This paper considers a supply chain model for imperfect quality items in which retail price of the buyer influences the demand of the product. The seller offers fix credit period for the buyer to stimulate his sales. Each delivered lot, goes through an inspection process at the buyer's end. After the inspection, items are separated into two parts, one is perfect quality items and another is imperfect quality items. The perfect quality items are sold at selling price and the imperfect items are sold at a discounted price immediately after the inspection process. The credit period offered by the seller and the selling price of the seller, both are considered as a decision variable. Relationship between seller and buyer is derived from the non-cooperative Seller- Stackelberg game approach. Optimal selling price, credit period and order quantity are determined by maximizing expected total profit of the supply chain. At the end, numerical examples with sensitivity analysis are given to explain the theory of the paper.

When compared to other fields of research such as mergers and acquisitions, corporate divestment is under researched. There are at least three main reasons for this: the environment in which corporate divestment research has taken place has caused divestments to be understood as acquisition-driven rather than strategy-driven, the scope and distinct modes of divestment, and the difficulties in isolating the divestment phenomena. The objective of this chapter is to review the main theoretical approaches used in the study of divestment, to analyze their contribution to the field, and to discuss whether new approaches are needed in divestment research. Most studies of divestment are based on the concept that divestment is the outcome of poor unit performance, and the reversal of previous over-diversification and growth strategies that expanded the company size beyond optimal control. This chapter proposes four future lines of research into corporate divestment: the international business strategy, the network perspective, the stakeholders' perspective, and the institutional theory.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant societal impacts. Besides loss of life there were large additional costs incurred by every country including the treatment of patients and costs to implement response plans. The pandemic resulted in major economic disruptions and stalled growth worldwide due to travel bans, lockdowns, social distancing, and non-essential business closures. Public health officials in almost every country implemented and encouraged Nonpharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) such as contact tracing, social distancing, masks, and isolation. Human behavioral decision-making concerning social isolation was a major hindrance to the success in curbing the pandemic worldwide. In many developing countries individuals’ choices were motivated by the competing risk of losing jobs, and daily income. In this chapter we focus on human behavior concerning social isolation in the context of decision-making during the pandemic. We developed a conceptual framework and deterministic model that integrated evolutionary game theory within our disease transmission model. We illustrate scenarios numerically simulating the model. This study highlights the idea that human behavior is an important component in successful disease control strategies. Economic resilience, especially in low-income countries, can improve public understanding and uptake of NPIs.

Modeling of complex processes with human participations causes difficulties due to the lack of precise measurement coming from the qualitative nature of the human notions. This provokes the need of utilization of empirical knowledge expressed cardinally. An approach for solution of these problems is utility theory. As cyber-physical systems are integrations of computation, networking, and physical processes in interaction with the user is needed feedback loops, the aim of the chapter is to demonstrate the possibility to describe quantitatively complex processes with human participation. This approach permits analytical representations of the users' preferences as objective utility functions and modeling of the complex system “human-process.” The mathematical technique allows CPS users dialog and is demonstrated by two case studies, portfolio allocation, and modeling of a competitive trade by a finite game and utility preference representation of the trader. The presented formulations could serve as foundation of development of decision support tools and decision control.

Abstract:
In the past, it was rare for non-humans to interact with each other without any involvement by humans, but this is changing. The Internet of Things (IoT) involves connections of physical things to the Internet. It is largely about the relationships between things, or non-humans actors. In other cases the ‘Things' seem to have inordinate power. The authors will ask: where does this leave humans? Are the things taking over? As a consideration of interactions like this must be a socio-technical one, in this article the authors will make use of Actor-Network Theory to frame the discussion. While the original applications for IoT technology were in areas such as supply chain management and logistics, now many more examples can be found ranging from control of home appliances to healthcare. It is expected that the ‘Things' will become active participants in business, information and social processes and that they will communicate among themselves by exchanging data sensed from the environment, while reacting autonomously. The Things will continue to develop identities and virtual personalities. In the past non-human actors have needed humans to interact with each other, but this is not the case anymore.
