Abstract:
Understanding and working with Microsoft Windows registry is an important ability from the perspective of security. This ability is used by malicious software as well as by software, which repaires the damage caused by activity of malicious software. However, applications accessing and working with the registry are platform dependent, which may not always be convenient and it can lead to other problems if the platform is not secure. Therefore, the aim of this work is to create a platform independent application for accessing and working with registry, which makes possible to analyse the effect of malware on registry.

Isaksson, Tonie. "DEVELOPMENT OF FATIGUE TESTING METHOD OF FORWARDER BUNK." Thesis, Umeå universitet, Institutionen för fysik, 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-156793.

Full text
Abstract:
The fatigue phenomena is one of the most common causes of failures in structural mechanics and is due to repeatedly applied loads. Komatsu Forest AB, one of the largest manufacturers of forest machines on planet Earth was in need of a fatigue life test of a forwarder bunk which exposes the bunk in a realistic way. Such a test extends the knowledge of the strength, but also, makes it easier to improve the evolution of the design. To develop this, knowledge about the movements, i.e. the accelerations of the forwarder and its load out in the field were of greatest importance. Therefore, measurements of angles, accelerations and strains were carried out, followed by analysis of correlations in order to know the cause of fatigue. The results showed that lateral acceleration as well as the tilting of the forwarder are responsible of the repetitive strains occurred during runtime. To simulate this in a test, a method which uses two actuators to apply forces supposed to lead to comparable strains of the bunk is developed. The method of equivalent fatigue load is used in order to simplify the more complex real life situation. Despite the complicated movement and forces on the bunks in the field, it seems possible to get an accurate fatigue test with only two actuators. The fatigue testing method showed both good and bad results of the strains at different positions. Some more refinements of the applied force components as well as the positions might be needed before such a test is executed.

Feintrenie, Laurène. "Entre forêts, agroforêts et plantations : analyse des dynamiques paysagères à Bungo, province de Jambi, Indonésie." Thesis, Montpellier 3, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010MON30102/document.

Full text
Abstract:
In the wider context of the agrarian transition in Indonesia, changes in landscapes are happening very quickly and generally at the expense of forested lands. In 2010, Bungo district presents a landscape mosaic, combining remnant forest patches to rubber and durian agroforests and monoculture plantations of oil palm and rubber. Agroforests are increasingly converted into monoculture plantations by farmers, in intend to enhance their income. This evolution rests on the investment of different categories of stakeholders – population, governments, industrial sector - who share a common interest in the economic development of the district. This thesis analyses in details the dynamics of rubber agroforests conversion to rubber and oil palm monoculture plantations. A multi-scale and transdiciplinary approach was used to articulate different spatial and social scales, from the cultivated plot to the extended family, from the village to the district, and to the broader international context. Local communities are willing to intensify their agricultural practices, and voluntarily participate in the development of monoculture plantations, in particular of oil palm. The conservation of forests and agroforests in not their concern, but one of the international community, represented by non governmental organizations and international conventions for the preservation of the environment

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this research is to demonstrate that collective identities are a performative phenomenon in constant redefinition and re-articulation (BUTLER, 1990), whose symbolic dimensions are constructed in the key-space of communication (LOPES, 2004). These processes involve speeches, texts, spaces, stage settings and performances which renovate the delineating narratives of \"imagined communities\" (ANDERSON, 2011). As an specific aim, this research focused on the relationship between the communication project of Bunkyo (Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture and Social Welfare) - founded in 1955 in the Liberdade district, in São Paulo city - and the construction of a Japanese-Brazilian identity and community, as the result of its efforts of fulfilling the mission (given by and to itself) of representing the Japanese immigrants and their descendants, and to preserve their cultural legacy in Brazil. Searching for institutional authority in its bonds with the Japanese government and imperial family, and for moral legitimacy in its \"duty\" and \"right\" to control their ancestors\' memory, Bunkyo carries out a \"politics of identity\" based on the \"truth of tradition\" and on the \"history\'s roots\" (RONSINI and OLIVEIRA, 2007). The communication project analyzed here consists of a vast apparatus with print, internet and audiovisual media, the Bunkyo\'s presence in the social media, and its constant promotion of festivities, celebrations and events where aspects of the social, cultural, religious, political and memorial universe of the Japanese-Brazilian community are spoken and dramatized, embracing an arch of time that encompasses the individuals\' lives in the present, their references in the past, and perspectives for their future. Taking into account the nature of the object of this analysis, the theoretical framework used here is comprised of authors from many disciplines, which implies understanding communication as a field of convergence of many social knowledges, \"without denying the specificity of the communication field\" (LOPES, 2009). Hence, theoretical resources such as discursive and performative aspects of identity in Butler (1990), Canclini (1997) and Hall (1995); memory as \"selective tradition\" in Williams (1979) and as \"the living bond with the eternal present\" in Nora (1993) were used, among others. As for the methodological approach, the narrative analysis used here was founded on authors such as Bruner (2001), Ricoeur (1980) and Motta (2005). In spite of the great transformations that Brazil and Japan had been through, and the impact of hybridization on national cultures (CANCLINI, 2012), the vastness and vigor of Bunkyo\'s communication project reveal that its perception of cultural distinctness and its desire to maintain it still persist, inspiring some kind of memorial and identity\'s militancy that mobilizes energy and resources for the creation of physical and virtual territories where socialization and symbolic exchanges can happen.

Proudfoot, Kathryn Louise. "Competition at the feed bunk during transition changes the feeding, standing and social behaviour of Holstein dairy cows." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/2426.

Full text
Abstract:
Transition dairy cows are vulnerable to negative consequences of depressed feed intake due to a transient state of negative energy balance that predisposes them to disease after calving. Competition has been identified as one factor that can decrease feeding activity in mid-lactation cows, but the effects of competition on the transition cow are less well understood. The objective of this study was to test the effect of a competition on the behaviour and feed intake of transition cows. Standing behaviour, feeding behaviour and dry matter intake (DMI) was monitored from 1 wk before to 2 wk after calving for 110 Holstein dairy cows. Social behaviour was recorded in the week before calving. Cows were assigned to a competitive (2:1 cows:bin) or non-competitive (1:1 cow:bin) treatment at the start of the study. Treatment groups were balanced for parity and baseline feeding data, resulting in 8 primiparous and 10 multiparous cows per treatment. Competition dramatically increased the number of agonistic behaviours between cows at the feeder. Primiparous cows showed no change in either feeding or standing behaviour when fed in a competitive environment; however, they increased their total meal duration and within-meal intervals in the wk -1 before and wk +1 after calving. In wk -1 before calving, competitively fed multiparous cows increased the frequency of visits to the feeder but consumed less feed at each visit, resulting in decreased daily DMI. Throughout the experiment, multiparous cows fed competitively spent less time eating at each visit and ate at a faster rate, particularly during the 2 wk after calving. Multiparous cows on the competitive treatment also increased the time they spent standing (without eating) compared to cows on the non-competitive treatment. Feeding rate was negatively correlated with social status in multiparous cows. In summary, the results of this study indicate that restricting access to the feeder increases agonistic behaviours regardless of parity, and cows of different parity and social status respond differently in terms of feeding and standing behaviour.

Abstract:
Pre regeneráciu a rast poranených nervových vlákien bolo preskúmaných mnoho postupov, no výsledný rast axónov je často náhodný až dezorganizovaný a odráža sa na zložitejšom zotavovaní pacienta. V tejto práci boli vyrobené nové skafoldy s mikroštruktúrnymi a mechanickými vlastnosťami nervového skafoldu pomocou metódy freeze-casting. Konkrétne boli vyrobené biokeramické skafoldy na báze fosforečnanov vápenatých, oxidu titaničitého alebo oxidu zirkoničitého. Pomocou kontrolovaného rastu ľadu v jednom smere bola pripravená orientovaná mikroštruktúra. Pozorovanie pomocou skenovacej elektrónovej mikroskopie potvrdilo lineárne orientované póry (lamelárny systém), v ktorých priemerná veľkosť pórov klesala so zvyšujúcou sa rýchlosťou mrazenia. Skafoldy pripravené pomocou mrazenia v tekutom dusíku vykazovali vynikajúce mechanické vlastnosti, kde pevnosť v ohybe bola získaná v rozmedzí 10–17 MPa. Tie isté skafoldy mali vzdialenosť medzilamelamelárnych priestorov 10–30 µm, ktorých parametre sú vhodné pre nervové skafoldy. Biokompatibilita bola vyhodnotená pomocou Schwannových buniek in vitro, kde bola pozorovaná adhézia a rast v lamelárnom smere. Cytotoxické testy odhalili negatívny vplyv vyššej koncentrácie vápnika na prežitie Schwannových buniek. Pripravené skafoldy mali schopnosť tvorby apatitu na povrchu v podobe embryonálnych a nukleačných centier a apatitu samotného. Skafoldy na báze fosforečnanov vápenatých a oxidu titaničitého vykazovali sľubné regeneračné vlastnosti, konkrétne adhéziu a rast prostredníctvom pórovitej štruktúry a taktiež vynikajúce mechanické vlastnosti.

This master’s thesis deals with the design of a robotic cell for the automation of woodworking machine tending. The task of the robot is to manipulate with the specified laminated chipboards of various sizes, before and after machining. The boards are brought to the cell on pallets in three possible placement variants. After a brief research part, conceptual designs of cell layout were created. The optimal and further elaborated design came as a result of selected evaluation criteria. The next part of the thesis consists of designs and selection processes of individual components. These were later used to create a simulation model in Tecnomatix Process Simulate software (Siemens), that helped to verify the functionality of the cell layout, design the control logic and acquire the time of the manipulation cycle used for informative calculation of annual production. In the end, the final design was evaluated from an economic point of view with an emphasis on the return of the initial investment.

Abstract:
The subject of the PhD thesis is the application of a transmission digital holographic microscope (DHM) which was designed and constructed in the Laboratory of optical microscopy at the IPE BUT for the research of live cells dynamics. First part of the work is concerned with theoretical description of the microscope imaging properties dependent on the coherence of illumination. It is supplemented with experiments of imaging of a model and a real biological specimen. The following part describes construction modifications and innovations of the microscope and its equipment that enabled the utilization of the microscope for live cells observations. In the experimental part the methodology of live cells preparation and DHM imaging was worked out. The methodology was verified by the observation of cell dynamics during an apoptosis induced by the cytostaticum cis-platinum. Further experiments examined the dynamics of live cells in standard conditions and during a deprivation stimulus. A novel method of holographically reconstructed phase, named \uva{dynamic phase differences}, was set up to evaluate quantitative changes of cell mass distribution during the experiments. Depending on the degree of malignancy and density of cell outgrowth, various schemes of cancer cells behaviour during a specific reaction were revealed using this method. For the quantitative analysis of the DHM phase imaging, a suitable statistical characteristic and an interpretation of the measured data were proposed. Both of them were successfully applied for the comparison of cell motility of two cell types: parental and progeny cell lines. On the basis of the proposed processing, hypotheses describing the reaction mechanism of tumour cells to stress life conditions were established. In the conclusions we summarize our findings and suggestions for the construction and the applications of a new generation of the transmission DHM.

Abstract:
On March 5, 1923, the morning edition of the Yomiuri shinbun carried an article titled ‘Jido no dokusho yoku to kinshi no hei’ (‘Children who read a lot risk short-sightedness’). The editorial, submitted by an anonymous subscriber from Tokyo, warned of the adverse effects of small print used by Bunmeidō, an Osaka-based publishing company specialising in sokkibon (stenographical novels). The article stated, ‘Didn’t the publishers know that the small print used in the diminutive size of the pocket novels was damaging to the eyes of the young?’ The author of the newspaper article went on to launch a scathing condemnation of young people reading for pleasure. Instead of working, young ‘ruffians’ were taking up space on public trams indulging themselves in trite literature. The irate author was referring specifically to the Tatsukawa bunko (Tatsukawa Library), a series of historical biographies published during the Taisho era (1912-26). These so-called ‘novels’ were, in fact, transliterated versions of kōdan (classical narratives) produced by a man called Tamada Gyokushūsai II (1856-1921), a kōdanshi (classical orator) from the yose (vaudeville theatre). Using original translations of Tamada II’s work, this study takes historical novellas published by the Osaka-based Bunmeidō publishing company as a focus for exploring key facets of the emergence of modern urban culture in imperial Japan.

Abstract:
Drawing on various aspects of media history, oral tradition, and pedagogical studies, my PhD research thesis — 'Tatsukawa: Orality, Ethics, & Regional Renaissance in Industrial Japan' (2015) — examines the effects of oral tradition on ethics in Japanese mass media. The Tatsukawa bunko (c.1910-25) published by Bunmeidô makes liberal use of gokiroku mono (feudal annals), stock characters like kyôkaku mono (‘men of honour’), sewa mono (poignant episodes of daily life), and shinkôki (stories of saints), all of which were integrated with kôdan (classical narratives) some time around the Muromachi era (c.1333-1573). During the late nineteenth century, these epic poems were frequently adapted for the commercial publishing market in the form of sokkibon (stenographical novels). Embedded in these works are the vocal rhythms of the kôdanshi (classical narrators) who performed them. Their popularity contributed much to the success of contemporary publishers in Japan like Kodansha, Iwanami Shoten, and many others still operating today. As a genre of literature rooted in an oral tradition, kôdan recognised the sanctity of the imperial institution. However, it also celebrated ethics associated with the samurai. Both aspects appealed to bureaucrats working in the Monbushô (Ministry of Education) tasked with creating a new state system of schooling after the imperial Restoration of 1868. Congruence between the Tatsukawa Bunko and educational texts published by the Monbushô demonstrate that oral tradition was alive and well during the early twentieth century in Japan. I argue that the interplay between oral and printed forms of kôdan provided an effective platform of learning for the working class, many of whom were cultural polyglots, able to easily shift their attentions between both forms. A significant part of my thesis examines the ideological messages embedded in both sets of literature.
