designing custom-made performance interfaces, creating interactive compositional strategies, crafting non-standardized sounds, and controlling various music parameters in real-time using the Max/MSP programming environment. This was the first thesis project of its kind. It is expected that this thesis will be useful as a reference paper for electronic musicians and music technology students; as a product demonstration for companies that manufacture the relevant software; and as a personal portfolio for future technology related-jobs.

Abstract:
A collection of twenty three selectively mono-protected di- and triamines, masked with the Boc, Fmoc or Ddiv protecting groups, were synthesised via continuous flow synthesis in a self-assembled meso-scale PTFE flow reactor. The continuous flow strategy offered direct access to the mono-protected compounds in good yields, especially in the case of the Fmoc carbamates which circumvented the use of another sacrificial protecting group. Two of the mono-Boc-protected carbamates were used as starting materials to generate N-alkylglycine monomers; synthesised via tandem mono-alkylation and Fmoc carbamation, linked by an in-line scavenging protocol using a silica-based trisamine scavenger resin. The final step of the monomer synthesis employed catalytic transfer hydrogenolysis using 20% Pd(OH)2/C and 1,4- cyclohexadiene. The three-step flow procedure gave access to two monomers, with one of them being a novel N-alkylglycine unit bearing a triethylene glycol bridge. The monomers were used as building blocks to assemble new oligo-N-alkylglycines (peptoids) via microwave-assisted solid phase synthesis. Three different types of peptoids were synthesised: (i) oligo-N-(6-aminohexyl)glycines (“standard” peptoids), (ii) oligo-N-{2-[2-(2-aminoethoxy)ethoxy]ethyl}glycines (“triethylene glycol” [TEG] peptoids) and (iii) hetero-oligomers of alternating “standard” and “TEG” monomers (“hybrid” peptoids). The peptoids were evaluated for their cellular permeability and cytotoxicity with HeLa, HEK-293 and CHO cells. All the peptoids were shown to be non-cytotoxic at 10 μM based on cell proliferation assays. In general, it was found that the cellular uptake of the hybrid peptoids outperformed their standard and TEG analogues. Flow cytometry and confocal microscopy results revealed that the hybrid nonamer had the highest cellular uptake efficiency of all the peptoids synthesised. At a concentration of 1 μM, it outperformed the second best molecular transporter (standard nonamer) by a factor of seven.

Fox, Stephen John. "Application of design for manufacture principles to building design and construction." Thesis, Sheffield Hallam University, 2001. http://shura.shu.ac.uk/19207/.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to answer the two research questions: how can design for manufacture be applied during building component design and building design?; and how can the application of design for manufacture be successful in improving the productivity and quality of building component production and building construction? These two questions emerged during exploratory research focused on the use of design to improve construction industry productivity and quality. Subsequent review of manufacturing literature revealed that the two key principles of design for manufacture are standard production design improvement rules and standard production design evaluation metrics. Review of construction literature, and a survey involving over one hundred and fifty industry practitioners, revealed that, whilst rules and metrics for building components and buildings do not currently exist, there are no fundamental reasons why they could not be developed and applied successfully. These findings led to the generation of the research hypothesis: design for manufacture principles can be applied successfully to building components and buildings. The research hypothesis was tested by two interventions, action research within a private business which manufactures and installs building components, and a case study with a multi-national company which designs and constructs buildings. These interventions resulted in significant business benefits. Further, they confirmed that it is both technically feasible and economically viable to apply rules and metrics to building component design and building design, and that doing so can improve the productivity and quality of building component production and building construction. Following analysis of research findings, strategic plans were developed for the successful application of rules and metrics. These were validated through interviews with senior construction industry practitioners. Contributions to knowledge include the strategic plans for successful application of rules and metrics. These cover the full range of organisations working in the construction industry and, together with the detailed descriptions of the interventions, offer practical guidance for industry practitioners seeking to improve productivity and quality. The research also makes a contribution in the area of research methodology. It has shown that threats to research validity in the construction industry can be counteracted by applying a quasi-experimental perspective to action research interventions and case studies.

Taiwan housing departments generally lack the flexible design concept of open building for a long time. This phenomenon often causes many potential environmental problems during the refurbishment period, such as the severe vibration, noise, dust and waste. In addition, the housing elevation design is also horrid and destroyed by the second-time construction. Housing appearance quality is usually disorderly and unsystematic. This study attempts to develop a building blocks system which is suitable for the application of the local open building requirement. This system combines the building structure, equipment pipeline, interior material and elevation design into a flexible and independent framework. Under the constraint on market needs and industrial development, this research tries to build a unique, local, open building style by this innovative experiment. The system is built based on the building blocks theory. The concept of this theory focuses on dividing complicated problems into several sub-problems. The researcher has to find optimal solutions for each sub-problem and then re-combine these sub-problems back into a complete system. This theory is appropriately used for dealing with the complicated housing construction problems. This system has five major characteristics: 1.Durable and separated construction method: This system considers the combination of local module, building material, construction method, as well as the R.C. frame system to satisfy the long-lived requirement of support system. Besides, the standardized prefabrication elevation enclosed unit, movable partition, and unit toilet can also meet the short-term adjusting requirements of infill system. 2.Emphasis on spatial capacity: This system uses vertical and horizontal pipelines outside the external support system to provide the greatest capacity. This concept can also satisfy various requirements during the building operation life cycle. 3.Access to repair equipment pipeline: This system enables the structure to be independent of the equipment. This way is beneficial for the distribution of the pipelines as well as the repair and maintenance tasks in the future. 4.Interface integration: This system integrates the building structure, equipment pipeline, and elevation system. In terms of the aesthetics and practicality, this method also allows the air conditioner and its pipeline be situated in the wall layer between the inside and outside wall. 5.Adaptable double-skin system:This system divides the external wall into inside and outside parts. Outside part is an open wall layer properly resisting the severe weather. It can also provide some advantageous functions such as the mechanism for better sunshade, the leading of the light, the shelter from the rain, etc. according to site conditions. Inside part is a waterproof, soundproof, and insulating layer preventing the leaking, noise, and heat from being invaded into the indoor room. In accordance with an appropriate opening arrangement, it can also offer the basic requirement for adequate ventilation.

Traditional building traceability is typically implemented by filling out paper work. Thus makes the information difficult to query, retrieve, and maintain. In addition, it is also difficult to retrieve and query information on site without 3D visual aids. The adaptation of BIM technology into the construction industry has become a trend, but only a small number of construction companies from the private sector use BIM technology in assisting construction projects. Most of the BIM usage focuses on visual conflict detections and integration reviews. If the BIM technology can be applied in building traceability, the visual model and information integration/management ability will help construction companies develop and maintain construction traceability system. A comparative analysis was conducted between the traditional building traceability and BIM processes in order to identify areas that can be improved with BIM technology. After the literature review and expert interview, the building lifecycle traceability content requirements were formulated and confirmed for construction companies with BIM technology adaptation. By linking the traceability information to the BIM data hierarchy structure, the BIM templates are developed for the traceability system. Finally, an empirical case study is conducted on a residential building project. Research results show that the BIM technology incorporated building traceability system proposed by this research can be effectively applied in actual construction projects. It can assist construction site managers in truthfully executing onsite inspection and proper construction quality management. Using the BIM model as the data integration and management tool, it can access corresponding module component information at actual site locations in real time. Also, it solves the problem of difficult information query and retrieval encountered by traditional building traceability system.

Abstract:
3D models have been widely used in many areas since decades ago. When BIM (Building Information Modelling) and VR (Virtual Reality) become popular recent years, 3D model, as an essential part of it has been frequently asked or even required, which is both a challenge and opportunity to a surveying engineer.   Through investigation of three different alternatives to create 3D models: image based, terrestrial laser scanning based and airborne laser scanning based modelling, the author aims to help a surveying engineer to choose the proper method and tool. Workflows, costs and applications have been discussed for each approach and the results show that image based modeling is most time and cost efficient but with lower accuracy which is suitable for visualization while thanks to the high resolution of data capture, terrestrial laser scanning based modeling can be utilized for detailed as-built modeling or BIM. The weakness of such method is the high initial cost and much time demanded; for large area city modeling, the airborne laser scanning approach is the most efficient way with limitations of the low level of details and expensive equipment.   However, it should be critical to understand that there is no automatic way to reconstruct a controllable 3D object at present. Due to the limited accessibility of equipment, the photogrammetric 3D building reconstruction method is not included in this study and thus, a future study may continue with this method. 3D object may be converted to a format that can be used in BIM, such kind of format exchange can be an interesting topic for further study.

The environmental planning of library has direct effects on librarians and users. The green building concept is not simply about growing plants but also our environmental protection and healthy building design. After reviewing library literature, it is found that much has been written on library architecture planning, interior space design, barrier-free environment, the problem of noise, the impact of information technology on library building and intelligent building. However the literature about library and environment protection is scare. It is very important to introduce the green building concept to the library field. Therefore, the purpose of the study is as follows: 1. To understand the definition of green building and the status of green building development in Taiwan and other countries; 2. To use case studies of green libraries to explore the possibilities of applying green building concepts in libraries; 3. To understand the views about green library from architects and librarians. Literature review and personal interviews were used as research methods to collect data for this study. The results of the study reveal that library is very suitable for green architecture design. Sustainable design means doing the most with the least means. Longevity is a good thing. If a building can be long-lasting and energy-efficient, that is even better. Form interviewing with librarians and architects, the features of a green library should include: integration of green building concepts with library planning; energy-efficient; environmental greening and protection. Some suggestions have been raised in the study: 1. To the library field (a) need interdisciplinary integration of library and architecture fields; (b) revise library building standards; (c) enhance librarians’ knowledge of architecture; (d) promote green building concepts to the library field. 2. To the architecture field (a) establish the green building society; (b) improve the knowledge of library functions.

Early of 1970s’, “Quality Function Deployment (QFD) was released by two Japan Professors - Yoji Akao and Osamu Mizuno, It was applied & proven widely at manufacturing industry in U.S.A. & Japan immediately and later on, also applied at Phillip electronic in Taiwan since 1988. The main function of “ QFD “ is to ensure the quality control on every production process that means, during the whole manufacturing process, to get stability of quality and to create an attractive product to satisfy customer. Also it emphasizes the preparation before production and surveys customers’ need by positioning customers’ level, to decide product design and ensure product & service may meet and satisfy customers’ need. Construction, or what we called “ the driving role of industries “, as it’s a basic need of life and it was related with all of other industries. So, construction industry always plays an important role in the whole industries and moving forward together with each other. The purpose of this research is to lead Quality Function Deployment – QFD technology into the chain stores construction application via Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technology and to transfer customer’s requirements into design development to ensure every construction process and improve construction quality.

Abstract:
The idea that writing is a process and not a product is now generally accepted in writing education, but discussions of digital scholarly communication often neglect the idea, in theory and in practice. This thesis report introduces a Mac OS X software package to support the early stages of the writing process, called Brouillon. Brouillon’s features include: the concatenation of discrete note files into notebooks; notes appearing in multiple notebooks; note intake from mobile devices via Dropbox; and an open standard file format. The report also provides a model of the organization of products of the writing process, with a focus on Brouillon’s most unusual feature, multi-notebook notes. It discusses difficulties in implementation and identifies possibilities for future improvement.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents two mixed reality (MR) applications developed for the head-mounted display Microsoft HoloLens (MH) – InOffice and InSitu, which support building maintenance tasks in constructions with complex infrastructure. These solutions are intended to help maintenance workers when they need to track and fix part of the infrastructure by revealing hidden components, displaying additional information and guiding them in complex tasks. The applications have the potential to improve maintenance worker’s performance as they assist in performing faster and with higher accuracy. The work presented explores the creation of the applications and discusses the methodologies used to build user-friendly tools. Both MR applications were tested with active maintenance professionals, and results revealed each solution is useful to support building maintenance in different types of situation. InOffice, which displays an interactive and reduced version of the building being maintained, is suited to work off-site, for planning and remote assistance. In InSitu the user visualizes a 1:1 scaled hologram of the building aligned with the real world, and it is better suited for maintenance that requires manual tasks on site. The methodology was based on design science research: an improvement need, and not necessarily a problem, was identified, and from there a solution was conceived. MR is being applied as a successful tool for helping in several areas, and this work can give insights for many future solutions with mixed reality or MH to build novel and better applications that improve tasks at work or domestic environments.

Since 2000, many industries have faced a transitional phase in Taiwan. Manufacturesers have gradually lost their industrial competitiveness and profits that have been reduced. Therefore, Enterprises must think about the next stage of development. The establishment of an Own Brand has become the main focus of the company’s goal. In contrast, the manufacture just only needs to meet the main several customers. But in the other hand, Own Brand management needs to focus on market trends and end-user needs, and many brand managers lack of understanding of overall and complete of brand concept. Result in no breakthrough on their owned brand. In this study, fomico was used as the research object, and the brand execution strategy of the case was put into the wheel of brand establishment. Corresponding to the comparison and analysis, the study found that the case brand was reduced by vertical integration to reduce production and R&D costs. The technical advancement and effective improvement of cost-effectiveness, although effective in reducing costs, can not smoothly improve the brand awareness of the second step, and the brand does not complete brand analysis and positioning of the brand, resulting in brand positioning blur. However, they are still actively participating in local activities, industry-university cooperation, and actively promoting charity activities to strengthen brand awareness. Therefore, this study gives research advice on the brand concept that is lacking in the brand building process. Use market research as a way to explore the real needs of consumers in the market, and re-complete the brand analysis and positioning of the brand, and re-examine the brand. The channel can be co-branded or channeled by other well-known brands, so that consumers can easily notice the case brand and enhance brand awareness. Enhance brand trust and awareness through image-based network reds. And establish a community of highly exclusive assets to maintain and stabilize consumer relationships. Conduct brand building strategies based on model steps to build a strong, long-term and effective brand.

The assessment of the seismic risk for the city represent an important resources in order to measure the potential losses due to future earthquake. The evaluation of seismic risk involves the combination of three main components: seismic hazard model, exposure model defining the spatial distribution of elements exposed to the hazard and vulnerability functions capable of describing the distribution of percentage of loss for a set of intensity measure levels. Building fragility curve is an important component to influence the seismic risk. The fragility curves in this study will be made based on the building damage records collected from the 1999 Chi-Chi and 2016 Meinong earthquakes. The fragility curves in Taiwan were previously developed based on the value in peak ground acceleration (PGA). In the knowledge finding on the relation of hazard to damage as to be risk related, PGA is not a critical parameter for this estimation. In view of this, we intend to develop building fragility curves in other strong motion parameters (e.g., peak ground velocity or revised intensity). By using maximum likelihood estimation method we estimate the building damage and economic loss in comparison to the previously established PGA-based curves. In this case the reliability of the building damage and economic losses for our result are higher than the estimation from pre-existing fragility. We implemented both the pre-existing fragility curves and those we have obtained to the probabilistic seismic risk assessment for Taipei and Tainan City. Our intention is to give the new building fragility curves in different types of intensity and the first attempt on the modeling the seismic risk on an open platform for Taiwan.

A systematically digitized archive management of the building licenses helps to improve the administrative processes and eliminate the time consumption while applying for the relevant documents. According to a survey, the borrowing, returning or filing methods of building licenses is still manual driven in most cities up to now, where often lead to a poor administrative performance due to the difficulties of locating certain documents. Yet, effective with the implementation of the law of the Archives Act, our government management system would move onto systematization and standardization. As for massive handling, government relies on an electrical processing system. But in terms of a general file managing system, it has proved itself deficient in revealing the structure-related documentation, but locating of a single file only. In view of this, this study refers to the existing documents and the analysis of construction management data. It is found that the linkage of the building license and the operating permit may help to reveal all related documents within the life circle of a building. Take a building license issued by Keelung city as an example, to expand the license file management system module with focusing in current construction management systems. Through the interviews of file manager and end user, to find out problematic cruxes so as to re-design the managing system, improve and enhance the file managing performance. In addition, using the technology of the construction management system to make all documentation digitalized, consolidating all approved permits and licenses that may be found in the life circle of a building. A full scale and sharable database is built for easy access or query in real time and mobile concept, by which the goal of the construction file managing and manipulation as well as full automation can be achieved.

While starting a new software application project, we usually focus on how to build up a system to solve a specific domain problem and to reply information requirements from customers soon. Leaning from the building process to construct a model for high-quality application delivery and to quickly response to customer for requirements changes is critical successful factor for any application projects. To build up a new application, we construct system architecture and project plan by an experienced domain expert or old-timey system analyst. It is important to reuse and apply the same domain knowledge for information application development. The purpose is to shorten the period to realize what are user needs and prototype it as soon as possible. If we can’t communicate with customers in same domain laguage, it is impossible to establish an application to help user to accomplish their job, which means the project is probably unsuccessful. Setting up a common library to extract knowledge from application project building in a standard pattern is the purpose of this paper. We setup an ontology model trying to mine the core knowledge of application building. The precious experiences and developments from each project, especially sucessful project, should be kept and easy to reach. Two faces of ontology knowledge pattern will be defined in this paper, one is for application project management and another is for software engineering process. We decompose the knowledge from the sme domain application into several ontology units, entiies and attributes, in one standard formula with tree maps. Applying the ontology model defined in this paper for a new application project and we have a conclusion that development cost and requirement cost is lower and user satisfaction is higher than the application without ontology model and the reusefulness is regular in the project process. We just need the old-timey system analyst and the project manager at first time to build a new application, after that, access the library and find out these experiences and learning from it.

Digital education is a very hot topic recently. As the rapid development of Internet and database systems, to present information that gathered and created on the Internet in database is the most efficient way to spread knowledge. Besides, owing to the awareness of environmental issues, emphasis on the toxic chemical management is growing. In the research, out work is to integrate the 2D and 3D structural information of toxic molecules and the Material Safety Date Sheets (MSDS) into a database, and to use it to extend it to other applications. Our core is the database of toxic molecules. We adopt the web-based structure and PHP as the programming language, on a FreeBSD platform. To show the molecular models, we use MDL® Chime, a plug-in to display the structures in browsers. Using a designed interface, users can select a molecule of interest by clicking the link to display the integrated molecular structure and MSDS data. “Toxic molecules and chemicals management system” and “Self-learning system” are two applications developed from “Toxic Molecule Database”. The former is a functional logistic management system of chemicals and materials for a laboratory environment. The system is designed to simplify the administrative processes of toxic material operation and report. It can complete the work of reporting back, and manage the chemicals of laboratory. The later offers a quick and easy way to learn the names and structures of molecules. The database and the systems developed in this study should be useful tools for chemical management and good assistance to chemistry education on molecules. Our future work is to expand the content of the database and to make it applicable to other domains in chemistry.

Postproduction plays a very important role during the film making process in the movie industry as well as in the advertising industry. Nevertheless, it does not possess any relationship to the field of industrial design. Nowadays product design is not just limited to the design of form anymore, the most significant issue is the demand of “human nature”. At the same time, many foreign enterprises are making use of multimedia functionalities and displaying various concepts through realistic composition, thus deducting the scene and making it possible to be visualized. This research aimed at investigating into the results of the display of scenario design while applied to the film making process. It was hoped that the conclusions achieved could provide the field of industrial design with another category of interpretation of the results. Furthermore, a workshop was conducted to develop a scenario building structure using the KJ method and two short films were produced through digital composition according to the scripts written. Using the final films, people with industrial design backgrounds were interviewed to study whether the method adopted can present a positive influence on communication and presentation. The researcher came to the following conclusions: 1. Digital composition presents more significant outcomes when applied to information providing actions such as concept communication and design services. 2. The definition of concepts in the beginning of the design process and the preparation works of the filming process influence the messages to be delivered by the film. 3. People with industrial design background need to devote their time to the learning process while getting into contact with the field of digital composition.

BIM technology has been paid more and more attention in the field of construction engineering. In many countries, relevant regulations have been formulated to promote and gradually achieve many application effects. BIM is to reduce errors, shorten the construction period, save engineering costs and operate after completion. A set of continuous operations managed. According to the current development trend of BIM, it is expected that BIM will have more extensive development and application in the future, and this research combines BIM technology with new technology of augmented reality as the future development trend. In addition to using BIM's 3D interface and complete facility equipment data content as COBie standard data to help management units improve operational efficiency, the main purpose is to use COBie standard data to generate a facility equipment repair system platform and visualize it. The 3D model introduces new technologies such as augmented reality and joins the cloud database for integration. When there is a need for repair of facilities and equipment, the platform can quickly notify the facility to quickly understand the maintenance history of the facility. The construction facilities and equipment repairs built by the Institute will be able to synchronize the "scene", "information" and "action" with the inconvenience of the traditional inability to receive information and views. The "scenario", "information" and "action" can be synchronized to solve the traditional large-scale drawings. However, it cannot be systematically managed, and the device information of the internal space of the model can be seen through the augmented reality. In this study, the augmented reality and BIM are introduced into the system and a simple test is performed to test whether the system is operating normally. The purpose is to improve user convenience and execution efficiency, and finally make recommendations and conclusions on the results.

SUMMARY This integrates the concept of Building Information Modeling, (BIM) and structural design, using 3D profession modeling software Tekla Structure as the BIM platform to conform the software of structural mechanic analysis SAP2000.Tekla Structure is used to establish structural model, section information, material character, and standard of design. Then, the model is transmitted to the input of SAP2000 for the mechanical analysis and structural design. The result is returned to Tekla Structure to synchronization structural models. Keywords: building information modeling, structural design, structural analysis, fluid dampers. INTRODUCTION There are a lot of high buildings in Taiwan. Taiwan is on the site of seismic zone. In this research, using building information modeling to analysis and design of a ten story building which is installed by damper system after structure is well designed. And then the efficiency of the damper installation policy is discussed. Use Tekla Structure as building information modeling platform software, SAP2000 as mechanic analysis software. The model is subjected to El Centro earthquake in X and Y directions. The allowable stress method AISC-ASD 89 is selected as the structural design specification in the SAP2000 iteration design procedure. Additional aseismatic design is then performed by the installation of dampers in various policies by checking the displacement, velocity, acceleration, and control rate in the X-direction of the top floor for each of the cases. Tekla Structure, a building information modeling platform software on the establishment of a simple structure can fully integrate, beams, columns, and plates, and then transmits into SAP2000 without problems. If the structure contains special components, such as fluid dampers, it cannot successfully transmit directly to the Tekla Structure, but should be established by ourselves. The most efficient way to install damper in this case as concluded is setting the dampers at the fifth floor. MATERIALS AND METHODS In the case, Tekla Structure is used to model a ten story building, with 30 meters in total height and 3 meters height for each story, both of width and length in X- and Y- directions are 4 meters, as shown in the Fig. 1. Both of beams and columns are 100X100X6X8’s wide-flange cross section by A36 steel. The thickness of concrete plate at each floor is 20 centimeters and 280kg/cm²is selected as the yielding stress of the concrete. Figure 1. Schematic diagram The software package SAP2000 is used for the structural analysis and structural design. The ten story building is assigned to subject the 1940 El Centro earthquake both in X- and Y- direction. Columns and beams for each of the floors are group assembled. AISC ASD89 specification is selected in the design work. As the building is well designed dampers are installed in various policies on the building for the purpose of aseismatic. Totally 12 cases of installation policies are considered. For each of story, individually, two dampers with damping coefficient C as 2000kN-s/m’s are installed in X- and Y- directions. That will give us ten cases. The other two cases come from raw building and install 200kN-s/m’s damper uniformly at every floors both on X- and Y- directions. According to the result obtained in these 12 cases, another case by install 1000kN-s/m’s dampers on 5th and 6th floor as the 13th case is also analyzed for comparison. In addition, in the 13th case, input load is considered as 5 times of the El Centro earthquake. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION A ten story aseismatic building is designed by means of building information modeling platform. Computer software package SAP2000 and Tekla are linked for the purpose done. Various installation policies by viscous dampers are applied after the ten story building is well designed. Results are presented in natural frequencies and the displacements, velocities and accelerations at the roof point, with the comparison and control efficiencies of each cases. Figure 2. Displacement time history of raw building CONCLUSION 1. Experience of using BIM (building information modeling) The basic concept of BIM, the work presented is belongs a part of BIM’s application. Here are some of the experiences and ideas about this system. Tekla Structure is a valid software to model the considered buildings and structures. It is really convenience to establish the models of structures with complicated elements. But it still do not capable to model some of the special structural elements such as damper, isolation support… etc. That is why it fails to link the SAP2000’s design result returns to Tekla platform. SAP2000 is one of a popular structural analysis software with powerful analysis and design functions. But it still cost time to define the structural elements for complicated structures. 2. Investigation of control efficiency The control efficient when dampers are installed is investigated for the presented cases. Results show, as for the presented cases, when the dampers are installed on the 5th floor, it gives the best control results.

At present the building design’s tendency, from the tradition “the passive” energy conservation technique step to “the active” energy conservation equipment. Using the green energy vanguard technology improves building’s physical environment to achieve the building energy conservation. The is “the benign circulation” concept. The building conserves more energy to be more comfortable and the building is relatively more comfortable to conserve more energy. In the field of green energy, solar energy is a subject, may divide into there kinds of direction for solar technological application in building:(1) solar thermal energy, (2) solar photovoltaic, (3) light of sun. Application of solar thermal in building include building hot-water system、 building heating system and air-condition system. Application of solar photovoltaic mainly develops as BIPV (Building- integrated photovoltaic) as roof, wall and sunshading of building. Applications for light of sun utility are solar lighting and energy-efficiency glass. The study also takes the designer, the user and the solar energy manufacturer carries on the questionnaire survey as the object. The questionnaire content include the degree of cognition, satisfaction and aspiration. Demonstated after thr survey result that the cognition of solar energy application in building is poor for all survey candidate. The average degree of cognition is 49.75%. Moreover in the degree of satisfaction for solar hot-water system and energy-efficiency glass are both quit low, especially the item of price. Energy conservation is the most positive reason and price is the most negative reason for establishment of solar equipment. Finally reward and subsidy policy of government is the most important key role for marketing, developing and survival of solar manufacturers.

Taiwan to promote green building policy , in 1997 , commissioned by the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture Research Institute National Cheng Kung University , formally proposed four areas of nine indicators as a green building assessment system , including ecological Ecology ( including biological diversity, the amount of green , ground water and other indicators ) , waste Reduction waste Reduction ( carbon dioxide and waste reduction two indicators ) , health health ( including the indoor environment , water , sewage waste improvement three indicators) and other four categories , so the "Green Building " simply defined as " ecology, energy conservation, waste reduction , healthy buildings . " The case study with 2007 green building rating - basic (EEWH-BC) to obtain green building Diamond in the application of the indicators had good results. The purpose of this study is to understand the land application of green building techniques and for the assessment made by the user , with the findings of this study , there are the following two suggestions for researchers ( 1 ) This case study basic green building in Taiwan type obtain diamond mark , can provide a reference for future researchers and suggested reference to international -type indicators, such as : two indicators U.S. LEED indicators compared with each other . ( 2 ) use the results of this study to assess the use of questionnaires applies only to the IT industry , especially office buildings green building industry , and therefore subject to a number of limitations , researchers can compare the proposal with non-manufacturing office building with the future and analysis of the results of its assessment with the reference case is applicable to many researchers and after .

Building administration relies on many types of information, such as documents and maps. Traditional management information system (MIS) can maintain textual data well, but cannot support spatial data management. Geographic information system (GIS) is a good tool to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all forms of geographically referenced information. This study integrates the database technology and GIS techniques to enhance an existing building administration information system of I-Lan County government. The Yuan-Shan Village of I-Lan County is taken as an example to demonstrate the application of GIS to building administration. After analyzing the building licenses which contain building information in detail, as well as finding the relationship between building administration information system and GIS, this work adds web-based GIS capabilities to the I-Lan building administration information system. Furthermore, GIS techniques, such as overlay and buffer analysis, are employed in this work to illustrate urban development process and discuss the landuse situation.

In construction practice, include Building materials works and structural works costs are equivalent, but in recent years, BIM (Building Information Modeling, referred to as BIM) in quantity takeoff , most emphasis being in the quantity of structural works (concrete and steel) , less emphasis for works to quantity takeoff in Building materials works . Research of the actual construction project with the BIM modeling software tools, correct in identifying the building model , fitting-out works by trying to calculate quantity of habit, to extract from the BIM model, the takeoff quantity of Building materials works , the construction of the case than by traditional methods to takeoff quantity of BIM tools in the renovation of existing issues related to output, and thus verify the BIM tools to control the quantity takeoff Building materials works on the effectiveness. In order to correct output decoration area, this study suggests that use of the concept of software to component, specifically for the calculation of columns and beams area to build "coat." This "coating" and the columns, beams, slab, wall joints, based on the built-in software automatically deduct some of the functional re-Die, automatically coating the junction area of deduction .The actual case takeoff Building materials quantity works of BIM model element compare with by traditional methods to takeoff Building materials quantity issues, and thus verify the BIM tools to control takeoff quantity of Building materials works, of construction projects on the effectiveness . This study case showed that the completed version of decoration by element of BIM model into the population fitting columns , beams, slab and wall, after the completion element of BIM model extracted takeoff Building materials quantity was less than by correctly calculated the traditional formula 1% , verified by the BIM model to takeoff Building materials quantity fitting accuracy. Software developers should be to follow the construction method proposed in this study, beams and columns in the attribute field, an additional decoration material set in line with the "coating" function to make the building information model in takeoff Building materials quantity works to extract more convenient.

Insulation coating, composed of high polymer, can effectively reflect sunlight, decrease heat absorption and release the heat by radiation to insulate heat and decrease temperature for buildings. In order to compare reflection and insulation efficiency under the same temperature, the study adds mica powder and ceramic powder into insulation coating as stuffing materials. These two materials have the characteristics of heat resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion and anti-heat conduction. The low-temperature experiment shows that room temperature decreases from 43.7℃ to 35.2℃ and heat insulation efficiency improves 19.45% after adding stuffing materials on the surface of iron-covered building comparing to the one without coating. The high temperature experiment shows that room temperature of building by insulation coating with stuffing material decreases from 64.1℃ to 59.6℃with 4.5℃ difference and 6.6% to 27% energy saving. The study confirmed that the insulation coating with stuffing materials could effectively improve heat insulation and indoor temperature, and therefore reach the purpose of energy saving.

Taiwan sits on a geological sensitive area; too many mountains but fewer plains in this island. Our population distributed unevenly between cities and rural areas. Urban constructions were developed to reach the sky, buildings are built higher and higher, and foundations are dig down deeper and deeper. There are not enough spaces between buildings in Taipei city with high residential density. As course and effect, buildings might be damaged and sloped when surroundings dig open foundations easily. There are different righting methods can be used, each has its pros and cons. How to select an appropriate righting method in different environmental factors, in order to gain cost-effective and reduce second damage happened on buildings. By using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) to evaluate the engineering method of grout righting, and analyze its target value of the depth of ground improvement and the righting movement, in order to apply research result into engineering design projects. As the result from AHP evaluation, this research used DRJ(Double Packer Strainer、Rod method of Jacking) righting method in soft soil layers, In contrast to other two methods, DRJ would be more appropriated. Additionally, the target value of the depth of ground improvement and the righting movement could be applied on engineering righting projects’ calculation after analyzing through the research. Keyword:Buildings tilt, the centralizer work Act, building secondary damage, righting uplift target, effectively improve the depth
