Abstract:
This study determined the prevalence of parasites on some common fruits and vegetables from major markets in Ede Town, Osun State, Nigeria. A total of two hundred and forty six (246) samples of fruits and vegetables were examined by sedimentation technique after washing using normal saline. The overall parasite prevalence was 37.4%. The highest rate of parasitic contamination (46.7%) was recorded in pineapples (Anana comosus) while oranges (Citrus sinensis) were the least contaminated (16.7%). For vegetables, African spinach (Spinacea oleracea) was the most contaminated (77.8%) while the least

Intestinal helminth infections are the most widespread of the world's neglected tropical diseases, primarily affecting morbidity in school-age children. Early and accurate intestinal helminth detection is important to determine an effective treatment for reducing morbidity. This research objective is to compare intestinal worm infections in elementary school children in swampy wetland areas using the Kato-Katz method and Flotation techniques. Two hundred ninety-six elementary school children in Danau Panggang Swamp-wetland, 6-13 years old, were examined for intestinal helminth eggs in no-prese

Holacanthus ciliaris is an important benthic-feeding reef fish but the relationship between the composition of its diet and prey availability is still unknown. Here we determined the quantitative composition of the gut contents of H. ciliaris in São Pedro e São Paulo Archipelago, Brazil (SPSPA), and compared it to the abundance of benthic organisms in the area. Holacanthus ciliaris has a relatively diversified diet with more than 30 prey species in SPSPA, especially sponges (13 spp., average 68% of gut contents total weight), algae (12 spp., 25%) and bryozoans (3 spp., 5%). In the age of globalization of infectious diseases, qualified personnel is needed for the diagnosis of parasitic diseases in the laboratory. This review aimed to introduce the methods for stool examination and identification of helminth eggs for the diagnosis of helminthic infections in laboratory and field surveys. The formalin-ether sedimentation technique (FEST) and the Kato-Katz egg counting technique (KKECT) are mainly described as representative stool examinations. The FEST is somewhat complicated and troublesome, but it is useful for differentiating small trematode eggs from opisthorchi
