Abstract:
The question of how best to serve students in a business writing center leads to a consideration of the rhetorical relationship among students, writing center consult ants, teaching faculty, and employers in the students' professions. Most rhetorical models consider only the writing center as occupying the middle ground between students and teaching faculty. A revision of that model, one in which the writing center and teaching faculty share the middle ground, is more appropriate for a business writing center. Moreover, writing assignments best serve business student writers when students must situate themselves within the discourse community of a post-graduation employer. Instead of fostering an adversarial relationship, business writing centers function most effectively for students when the center complements the classroom faculty.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the objectives, tenants, spaces and services of different business center concepts and test whether the existing classifications in literature and in the real estate market draw on significantly different concepts. Design/methodology/approach – After a literature review, data on business centers were collected with a questionnaire among owners/mangers of 139 business centers in the Netherlands. The existing business center concepts are examined whether these concepts are significantly different, using bivariate analyses. Findings – The findings of this study give insight into the business center market, the existing business center concepts and (dis)similarities between the concepts. Although many dissimilarities were found between the business center concepts, like offered services, social spaces and contractual agreements, findings show that the four business center concepts can be offered in similar objects. Originality/value – New ideas about working and the work environment have caused the business center market to become more differentiated. Some studies have attempted to classify the business center market into several categories or analyzed in detail one specific business center concept. However, these studies did not describe in detail the differences between the concepts. Also there is hardly any empirical research on this sector. This paper addresses gaps in previous research on business centers and demonstrates that there are significant (dis)similarities between the existing business center concepts.

Abstract:
Service quality performance is benchmarked at business‐to‐business and business‐to‐consumer call centers. Differences between call center types are observed including characteristics of operation, customer ratings of service quality performance, and employee ratings of workplace issues. Business‐to‐business call centers are challenged by customers who have higher expectations for service performance and who are more critical evaluators of organizational service performance. Implications for customer and employee satisfaction and loyalty are discussed.

Abstract:
In this article, the authors discuss how business continuity methodologies can be used by data centers to respond to natural disasters, man-made disasters, and accidents. Because organizations depend on computing services, which may become unavailable when disasters strike, prudent risk management processes can provide for continuation and recovery of operations. With a focus on data centers, this article discusses the business continuity plan development process. This article also considers elements of a business continuity management plan, which includes strategy development, preparedness, mitigation, exercises, and response and recovery, and discuss business continuity strategies for colocation and cloud-based data center architectures. Finally, the authors discuss how the ordered weighted average (OWA) methodology can be used to incorporate a decision makers risk profile when confronted with decisions related to the processes discussed.

Abstract:
This thesis explores the development of an interdisciplinary design incubator and community business center in Richmond, Virginia through the adaptive reuse of a retired, historic school building. In contrast to the deteriorating conditions of Patrick Henry School, renewed growth abounds in its extraordinary site surroundings—the 105 acres of Forest Hill Park, which serves as the virtual backyard of the school building. This dualism provided a prime opportunity for discovering the design possibilities in connecting a built space to its physical surroundings and for giving meaningful new life to an abandoned space.

Abstract:

This business plan proposes a health promotion center to help educate low-income families in Compton suffering from obesity on how to begin and maintain weight loss. Obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in adults and children. By creating a family and community-based center that provides individualized and group nutrition and fitness services, the rate of obesity can be significantly reduced.

The center which will be located in east Compton will operate as a non-profit organization. It will offer nutrition and fitness services through certified nutritionist and fitness specialist with emphasis placed on gradual weight loss. Meal planning, label reading and training, and grocery store tours are some of the nutrition services that will be offered, while aerobic training and weight training will be part of the fitness service. There will be a life coach and an on-site daycare at the center. The life coach will help potential families establish their weight loss needs, while the on-site day care will provide care for children while families exercise. Services will be offered at reduced prices, and payment will only be made out-of pocket.

Eastman, Benjamin Charles, Benjamin Arrington, Daniel Ference, and Darren Thompson. "Resourceful Energy: McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship Business Plan." Thesis, The University of Arizona, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/229792.

Full text
Abstract:
Resourceful Energy is a startup venture set to engage in value-added applications for 900 tons of scrap tires discarded annually in the state of Arizona. Resourceful Energy will collect, sort, and process scrap tires into a Tire-Derived Fuel (TDF) compound. The processed TDF will be sold to cement factories, power plants, and industrial manufacturers in the Arizona region as an environmentally friendly substitute to coal fuels. TDF burns cleaner and more efficiently than coal and is significantly less expensive. The EPA-supported fuel is a technology that has yet to penetrate the Arizona industrial market as other companies have focused their efforts in more concentrated metropolitan areas. Resourceful Energy will turn the state’s own supply of scrap tires into one of its most valuable sources of industrial fuel. While TDF is the main product offered to our customers, our business model includes three separate revenue streams. A $2.50 per-tire fee will be assessed when tires are collected from local tire retailers. This service revenue contributes nearly 70% to our total annual revenue. The tires collected will be sorted, and those with remaining useful tread will be sold to local used tire outlets for $8.00 per tire. Finally, the remaining inventory of scrap tires will be fed through a series of shredders and conveyors and packaged as TDF to be delivered to cement manufacturing plants. Additionally, we will engage in research and development projects aimed to identify additional innovative applications for recycled tire rubber. In year 1 we project an EBITDA of $180,000. We expect to sell the company in year 5 with an EBITDA of $1,800,000. Based on our research of Waste Management and Allied Waste the benchmark P/E ratio for our industry is 17.5. Using this ratio, our year 5 value will be $32,000,000. We have calculated that the pre-money value of the company will be $1,200,000 after the $200,000 of founder’s investment has been spent and $400,000 has been raise through investors. The success of our venture relies heavily on securing a contract with one of the state’s largest new tire retailers. We are currently pursuing letters of intent from Discount Tire and Big O Tire, highlighting our lower price, convenient and consistent pick-up schedule and marketed environmental partnerships as the main benefits. Our financials rely on the assumption that we have secured Discount Tire as our first partner through year 3. In year 4 we expect to add Big O Tires as our next major client.

Barrera, Vicente. "We Care Adult Daycare center, LLC business plan." Thesis, California State University, Long Beach, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10141514.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose of this business plan is to explore the possibility of a community-based adult daycare center in the city of Norwalk, California. The city of Norwalk is experiencing a steady growth of aging seniors (65 years of age and over) in need of a community-based coordinated care program that can assist caregivers with respite time and provide the continuum of care for their aging loved ones. Market research on the aging population of Norwalk indicates that there is currently 10,602 elder adults 65 and over living in the city of Norwalk, with about 1,590 of them at risk of being institutionalized. In addition, the market research also shows that only two licensed adult daycares exist in the city of Norwalk and serve about 2 percent of the aging population that are at risk of being institutionalized. Therefore, We Care Adult Daycare has the potential to enter the adult daycare market and establish a community-based adult daycare in the city of Norwalk. We Care Adult Daycare will operate as a for-profit limited liability company owned by three investors. According to We Care Adult Daycare’s business plan, the breakeven analysis shows that the company will be profitable after the first year of operation. Estimated sales are projected to grow at a 2.5 percent monthly rate and at the end of three years, will present a company revenue of about $440,006. We Care Adult Daycare will be able to provide a community-based adult daycare center in the city of Norwalk.

Abstract:
Customer feedback has become an important policy instrument in the business company, and it is essential for the customer base and policy development. One of the evaluation methods of customer satisfaction and loyalty can be the reports that are created in the company's customer support center. Therefore, companies must maintain a high number of customers to be efficient and successful. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a linear programming based technique for measuring the relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) where the presence of multiple inputs and outputs makes comparisons difficult. In this paper, the DEA method evaluates the efficiency rate of customer service in 29 call center companies. The study was conducted based on the obtained data for service performed through the telephone. DEA research is based on the data available for the period from September 2017 to April 2019. The main goal of this analysis is to determine which customer-suport call centers in the world are efficient and which are inefficient. Based on the results,, it was established that a small number of centers are efficient in the observed period. Furthermore, for inefficient centers, comparing those to efficient ones, the DEA method is giving us information why they are inefficient and could direct the future development policy.
