Abstract:
Business-to-business (B2B) corruption, also known as private corruption, refers to unethical or illicit activities between private parties, without the direct participation of the state. Existing literature on the topic, while still limited, has taken several avenues, from qualitative studies to perception-based surveys and research experiments. Upon reviewing key studies and their findings, this article concentrates on research questions related to: business people’s perceptions on the determinants that favor B2B corruption in Romania, consequences of the phenomenon, and potential solutions. Findings are based on primary data collected through a 2019 questionnaire administered to 120 business leaders in Romania. Results confirm earlier studies’ findings that general context, malfunction of the institutions, and mentality favor B2B corruption, and that there is a lack of consensus among the business community on how to recognize and deal with various forms of B2B corruption, despite the widely spread belief that B2B corruption negatively affects business activities. Also, both internal and external solutions are considered to work against B2B corruption. The current article also opens new avenues in the literature, showing that: the probability to face B2B corruption increases with business leaders’ professional experience; preferences on how to deal with corruption cases vary based on a firm’s capital structure (domestic vs. foreign), reflecting the importance of organizational culture; and business leaders overwhelmingly want to fight against B2B corruption through both internal and external measures. Substantial progress, however, will require a proper common understanding by the private sector of what constitutes B2B corruption, including its causes, consequences, and remedies.

Abstract:
In order to solve environmental problems, a transition from conventional business to environmentally conscious business (eco-business) is urgently needed. Support for finding eco-business ideas will help to promote this transition. As a step in this direction, this paper takes an approach that provides a business designer with general rules and prerequisites extracted from existing eco-businesses. This paper collects 130 examples of eco-businesses in Japan and then investigates and classifies them to develop general guidelines and checklists for success. As a result, four kinds of customer value provided by eco-businesses, eight rules that couple the the reduction of environmental load of society with the four customer values, and eight rules for cutting business costs are derived. A tool for planning a new eco-businesses is also proposed.

Salander, Britta. "Emotionality in business-to-business marketing communications." Thesis, Northumbria University, 2011. http://nrl.northumbria.ac.uk/2026/.

Full text
Abstract:
The presence and value of emotionality in non-personal business-to-business marketing communications is questioned in literature despite existing knowledge about emotional behaviour of individuals in organisational decision-making units. However, as competition and globalisation increases, the need for differentiation and unique positioning intensifies. The role of emotions in establishing emotional differentiation through advertising is accepted in consumer research, yet little is known about the presence and characteristics of emotionality in business-to-business print advertising targeting an organisational audience. The purpose of this research was therefore to determine the presence and executional style of emotion-laden business-to-business print advertising and to identify themes and patterns of emotionality. Four German trade publications from the manufacturing and engineering sector, comprising all issues of the year 2008 with a sample size of 2000 advertisements were content analysed. Consistent findings revealed that emotionality was used in a substantial number of business-to-business print advertisements and was distributed equally across all four magazines. Emotionality was significantly associated with the use of colour and visuals, and with the size and position of advertisements in the magazine. Emotional techniques relating to content used visual components like the depiction of persons and objects, and the style of visual representation primarily contained symbols of association and metaphors. Dominant emotional stimuli were humour, trustworthiness/reliability and pride/success, which mirror the emotional world of organisational buyers. The results thus demonstrate the relevance of emotionality in non-personal business-to-business marketing communications and indicate that to a certain extent business-to-business marketers use emotional techniques as a strategic element in marketing communications.

Abstract:
Calls for the inclusion of sustainable development in the business curriculum have increased significantly in the wake of the financial crisis and increased concerns around climate change. This has led to the appearance of new initiatives and the development of new teaching approaches. This thesis explores business education at the upper secondary school level in Sweden following the inclusion of the concept of sustainable development in the curriculum. Drawing on poststructuralist discourse theory, the overarching purpose is to identify the roles of a responsible business person that are articulated in business education and to discuss how these roles could enable students to address sustainability issues. The thesis consists of four studies, based on textbook analyses, teacher interviews and classroom observations. Three categories of roles have been identified, implying that a business person is expected to either adapt to, add or create ethical values. These three categories are compared with the roles indicated in the environmental discourses constructed by Dryzek and the responsibility regimes developed by Pellizzoni. Drawing on Dryzek’s and Pellizzoni’s reasoning about which qualities are important for addressing sustainability issues, it is concluded that the roles identified in the studies could mean that students are unequipped (the adapting role), ill-equipped (the adding role) or better equipped (the creating role) to address uncertain and complex sustainability issues. The articles include empirical examples that illustrate how and in which situations specific roles are articulated, privileged or taken up. The examples also indicate how the scope for business students’ subjectivities are facilitated or hampered. It is suggested that the illustrative empirical examples could be used for critical reflection in order to enhance students’capabilities of addressing uncertain and complex sustainability issues and to improve educational quality in terms of scope for subjectivity.

Abstract:

Most of today's knowledge of Business-to-Business marketing is grounded on studies conducted in so-called western countries. Recently some researchers have started to question the validity of concepts, ideas and measures conceived in developed markets to explain business marketing phenomena in non-western contexts. Moreover research has attributed this gap in the literature on the relative absence of Business-to-Business marketing research from emerging, non-western countries (see, for example, Biggemann and Fam, 2011.) In emerging markets firms also operate in large networks that contains multiple, complex, direct and indirect business relationships among buyers and sellers. The thesis draws on four different empirical studies to integrate key sets of knowledge spawned from the realms of the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing group (IMP) to observe Business-to-Business relationships in a South African context.

Abstract:
This study examined the extent to which small businesses, with an international focus, are employing formaI business planning techniques and the extent to which such techniques contribute to the success of these businesses. The study was based on the hypothesis that small business success is associated with formal business planning. Indicators of both formal business planning, the independent variable, and small business success, the dependent variable, were developed. Survey research was conducted to generate and analyze data gathered from one hundred business owners/operators of small businesses, with an international focus, located within the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). A five-page questionnaire was developed and a survey analysis grid was designed. The researcher found that those businesses practicing formal business planning techniques were more successful than those not employing them. The conclusions drawn from these findings suggest that formal business planning contributes to the success of small businesses with an international focus.

Abstract:

The relationship between organizations and their customers is a critical issue when establishing a long-term relationship. It is difficult for organizations to really manage and main-tain the relationship with their customers as some organizations fail to build up relationships.

The process of learning and adapting to other customers is costly and time intensive. This is an issue that needs to be taken into consideration. Another aspect that needs to be looked at is the way organizations can set up a plan to build a competitive advantage. With this, most organizations do tend to loose their customers due to the inability to use their resources well and also managing them effectively.

This paper examines the relationship between the supplier and the customer and the possibilities of managing and maintaining the customer relationship.

Qualitative analysis is used in this paper since it is the appropriate method to meet our purpose. There were two companies interviewed from the logistic industry and mechanical industry.

Finally, our result in this paper indicates that in order to maintain customers, it is vital for organizations to meet their needs. As a result, satisfaction and loyalty is the ultimate goal for organization to maintain their customers. This is the way of avoiding key and non-key customers from leaving and also strengthening the relationship.

Abstract:

Business models have been a hot topic for managers, journalists and researchers ever since the dotcom era. There are many suggestions about how to interpret them, but few studies have focused on the actual design process that occurs when companies consciously consider them and improve them. This action research based case study aims at filling this lack of studies and looks at the practical experiences of conducting a business model design project in a company. The design project described in the case study was a success in terms of participant satisfaction. The study suggests, however, that it is difficult to use surveys to measure the changes in managers’ perception of how the company’s business model changes due to a design project. Other observations include the importance of management involvement in the design process, the need for candor and the significance of a discussion facilitator and a discussion triggerer. A description of business model design components are recommended based on the experiences of the case study. These components include: identifying the purpose of a project, defining the business model framework, suggesting business model tools, and creating the resulting business model.

Abstract:
Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) has been developing in different methods, perspectives and frameworks since introducing step. Futures Studies as a specialized framework and methodology has introduced newer and has been always in developing phase too. MADM as a part of Multiple Criteria Decision Making is known as multi-disciplinary approach, framework and methodology. Nowadays, Futures Studies is also known as multi-disciplinary approach too. Basically, MADM is structured for a stable environment while most decisions need to be made, dynamically. Time is so much important especially in the new century in comparison with the past. Decisions making about future are usually so complicated and MADM can be helpful in that process. Importance of making future based decisions is undeniable in trying to answer to decision needs. This research will present a comprehensive review on the literature of MADM and new orientations in considering future in MADM models and necessity of them will be checked also carefully. Eventually, importance of seeing both MADM and Futures Studies together as a unit model will be discussed in this study.

Abstract:
A large empirical literature has shown that countries that trade more with each other have more correlated business cycles. We show that previous estimates of this relationship are biased upward because they ignore common trade exposure to other countries. When we account for common trade exposure to foreign business cycles, we find that (1) the effect of bilateral trade on business cycle comovement falls by roughly 25 percent and (2) common exposure is a significant driver of business cycle comovement. A standard international real business cycle model is qualitatively consistent with these facts but fails to reproduce their magnitudes. Past studies have used models that allow for productivity shock transmission through trade to strengthen the relationship between trade and comovement. We find that productivity shock transmission increases business cycle comovement largely because of a country-pair's common trade exposure to other countries rather than because of bilateral trade. When we allow for stronger transmission between small open economies than other country-pairs, comovement increases both from bilateral trade and common exposure, similar to the data.

Abstract:
Against the backdrop of the fourth industrial revolution, this paper examines the emergence of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) as one of the new technologies that are shaping the future of work and reconfiguring sectoral business and innovation systems and models. It discusses how the institutional context can potentially mediate the digital transformation of services, how RPA affects workers’ employment and skills, and how it alters inter-organisational relationships and capabilities. Bringing together different strands of academic literature on employment studies, innovation, and technology studies, it deploys a comparative institutional perspective to explore the potential effects of RPA and illustrates their plausibility through mini case studies from knowledge-intensive business services

Abstract:
In the global economic model, the service sector continues to gain ground on the manufacturing sector and trends such as the integration of new technologies into production processes are advancing inexorably. Advanced economies are pushed to specialise, supported by their regional innovation systems, and cities are emerging as key and strategic centres of activity. In this context, Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) are presented as critical due to their capacity to promote innovation within the regional productive fabric and smart specialisation strategies, the promotion of advanced manufacturing, the generation of quality employment and the stimulation of economic growth, especially in urban environments. This is why many cities, prioritizing KIBS to stimulate their economy, need to create and retain talent for this sort of industry. Likewise, vocational and education training (VET) systems, such as the Basque VET system, have so far developed their greatest strengths in the field of manufacturing knowledge. Due to this, VET seems to be obliged to adapt to this new scenario, in which KIBS and cities stand out, in order to continue to maintain their level of excellence. KIBS have been extensively examined, but until now no one had posed the following questions: What is the role of vocational training in KIBS? To what extent are VET profiles (and will VET profiles be) relevant in KIBS? This study will show an emerging trend in the labour market. This is the growing relevance of technology profiles with VET background in KIBS, especially in technology-based KIBS. VET technology profiles can be consolidated as one of the main implementing agents of the digital transformation (cybersecurity, blockchain, cloud computing, UX design, artificial intelligence, scientific computing...). To this end, hybridisation with other fields of knowledge but also with studies of other kinds such as university studies may be essential.
