Observable harm has been inflicted upon business by unethical decisions and misconduct. Much of this phenomenon can be traced to impoverished ethical attitudes. Among the various reasons for this problem is that of a manager's culture, which has a distinct influence on attitudes and behaviors. The purpose of this chapter was to determine, through empirical data, whether differences rooted in culture significantly contribute to differences in ethical attitudes. Management scholar Geert Hofstede's classification of cultural elements for understanding and explaining aspects of national culture was correlated with the ethical attitudes of business managers in the two national cultures of the United States and Mexico. Results indicated a significant positive relationship between national culture and ethical attitudes and the dultural dimensions of uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, and long-term orientation. A significant difference in ethical attitudes between managers from the United States and Mexico was also found.

This chapter is a reflection on the ethical distinctions between two cultures that share the same civilization (i.e., Mexico and the United States). This concluding chapter summarizes the major points of the preceding chapters. For the period up to World War I, it became clear that the elites of the United States, and its businessmen on the East and West coasts in particular, saw their country as a highly dynamic and modern industrial and financial power. Based on the idea of a competitive capitalism, American big business, in the wake of the great merger wave of the late nineteenth century and congressional legislation that had banned the formation of cartels and monopolies, developed in the direction of an oligopolistic market organization. These developments shaped corporate attitudes and practices toward the domestic and international economy from 1900 onward. No less important, the emergence of the United States as a major industrial power stirred Britain and Germany into responses to the American challenge.

Though millions of school-aged children and youth are increasingly drawn to Japanese animation, or anime, schools in the United States have not capitalized on this potential conduit for cultural learning. This entails a significant loss in terms of the potential to reorient internationally-focused humanities and social science curricula towards culturally-relevant pedagogy. It would be helpful to explore how two populations that would likely be directly involved in anime curricula's implementation make sense of anime's pedagogical potential. This chapter explores the attitudes of Japanese animation fans towards the prospect of using anime in K-12 school curricula in contrast to the attitudes of aspiring public school teachers. Interview data from forty-four anime fans and forty-four aspiring teachers were analyzed to locate plotlines involving hypothetical teachers and students using anime in a classroom setting. Implications for teacher training programs and school curricula are discussed.

This chapter reviews the habits and attitudes of students towards print and media-based literacies, as well as tips and ideas on how to meet the needs of digital learners across various contexts including issues of access. There is wide variety among dance studios in the United States, but ballet has been fundamental to most of them over the twentieth century. Ballet teachers come from a variety of backgrounds, including both professional dance careers and many kinds of teacher training. Good ballet teachers offer a progressive sequence and think about how to interact with students in the studio, whether they are teaching purely recreational or pre-professional classes. Good training can take place in less than ideal physical facilities, though the type of flooring is particularly important. Teachers should be knowledgeable about both ballet pedagogy and the business skills necessary to run dance studios. There is no one group overseeing the quality of ballet classes or the qualifications of teachers, though dance teacher organizations have tried to provide teacher training since the early twentieth century. Dance teacher organizations have also represented their members’ legal and professional interests.

The objectives of this research are to evaluate the entrepreneurship attitudes and skills in the European Union and other world countries context before COVID-19 and discuss perspectives for the future. The information available in the Eurobarometers for the entrepreneurship that was worked through quantitative approaches was assessed. The results show that there is a long way to go in the European Union to achieve the desirable levels of personal, profession, and business entrepreneurship. In fact, the perceptions of the European citizen about the entrepreneurship changed in the last years, in consequence, for example, of technological developments, but still fall short of other countries as, for example, in some aspects the United States. In any cases, the skill improvements verified in Europe and the levels of innovation achieved are good news for the new challenges that will arrive soon.

Warren Delano represents a typical trader who needed more than moral integrity to keep him away from the opium trade. Arriving in Canton for the first time in 1834, Delano was lured to China by a commercial culture that unofficially tolerated opium smuggling. The openness of Canton in carrying out trade also proved to be its weakness, because before 1836, it was relatively easy to become involved in contraband. With substantial profits to be made and little risk of getting caught, employees of Russell and Company, as well as numerous others, had no reservations about participating in the trade. The change in Chinese and American attitudes toward the opium trade during the First Opium War forced Delano both to transform the ways in which he did business and to relocate his enterprises to Macao in the early 1840s. He also learned over time to pursue a career that combined ambition with personal connections and the ability to navigate amongst informal kinship- and friendship-based networks. Delano returned to the United States to live in 1846, but after years of financial success, was ruined by the Panic of 1857. He returned to China in 1860 and amassed a new fortune through trading tea, porcelain, and, at times, opium. In 1866, having made a second fortune, he returned permanently to the United States.

Recent studies on textbook costs in the United States have indicated that there is a direct relationship between textbook costs and student success. With textbook costs increasing at a rate higher than the cost of living, many students have cited the textbook cost as an extremely important factor when obtaining (or not obtaining) a textbook. Open educational resources (OER) are tools that educators can use to supplement or build a course.
