Tripattana, Kanyika. "Telecommunications reform in Thailand : state-business relations." Thesis, University of Leicester, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/30552.

Full text
Abstract:
This study is about relations between the Thai state and telecommunications business during the reform between 1980 and 2000. These relations have changed from a 'Bureaucratic Polity' model before the late 1980s to partnership during the 1990s. These changes were resulted from the internal economic and political development and the external force of globalization; both bring the internationalisation of state, capital and labour. Through the reform, the business sector is gaining its influence through the implementation of liberalization policy. However, this study argues that the Thai state has been able to maintain a certain degree of autonomy in relation to the business sector during the reform. In explaining Thai state-business relations, this study applies Robert Cox's 'Mediator' State and a 'Framework for Action' and Gramsci's notion of hegemony as an analytical approach. These combined theoretical insights not only help to explain the changing relations of the Thai state and business during the reform, they also assist in addressing the relations between the Thai state and the world telecommunications order, as well as revealing conflict and co-operation among state agencies and between state-business players involved in the reform.

Abstract:
Thirty years after the bloodiest coup in its modern history, Turkey is now a democratizing country with a liberal market and a blooming civil society. This transformation is attributed to the democratic potential and deeds of Turkey’s Islamic bourgeoisie, which has been an ardent supporter of the internationally monitored program of market liberalization and the EU integration/reform process since the 1990s. Muslim businesses’ curious relationship with the secular Turkish state and traditional business elites presents a compelling case for interest group theory. This dissertation evaluates the interest group theories’ propositions on policy-based interaction between state institutions and business interest groups to conclude that in most countries, hybrid models emerge, bringing together elements of pluralism and corporatism. The dissertation discusses the evolution and application in Turkey of interest group theories – particularly corporatism, clientelism and pluralism – and identifies the secular and Islamic business communities in Turkey to assess Islamic business associations’ economic and political influence on AKP era policies and business-state relations. The research offers two conclusions: Turkey’s Islamic business associations are able to access AKP government’s economic and social policymaking via traditional and new corporatist structures and to enjoy a close working relationship with the government and the state institutions. Their enhanced policy influence is as much a result of the moral, sociocultural and religious alignment between their members, Turkey’s Muslim conservative capitalists, and the AKP leadership as a consequence of the professionalism and organizational capacity of Islamic business associations. The prevalence of Muslim conservative actors in Turkey’s society, culture, politics and economy, as observed via Islamic business associations in this dissertation, do not pose a clear and imminent threat to the secular and democratic foundations of the Turkish Republic because Muslim conservative businessmen are pragmatists, who recognize and respond to domestic and transnational social, economic and political dynamics. Also, their religious affiliation is exaggerated to the extent that their Muslimness became a red herring, diverting the attention of spectators and analysts from the real problem with Turkey’s democratization and marketization process: the failures in the practice and implementation of the essential legal/institutional reforms that would bring about a plural, transparent and accountable policymaking environment.

Abstract:
This thesis seeks to understand how state-business relations are affected by wider societal transformations. These transformations influence the potentially crony capitalist type of state society relations. I analyzed the evolution of state-business relations in Morocco. I highlighted three different factors which affected state-business relations and potentially can offset negative consequences of crony capitalism. Fragmentation of state institutions, political factions and economic actors and the maintenance of cross-cutting alliances by the monarchy have resulted in a fragmented-multiclass state. In addition, the changing nature of the role of the state in the economy had profound implications on state-business relations in Morocco. Paradoxically, the fragmented nature of Morocco, which is the result of cross-cutting coalitions between the monarchy and society, meant that the state did not fall exclusively in the hands of private interests. The pivotal position of the monarchy in economic and political life has enabled the monarchy to fragment opposition and forge diverse alliances to maintain its support-base. My theoretical approach using a macro-historical analysis coupled with process tracing of various policy domains proved to be a useful methodology for this type of research which falls in the nexus of politics and economics. Given this my thesis made a contribution to both Middle East studies as well as the wider literature on state-business relations. In addition, my research contributes to the wider debate on the resilience of monarchies in the aftermath of the Arab spring.

Lai, Yanqing. "Employee relations in SMEs : an empirical approach using the Workplace Employment Relation Survey (WERS 2011)." Thesis, Kingston University, 2016. http://eprints.kingston.ac.uk/35057/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is a paper-based thesis. Using a large-scale matched employee-employer dataset, three empirical studies were undertaken to empirically examine: 1) the relationship between employee attitudes, human resource management practices and firm performance in SMEs; 2) the effect of the firm size on firms’ and employees’ experience during the recent financial crisis, particularly firm’s employment related responses to the economic hardship; and 3) the impact of firm size on employee’s experience of work stress during economic recession. The findings of the first study suggest a direct relationship between HRM practices and SME firm performance, but this relationship is moderated by high employee job satisfaction. The results suggest that HR policies and practices may improve small firm performance, especially within firms with low levels of commitment and satisfaction. The estimation results presented in the second study show that SMEs are more vulnerable during times of economic hardship than larger firms, but those with HR practices have shown more resilience to the downturn. There is a significant firm-size effect on the choice of specific HRM measures in response to the recession, and having HR practices increases the likelihood of the firm to adopt organizational measures. Also, the results indicate that the differences in workers’ job experience are moderated by high management formality. For the final empirical research, employees in SMEs experience lower level of overall job stress than those in large enterprise, although the effect disappears once the employee-level and firm-level characteristics are taken into consideration. Finally, the findings suggest that the association and magnitude of estimated effects of the work stressor presented in the Cooper and Marshall’s work stress model differ significantly by firm size. Overall, the thesis has made significant contribution to the employee relations in SMEs literature and provide interesting academic and policy oriented findings.

al-Hamoudi, Waleed. "The business of politics and the politics of business : Anglo-Saudi relations in the contemporary era, 1991 -2006." Thesis, King's College London (University of London), 2014. https://kclpure.kcl.ac.uk/portal/en/theses/the-business-of-politics-and-the-politics-of-business(38798f1c-5aec-4147-a8d0-53d5b3794735).html.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the Anglo-Saudi bilateral relationship in the political, security and economic spheres in the period between 1990 and 2006. This was a decade and a half that saw the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent US-led international coalition to remove him from Saudi Arabia’s smaller neighbour. It also saw the birth of Saudi-born al-Qaeda, the September 2001 (9/11) attacks on the United States and the subsequent US-led invasion of Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003). All of these events had a profound impact on Saudi Arabia’s security situation. But they also impacted on the socio-economic direction of the country and forced the nation to look inwards to identify its failings as well as its strengths. Through all this Britain was one of the external parties that worked most closely with the Saudi leadership in every sphere. As chapter one of this thesis shows, the British engagement with the founder of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz AlSaud (aka Ibn Saud), can be traced back to the very beginning of his rise to greatness. As the dominant western power in the Middle East at the start of the twentieth century, Britain had a major influence on the evolution of the Saudi state in its earliest years. This chapter highlights the highs and lows in the bilateral relationship both in the years between World War I and II and during the Cold War era as Britain saw its status as the dominant western player in the Middle East be superseded by the United States. This chapter ends on the eve of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Chapter two examines the bilateral Anglo-Saudi relationship in the context of this unprecedented crisis. Chapter three examines the economic relationship between these two countries from the end of the Gulf crisis of the early 1990s until the end of the period under study in 2006. In particular, it examines this important issue in terms of the arms trade between the two countries and the record breaking al-Yamamah arms deal of the 1980s and 1990s. Chapters 4 and 5 looks at the strains and tensions, as well as opportunities for cooperation, in the areas of counter-terrorism, human rights and democratisation that followed the 9/11 attacks on the US. Chapter 6 examines how the US-led invasion of Iraq impacted on bilateral relations between London and Riyadh. Throughout the major contention at the heart of this thesis is that despite major strains and stresses on bilateral relations, Anglo-Saudi ties between 1990 and 2006 not only developed positively in many areas but flourished.

McMenamin, Kevin Iain. "The 'soft state' : business-government relations in post-communist Poland." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2005. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/3044/.

Full text
Abstract:
I define modes of business-government relations by the actor, which represents business. In the association state, business associations are dominant. In the company state, the firm directly represents itself. In the party state, access to the political system is mediated by parties, with which businesses must identify themselves. In the soft state, the personal connections of businesspeople are the dominant channel of influence. The existing literature on business-government very rarely acknowledges that each mode forms part of the environment of business- government relations for the other modes. Of the four modes, by far the least attention has been given to personalism. I find the association state to be weak because large numbers of small firms, weak trade unions and the sectoral configuration of Polish business present few incentives for the formation of business associations. The company state is usually associated with foreign and state enterprises. Foreign direct investment has been relatively modest in Poland. When state enterprises directly engage with the state, they tend to do so, not as businesses, but in alliance with trade unions. The party state is undermined by the high governmental turnover in Poland. It makes no sense for business to commit itself to parties, which are only temporary rulers. The soft state is found to be the dominant form of business-government relations. The sources of personalism are partially hidden behind complex personal histories. However, involvement in youth organisations is a powerful predictor of the level of personal connections to politicians amongst the business elite. Fundamental, and unlikely, changes to political competition and economic structure are necessary for Poland to become an association or a party state. In contrast, foreign ownership is increasing and state ownership is decreasing and transforming itself. Some of the conditions for personalism are also being undermined. In the future, instead of being a soft state, permeated by personal interests, Polish business government relations may move towards the company state.

Day, Marc. "Buyer-supplier relations in the UK tableware supply chain." Thesis, Keele University, 1999. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.251684.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis challenges the idea that buyer-supplier relations can be objectively 'managed' in all cases by firms in the same 'supply chain'. The study examines this argument in relation to a small network of buyer and supplier finns in one industry, ceramic tableware production. The first significant gap found in the 'supply chain management' literature was that the focus of research failed to examine in significant detail the intricacies of why organizations are often forced to 'react' to changes in inter-finn relations, rather than being able to 'manage' such events. A second gap in existing research was its bias toward researching a limited set of industries such as automotives and food production, where manufacturers or assemblers often hold pivotal roles in the supply chain. A final gap in supply chain research was the weak linkage between supply chain management and wider debates relating to productive and organizational change. In addition, the area of literature encapsulating discussions relating to the industrial agglomeration of finns within the 'industrial district' has been used in the past to chart shifting structures for buyer-supplier and infrastructural organization. A strong analytical approach is developed in this thesis that shows the 'softer' aspects of supply chain interaction. The research shows that, although it is possible to 'manage' the pattern of interaction in a network from a focal finn perspective, wider inter-personal, dyadic and network activities do present difficulties in this 'management' activity. This leads to the conclusion that 'supply chain management' may not be a clear cut activity which is simple to apply. At the aggregated network level of interaction, piecemeal evidence was found to support claims for any significant shift in buyer-supplier relations or productive organization that is encapsulated in any of the variant fonns of the Marshallian 'industrial district'.

Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In this research report we learned how important it is to have an understanding of human behaviour. If one has a good understanding on how people function and operate, it is easier to work with other people and it is easier to understand one another. The writer learned that there is not a big difference between the results of the study done by De Villiers (1985) and this study. There are a few differences that can be found in Chapter 5. Sons and fathers are often confused on what role the son plays in the family business. This problem is usually a direct consequence of bad communication. In Chapter 2 we can read how important good communication is. There is often no exit strategy for the father in the family business. It is important to have an exit strategy on paper. The reason for an exit strategy is to have a goal to work towards. This is just a plan to see when it will be possible for the father to retire, and for the son to make plans for his future. Sons and fathers usually have different opinions. Marshack (2003) says in Chapter 2 that through conflict the younger generation can make a mark in the business if they come up with a proper and different solution. In Chapter 2 you can read more about resolving conflict. The writer hopes that you will have more answers on the implications in management and human relations when a son/daughter enters a family business after studying this research project.

Abstract:

Pivavarava, Alena. "The state-business relations and the foreign investment decisions of Russian firms." Thesis, Aston University, 2018. http://publications.aston.ac.uk/37524/.

Full text
Abstract:
The present thesis strives to explore and comprehend the propensity of the firms from a major EM country, namely Russia, to expand their operations and boundaries beyond the domestic market and transit of multinationality. The prime aim and motivation of the endearvoured investigation lies in embedding the FDI behaviour of Russian firms in a novel context of the evolution of state business relations and the dynamics of organisational genesis, observed in the Russian state over the turbulent years of the neo-liberal and catching-up reforms. To attain a better level of comprehension of the heterogeneous FDI behaviour of the EM firms than conventionally offered in the IB theories, the present study takes a different path and elaborates a framework that adequately conceptualises the novelties of the empirical context by drawing upon network economics and political science. The suggested comceptual framework relates the drastic shifts in relational powers amid the major forces in the Russian economy and co-evolving political and economic networks to the FDI behaviour of the Russian firms, and also disentagles the FDI outcomes across the novel organisational forms reconstucted or newly-emerging during the three distinct periods of the state-business relations, commonly overlooked amid IB studies. Besides rigorously testing the importance of conventional firm's attributes for the initial transition of the Russian firms to multnationality and the subsequent expansion of their networks of foreign subsidiaries, the developed tim-continuous FDI transtion models disentangle the relational mechanisms of domination and influence within the hybrid intra-state networks founded by Russian firms.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the EU's commercial relations with Asia (in this case, South East Asia and North East Asia), with a particular focus on the investigation of the EU's commercial and business engagement at three different levels—transregional (ASEM), interregional (EUASEAN) relations and bilateral (EU–Thailand) relations—during the period 1994–2004. Its most general inspiration is the study of International Political Economy (IPE), particularly the interrelations and interactions between states and firms, or governments and business, in the changing global political economy. It argues that one can no longer conceive of EU–Asia commercial relationships during the post-Cold War period only as traditional government-to-government relations, but that business and firms (non-states) and the EU (a quasi-state) have become significant actors performing commercial roles alongside states in these relationships.

Abstract:
Most research on stock prices is based on the present value model or the more general consumption-based model. When applied to real economic data, both of them are found unable to account for both the stock price level and its volatility. Three essays here attempt to both build a more realistic model, and to check whether there is still room for bubbles in explaining fluctuations in stock prices. In the second chapter, several innovations are simultaneously incorporated into the traditional present value model in order to produce more accurate model-based fundamental prices. These innovations comprise replacing with broad dividends the more narrow traditional dividends that are more commonly used, a nonlinear artificial neural network (ANN) forecasting procedure for these broad dividends instead of the more common linear forecasting models for narrow traditional dividends, and a stochastic discount rate in place of the constant discount rate. Empirical results show that the model described above predicts fundamental prices better, compared with alternative models using linear forecasting process, narrow dividends, or a constant discount factor. Nonetheless, actual prices are still largely detached from fundamental prices. The bubble-like deviations are found to coincide with business cycles. The third chapter examines possible cointegration of stock prices with fundamentals and non-fundamentals. The output gap is introduced to form the non-fundamental part of stock prices. I use a trivariate Vector Autoregression (TVAR) model and a single equation model to run cointegration tests between these three variables. Neither of the cointegration tests shows strong evidence of explosive behavior in the DJIA and S&P 500 data. Then, I applied a sup augmented Dickey-Fuller test to check for the existence of periodically collapsing bubbles in stock prices. Such bubbles are found in S&P data during the late 1990s. Employing econometric tests from the third chapter, I continue in the fourth chapter to examine whether bubbles exist in stock prices of conventional economic sectors on the New York Stock Exchange. The ‘old economy’ as a whole is not found to have bubbles. But, periodically collapsing bubbles are found in Material and Telecommunication Services sectors, and the Real Estate industry group.

Sharkey, John. "The influence of British business interests on Anglo-Japanese relations, 1933-1937." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 1994. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/1269/.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine and explain the impact of British business interests, outside of China, on Anglo-Japanese foreign relations and whether these business pressures contributed to the destablisation or amelioration of political tensions. Between 1933 and 1937 there were a series of major commercial disputes between Britain and Japan, in the cotton and shipping industries and over the Japanese treatment of British oil interests in Japan and Manchukuo, which following Japan's pursuit of an aggressive and unilateral policy in East Asia complicated an already strained Anglo-Japanese relationship. Thus the scale of Anglo-Japanese commercial friction offered substantial scope for political repercussions. In order to assess the impact of business pressure this study will focus upon the relationship between business groups and the British government, which provides the basis for determining the impact of business interests upon British policy towards Japan. By detailing the interaction between government and business this study hopes to establish which factors were most prominent in shaping the government's response to the demands of business and the needs of Anglo-Japanese relations. This requires the examination of the economic and political factors that motivated business demands for government support, and the economic, political and foreign policy factors that guided the response of the British government. However, it also requires the examination of relationships within business groups and the government as a means of establishing the constraints upon business and government's response to Anglo-Japanese commercial friction. Conclusions are drawn which indicate that because of an ingrained 'conservatism' to commercial questions both the business community and government avoided exacerbating commercial tensions with Japan, and consequently business interests had only a limited impact upon Anglo-Japanese relations.

Ly, Linda. "Performance Appraisal in a Family Business." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2017. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10605651.

Full text
Abstract:

This qualitative study explored the perceptions of effectiveness of a performance review process at one family business. Ten employees across the firm were interviewed in order to describe the process, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and offer suggestions for improvement. Findings suggest that participants understood the process steps and timing, but had less accurate understanding of the process outcomes. Participants generally perceived the process as fair, helpful, and valuable to their development. Noted strengths included the process design and support from direct managers, executive leaders, and the organization. Weaknesses included the lack of structure, poor consistency in ratings, timing issues, and lack of goal alignment. Recommendations include improving the rating system, adjusting the process timing and structure, leveraging evaluation data as a talent management tool, and increasing stakeholder involvement. However, these study findings are considered exploratory, and more research should be conducted to determine how representative these findings are of family businesses.

Abstract:
The small business sector has become an increasingly important segment of the Australian economy since the 1970s. Industrial relations in the sector have been assumed to be harmonious. However, to a large extent this belief about industrial relations is based on conventional wisdom rather empirical evidence. Industrial relations research in Australia has concentrated on medium to large businesses because the centralised nature of the industrial relations system encouraged a collective emphasis. This collective emphasis ensured peak representative bodies and larger organisations had a tendency to dominate while small enterprises and their employees were, to a large extent, excluded. The perceived non-problematic nature of industrial relations in the small business sector was another reason for the lack of focus on the sector. The low incidence of strike activity and the low levels of trade union membership have meant research has been concentrated on the more "difficult" areas of industrial relations. The lack of empirical research into industrial relations in the sector is an important shortcoming. There are a number of commentators who suggest that it is too simplistic to assume harmonious relations. It is likely that there is a range of industrial relations in small business, depending on a number of variables including the personality of the owner/manager and employees, the type of business and the current economic climate. The legislative framework will also have an important affect on industrial relations. This study addresses the lack of empirical research in industrial relations in the small business sector by examining the differences between small and large registered clubs in NSW. Registered clubs have an unusual ownership structure and unusual business goals. They are also unusual since they are non-profit organisations formed by groups of people who share a common interest and who have come together to pursue or promote that interest. Registered clubs are governed by a board of directors who are responsible for the formulation of policy and for ensuring that management carries out these policies. This study found that there were significant differences in regards to some aspects of employment relations. For example, small clubs were more likely to have lower rates of unionisation than large clubs. They were also likely to have lower levels of informal bargaining than large clubs. The methods of communication within the workplace were likely to be more informal in small clubs and they were less likely to have communications with a trade union. Despite this greater degree of informality in employment relations, small clubs were more likely to use award provisions to determine wages for their managers and employees. Interestingly, despite the lower level of unionisation and the greater use of awards by smaller clubs there were no significant differences between small and large club managers' perception of the impact of awards and trade unions on club flexibility. The findings from this study suggest the deregulation of the Australian industrial relations system may not have any significant benefits for small business.

Black, John. "Control and consent : management-employee relations in manufacturing industry." Thesis, University of Wolverhampton, 1998. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.266623.

Full text
Abstract:
The Portfolio and accompanying Commentary explore the dynamics of the labour process in manufacturing industry. This is done by means of a series of case studies from the UK and the US exploring the evolving workplace relations from the late 1970s to the present day. Management -employee relations are explored in terms of a triangulation, the three corners of which are, management, unions and employees. The major questions revolve around the conditions, limits and possibilities of labour- management co-operation. Whilst employing Labour Process theory, the work addresses some of its limitations. It attempts to present an analysis which is more sensitive both to situational and historical factors, as well as to qualify some of its theoretical limitations. These include its overly deterministic nature and the tendency to portray aspects of the employment relationship in terms of false dichotomies. The concept of "dualism" is thus central to the analysis, and the concepts of "dual commitment" and "incorporation" are also employed in order to help explain the inter-relationships between management, union and employees. The longitudinal perspective also allows examination of the extent to which the agendas of "Thatcherism" have led to the demise of collectivism, changed attitudes towards management, created new expectations of the union, and hence implications for the strategies of the latter. The work has implications for union and management policies, particularly with respect to their mutual engagement in the context of the UK acceding to the Social Chapter, and the potential for "social partnership".

Abstract:
The thesis explores the nature of transnational legalisation by identifying one emerging norm - corporate accountability for human rights violations - and tracing its promotion through three separate pathways of legalisation. At the domestic level, the thesis discusses the jurisprudence of domestic courts that have contemplated assuming extraterritorial jurisdiction over alleged human rights violations of transnational corporations (TNCs) in other states. At the international level, the thesis considers developments in the United Nations (UN), which in 2011 launched a new normative framework to bolster the accountability of TNCs in respect of human rights. At the transnational level, the thesis discusses the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPs), which have been selected as representative of the range of hybrid schemes increasingly developed by government and industry representatives to ameliorate the impact of TNCs on human rights. The thesis also develops a framework with which to analyse these trends by adopting (and further developing) the liberal institutionalist tool of legalisation, which is described in Kenneth Abbott et al's 'The Concept of Legalisation'. This thesis argues that this classic framework can be adapted and reimagined in the context of the transnational legal system, which is characterised by thick configurations of agents working across a multiplicity of issue areas. I suggest that in applying the classic framework in the transnational context, there appears to be an omitted variable - that of implementation, which exists alongside obligation, precision, and delegation. Implementation refers to the specific actions taken by agents to translate legal or law-like principles into practical, workable instructions for courts, governments, companies and other non-state actors to follow. The thesis argues that an increased focus on implementation generally leads to more effective or greater legalisation. The empirical chapters demonstrate that efforts in implementation are often undertaken for the purpose of strengthening one or more other legalisation characteristics in the long run. This suggests that agents will be willing to accept lower levels of obligation, precision and/or delegation if they believe a focus on implementation will help strengthen these characteristics over time.

Nelson, Janet Ann. "Here Be Dragons| How Global Business Executives Navigate Change and Paradox." Thesis, The George Washington University, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10747735.

Abstract:

Here Be Dragons: How Global Business Executives Navigate Change and Paradox Globalization has resulted in increased international trade, enhanced information flows, diasporas, and a greater dependence on the global economy, as well as dramatically changing the context in which leaders operate today. Studies show that there is a shortage of global leaders and that most organizations are concerned that this lack of global leadership skills may threaten corporate performance and continued business growth. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine how senior executives in globally integrated business enterprises navigate change, as viewed through the lens of paradox theory. This exploratory study employed a basic qualitative design. Data were collected from 23 global executives, working for 20 unique global enterprises, in 12 different functions, across 18 different industries, through a preinterview participant qualifying profile, an in-depth semistructured interview, and follow-up verification.

The key findings of this study build on existing research and show that (1) executives who are global leaders are contextual leaders; (2) global leadership roles are inherently paradoxical because they balance both task complexities and relationship complexities; (3) for these global executives, change is continuous and contextual; (4) paradox is the process that global executives use to navigate continuous change; (5) global executives are savvy sensemakers; (6) the global leadership capabilities to navigate paradox can be learned, and global leaders are constant and agile learners; and (7) to navigate change, executives who are global leaders oscillate/balance constantly by navigating paradox + sensemaking + learning. The study concludes with implications for theory and practice, along with recommendations for further research.

Abstract:
Successful economies are dependent on successful industries. The present study explores how business success could be improved in three selected industries, namely the motorcar, high-technology and food manufacturing industries. These industries are vital to growing the economy of countries. The present study made a significant contribution towords identifying a theoretical model to improve the business success of the motorcar, high technology amd the food manufacturing industries. The study showed that various combinations of product launching stategies (distribution channel development, product image, third-party agreements, pricing, e-business, and e-saving), as well as organisational variables (TQM and market culture) are important agreements to achieve increased sales growth and CRM effectiveness.
