Abstract:
This presentation discusses the IIRSA Initiative, institutional mechanism for the coordination of intergovernmental actions performed by the twelve South American countries. It covers some descriptive issues and an analysis section. The description features the components of the mechanism: territorial planning, development impact, environmental sustainability, project analysis and implementation, and regulatory issues. Bover, Olympia, Laura Hospido, and Ana Lamo. Gender and Career Progression: Evidence from the Banco de España. Banco de España, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.53479/38192.

Full text
Abstract:
Using anonymised personnel records from the Banco de España, we examine gender differences in career progression. This institution features a complex professional development system, in which competitive calls, direct appointments and vertical promotions coexist. We document that the presence of women has increased markedly since the late 1990s, although not always in a monotonic manner. Comparing male and female potential candidates for the same process, we find no significant gender gaps in the probability of promotion in competitive calls, nor in direct appointments or in vertical promotion

The CLARISSA programme aims to understand the dynamics that are central to running a business in the informal economy in Bangladesh’s leather industry and explore how and why worst forms of child labour become a feature of business operations. This research paper explores the findings from semi-structured interviews with business owners operating enterprises involved in leather processing and production across three prominent neighbourhoods and business districts in and around Dhaka. A focus on the leather industry in Bangladesh is an opportunity to explore the demand side of the child labour

Nilsson Lewis, Astrid, Kaidi Kaaret, Eileen Torres Morales, Evelin Piirsalu, and Katarina Axelsson. Accelerating green public procurement for decarbonization of the construction and road transport sectors in the EU. Stockholm Environment Institute, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.51414/sei2023.007.

Full text
Abstract:
Public procurement of goods and services contributes to about 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In the EU, public purchasing represents 15% of its GDP, acting as a major influencer on the market through the products and services acquired by governments from the local to national levels. The public sector has a role to play in leveraging this purchasing power to achieve the best societal value for money, particularly as we scramble to bend the curve of our planet’s warming. Globally, the construction and transport sectors each represent about 12% of government procurements’ GHG emissions.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this report is to get into the heart of the processes that are underway in the Basque Country as it seeks to move from the design to the implementation of its RIS3. It is based on interviews with 35 people from government, business, research and other agencies who are intimately involved with different aspects of the Basque RIS3 process. These interviews have been combined with a review of the many working documents being produced by the RIS3 process to generate the reflections that are contained in this report.
