Abstract:
The war in Ukraine dealt a crushing blow to the country’s economy. The relevance of the topic is due to the marketing ability to be an effective tool for restoring and developing business in Ukraine. The paper aims to define the state and prospects for developing business and its marketing component during the war in Ukraine. The research analysis demonstrates that the share of business representatives who completely or partially ceased their activities during the first three months of the war decreased from 75.3% in March to 49.0% in May (compared to February 24, 2022), which is indicative of the gradual resumption of business in Ukraine. At the same time, it was found that in May 2022, the food retail, non-food retail, household appliances, and electronics sectors partially resumed their work. The best renewal rates are observed in the jewelry sector, and the worst – in the entertainment sector. A study of marketing activities in Ukraine shows that the most positive changes regarding gradual renewal are observed in digital marketing. The paper highlights the key consequences of hostilities for Ukrainian business and its marketing activities: supply chain disruption, reduced purchasing power, changes in consumer demand, stockpiling, and a state of uncertainty among business representatives. In addition, the study offers general approaches to adapting marketing and SMM during the war to preserve, restore, and further develop business in Ukraine.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the family business literature on human resource management (HRM) activities within family-owned businesses to advance theory and practice. Design/methodology/approach This paper is a review of research on the formation, adaptation, and termination of the employment relationship within family businesses. Findings Important areas for future research are revealed. For example, little research investigates how family members are recruited, socialized, or how exit decisions are made. In contrast, significant attention has been given to role transitions during succession. Research limitations/implications The paper focuses on managing employment relationships (e.g. recruitment, selection, etc.) within family businesses. The research revealed HRM activities within family businesses are often informal so aspects of the employment relationship may not be fully captured by extant research. Practical implications This review provides specific HRM suggestions for practitioners to consider. For example, this review highlights that training inside the family business can be as effective as training outside the family business. Originality/value This review is novel in applying an established HRM framework to family business research and focuses on HRM activities of family members as opposed to non-family employees. The paper offers considerations for families bringing next generation members into their businesses and preparing offspring to run them successfully.

Abstract:
Business-to-business (B2B) corruption, also known as private corruption, refers to unethical or illicit activities between private parties, without the direct participation of the state. Existing literature on the topic, while still limited, has taken several avenues, from qualitative studies to perception-based surveys and research experiments. Upon reviewing key studies and their findings, this article concentrates on research questions related to: business people’s perceptions on the determinants that favor B2B corruption in Romania, consequences of the phenomenon, and potential solutions. Findings are based on primary data collected through a 2019 questionnaire administered to 120 business leaders in Romania. Results confirm earlier studies’ findings that general context, malfunction of the institutions, and mentality favor B2B corruption, and that there is a lack of consensus among the business community on how to recognize and deal with various forms of B2B corruption, despite the widely spread belief that B2B corruption negatively affects business activities. Also, both internal and external solutions are considered to work against B2B corruption. The current article also opens new avenues in the literature, showing that: the probability to face B2B corruption increases with business leaders’ professional experience; preferences on how to deal with corruption cases vary based on a firm’s capital structure (domestic vs. foreign), reflecting the importance of organizational culture; and business leaders overwhelmingly want to fight against B2B corruption through both internal and external measures. Substantial progress, however, will require a proper common understanding by the private sector of what constitutes B2B corruption, including its causes, consequences, and remedies.

In 1540 Hernán Cortés arrived in Spain to continue his fruitless efforts to clear up the matter of his estate in the New World and his position in the eyes of the Spanish monarch. His activities in Spain along with the ill-fated voyage of Antonio de Ulloa up the coast of California in 1539 caused some drain on his financial resources. The many and varied business activities of Cortés, however, supplied him with income during the remainder of his life and set the stage for legal action over his estate.

В. ; Національний університет «Чернігівська політехніка», кафедра публічного управління та менеджменту організацій. – Чернігів, 2020. – 75 с.
Business planning is not a new phenomenon in Ukraine's economy. It is an integral tool of the business environment used to create a new business or project. The business plan describes the main aspects of the future project or enterprise, analyzes all the problems it may face, and provides ways to solve them. It is also the main document on the basis of which partners, investors and creditors provide the necessary investments. In a market economy, such a plan should be a planned program to study the market and competitors, risk, production and economic, financial activities and sales and ensure 8 the adaptation of the firm to new conditions. This approach involves the possibility and need to develop local business plans for individual projects, products (goods) and services. In crisis conditions, the business plan of the enterprise is designed, above all, to solve the problem of improving its financial condition. The concept of the system of internal business planning is to create a system of management and analysis of all areas of financial and economic activity of the enterprise, which meet the following requirements: ⎯ Development of a functional model of the enterprise with the allocation of basic business units and management functions; ⎯ Interconnectedness of a complex of receptions in horizontal and vertical section; ⎯ Reliability and timeliness of analytical information obtained as a result of the enterprise; ⎯ Qualitative analysis and detection of deviations as a result of plan-factor comparison; ⎯ Flexible and fast scheme of adaptation to changes of internal and external factors. Thus, business planning is a universal tool that can be used with different target settings. The theoretical and practical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated and summarized; thereupon the best ways to improve the effectiveness of drafting the business plans were developed. The theoretical fundamentals of enterprise business planning were investigated, and their essential characteristics were unified. The methodological principles of drafting the business plan were summarized, and the practice of business planning at LLC “LKT 2016” was analyzed. The proposals for business-planning improvement of the company under investigation in the context of adjusting to dynamic market changes were developed.

Abstract:
No business can effectively be managed without the proper management and information that reflects and creates the milieu it operates in. Business performance management creates the framework in which a structured approach can be followed in setting the scene for a predictive and controllable environment. Business intelligence creates the information structures; information relationships and a reflection of the value chain of the business. By combining the two methodologies it creates a total business solution that harmonises all aspects of value creation in an objective manner. The aim of this study is to conduct a thorough theoretical study on the relevant aspects involved in business performance management and business intelligence, and to assess the relationship of business performance management and business intelligence within the South African natural resource' mining and manufacturing sector. The various processes of business performance management and business intelligence are discussed in the literature study. During the literature research several approaches to business performance management implementations and the pros and cons of business performance management are discussed. A broad look at business intelligence is done, with key focus on delivering of information.
Thesis (MBA)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2012.

Taghavi, Atefeh. "A role clarity framework for gathering business activities." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/54009.

Full text
Abstract:
To date, requirement engineering (RE) studies have proposed several methods for efficiently gathering correct and complete requirements for developing information systems. As one of the most widely-used RE approaches, goal-oriented requirement engineering (GORE) determines requirements based on an organization's goals for its information system. GORE methods vary, but most do not clarify how they obtain the primary goals. To address this uncertainty, a few studies have introduced some guidelines. This researcher believes however that further investigation is required to improve organizational analysis, and thereby attain more accurate definition of goals for the information system. The first step in organizational analysis should be defining business activities of users. To achieve such understanding, this thesis develops a role clarity framework, that operationalizes the concept of role ambiguity drawn from two organizational theories: role dynamics (Kahn, Wolfe, Quinn, Snoek, & Rosenthal, 1964) and goal setting and task performance (Locke & Latham, 1990). According to the proposed framework, a role’s expectations, activities, and consequences are essential for describing a role’s business activities. Findings reveal that a role’s activities express the core of a role’s business activities. In addition, a role’s expectations and consequences contain contextual information supporting analysts in collecting and evaluating a role’s business activities. More specifically, expectations clarify the origin of business activities, and consequences enable analysts to verify current business activities and anticipate potential ones.
Business, Sauder School of
Graduate

He, Feihu. "Using patterns in conceptual modeling of business activities." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/4081.

Full text
Abstract:
Patterns are used as building blocks for design and construction in many fields such as architecture, music, literature, etc. Researchers and practitioners in the information systems area have been exploring patterns and using them in system analysis and design. Patterns found in the analysis stage, when analysts create conceptual models to abstractly represent domain reality, are call business patterns or analysis patterns. Although various business patterns were proposed in previous studies, we found that business semantics were missing in these patterns. These business patterns failed to show functionalities that is essential to patterns in general. Most of these patterns were also not capable of describing business activities, the dynamic aspect of business. This study is conducted to address these issues. In this thesis, we provide a brief literature review on business patterns, and discuss the major problems we found in these studies. Then we introduce our research approach and the major outcomes. We propose a new definition of business patterns with business semantics, which enables us to recover the missing functionality in business patterns. We suggest the key elements to represent business patterns, and propose a two-level template (functional and operational) to describe these elements. Based on theR²M approach, we propose a modeling method with graphical notations to describe the operational level of patterns, where business activities can be modeled. Examples and a case study are provided in this thesis to demonstrate how to use the modeling method and how to use business patterns in practice.

Schild, André Jacques Paul. "Marketing Activities during the early stages of business." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/45047.

Full text
Abstract:
This research is the result of a need within the entrepreneurial community, amongst both existing businesses as well as aspiring entrepreneurs, to pay attention to the marketing skills, abilities and activities required to navigate in the rapidly changing business environment in which they operate. It’s no longer enough that an entrepreneur only possesses the entrepreneurial will and drive to start an enterprise. In order to succeed and thrive, they require a skill set that needs to be employed from the beginning. The ability of the entrepreneur to successfully market their business, particularly in the early phases of development, is a crucial skill that can ensure the survival of the enterprise. The research comprised of sixteen in-depth interviews with existing entrepreneurs in South Africa, as well as four with experts in the fields of SMEs and Marketing. All of the interviews were conducted face-to-face, with the exception of one of the SME and Marketing experts, whose interview was conducted telephonically. The interviews followed a semi-structured discussion guide that allowed for variations in the discussion as required. A number of the entrepreneurs interviewed had not conducted any marketing planning in the start-up phase of their ventures, yet succeeded. The entrepreneurs did, however, practice ad-hoc marketing activities in the early stages of their business, as well as networking with customers, suppliers and their industry. It was also found that the respondents’ knowledge of how to market their businesses increased over time, and as their businesses matured, they allocated more significant resources towards marketing their businesses. The research project concludes that: whilst beneficial, upfront marketing planning is not essential for start-ups; networking and ad-hoc marketing is important for start-ups to practice; putting a significant allocation of resources towards marketing is valuable.
Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2014.
lmgibs2015
Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS)
Unrestricted

Abstract:
Information technology has substantially affected the existing industry and created new ones, enabling the development of businesses we would have never thought of before. The Internet has radically changed the way we do business and the way we interact with each other. At the moment a new technology is being developed that will supposedly have a similar disruptive effect over the current way we do and manage businesses. The innovation at issue is the Blockchain technology. This new system should create a cheaper, easier, and more efficient way of doing business with the advantage of being more secure than previous solutions. Blockchain is a public, trusted and shared ledger (The Economist). Shared since it is based on peer-to-peer network, meaning that it is not controlled or managed by a single individual, but by all its participants. It is available to all participants, hence public; and data cannot be manipulated without being noticed, which makes it a trusted ledger. This specific set of attributes, make the Blockchain technology not only more secure when managing sensible data, but also able to eliminate intermediaries when transferring information. Blockchain technology is usually associated with the virtual cryptocurrency “Bitcoin”, but the potential of it is not necessarily associated with them. Blockchain can be adapted to fit many industries and business models, but most importantly, it can be used to create organizations able to support themselves autonomously from a financial and organizational point of view. Decentralization, autonomy and Blockchain meet in what are defined as DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) that together with “Smart Contracts”, one of the most far-reaching application of the technology so far, are supposed to be able to replace several functions in the managerial sector. It is still unclear what the possible applications of this technology will be and what kind of consequences it will have on the business and non-business world. For now, the aim is to analyze the state of the art of the applications of this technology and study the direction this technology is moving toward. This thesis will study how the innovation will eventually be able to challenge previous assumptions on managerial models and how it will be able to create new ones.

Abstract:

Information technology is rapidly changing and companies are amending to the inevitable changes. Recently, the traditional Internet has started to evolve into a 3D Internet, thereby challenging companies into becoming more active in virtual worlds in order to keep up with the latest technology. In this thesis, the virtual world environment is highlighted from a v-business perspective to emphasize on potential opportunities and problems businesses face when entering virtual worlds. Moreover, the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds is discussed, based on interviews with companies that are active in virtual worlds jointly with observed phenomenon identified in the literature study. Since Second Life is one of the largest and most recognized virtual worlds up to present, having a resemblance with the real world, this virtual world has been selected to pose as an example in this thesis. Taking this into consideration, the aim of this research is to answer the following research questions:

* What kind of value has v-business added to companies operating in virtual worlds and what kind of impact has it had?

* What kind of complexities and restrictions have companies experienced with v-business in virtual worlds, and why have these occurred?

* What does the future look like for v-business in virtual worlds considering opportunities and problems related to such a business approach?

Consequently, the purpose of this thesis is to examine the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds, by investigating what opportunities and problems companies face in such a virtual setting, along with their predictions about its future development. Based on these findings an outline of the prospects of v-business will be developed.

Given that the area of this particular study is not yet broad in terms of research, the research has been conducted through an inductive approach using a qualitative method. Seven companies have been interviewed for this research and a majority of the company respondents have been interviewed through real-time communication using Skype.

The outcome of this research implies that there is great potential for v-business in virtual worlds, hence adding additional value to companies’ positioning on a yet unique environment. A number of possibilities have been identified where communication was identified as a major opportunity. In contrast, there are also current problems where technical restraints and comprehension problems were especially emphasized. However, in spite of some problems, companies report that they are in general very positive about the future outlook for v-business in virtual worlds, which is one of the reasons as to why we conclude that there is definitely a future awaiting for doing business in virtual worlds.

All this helps to build trust and shape long-term relationships with audiences in a highly competitive environment. The purpose of the publication is to outline the principles by which companies and their users share information and communicate with each other in the network. At the same time, the aim is to emphasize the importance of effective management of business PR activities, as well as to highlight the advantages and features of communication in the digital environment

Full text
Abstract:
This didactic unit is aimed at the fifth semester students of the Business Administration, Marketing and International Business program, who have already completed the four basic levels of the Open Lingua program. This proposal seeks to develop skills and competencies that allow them to perform in different fields related to private, public and solidarity economy companies, and in various mediation and negotiation processes at national and international levels. The instructional design of this unit contains real-life situations, focused on the world of business, that allow students to interact in various types of business events. The grammatical and lexical concepts, necessary to interact successfully in these types of communicative situations, are introduced and applied. The educational activities are designed to offer opportunities to interact in business conferences, international exhibitions, and seminars, among others. The contents are framed in natural and meaningful contexts. This leads to a greater understanding of the type of language used in business and the way it is used to communicate. The contents are structured in three lessons in which the level of complexity of the topics, tasks, texts and transitions (4Ts) have been considered. Also, various types of activities that activate and reinforce previous knowledge and that, subsequently, evaluate the progress of the students, are included.

Sabatelle, Jason, Adonis Caramintzos, and Jamie McCall. Small Business COVID-19 Lending Programs: Fostering Social Capital and Financial Stability. Carolina Small Business Development Fund, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.46712/covid.lending.

Full text
Abstract:
In times of crisis, investment in entrepreneurial ventures tends to decline. Early data suggest the decline in small business investments due to the pandemic will be historic in scope and depth. Community development lending practices aim to sustain small firms until they can resume their normal course of business. Affordable financing provides capital injections into small businesses which can help to cushion against COVID-19 induced economic shocks. Using Carolina Small Business Development Fund’s lending data as a case study, this analysis considers the effect of COVID-19 response programs. These activities are oriented towards creating a “social safety net” of Main Street businesses that boost social capital development, community trust, and financial stability. We believe the findings are likely generalizable to lending activities by other community development financial institutions.

Abstract:
This document discusses the effect of tax incentives on business activities and investment decisions. When taxation is not sound it hurts the business climate and hampers economic activities. Since the primary intent of tax incentives is to encourage capital accumulation in specific activities or locations, the question remains open if their extensive use will result in the desired response.

Each case study discusses how companies, associations, and governments at various levels have addressed market failures and facilitated the provision of public goods necessary for each activity. The case studies additionally profile first movers in each activity and describe the positive externalities they provide to imitators, particularly diffusion of export knowledge. Also include in each case study is a counterfactual case of a less successful activity (mangos, stem cell banking, and other types of business process outsourcing, respectively) and a section on policy implications.

Weller, Joshua, Gulbanu Kaptan, Rajinder Bhandal, and Darren Battachery. Kitchen Life 2. Food Standards Agency, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.wom249.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of the Kitchen Life 2 project is to identify the key behaviours relating to food safety that occur in domestic and business kitchens, as well as the factors that may reduce the likelihood to enact recommended food safety and hygiene behaviours. The outcomes will inform risk assessment and development of hypotheses for behavioural interventions. The goal of this literature review was to ensure that the research design and fieldwork techniques identify existing key behaviours, actors, triggers and barriers in domestic and business kitchens to develop successful behavioural interventions and risk assessment models. Additionally, we have included the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdowns on food safety practices in domestic and business kitchens. This addition is important because FSA policy response to the pandemic should address the needs of both consumers and food businesses due to reduced ability to deliver inspection and enforcement activities, business diversification (for example, shifting to online delivery and takeaway), increasing food insecurity, and change in food consumption behaviours (for example, cooking from scratch) (FSA, 2020).

Hirami, Naotaka. Working Paper PUEAA No. 2. Green Policy driven activities at Hiroshima University. Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Programa Universitario de Estudios sobre Asia y África, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.22201/pueaa.002r.2021.

Full text
Abstract:
The University of Hiroshima has decided to focus on how the organization of human societies and the problems generated by these, have impacted the environment, as well as the influence that these should have as factors in the so-called "green policies" in order to create sustainable development. It is through education, mainly in universities, that we seek to create not only awareness but also a research base on which to work and create support and working networks towards the labor and business sectors with an emphasis on environmental care. By creating an intersectional model, the necessary measures for environmental protection can be better understood and applied without neglecting human and economic development, which are equally important for the progress of societies. The activities presented by the University, and that seek to expand to Mexico, are a great opportunity to create such networks in the country and understand the development-environment interrelationship.
