<p>Denna studie behandlar de två koncepten outsourcing och business process outsourcing samt möjligheter och risker med nämnda koncept. Genom studier av ämnena business process outsourcing samt traditionell outsourcing har författarna påträffat sådan information som indikerar och tydliggör sådant som i litteraturen uppfattas som centralt då det kommer till möjligheter och risker då med de båda koncepten.</p><p>Syftet med studien är att beskriva dessa koncept och jämföra dess risker och möjligheter. Någon förförståelse av det studerade området har inte författarna. Med anledning av att leverantörerna av ovanstående tjänster inte haft möjlighet att delge författarna vilka deras kunder är har studien begränsats till skriven litteratur samt leverantörernas uppfattning om risker och möjligheter med dessa tjänster. Studien är utformad dels med en deduktiv metod vilket inneburit litteraturstudier, samt med en kvalitativ metod som inneburit tre djupintervjuer.</p><p>Genom att studera outsourcing- och BPO-branschen har författarna kommit fram till tre respondenter vilka anses representativa och väl anpassade för studien, då dessa levererar båda ovan nämnda former av tjänster. Arbetets teoridel är strukturerad på ett tydligt sätt som belyser risker och möjligheter med de båda koncepten, samt en kortare förklaring av faktorer som påverkar valet om att köpa in dessa tjänster eller ej. I empirin ställs frågor baserade på vad teorin menar är risker och möjligheter med de båda koncepten. Här redovisas också de svar författarna erhållit från respondenterna.</p><p>Då det gäller att jämföra de båda koncepten är slutsatsen att det kan göras på två olika sätt. Delvis genom att jämföra riskerna och möjligheterna och dels genom att jämföra strukturen på de olika koncepten. Studiens slutsats är att riskerna och möjligheterna med de båda koncepten liknar varandra och flertalet av de identifierade är helt identiska.</p>

This research was undertaken to explore the potential application of Human Resource (HR) Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) as an appropriate service delivery mechanism. The investigation included the identification of the primary internal drivers and external factors affecting HR departments, to craft the framework within which to consider HR BPO. Then the processes that could be delivered by HR BPO were identified. The study concluded with the identification of the critical success factors for implementing HR BPO and the expected benefits. The research was conducted by means of 26 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with senior HR managers and HR professionals. The respondents represented various industries and sectors and included leading South African organisations and a range of global organisations. The resulting findings first introduce the bridge principle, to ensure that HR transformation is not at the expense of line management. Secondly a decision model, which incorporates benefit realisation principles, was developed to assess the applicability of HR BPO for processes. This study examines the emergence of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in white collar occupations. Recent BPO practices are compared to the offshore outsourcing of production in the context of the shift from Fordist to flexible production. The study considers BPO in light of Harry Braverman's theory of work degradation and whether or not BPO extends the traditional division of labor between conception and execution to higher skilled white collar occupations. An exploratory qualitative approach comprised of informant interviews, a focus group, and literature review was used to analyze how BPO occurs, why it happens, and where it takes place. I discuss the role of politics and corporate culture in outsourcing white collar jobs and examine the practice of transitioning workers from client to BPO service providers. The study concludes with a skill-based typology of BPO services and suggestions for policy and future research.

Diese Dissertation befasst sich in drei empirischen Aufsätzen mit der Auslagerung von Informationstechnologien (IT) und Geschäftsprozessen. Der erste Beitrag untersucht die Auswirkung von IT-Outsourcing auf die Arbeitsproduktivität der auslagernden Unternehmen, wobei ein Endogenous Switching Regression Modell im Rahmen einer Cobb-Douglas Produktionsfunktion verwendet wird. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Mitarbeiter, die hauptsächlich mit einem Computer arbeiten, produktiver sind in Unternehmen die IT auslagern. Daher kann die Computernutzung und IT Outsourcing als komplementäre Faktoren betrachtet werden, die sich beide positiv auf die Arbeitsproduktivität auswirken. Der zweite Aufsatz befasst sich mit der Wirkung von IT Outsourcing auf das Beschäftigungswachstum. Während Outsourcing zumindest kurzfristig oftmals mit einem Beschäftigungsabbau in den auslagernden Unternehmen assoziiert wird, können die mittel- bis langfristigen Auswirkungen von Outsourcing durchaus positiv sein. Durch einen Instrumentalvariablenansatz wird für mögliche Endogenität zwischen Beschäftigungswachstum und IT Outsourcing kontrolliert. Die empirischen Ergebnisse sprechen dafür, dass sich Outsourcing mittelfristig positiv auf das Beschäftigungswachstum der Unternehmen auswirkt. Allerdings zeigt eine separate Betrachtung des verarbeitenden Gewerbes und von Dienstleistungsunternehmen, dass dieser positive Effekt nur für letztere signifikant ist. Der dritte und letzte Beitrag untersucht die Auswirkung der Auslagerung von IT nahen Geschäftsprozessen auf die Unternehmensproduktivität. Diese Analyse basiert auf Paneldaten. Um Verzerrungen durch nicht beobachtbare Heterogenität von Firmen, Messfehler der Variablen und Simultanität der In- und Outputs zu erfassen, werden verschiedene Schätzverfahren im Rahmen einer Cobb-Douglas Produktionsfunktion verwendet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen signifikanten positiven Effekt der Auslagerung von Geschäftsprozessen auf die Produktivität der Unternehmen.<br>This thesis consists of three essays that contribute to the empirical literature on information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing. The first essay analyses the impact of information technology outsourcing on labour productivity in outsourcing firms by using an endogenous switching regression model in a Cobb-Douglas production function framework. Estimation results show that employees who mainly work with a computer are more productive in firms conducting IT outsourcing. Therefore, computer usage and IT outsourcing can be interpreted as complementary factors that positively affect firms’ labour productivity. The second essay refers to the employment effects of IT outsourcing. Even though, in most cases outsourcing is widely associated with accompanied job losses in outsourcing firms, the medium and long term effects of outsourcing can absolutely still be positive. The analysis is conducted by using an instrumental variable approach to account for possible endogeneity between the employment growth rate and IT outsourcing. Estimation results provide empirical evidence that IT outsourcing has a positive effect on a firms’ medium-term employment growth rate. However, dividing the sample into manufacturing and service firms, a significant medium-term positive growth effect of IT outsourcing can only be observed for firms operating in the service sector. Finally, the last essay takes a close look at the impact of IT-related business process outsourcing on firm productivity. This analysis is based on panel data. In order to account for unobserved firm heterogeneity, measurement errors in the variables and simultaneity of inputs and output, different estimation techniques are applied to estimate a Cobb-Douglas production function model. The results clearly reveal a positive and significant impact of business process outsourcing on firm-level productivity.

Many small businesses in the United States declare bankruptcy within the first 5 years of starting operations. Small business leaders may avoid bankruptcy if they would take advantage of the financial benefits associated with entering the business process outsourcing (BPO) market as service providers. BPO service providers in the United States have experienced significant revenue increases since entering this growing market. This multicase study was an exploration of the strategies small business leaders use to enter the BPO market as service providers to increase revenue and reduce the likelihood of bankruptcy in the metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, area. The multicase population consisted of 4 small business leaders from 3 companies who successfully entered the BPO market as service providers and increased revenue. The conceptual framework for this study was the resource-based view theory. The data collection process included semistructured interviews, interview notes, and company records. Data were compiled and organized, disassembled into fragments, reassembled into sequence of groups, and interpreted for meaning. Methodological triangulation and member checking validated the trustworthiness of those interpretations. Three themes emerged from the data collected: using professional resources and personal skills to enter the BPO market; entering into trade contracts with BPO clients; and establishing and building on relationships with BPO clients. The implications for positive social change include the potential to increase the success rate of small businesses, improve and revitalize the economic and social conditions of the local community by providing jobs.

<p>I den hårdnande konkurrensen på dagens marknad beslutar stor del av dagens företag att koncentrera sig på sin kärnverksamhet. För att kunna göra detta gör företagen ett övervägande om att producera själv eller att leja någon annan att utföra samma aktivitet. Bland många företag är anledningen till outsourcing en önskan om att uppnå minskade kostnader och en produktivitetsökning. Fördelarna kan även ses ur ett strategiskt perspektiv, då ny kunskap förs in i företaget, vilket kan underlätta genomförandet av förändringar. Genom att lägga ut redovisningsfunktionen kan företaget koncentrera sig på sin kärnverksamhet. Detta är bakgrunden till den problemformulering som utgåtts ifrån: I vilken utsträckning tillämpas outsourcing av redovisningsfunktionen bland företagen i Örnsköldsviks kommun?</p><p>Syftet med vår uppsats är att undersöka om det finns ett samband mellan hur många anställdaett företag har och hur vanligt förekommande outsourcing av redovisningsfunktionen är.</p><p>Denna uppsats är utförd med ett positivistiskt synsätt och deduktivt angreppssätt. Detta har resulterat i en enkätundersökning där ett antal företag har undersökts. För att utföra denna undersökning har teorier som behandlar outsourcing legat till grund, vilka innefattar; kärnkompetens, strategier, inköpsroller och Business Process Outsourcing, BPO. Utifrån den insamlade empirin har en analys utförts, vilken har lett till en slutsats på det uppställda problemet. Denna slutsats resulterade i att det inte är så vanligt förekommande med outsourcing av redovisningsfunktionen och att företag med mindre än tolv anställda väljer att outsourca sin redovisningsfunktion.</p>

<p>Outsourcing, förflyttning av funktioner till extern part som tidigare funnits i företaget, är ett fenomen som under de två senaste årtiondena har vuxit starkt i världen. Outsourcing har möjliggjort för företag att fokusera på sin kärnverksamhet och därmed erhålla konkurrensfördelar. Business Process Outsourcing är en kategori inom detta område, som innebär att företaget outsourcar hela eller delar av sin ekonomifunktion. Användandet av Business Process Outsourcing har ökat bland de svenska företagen under de senaste åren. Det finns mångtydiga förklaringar till denna framväxt, där en förklaring är att det är en trend. En annan förklarig är att lågkonjunkturen tvingar företag att hitta nya sätt att kostnadsbespara. Det har dock visats att alla initiativ till outsourcing inte blir lyckade, utan att en del företag upplever att de inte uppnått de förväntade fördelarna med outsourcingen. Vi bedömer att det finns ett behov av att kartlägga de för- och nackdelar som finns med Business Process Outsourcing för att hjälpa företag i deras beslutsprocess vid övervägande om att använda Business Process Outsourcing.</p><p>Syftet med denna uppsats är att ur fyra olika perspektiv; företag som erbjuder Business Process Outsourcing, företag som använder Business Process Outsourcing, företag som beslutat att inte använda Business Process Outsourcing och företag som använder intern outsourcing, studera och analysera de överväganden som är aktuella i samband med Business Process Outsourcing. Syftet är även att ge vägledning och rekommendationer att beakta vid beslut om Business Process Outsourcing samt skapa en bättre förståelse för ämnet.</p><p>Vi har valt att avgränsa vår uppsats till stora svenska företag. Vi har även valt att definiera Business Process Outsourcing som outsourcing av de funktioner som återfinns hos ett företags ekonomiavdelning, som exempelvis lönehantering, fakturering, reskontrabevakning, bokföring men även bokslut, deklaration samt hantering av skatter.</p>

<p>Previous research has, by studying large listed firms, identified cost reductions and knowledge transference as the primary reasons for outsourcing. Previous research has also indicated that Business Process Outsourcing is likely to increase in popularity and experience high annual growth going forward. This study aims to explore why mid-sized and large firms decide to in Jämtlands län, fully or partly, outsource their finance/accounting activities. Theories regarding transaction cost economics and resource based view composes the foundation of this study and the information used has been gathered through the use of semi-structured interviews. The results shows, like the chosen theories and previous research indicates, that the outsourcing decision is primary based on expected cost reductions. The underlying causes for a business process outsourcing decision among mid-sized to large companies in Jämtlands län, does not differ from large listed firms. However, it is difficult to distinguish a clear trend in Business Process Outsourcing among firms in Jämtland län, as only seven out of twenty-eight firms investigated have outsourced their finance/accounting activities.</p>

<p>A1260</p><p>Sammanfattning</p><p>Denna uppsats behandlar hanteringen av en kunskapsintensiv process som har outsourcats. Studien är baserad på en fallstudie av General Motors (GM) Nordics outsourcing av sin kundtjänst till företaget EDS. Frågan som ställs är vad som händer med kunskapen inom processen och hur båda parter uppfattar denna kunskapshantering.</p><p>Ambitionen med uppsatsen har varit att kartlägga kunskapsflödet från kunden till de ansvariga personerna på GM Nordic. Den kundbaserade kunskapen måste passera många led inom processen innan den når det slutliga målet. Genom analys har en del svagheter i processen framkommit. Det saknas rutiner för att kontrollera kundsupportdatabasen</p><p>regelbundet samt att registrera all kunskap i databasen. För att GM ska kunna motta mer kundbaserad kunskap och därigenom öka sina konkurrensfördelar behöver man förbättra en del rutiner. Dessa rutiner gäller kunskapshantering i leden mellan konsulterna och GM Nordic. En åtgärd för att uppnå en snabb förbättring vore att uppmuntra till</p><p>dokumentation av den ”mjuka datan” från kund, samt öka förståelsen för betydelsen av den implicita kunskapen. Det finns dock även flera positiva aspekter som t ex att konsulternas ”närhet” till andra länders konsulter har visat sig vara en möjlighet att sprida kunskap. En annan viktig aspekt som uppsatsen tar upp är GM:s förpliktelser till EDS för att de ska kunna leverera den förväntade outputen. Genom studier av teori, såsom definitioner om outsourcing och om Knowledge Management har vi fått en överblick över det teoretiska ramverket som behandlar ämnet.</p><p>Eftersom kunskapshantering ofta är ett missförstått område, finns det därför en utförlig teoretisk förklaring av detta i teoridelen av uppsatsen. Underlag för empirin har vi insamlat genom att intervjua berörda parter på båda företagen.</p>

Outsourcing has been around for over twenty years and is still growing, while outsourcing of recruitment is a relatively new phenomenon. Organisations outsource primarily because of the cost benefit and time saving, since there are also several reasons to outsource, there are also several types of outsourcing. Business process outsourcing is when an organisation outsources a whole business process such as Human Resources, which Recruitment Process Outsourcing is a part of. Recruitment Process Outsourcing is a process used to increase organisation‟s efficiency through managerial time saving, moving the recruitment process to external recruiting agencies providing trust and the proper competitive expertise needed. The purpose of this study is to see how organisational culture is affected by Recruitment Process Outsourcing. This study examined how RPO affects organisational culture, more precisely three factors were examined, motivation, performance orientation and effective orientation. Five international banks in Sweden were investigated and the results showed that motivation was not affected at all by RPO, effective orientation was affected by the most of the companies studied and the performance orientation was affected by circum one third of the companies by RPO. Human Resource study field has a lack of research in RPO and this study is a contribution to that field, regarding the outsourcing of recruitment in the Swedish bank industry.

Purpose - Research into post contract management control in inter-organizational relationships in general is immature and studies of transactional arrangements such as back-office BPO even more so. The global BPO market has grown from over $47 Billion in 2006 to over $75 Billion by 2011. However, satisfaction with such arrangements has been reported to be very low. Neither management control nor economic theories appear able to fully explain how control is realized between firms. This research provides a detailed qualitative analysis of post contract management control methods utilized in practice in a BPO context. Design / methodology / approach - an embedded multiple case study of four transactional BPO arrangements was employed to support generalizability. Data was collected from the USA, UK and India. Sources of evidence from both sides of the dyadic relationship were used to minimize problems of construct validity. A case study protocol was established to maximize case study reliability. Data analysis comprised within case and cross case analyses.

This bachelor thesis deals with the subject of business process modelling in an outsourced environment. The communication process between two parties that are on either side of the globe can be problematic and affect the quality of the system requirements. The background of this study is that there is a lack of communication between these parties, which will eventuate in poor results. The purpose of this study is to find out whether it is possible to make use of business process modelling in an outsourced environment in order to increase the quality of system requirements by bringing the two parties closer together with help of a common language. A qualitative approach was used to interview relevant informants at Länsförsäkringar AB and its business units Länsförsäkringar Liv and Länsförsäkringar Bank. We have identified that it is not necessarily the system requirements that have a poor quality but how these system conveyed to the external supplier. Based on our data collection, we realized the great benefits of business process modelling as a means of communication in the system development, which can be a huge advantage in an outsourced environment. According to our study, it is certain that a business process modelling with mapped processes and flow charts can support communication as a common language because of the creation of processes and images instead of text.

<p>Syftet med denna uppsats är att skapa förståelse för, varför företag väljer att outsourca sin ekonomifunktion utomlands, samt identifiera eventuella oförutsedda kostnader. För att illustrera detta genomförs en fallstudie på företaget Dell. Våra data har vi inhämtat genom en kvalitativ undersökning i form av en fallstudie på företaget Dell. Vi har valt att genomföra en längre intervju med två nyckelpersoner på det svenska kontoret i Solna. I teoriavsnittet presenteras litteratur och artiklar om vad outsourcing är och innebär samt forskningsartiklar gjorda om varför företag outsourcar sin ekonomifunktion och vad de önskar uppnå. Vidare presenteras även artiklar om den skepticism som stundtals finns kring outsourcing och dess fördelar. Vår undersökning baseras på den intervju vi har gjort med Dells nordiska redovisnings chef samt den person som är Nordic Credit Manager och därmed har nära kontakt med outsourcingparten i Riga. Vi kommer genom vår studie fram till att företag främst outsourcar ekonomifunktionen i syfte att nå kostnadsbesparingar via ökad effektivitet och standardisering av processer samt lägre personalkostnader, men att även strävan efter expertis gör outsourcing till något eftersträvansvärt. Vi finner att outsourcing av ekonomifunktionen innebär kostnader i form av risken för att företaget väljer fel utomstående part, högre personalomsättning, kulturella och språkliga barriärer, minskad flexibilitet och initiativtagande. Vissa av kostnaderna är specifikt kopplade till outsourcing utomlands. Sammantaget kommer dessa kostnader att minska det förväntade positiva utfallet av outsourcingen av ekonomifunktionen i olika påtaglig omfattning.</p>

Research comparing public-private services outsourcing applying a longitudinal approach including the production/delivery processes (life after purchase) in services sourcing contexts is scarce. In addition, prior studies on service sourcing tend be under conceptualized. To address the above this licentiate thesis presents the results of a comparative and grounded theory inspired case study of two major Swedish FM services outsourcing projects, a public and a private case of operational partnering. Client-provider interaction processes on management level have been followed regularly over time utilizing participant observation as a core element combined with interviews and documentary studies. Observed variations in relational orientation over time, are problematized and discussed. A substantive theory – Business streamlining - of Facility Management outsourcing processes, including the seldom-researched life after purchase processes, is outlined and contextualized. It is argued that existing relational classifications, such as operational partnering, do not capture the life after purchase dynamics of the studied relationships. Studien ska även öka kunskapen för de effekter outsourcing av ekonomifunktionen medför på den ekonomiska- respektive den sportsliga delen av de ideella idrottsföreningarnas verksamhet. Sammanfattningsvis ska studien också ge rekommendationer till idrottsföreningar som står inför valet att outsourca sin ekonomifunktion. Detta gjordes genom en kvalitativ forskningsmetod där primära källor utgjorts av intervjuer med sex personer verksamma i olika ideella idrottsföreningar. Kända referenser om outsourcing för företag samlades in för att kunna ställas i relation till svaren. Slutsatserna av studien är att ideella idrottsföreningar väljer att outsourca sin ekonomifunktion eftersom de vill få mer tid till kärnverksamheten, av ekonomiska skäl och för att få in rätt kompetens för att skapa en stabilitet i föreningens ekonomihantering. Effekterna av outsourcingen blir att föreningar sparar pengar i jämförelse med att ha anställda, att de ökar sina intäkter och att mer tid och pengar kan läggas på den sportsliga delen av verksamheten. Vidare innebär en outsourcad ekonomifunktion en avlastning för ideellt arbetande personer och att det underlättar för nyrekryteringen av ideella krafter.

Begreppet outsourcing har sitt ursprung i slutet av 1980-talet och uppkom för att beskriva den trend där stora företag valde att överföra sina informationssystem till externa leverantörer. Outsourcing kan definieras som en kontraktuell relation mellan ett företag och en extern leverantör. Begreppet Business Process Outsourcing är något som har varit och är på frammarsch inom outsourcingområdet och innebär outsourcing av hela affärsprocesser, såsom outsourcing av ekonomifunktionen. Alla företag arbetar gentemot specifika finansiella mål som företaget vill nå upp till. De finansiella målen som företaget har ställt upp samlas under benämningen ekonomistyrning och det är företagets ekonomifunktion som svarar för detta arbete. Uppsatsens utgångspunkt är att studera hur företagets ekonomistyrning påverkas om man väljer att lägga ekonomifunktionen och därmed den funktion som svarar för företagets ekonomistyrning på en extern part. Uppsatsen syfte är därmed att genom empiriska studier undersöka varför företagen väljer att outsourca ekonomifunktionen samt huruvida outsourcing av ekonomifunktionen påverkar företagets ekonomistyrning. Uppsatsen består av en empirisk undersökning av sju företag. Fyra av dessa är redovisningsföretag som tar hand om ekonomifunktionen som företagen outsourcar. Insamlingsmetoden består av en kvalitativ metod för att möjliggöra en djupare förståelse för ämnet. I den empiriska undersökningen har vi undersökt vad som motiverar företagen att outsourca ekonomifunktionen, vilka fördelar och nackdelar detta för med sig samt hur tillvägagångssättet ser ut när företagen väljer att outsourca ekonomifunktionen. Uppsatsens fokus ligger på att finna huruvida ekonomistyrningen påverkas när företagen väljer att outsourca den del av verksamheten som svarar för ekonomistyrningen. Studien visar att så länge företagen och outsourcingleverantören har ett nära och bra samarbete behöver inte ekonomistyrningen påverkas negativt. Det är upp till företaget att välja hur ekonomistyrningen skall gå tillväga och vem som skall utföra den oavsett om ekonomifunktionen finns inom företaget eller utanför. I mångt och mycket ligger ekonomistyrning fortfarande inom företagets kontroll även om ekonomifunktionen outsourcas.

Research on interorganisational relationships is highly fragmented. It can be found in, for example, sociology, economics, anthropology, psychology, marketing, organisational behaviour, strategic management, and entrepreneurship. It is unsurprising that the terminology and units of analysis vary notably, as does the theoretical basis of the research. The forms of interorganisational relationships researched also vary, including among others networking, outsourcing, strategic alliances, joint ventures, and partnering.
The focus of this research is on outsourcing partnerships – what is the process involved in the formation and management of a software research and development (R&D) outsourcing partnership and what are the factors that affect the successful outcome of the said relationship. Understanding of how the relationship works, how it grows and develops is crucial for getting the best out of the collaboration and for avoiding possible difficulties.
Outsourcing and partnering have been researched from many different viewpoints, depending on the domain. Some common topics of interest can still be found and they are presented in this study. However, a complete picture of an outsourcing partnership life cycle cannot be found in the literature. Because of that a synthesis outsourcing partnership life cycle model has been created based on the models found in other studies.
In the second part of the study, empirical data from a software R&D outsourcing partnership case is analysed based on the synthesis model, and a new, improved model is created. The new model gives a more in-depth insight into the formation and management of an outsourcing partnership. Also, the success factors collected from the case are compared to the ones found in the literature. Even though the model is created and presented mainly from the customer company viewpoint, it has been affected by the partner company viewpoint as well, as the case data was collected from both companies.

The objective of this research was to explore the HR outsourcing process and examine the interaction and effects of the factors of business strategy, motivation, HR function outsourced, and the outcome. The interaction of these factors was modelled upon a theoretical framework based upon current literature. This framework was investigated using both a qualitative and quantitative approach. The goal of this research was to characterise these factors and identify the relationships between these factors. The qualitative approach consisted of six case studies where one-to-one interviews were conducted with HR managers of medium to large Australian organisations. The responses to the interview questions from each interviewee was analysed to determine outsourcing characteristics and unique issues not previously identified within current literature. These issues included: when an organisation does not have the resources to conduct thorough research into the identification and selection of a service provider then they will use the recommendations of peer organisations. When an organisation contracts a service provider a relationship is established that will bond the two parties. The length of the service contract is dependent upon the complexity of !he outsourced HR function. The quality of service from a service provider must match that of the organisation. Finally, the contract between the service provider and the organisation must contain provisions for a changing economic environment. The quantitative approach consisted of a survey distributed to 1995 medium to large Australian organisations identified from the Dunn and Bradstreet database. A total of 163 valid responses were received from which 124 outsourced one or more HR functions. This corresponded to a response rate of6.22%. The survey data was analysed using factor analysis to reduce the business strategy variable to two categories: Innovative-Quality Enhancement and Cost Leadership. Similarly, Factor analysis was used to reduce the variables of Motivation to four categories: HR Management, Learning, Reduced Cost and Political reason. The variable of Process was reduced to four categories: Reserved, Regular, Rapid and Relaxed. The outcome variables were reduced to two categories: Organisation and Operational. Cluster analysis was used to classify the cases based upon these reduced factors from which the relationships between these factors were analysed. The analysis found that no relationship existed between business strategy and motivation also no relationship was found between business strategy and outsourced HR function. A partial relationship was found between business strategy and process and another partial relationship was found between outsourced HR function and process similarly a relationship was found between process and outcome. Several relationships were found between motivation end outsourced HR function. The results from this exploratory research have significant implications for human resource management theory and practice. The developed theoretical framework provides a useful model of the HR outsourcing factors within Australia. This framework together with the unique factors identified through the qualitative analysis provides a significant platform from which additional research may be conducted.

Outsourcing has been a common topic in relation to business strategy for many decades. It is when an organization transfer some activities to an external vendor. In order to achieve a competitive advantage organizations use external vendors to perform the activities more efficiently and effectively. The global competitive environment has increased the use of outsourcing worldwide, concequently the use of outsourcing has changed the boundaries of todays firms. Lately, backsourcing has gained more attention, which is when an organization has outsourced an activity that was previously executed in house, and then bring it back into the organization again. Insourcing on the other hand, has been given less attention. It is when an outsourced activity that has not been executed within the organization previously, is internalized. The reason for choosing this research topic was that we wanted to write about something that could be applied to the “real world” and the decisions that business leaders face in their occupation. Therefore, when we were offered the chance to write our degree project for Alfa Sweden we accepted their proposal. We identified two main research gaps in the existing research regarding insourcing, there is no study that covers the insourcing process and the steps inherent in it. Additionally, how the organization’s capabilities are linked to the opportunities and challenges organizations face during insourcing, has not been examined before. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to build a model of the insourcing process and the steps included in each phase of the process. Additionally, to explore the opportunities and challenges that can arise when organizations go through the insourcing process. These opportunities and challenges will be connected to the company’s capabilities, meaning its resources and competences. In order to fulfill this purpose and gain a deeper understanding of this relatively unexplored field, a qualitative study was conducted. Eight semi-structured interviews were pursued where seven interviewees represented different companies belonging to the same group and one interviewee represented the perspective of an accountant firm. From the results of the interviews, we derived four themes, namely design of the sourcing solution, the insourcing process, resources and competences. Through analyzing the results of our study we have been able to create a model for what the insourcing process looks like and the steps included in the planning, implementation and control phase. This model can contribute and guide companies who are planning to insource certain activities in the future. Furthermore, our results revealed several opportunities and challenges and their connection to the company’s resources and competences. In addition to these theoretical contributions and practical implications we also provide practical recommendations for Alfa Sweden.

El objetivo general de esta tesis es presentar una propuesta para el diseño de una Oficina de Dirección de Proyectos (PMO) para la División de Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) en una Empresa de Consultoría. La orientación inicial de la PMO será dar soporte a los diferentes tipos de proyectos de la BPO y de sus clientes.
Se busca solucionar el problema de una dirección de proyectos ineficiente como base para el soporte de la aplicación eficiente y eficaz de la Metodología de Dirección de Proyectos que tiene la empresa. Para ello, utiliza las herramientas de gestión, define estándares y métricas, y gestiona el conocimiento de la Dirección de Proyectos. El desarrollo del equipo, el soporte de la planificación, la auditoría de proyectos y la recuperación de proyectos forman parte de esta propuesta de diseño que considera también las relaciones de los clientes, contratistas y proveedores.
La tesis presenta seis capítulos. El primero describe la empresa, analiza el entorno y realiza un diagnóstico interno de la organización. El segundo presenta el marco teórico de los principales conceptos. El tercero analiza la situación actual, su misión, visión, valores y objetivos. El cuarto define el tipo de PMO recomendado en base a su situación, necesidades y expectativas. El quinto presenta la justificación y el análisis financiero de la propuesta de la PMO de la BPO. El sexto presenta las conclusiones y recomendaciones. Al finalizar esta tesis, se obtendrá una propuesta real del diseño de la PMO para la División de BPO.<br>The general objective of this thesis is to present a proposal for the design of a Project Management Office (PMO) for the Business Process Outsourcing Division (BPO) in a Consulting Company. The initial orientation of the PMO will be to support the different types of projects of the BPO and its clients.
The aim is to solve the problem of an inefficient project management as a basis for the efficient and effective application of the Project Management Methodology that the company has. To do this, it uses the management tools, defines standards and metrics, and manages the knowledge of Project Management. Team development, planning support, project auditing and project recovery form part of this design proposal that also considers the relationships of customers, contractors and suppliers.
The thesis presents six chapters. The first describes the company, analyzes the environment and performs diagnostic or internal organization. The second presents the theoretical framework of the main concepts. The third analyzes the current situation, mission, vision, values and goals. The fourth defines the type of PMO recommended based on their situation, needs and expectations. The fifth presents the justification and financial analysis of the BPO proposal of the BPO. <p>Third party logistics (TPL), the procurement of an integrated set of logistics services in a long-term relationship between a shipper (goods owner) and a service provider, is today a viable option for how companies carry out their logistics activities. Very little has been written on implementation or change issues in a TPL setting; these issues are identified as important, but not elaborated. There is however reason to believe that implementation of TPL arrangements, or rather establishment thereof, involves a complex change process involving substantial change for a wide range of actors in both the shipper’s and the provider’s organisation.</p><p>When comparing literature that deals with the TPL establishment process with a stream of research that is concerned with logistics change, it comes to light that there is a discrepancy between the theoretical and methodological foundations of the former works, and what is written in these pieces regarding the process. It is concluded that recommendations for how to manage the establishment process are given without being founded in a theory of process, or research designs capable of studying process. The theoretical underpinnings of TPL literature are founded in a view of change as a matter of conducting rational analysis and conceiving the strategically wisest decisions for the logistics system as a whole. Implementation is viewed as an unproblematic exercise of issuing directives to affected actors, asserting that all actors are rational, therefore rationally conceived decisions will be accepted and implemented accordingly.</p><p>Therefore the overarching purpose of this research is:</p><p><strong>To explore the change process of third party logistics establishment</strong></p><p>To fulfil this purpose the two streams of research mentioned above are combined. A meta-model of process consisting of the three interrelated dimensions content, context, and process forms the starting point for the study of process, but this is not sufficient for a study of change; a theory of change which is capable of capturing the mechanisms of the change process as it unfolds is also needed. Therefore the theory of change of the second stream of research mentioned above is adopted.</p><p>The theory of change encompasses three models of change, which are archetypical representations of the mechanisms underlying change processes according to different assumptions of what change is and how change comes about. These models are denoted the linear, the processual, and the circular. One important aspect of this theory of change is that the approach to change should be aligned with the extent oflearning requirements on the actors who are affected by or involved in the change. An actors perspective is therefore called for, and adopted in this thesis.</p><p>This thesis is the first step of a wider research effort concerned with studying the process of establishing TPL. Therefore, of the three dimensions of change, the contentdimension is excluded from study in this thesis. Governed by the meta-model of process, two research objectives are formulated:</p><p><strong>To explore the context within which the TPL establishment process unfolds and describe the contextual dependence of this proces</strong>s</p><p><strong>&</strong></p><p><strong>To describe the change process of TPL establishment in terms of the linear, processual, and circular models of change</strong></p><p>The empirical investigation applied is a single-case retrospective study, in which the case is the establishment process between a Swedish company and an international TPL service provider. A total of fifteen actors have been interviewed; ten on the shipper side of the dyad, five on the provider side. Although the TPL establishment process is an interorganisational process, this thesis focuses on the intraorganisational process of the shipper, why the empirical material from the other side of the dyad is not used in this thesis, The interorganisational aspect, as well as the intraorganisational side within the provider’s organisation are nevertheless important, and will be included in future research.</p><p>The interviews were carried out in an unstructured manner, in which the interviewees were asked to retell the story from their own perspectives. Actors from varying positions, who were involved in the process, are included in the study; in the total sample all groups who were most affected or involved are represented. The interviews rendered ten stories of the studied process.</p><p>These stories were then analysed by means of a pattern-matching logic, in order to seek out the important contextual dependencies of the process, and to explore the mechanisms of the change process, as it evolved in context.</p><p>After having conducted this first step of the ongoing research effort, four main conclusions can be drawn:</p><p>- The TPL establishment process is context dependent.</p><p>- Not only rational mechanisms are at play in the process.</p><p>- It is important to acknowledge actors, not only systems.</p><p>- It is important to acknowledge the process, not only the decision.</p><br>ISRN/Report code: LiU-TEK-LIC-2003:27

Thus, this study has investigated employee perceptions in relation to the key measurements for service quality, namely reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy and tangibles through the SERVQUAL model to measure the quality of service delivery at a BPO in Cape Town, South Africa.
A quantitative research method was applied and data were collected through a semi-structured survey questionnaire from the group of employees (n=188) at the selected BPO in Cape Town. The statistical software program SPSS Version 25 and Microsoft Excel were used for data analysis. Descriptive statistical results were generated as well as the validity and reliability of the dataset determined.
The research findings revealed that the key factors to which particular attention needs to be given are reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. It is revealed that it is imperative for the BPO to intensify continual training and skills development for their employees. Given the findings of these key factors as focus areas for good practice, this study has drawn special attention to the selected BPO and other BPOs in the South African context to advance their service quality to maintain their services up to standard and to remain competitive. The research could benefit BPOs in South Africa and Africa in general as more and more companies are outsourcing their services on the continent.

Att producera i egen regi eller köpa utifrån har varit en problematisk fråga alltsedan den industriella revolutionen. Outsourcing har den senaste tiden blivit allt vanligare och fått mer betydelse. Dock är forskningen inom ämnet sparsam. Den senaste tiden har outsourcing i snabb takt upptagits som medel för att förändra sättet affärer görs på. Med outsourcingens hjälp uppnås snabba och hållbara förbättringar i värdekedjorna samt att konkurrenskraften förbättras. Syftet med denna kandidatuppsats i informatik är att identifiera hur outsourcingleverantören skapar värde för kund genom outsourcing sett ur ett kund-leverantörsperspektiv. Uppsatsen har ett kvalitativt angreppssätt och använder fallstudiemetoden. Insamlingsmetoden består av intervjuer och litteraturstudier. De viktigaste slutsatserna visar att Kommunikation är en avgörande faktor för att outsourcingen ska bli värdefull för kunden. Det är mycket viktigt att kommunikationen fungerar inom såväl leverantörsorganisationen som mellan leverantören och kunden. Det gäller att gemensamgöra den outsourcade uppgiften så att båda parter vet vad som förväntas. Kunden måste kunna släppa kontrollen och lita på att leverantören har vad som krävs för att hanterade den outsourcade uppgiften. Att ständigt arbeta med att utveckla och förbättra kommunikationen är viktigt för det fortsatta samarbetet. Expertis är en avgörande effekt för att låta outsourca. Expertisen som är en effekt av outsourcing låter kunden sköta sin egen verksamhet medan viss administration sköts av outsourcingleverantören som har bred kompetens inom ämnet. Det leder till en högre grad av säkerhet och korrekthet. Vid rätt val av leverantör kan kunden förlita sig på att leverantören sköter sina uppgifter på ett korrekt sätt och enligt lag. Det visade sig att minskade kostnader inte är ett avgörande skäl till att outsourca, vilket det tidigare har varit.

Bakgrund: Outsourcing är inget nytt fenomen då transaktionskostnadsteorin formades 1937 som beskrev att företag bör vända sig till marknaden i de fall detta gynnade företaget ekonomiskt. Sedan dess har teorier kring outsourcing förändrats och i dag handlar outsourcing om att kunna fokusera på företagets kärnkompetens och vilka möjligheter och risker outsourcing medför. Läkemedelsbranschen har på senare år börjat outsourca forskning och produktutveckling, vilka ses som kärnprocesser. Det råder därför delade meningar om branschen faktiskt har en kärnprocess. Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att förstå hur och varför läkemedelstillverkningsbranschen outsourcar, om de outsourcade processerna har koppling till företags kärnprocesser och hur outsourcing faktiskt påverkar företaget, både monetärt och icke-monetärt. Metod: Det empiriska materialet insamlades med både kvantitativ och kvalitativ metod. En enkätundersökning genomfördes för att få en generell bild av hur läkemedelstillverkningsbranschen outsourcar för att sedan genomföra tre intervjuer för att få djupare kunskap om varför företag gjort de angivna val kring outsourcing. De intervjuade företagen valdes ut genom ett typiskt urval där företag valdes som svarat utifrån vissa bestämda kriterier. Slutsats: Uppsatsen har belyst att den vanligaste processen att outsourca är tillverkning, men att även forskning och produktutveckling outsourcas till viss del. Detta berodde på att företag upplevde resurs- och kunskapsbrist inom de outsourcade processerna. Studien fann även att sambandet mellan anledningen till och utfallet av outsourcing var svagt. Däremot hamnade den ökade lönsamheten sist inom båda kategorierna. Det påvisades också att det är svårt att definiera en kärnprocess till branschen med anledning av den diversifiering som i dag karaktäriserar branschen. Däremot framkom produktutveckling som den vanligaste kärnprocessen inom företag, där det visade sig att företag inte tenderar att outsourca sin kärnprocess.<br>Background: Outsourcing is not a new phenomenon. Transaction cost theory was formed in 1937, which described that companies should transfer activities externally when this benefited companies financially. Since then, theories of outsourcing have changed and today, it has been switched to outsourcing of core competencies and a discussion of both opportunities and risks. In recent years the pharmaceutical industry has started to outsource their research and product development, which is considered a core process. Due to this there is a debate whether or not the industry has a core process. Purpose: The purposes of this thesis are to understand how and why the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry is outsourcing, how the outsourced processes relate to their core processes and how outsourcing affects the companies, both monetary and non-monetary. Method: The empirical evidence was gathered with both quantitative and qualitative methods. Firstly, a survey was conducted to get a general picture of how the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry outsources which was then followed by three interviews to gain an in-depth knowledge of why companies have made specified decisions regarding outsourcing. The companies were selected according to a number of specific criteria. Conclusion: The thesis has highlighted that manufacturing is the most common process of outsourcing, but also that research and product development is outsourced to some extent. This was due to the fact that companies experienced resource and knowledge shortage in the outsourced processes. The study also found that the relation between the reason and the outcome of outsourcing was weak. However, the increased profitability ended last in both categories. It was also found that it is difficult to define a core process within the industry due to the diversification that today characterizes the industry. On the other hand, product development appear to be the most common core process within companies, where it also shows that companies tend not to outsource their core process.

The purchasing process for transports is the process that ensures that the transport services for thecustomers are purchased. Wexiödisk experiences some problems regarding the purchasing process for transports in the form of lack of knowledge about the process’s activities, problems with standardization and feels that it is done in an old-fashioned way. This leads to waste, problems with delegation and inefficiency. An increased degree of outsourcing often leads to increased cost savings, but it is difficult to capture how costs change from managing the process internally to being managed by a third party. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify non-value creating activities that currently occurs in the purchasing process for transports by mapping the process, with the intention of developing and proposing improvement work. The purpose is also to identify and investigate how costs change and what factors may affect them in a potential outsourcing of the purchasing process for transports in SME, and to develop a cost model for identifying these costs. Method: This study is a one-case study using qualitative methods. Relevant data for the study were collected using un- and semi-structured interviews and as well as on-site observations. First, the process maps were created for the process for each market with theaim to create knowledge about the process’s activities and identifying non-value-creating activities. Subsequently, improvement proposals were identified to reduce waste. At the end, possible outsourcing of the process is analyzed and cost changes that can occur. Conclusions: The purchasing process for transport at Wexiödisk is characterized by anumber of manual work steps and short comings in the information flow that leads to waste, especially in the form of overworking. There are more non-value-creating activities regarding the process for the foreign market than the Swedish one. Improvement proposals that have been identified and can reduce waste are in form of digitalization and development of existing business systems and increased integration. Even increased standardization. Even increased standardization of the process can have positive effects on the process and a tool to achieve it is 5S. Several costs were identified by managing the process internally, especially indirect costs. The highest cost is personnel costs for the transport manager. Costs that may be incurred in outsourcing of the process were categorized into five categories, namely contract-related costs, transaction costs, entertainment and service costs, risk costs and hidden costs. These costs depend on various factors and the size may be greater or lower depending on different conditions.

Finding good suppliers makes much more senses for the companies nowadays as purchasing is one of the basis parts on the upstream of the supply chain.</p><p>China has been very successful on turning itself into a production powerhouse in just two decades, so how to find and select the convenient suppliers in China is a very important and modern topic.</p><p>The thesis has been starting with the introduction part, where the importance of outsourcing, Chinese current manufacturing capabilities and some other factors will be introduced. Besides, the purpose of this thesis is to study and analysis the criteria and processes are used by PCH International on the selection of suppliers in China. The authors try to understand how foreign companies find the right Chinese suppliers based on a case studying, which is PCH International, an Irish company.</p><p>Within the theoretical framework part, the authors discussed the supplier selection criteria firstly, which are very important and necessary to evaluate suppliers’ performances. Then the thesis was provided with an insight into some common theoretical methods, which followed by the supplier selection processes. Total Cost of Ownership, Data Envelopment Analysis and Mathematical Programming are presented in basic term. The part in the theoretical review was informed about the structure of the supplier selection process, starting with the preparation step, followed by prequalification and evaluation steps and resulting in the final selection of the suppliers.</p><p>In the methodology part, the approach for the research will be presented, it will be divided into four parts, which are choice of topic, choice of method, data collection, research’s validity and reliability.</p><p>The empirical finding part consists of practical information which was provided by the case company mentioned above through questionnaires and interviews. The values of the evaluation criteria are depend on the respective goals.</p><p>For data analysis, the theoretical evaluation models, on the other hand, are not used by this case. The company uses their own methods which are presented in the empirical part as well as in the analytical part of this thesis, the reasons will be describe carefully in this chapter.</p><p>Finally, this thesis ends with a conclusion, which with the answer of the research question.</p>

In dieser Arbeit wird untersucht, wie eine theoriegeleitete Bewertung der Auslagerungseignung von Geschäftsprozessen erfolgen kann und welche Ansatzpunkte für profitables Wachstum von Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)-Anbietern in Deutschland sich aus der Nutzung einer entsprechenden Methodik ableiten lassen. Dazu wird in drei Schritten vorgegangen. In einem ersten Schritt wird ein theoretisch-konzeptionelles Bewertungsmodell zur Bestimmung der Auslagerungseignung von Geschäftsprozessen entwickelt. In einem zweiten Schritt werden Möglichkeiten einer konzeptionellen Übertragung dieses Modells auf Praxisanwendungen geprüft. Im abschließenden dritten Schritt wird gezeigt, wie die Verwendung des in dieser Arbeit entwickelten Bewertungsmodells im Rahmen der Marktbearbeitungsaktivitäten von BPO-Dienstleistern einen Beitrag zum profitablen Wachstum dieser Anbieter leisten kann<br>In this thesis it is studied how a theory-based assessment of business processes regarding their adequacy for outsourcing can be carried out and what starting points for profitable growth of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) providers in Germany can result from the application of such a methodology. For this purpose a three step approach is taken. As a first step a theory-based concept of an assessment model to determine the adequacy of outsourcing business processes is developed. As a second step possibilities for transferring the concept of this model to real life applications are examined. An organization’s information technology (IT) infrastructure capability is increasinglyrealized as a critical part to business effectiveness and efficiency. IT infrastructure servicesare particularly important for organizations looking to deploy business processes indeveloping markets. There has also been an interest from many small and medium sizedorganizations whose core business is not in IT to outsource and manage these servicesthrough third party service providers. However there is a need to create an understanding forthese organizations to deploy the right infrastructure services in order to enable easierimplementation or reengineering of the business process. There has been little researchfocusing on the patterns of the IT infrastructure capabilities in the small and medium sizedorganizations in the developing markets.The research aims for a comprehensive coverage by analyzing the requirements in thedeveloping markets and proposing a selection model for the organizations to choose ITservice provider in case they decide to outsource the infrastructure services. The effect of theIT infrastructure services on the business process implementation is presented with anemphasis on the boundary crossing services. Using empirical case study, the research analysesa firm in developing markets and compares it against four strategically similar organizationsfrom different industries. Data collection was primarily qualitative and ably supported bysecondary data.The requirements in developing markets reflect the same as in mature markets. The pricing isseen to play a major role in the selection of the service providers with service security notvery much organization’s priority. The number of boundary crossing services effectivelyenables information sharing and control. These services are the drivers in simplifying thebusiness process implementation.
