Abstract:
Purpose – In the context of digitalization in healthcare and Swedish demographical development, the importance of meta-organizational decision-making can be discussed. This paper studies the decision-making processes in a national meta-organization which members face the current challenges of Swedish public healthcare. Therefore, this paper aims to contribute to meta-organizational decision-making. Design/methodology/approach – This paper has a qualitative approach and is based in abductive reasoning towards theory and research. Data has been collected from interviews, podcasts and documents that describe the decision-making process in the meta-organization. Findings – Our empirical findings show that the decision-making process of the metaorganization is complex, time-consuming and aims to provide consensus before its members' decisions. To reach consensus, the meta-organization uses various coordination and collaboration activities and groupings such as networks, workshops, expert panels, and conferences. Practical implications – Both informal and formal activities and groupings are considered important in reaching consensus. Furthermore, both formal and informal groupings help to overcome interest-conflicts such as differing priorities. It is also important the metaorganization provide an arena where all members feel that the can contribute and influence the decision-making process, regardless of size or resources. Originality/value – Because of dichotomic views on the importance of consensus in decision-making in meta-organization, and from calls for future research, this study can be argued to be of interest. Furthermore, digitalization and demographical development suggest that the healthcare sector is in current and significant change. Keywords – decision-making, meta-organizations, digitalization, demographics, healthcare, coordination, interest-conflict, consensus Paper type – Research paper, master's thesis

Abstract:
This study analyses the possible impact of the European Union (EU) on the development of the relations between business interest groups and the government in Turkey, more precisely on the interventions of the business interest groups in domestic policy-making. Hence it deals with the links between the progress of the relationship between Turkey and the EU and the development of domestic interest group activity in Turkey.

The progress of Turkey’s relations with the EU enhanced the visibility of the Turkish Peak Business Organizations (PBOs) in representing Turkish business interests in Brussels. Moreover, the evolution of the activities of the PBOs, provides a broader understanding of the developments of the general characteristics of the relations between the government and business interest groups in Turkey. Hence the investigation focuses on the major Turkish PBOs.

We examine the relations of Turkish PBOs with the EU, essentially, on the basis of the observation of their transnational actions within the EU as well as their participation in financial and technical assistance programmes of the EU and in the joint institutional structures of the association regime between Turkey and the EU. By analysing these two dimensions we assess the repercussions of the socialization of the Turkish PBOs on their strategies of action in dealing with European Affairs, on discourses they adopted regarding domestic policy-making and on their organizational structure and policy agenda.

We elaborate our topic with reference to the Europeanization concept, which covers the examination of the consequences of the European governance on national systems. Through the Europeanization concept we observe the correlation between the progress of the Turkey-EU relations and the ongoing process of change in the patterns of interventions of the Turkish business interest groups in domestic policy-making.

Abstract:

Objective: In this thesis, we assume that the organizations' interests are governing their behavior/positions. It seems possible to draw conclusions about organizations'interests on the basis of the behavior / positions that will appear in the givenopinions on Swedish Public Investigations. The purpose of this thesis is toidentify self-interests of the studied organizations as they appear in their givenopinions.

Method: The authors have made a qualitative and quantitative study of the opinions.

Theoretical perspective: The basis of the study is the organization theories that focus the self-interest oforganizations.

Empiric: Information is taken from four Swedish Public Investigations: the New Company Act, International Accounting for Swedish companies, Abolition of the audit requirement for small and medium sized enterprise and Simplified accounting. Altogether 310 opinions have been given on these, out of which we have studied 59. Furthermore, we have collected information on tasks, activities and objectives from the websites of the opinion giving organizations.

Conclusions: In the literature, we found, as mentioned, that organizations havet hree self- interests which we define as general self-interests. They are the interest in survival, resources and power. We have found - what we believe – an additional general self-interest of organizations, namely the interest to avoid accountability and transparency. It was possible to divide the organizations intogroups with high community of interest within each group while the community between the groups was low. This provides an empirical support to Dimaggio’s and Powell’s theory which says that organizations in specific areas are similar. This means that it is possible to study the interest of organizations, without studying the individuals in an organization. We found that the owner's interests expressed in tasks, activities and objectives of the organization are important factors affecting the organization's interest structure. We also found indications - however unclear - that the public interest has an impact on the organizations' self interests. We also found an interest to protect its own market which can be related to the general interest of resource influx under Pfeffers and Salanciks theories of resource dependence.

Funke, Michael. "Regulating a Controversy : Inside Stakeholder Strategies and Regime Transition in the Self-Regulation of Swedish Advertising 1950–1971." Doctoral thesis, Uppsala universitet, Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen, 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-260201.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis concerns the development of the self-regulation of advertising in Sweden from 1950 until 1971. Self-regulation was initiated in the 1930s due to a business desire to regulate fair competition in marketing, and while it initially was a minor operation, the 1950s and 1960s were characterized by extensive development. When self-regulation was overtaken by state policies in 1971, it included several interlocking systems, of which parts survived the introduction of the state regime. The thesis’ aim has been to analyze how the rapid regime transitions in the self-regulation regime can be understood. The existing literature identifies four major transitions that occurred during the studied time period. To understand them, the thesis has studied the policy processes leading up to these transitions. Focus has been on the business interest organizations that controlled the regime and their regulatory strategies. Theoretically, the analysis has departed from the hypothesis that tensions between these organizations, due to their members’ different market interests and varying levels of exposure to regulation and public badwill, to a significant degree informed their strategic choices as well as policy outcomes. The results show that the policy processes preceding the regime transitions were characterized by internal tensions, whereby organizations representing advertisers, and to a lesser degree media carriers, due to their members’ higher level of exposure to regulation and public badwill, successfully supported stronger market policing, while ad agencies, being less exposed, as well as a peak industry organization for the proliferation of marketing largely opposed such measures, preferring a more lenient regulation. However, due to increased exposure to regulation and bad will, the ad agencies finally abandoned their opposition and took the lead in regulatory innovation through the introduction of an extensive clearance program that survived the launch of the state regime, becoming a key component in the co-regulatory structure that followed.

Abstract:
Were studied in this dissertation the alternatives in organizational structure which could be adopted in electronic business (e-business) in traditional companies, mainly focusing this structure’s centralization or decentralization analysis. In the brief existing bibliography specifically about organizational structure for e-business, it is clear that exists a range of options in terms of structure choices, from creating an independent “dot com” company, to the decentralization of the e-business through the business units. In the case studied in this dissertation, firstly were identified the e-business initiatives practiced in the company and were discussed the adoption process of these tools. After that, the evolution of the structure created for e-business was analyzed, from the beginning to the application moment of this research. It was possible to identify that the initially delineated attributions for e-business are not rigid and are not uniformly realized by all of the business units. As the studied company was discussing the decentralization of the eCommerce Department, the timing for the centralization or decentralization analysis was very appropriate. The company identified three alternatives of structure, as well as the criterions for an in depth analysis. The centralized eCommerce structure alternative was the most recommended, considering the limitations of the methodology, properly presented and discussed in the text. More than the final recommendation of the analysis made, which interests only for the studied company, the applied methodology is one of the mainly contributions of this dissertation. With the needed modifications, this methodology can be useful in other real situations, helping the managers in this complex decision about which degree of decentralization to adopt in e-business.

Abstract:
The Internet has made a considerable impact on how business is conducted. Empowered by technology consumers are using the Internet as a tool to communicate and transact online. E-commerce (electronic commerce) presents opportunities for business to gain a competitive advantage, however it also posses certain challenges. Small and Medium Hospitality Enterprises (SMHEs) sector within the tourism industry, is one of the sectors which stands to benefit from using the Internet for business. Researchers agree that the contribution made by the tourism sector in developing economies is substantial. However, SMHEs are noted for their failure to derive optimal benefits from using the Internet for business to improve their competitiveness. This study which seeks to develop a model for use by SMHEs as a guide when making the decision to adopt technology was necessitated by the importance of SMHE’s contribution in the economy of developing countries. This model is based on the examination of existing theories and models such as; the Delone and McLean IS success model (2004), and the ITGI’s (2007) IT governance focus areas model. To elicit the desired outcomes, additional data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The collected data was analysed and resulted in the development of a model that can be used by SMHEs in order to derive value from IT and to gain a competitive advantage.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine how organizations communicate on Facebook during a crisis, from a relationship management perspective, and how their interactivity, responsiveness, and transparency affect their Fan page's relevance, importance, and appeal. In this study, the researcher conducted a controlled experiment to examine if a strategized Facebook Fan page that contained a high level of interaction, responsiveness, and transparency contributed to long-lasting relationships with fans or helped organizations recover/prevent a crisis. The researcher created eight different conditions (Facebook Fan Pages) presenting a crisis message, and recruited 200 students (25 participants per condition) from the University of South Florida (USF) to participate in the experiment. The findings did not demonstrate exactly what the research study was designed to find. The individual hypotheses were not supported during the ANOVA tests, except Hypothesis 1a. The ANOVA tests showed that the high vs. low interactivity, high vs. low responsiveness or high vs. low transparency did not have a significant effect on a Fan page's relevance, importance, and appeal. The variables did not have an independent influence, and they did not show any significance standing alone. However, the ANOVA tests surprisingly revealed a dramatic three-way interaction effect of all three independent variables on relevance and importance.

Abstract:
The Internet-of-Things (IoT) brings machine-to-machine communication to a global scale together with new business scenarios and inter-relationships. If compared to previous communication technologies, IoT transforms the traditional value chain and creates a different business ecosystem. In this scenario, incumbent telecom companies are taking the role of technology enablers to enter the market. These companies are trying to find ways to generate new value propositions and to position themselves along the IoT-specific value chain. To do that, incumbents need to overcome a number of external and internal challenges. The purpose of this research is to investigate those challenges from the perspective of an incumbent telecom company via a case study carried out at Ericsson. This Thesis is built on the theoretical foundations of innovation management and business model innovation. The research behind is based on academic literature, opinions from industry experts, market analyses, and qualitative data collected from several interviews and online resources. The outcome from this study remarks some major external and internal challenges faced by incumbents. From the internal perspective, the challenges are related to enable the structures within the company to make possible the development of IoT as a radically new business area. On the external side, the main challenges shift from entering the market and position themselves in the new IoT value chain, to the development of unprecedented relationships, innovative value propositions and a new business paradigm. In order to do that, companies need to understand the unexplored IoT ecosystem, find needs and opportunities via partnerships and develop joint business models. This work provides specific data to complement the scarce literature around the topic of IoT business models and challenges for incumbent companies. It offers practical help to guide managers to understand the nascent IoT market, to define adoption strategies and to find their way through the emerging ecosystems.

Abstract:
The issues of zakah and interest for IFIs have been highlighted for several years and attracted many arguments among Islamic scholars and public. The increasing public interest on the Islamic Banking since 1970s has been driven by the increasing sensitivity among Muslims to the relationship between religion and economic activities. With the emergence of IFIs, Muslims community has demanded for an establishment of an accounting body to develop a set of accounting standards that adhere to the Islamic tenets, hence AAOIFI was established. However, the journey of AAOFI in achieving such objective has not been smooth. This paper intended to study the effectiveness of AAOIFI in dealing with the issues of zakah and riba for IFIs by examining the disclosure practice of 25 IFIs worldwide. Based on the analysis conducted, it is concluded that the extents of disclosure by the IFIs are much lower than the AAOIFI requirements. The study also found that leverage and origin factors might contribute to the level disclosures of zakah and financial products. In addition, the test performed also revealed that the adopters of AAOIFI do provide more disclosure as compared to the non-adopters. However, the mean result is relatively low to suggest full compliance with the AAOIFI standards.

Lee, Hoan Soo. "Essays on Applied Microeconomics." Thesis, Harvard University, 2013. http://dissertations.umi.com/gsas.harvard:10837.

Full text
Abstract:
Empirical and theoretical topics in applied microeconomics are discussed in this dissertation. The first essay identifies and measures managerial advantages from access to high-quality deals in venture capital investments. The underlying social network of Harvard Business School MBA venture capitalists and entrepreneurs is used to proxy availability of deal access. Random section assignment of HBS MBA graduates provides a key exogenous variation for identification. Being socially connected to peer venture capital firms and private equity seeking startups leads to more deal flow, larger asset under management and better performance in the inaugural funds of HBS-executive run venture capital firms. The second essay presents a two-stage model of competing ad auctions. Search engines attract users via Cournot-style competition. Meanwhile, each advertiser must pay a participation cost to use each ad platform. Advertiser entry strategies using symmetric Bayes-Nash equilibrium that lead to the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves outcome of the ad auctions are derived. Consistent with the model predictions, empirical evidence shows that multi-homing advertisers are larger than single-homing advertisers. Comparative statics on consumer choice parameters, quality, and user welfare are used to analyze the prospect of joining auctions to mitigate participation costs. The analysis provides conditions when such joins do and do not increase welfare. The third essay develops and computes a dynamic model of search in internet advertising. Micro-level browsing data from Microsoft's Bing.com (formerly known as Live.com) is used for structural estimations. The model predicts that users do not click on any ad with weak signals due to accumulating search cost and monotonicity of the value function. Rational search reveals a cascading pattern: the user clicks on a sufficiently high, highest-signal ad first, then moves on to the ad with the next highest conditionally expected probability of match once his assessment on the current ad degrades over time. The user exits when maximum assessment of likelihood of match over all ads is below a threshold value. The essay provides a novel approach to understanding rational herding behavior when product quality is only partially unraveled.

Al, Abbasi Hawazin. "Organizational Information Security: Strategies to Minimize Workplace Cyberloafing for Increased Productivity." ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4773.

Full text
Abstract:
Productivity loss occurs in organizations that experience high levels of personal Internet use by employees on company time, which includes employees using smartphones to surf without needing the firm's Internet connection. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore reliable ways for organizational leaders to monitor or limit their employees' use of smartphone technology for personal use (cyberloafing) while on the job to minimize wasted work time. Social cognitive theory, which includes an emphasis on human behavioral changes based upon the environment, people, and behavior, served as the conceptual framework. The general research question was as follows: How can managers minimize wasted work time by limiting the personal Internet activity of employees who use personal mobile devices while on the job. Data collection involved gathering information from interviews with 20 frontline supervisors, human resource managers, and information technology managers and specialists in 2 U.S. industries: education and telecommunications. Data analysis included examining word frequencies, keyword coding, and identifying themes. Four management themes emerged: create mobile device usage policy, enforce monitoring technology, create a deterrence strategy, and customize monitoring and tracking technology. This study may be important because the analysis revealed effective ways to prevent or minimize employees from Internet surfing and wasting time at work. The findings could lead to positive social change through increased employee productivity and responsibility by providing managers with information to control or limit cyberloafing activities and by fostering an increased commitment to comply with an organization's Internet use policy.

Abstract  Linnaeus University – Campus Kalmar School of Business and Economics Leadership and Management in International Contexts (60 credits)  Title: Transformational Leadership in the Chinese Culture – A Quantitative Study on the Impact of Transformational Leadership on Chinese Internet Companies’ Performance.  This research aims to study how transformational leadership affects organizational performance and the mediation effect of employee voice behaviour. A quantitative research method and a deductive research approach were used for this research study, where theoretical concepts were developed. Several hypotheses were derived as means to test the existing theories regarding research variables. The data in this research was collected through a 384 completed online survey questionnaire from employees of the top ten listed Chinese internet companies. Various statistical techniques, including Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression analysis, and mediation effect testing, were implemented to provide evidence for hypothesis testing. The statistical analysis results indicate that a particular dimension of transformational leadership positively impacts Chinese internet companies’ performance, and employee voice behaviour has a partial mediation effect in this relationship.

Holguin, Emilsen Salazar. "Strategies Functional Managers Use to Control Cyberloafing Behaviors." ScholarWorks, 2016. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/2604.

Full text
Abstract:
Computer technologies have increased the opportunities for employees to engage in cyberloafing by using the Internet at work for personal purposes. Uncontrolled cyberloafing is a threat to organizational effectiveness because it affects organizational productivity. The purpose of this single case study was to explore successful strategies functional managers use to control cyberloafing behaviors of their employees at an e-learning organization located in the northeastern United States. The theory of planned behavior, which emphasized behavioral, normative, and control beliefs as key elements to predict individuals' intentions to behave was the conceptual framework. Data collection included semistructured face-to-face interviews with 11 functional managers and an exploration of organizational policies, procedures, and handbooks. Data analysis included examination of word frequencies, keyword coding, and theme identification. Using Yin's 5 steps for data analysis, 3 themes emerged: create engaging jobs, communicate clear expectations, and promote a positive work environment. Functional managers in the e-learning organization in this study may control cyberloafing by ensuring that social norms convey disapproval, combining deterrence policies and performance metrics; and showing attitudes that promote citizenship behaviors. The implications for positive social change include the potential to provide the e-learning organization in this study with best practices that support employees' needs for work-life balance, thus promoting employee satisfaction while maximizing employee productivity. As a result, the findings of this study can decrease stress, increase morale and positively impact the overall well-being of the organization's workforce.

Abstract:
Aim: The aim for this study is from an agent theoretical perspective generate comprehension of how the separation of ownership and control seems in a Swedish mutual organization as well as what consequences this leads to and what solutions the organization is working with. Method: The study is characterized by an abductive approach. The study takes the form of a case study aimed for research of a specific mutual organization. The collected data is a result of semi-structured interviews that has been analyzed with a thematic analysis. Result & conclusions: We anticipate both a large separation of ownership and control as well as a small one. The larger one is due to a scattered ownership that results in a greater extent of information asymmetry. The separation also tends to get smaller due to the establishment of the council, that the organization operates locally and due to the reinvests in the local community. Suggestions for future research: Suggestions for future research is to generate comprehension of which impact mutual organizations experiences from the fact that two parties, customer and owner, are held within the same individual.   Contribution of the thesis: The theoretical contribution is to increase knowledge about mutual organization and their management of separation of ownership and control. The practical contribution is to distribute knowledge to the respondents as well as other stakeholders of the examined organization. Our ambition is also to increase interest for committed owners. Key words: mutual organization, Agent theory, separation of ownership and control, information asymmetry, conflict of interest

Abstract:
Research in Management Science and Information Systems has proposed a series of work centered around the benefits of social networks for individuals and the adoption process that it entails. However, social network uses are numerous and each of them deserve in-depth studies. Specifically, the practice of content curation becomes truly relevant in a context of digital transformation. It proposes a new social network use that can benefit the organization. Thereby, the research opts to gather the concept of social network, curation and organizational knowledge through the following question: how does profesionnal content curation on social network participate to organizational knowledge ? This question has been sub-divided into three questions, allowing different multi-level analysis. The first one questions the influencing factors of social network curation for individuals ; the second one interrogates the benefit of using social network tool to operate content curation ; the third one combines both concepts in an organizational context with the aim of clarifying its benefits. Media Richess Theory, Social Presence Theory, UTAUT and SLAM Framework has been used to bring an answer to them. 841 questionary respondants along with 14 semi-directional interviews sufficed to confirm positive link betwen the adoption of social network curation and improvement of individual and collective knowledge. To reach organizational knowledge, the research demonstrates that informatio flows and the different stocks of knowledge need to be aligned

Abstract:

"ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNITY CHARACTERISTICS AND BARRIERS TO ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: ADDRESSING THE ROLE OF COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE, LANGUAGE, AND MENTAL MODELS IN ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE." 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10222/14072.

Full text
Abstract:
The current state of organizational environmental management is inadequate to face the risks posed by the natural environment such as resource scarcities resulting from natural, social and/or economic processes such as increases in extreme weather events, natural resources-based conflicts, regulatory restrictions, or trading commodities fluctuations. These changes to the organizational environment call for adaptation so that we may maintain our ability to produce and function sustainably. Organizations need to adopt practices and processes that consider the natural environment. The adoption of environmental management practices and processes has, however, met barriers. Faced with initiatives that promise considerable financial and environmental benefits, research has reported resistance to buy-in. I suggest that perception barriers, imbedded in language, have a role to play in this lack of change. I propose that individual’s mental model of the organization filters information for decision-making based on language. I suggest that the linguistic repertoire of communities of practice is used to filter information relevant to organizational decision-making. A quantitative study showed that differences in community of practice linguistic repertoires are found between the environmental and business communities. In addition, varying levels of familiarity with the repertoire of a community of practice were explored to determine whether community membership is reflected in the linguistic repertoires of individuals. The results suggested that the familiarity of graduate students with the linguistic repertoire of the community of practice they were studying was more akin to membership in a community of interest than a community of practice. In addition, the results suggested that environmental and business communities held opposing sets of relevant linguistic repertoires, providing grounds for communication barriers. Finally, in addition to exploring language’s potential as a barrier and opportunity for change, the in individual’s mental models ability to change was explored. Through case study observations, I showed that a change in the individual’s mental model of the organization could result from participation in an eco-efficiency program. The participants, high-level decision-makers in the organizations, introduced the natural environment as a new aspect to their future decision-making process following participation. Contributions to management and social theory are also discussed.

Abstract:
Over the last few years, the manufacturing sector has changed and is continuing to change due to the use of new technologies resulting from the advent of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), such as the Internet of Things (IoT), technology whose importance is becoming increasingly recognized by citizens, businesses and governments and which is proving capable of changing not only our daily way of life, but also the way companies carry out their activities, redefining the relationships between companies themselves and their customers, employees and partners. This technology also allows the exploitation of new Industrial Analytics processes, which allow companies to perform a systematic computational analysis of data and statistics in order to better interpret such data, applying models that make the decision-making process more effective. The goal of this thesis is to develop a new business model for Industry 4.0 based on Industrial Analytics. This model intends to act as a starting point and help for all those companies that want to install IoT solutions or platforms based for Industrial Analytics. The methodology used to achieve this goal has consisted in administering a questionnaire to 3 companies, with the aim of understanding how these companies are changing their way of doing business thanks to the advent of the IoT, of Industrial Analytics. and other technologies that are part of the Industry 4.0 context. The analysis of the responses to the questionnaire was the basis for the development of the business models of the three companies interviewed. Finally, by comparing the three models, a new business model for Industry 4.0 based on Industrial Analytics was developed.

Abstract:
The macro-structural context in which enterprises operates these days is highly challenging. Markets are increasingly competitive and the notion of distance is disappearing. Facing an increasingly competitive scenario, companies have to adopt internationalization strategies that enable them to consolidate in domestic and foreign markets and simultaneously acquire new customers at new locations. The internationalization process is part of an important business strategy and has implications and is influenced by a number of specific aspects: organizational performance, culture, structure and leadership. The organizational structure is the item that we considered the most important, more specifically the size of the companies. Entrepreneurs refers often that the size of Portuguese companies is one of the main barriers to conquer different markets. It is also the case of entrepreneurs from the CAE31 sector - manufacture of furniture and mattresses. The small size of Portuguese companies led us to answer two questions: (1) the size of Portuguese companies that produce furniture and mattresses (CAE31) influences their internationalization capacity?; (2) The Portuguese companies that produce furniture and mattresses (CAE31) are inclined to increase their size in order to promote internationalization /exports?; (3) When Portuguese companies that produce furniture and mattresses (CAE31) are interested in increasing their size, what kind of instruments are privileged?. Based on a mixed methodology, applying interview and questionnaire to managers of the sector (furniture sector), we have done a triangular data analysis that allowed us to measure, describe and understand this reality. From this analysis we concluded: as the size of the Portuguese companies (CAE31 – furniture and mattresses production) increases, stronger is their capability to internationalize. We also concluded that these companies are interested in increasing their size and that they consider important some instruments such as: strategic alliances / business cooperation; fusions and acquisitions and risk capital interventions.

Abstract:
The objective of this master project is to develop a business plan for an innovative fashion service. Over one-third of the global population own a smartphone. Statistics reveal that more than 90% of the time spent by smartphone users on their devices, is consumed within Apps. Nevertheless, millions of local stores around the world do not benefit from this opportunity. Clothie wants to unlock the market for those fashion retailers that are struggling to stay in business, by offering a tool capable of creating a potentially unlimited client base. Besides, its entertaining approach to the fashion world is expected to generate unprecedented value for the ones eager to find new apparel products. Shaping its strategy around the concept of ‘Lean Startup’, the team will develop the platform in light of the feedback received from the customers, creating authentic value while saving time and resources. Joining the fast-growing Portuguese economy will facilitate the customer development process, granting the opportunity to introduce Clothie to an increasing audience of tourists keen to shop locally. Thanks to its unique value curve, Clothie is able to stand out from the competition and create a ‘Blue Ocean’ - becoming the first ever 'location-based fashion shopping app' to be released on the market. The astonishing potentialities of the project are evidenced by the financial forecasts generated, which outline the scalability of the business and the exceptional value Clothie can provide to its shareholders.

Abstract:
E-commerce is being rapidly diffused geographically and is shaping all sort of industries that seek solutions to meet increasing society demands. Due to its growing importance, researchers are finding ways to track the impacts and variations of this technology all over the world. Some approaches focus on specific industries including e-grocery shopping that function as a branch for e-retail with a large number of product categories. With so many variables, there are still gaps on the research of certain product categories and countries. This research fills the gap of the online grocery retailing literature in Portugal. The research contributes to a clarification of what consumers are valuing online, for grocery shopping, in comparison to what retailers are offering. Through an extensive literature review, it was developed a tool that combines the 41 most important attributes for online consumers into 5 different dimensions: Shopping Experience, Accessibility, Security, Interactions and Customer Service. This study allows to conclude that there are three different maturity stages regarding the online supply of groceries. On a more mature phase it can be found Continente and Jumbo e-retailers that greatly exceed customer expectations. Secondly it can be found El Corte Ingles that is not as mature as the previous competitors but demonstrates a clear vision and strategy for development. Finally, with the least mature offer, it can be found Intermarché, which does not meet customer expectations. Matching Portuguese retail ebusinesses to online consumers is a starting point to understand and predict the potential of the online grocery retail market in Portugal.

Abstract:
The Internet of Things, also known by the acronym IoT, comprises all devices and objects that are enabled to be permanently connected to the Internet, being able to identify on the network and communicate with each other. This technology is incorporated into a variety of products that are available today and designed to make life easier for consumers. The result was the emergence of smart cities, connected factories, connected cars, and an enormous amount of many other applications. All of this is evidence of how the world is adapting to the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is a hot topic in our days and many business models arise from this trend, in form of new technologies, products, and services. However, when it comes to business strategy and profitability, it is not only about having the best idea or the best product but how to market it in the best way and attract the right target. Techperks is a startup built with the objective of bringing new IoT products to Portugal. However, the concept was not innovative enough to succeed as predicted in the Portuguese market. This case aims to highlight the biggest reasons explaining the brand's low performance and serve as a guide of “mistakes to avoid when launching a new innovative business”. It can also be used to stimulate student’s creativity in developing strategies used by Techperks to exploit the brand's total potential. “How should I begin?”: this is the question which students will be able to answer.

Abstract:

The time spent on Internet, goes beyond simple search in the search engines or the checking the email. Trends show that the Internet users need high bandwidth and fast response times since the most frequent behaviors are peer-to-peer (P2P), such as file sharing, streaming videos, music, movies and series. Streaming content is increasingly the way to listen to music or watch movies and series. The Internet is increasingly the content provider worldwide. But, will be the choices homogeneuous among the Europe 15? Answering this research questions is the aim of this study, which analysis the comsuption of musical contents and/or movies and series, as well consumers’ profile. Abstract:
Time-shared rental has been developed as an emerging model in the area of sharing economy in recent years in China. Since the technology of Internet of Things (IoT) and new energy automobile evolved, there are more and more people paying attention to innovative transportation such as eco-car sharing. As attitude towards eco-car, which may profoundly influence the industry, is on the turning point, the purpose of this dissertation is to examine what influence consumers` intention on e-car sharing and to understand how to better increase consumer intention to use time-shared rental. A 14-item survey was cited and developed to collect data from China delivered through Internet. Responses were collected from 183 participants. The results show that PEOU, GSI and CID have positive impact on intention to use time-shared rental while PE doesn`t associate with it. At the same time, the analysis of moderating roles indicates that neither age nor gender has moderating effect on the relationships between intention and the predicted variables. However, the income level of participants was identified to be the moderator of PE to intention, which is slightly positive.
