ikmaz in Antakya. It is a remarkable example of traditional houses dating back to 19th century in Antakya. The aim of this study is to prepare the restoration project of the building which is far too important for the city with its location, richness of its spatial and architectural elements, interventions have been done and provide to maintain its role in the city by re-functioning it. The thesis includes the detailed description of the present state of the site and the selected building, historical background of Antakya, comparative study and restitution scheme. Finally, the restoration project including the intervention decisions and a proposal for a new function are prepared according to the evaluation of the information gathered throughout the study. There are several steps to prepare the restoration project of a traditional building. The first step is the historical research of both the selected building and the city where it is located. It is important, as it constitutes a background for the study. In the second step of the project, the preparation of the complete graphical and verbal information of the building to the document the present conditions of it. Site survey is the base for this step. After all the information is gathered at the site, they are presented by graphical and verbal ways. Documentation includes the analyses of the building in various aspects like materials, construction technique and deformations. The third step is the comparative study of the building between the same period traditional Antakya houses. These analyses are not only important for the position of the building in Antakya but also form a base for the restitution project. The fourth step restitution consists of evaluation of traces to grasp the alterations done on the original building and thus it can be possible to establish the original scheme of the building. In the last step, the restoration project is prepared. It covers the interventions that should be applied to the building and the proposal for the new function.

k Menderes Graben system is a tectonically active extensional region and is undergoing a N&ndash
S extension leading to form geothermal fields in the graben. In the last decade, geothermal exploration, investigations and investments have been increased rapidly through the law related to geothermal energy assigned. The aim of this study is to analyze the geothermal fields located in the graben system in order to investigate their geological, hydrogeological and geochemical features and reservoir characteristics. A data set is compiled from the accessible archives, published papers and documents and several variables have been searched at every field in the graben. The variables include the fluid temperature, the distance to sea, the depth to the reservoir, the reservoir lithology, the chemical constituents, etc. In view of these variables the fields are compared and constrasted and their common characterisrics have been noted. Interpretation of the data set reveals that the fields have some common features and characters however some fields have got notable differences.

Full textWestern Anatolia is one of the most active regions in the world and is represented by horsts and grabens faulted on the margins. The subject of this work, the Büyük Menderes graben, is one of the most active structures in the region and extends between the Aegean Sea in the west and the Denizli Basin in the east. Detailed mapping shows that the active faults bounding the northern boundary of the graben were ruptured with surface breaks in historical periods. These ruptures identified in detail during the field studies. Where direct observations were not possible, however, the characteristic features of the faults were identified by using the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), one of the shallow geophysical methods. The GPR method works on the basis of recording of the reflections of the electromagnetic waves from the interfaces by a horizontal receiver which were transmitted to the ground with high velocity by using a horizontal antenna. Data collected is filtered to eliminate the environmental and instrumental noise by using computers and then interpreted to determine the buried structures in high resolution and sensitivity. In scope of the investigation, GPR studies were conducted in six different locations (two trenches, three faulted archaeological site and a buried archaeological site). The trace of the fault, width of the fault zone and the amount of the offset of the young units along the fault were determined by the GPR method before the excavation of the trenches. In the archaeological site where the offset remnants of the archaeological objects were observed, the trace of the faults and the width of the deformational zones were determined by the GPR and the amount of offset obtained from GPR profiles were compared with the offset amounts measured on the surface. In order to locate the exact location of the ancient road entering the ancient Nysa town GPR, studies were conducted and a previously unknown temple was discovered. In the trenches which were excavated based on the GPR findings, it was found that the amount of the offset obtained by the GPR method and the actual offset measured on the trench wall were agreeable with each other. Where the offset archaeological structures exist, it was observed that the faults on the GPR profiles correspond to the ruptures on these structures. In Nysa ancient town, the image obtained from GPR was interpreted to belong to a structure rather than the road expected; in fact, the excavations conducted later on revealed a temple which was not known to exist before

k Menderes Graben. The continuous gas monitoring experiment (November 2007-October 2008) conducted in the Tekke Hamam geothermal field has revealed temporal variations in the gas compositions, gas flow rate and pool temperature. Different variation components, such as daily variation profiles and peak/Multi-day signals, are detected in the monitored data, which are mainly correlated with shallow and deep processes involving mainly meteorological factors and seismicity induced variations, respectively. Particularly, the coupled variations in the gas compositions and flow rate seem to correlate with seismicity induced permeability modifications within the subsurface during the absence of significant meteorological factors, such as high rainfall and varying atmospheric pressure. The noble gas characterization of the fields have revealed both high 3He/4He and 4He/20Ne isotopic ratios, suggesting a mantle contribution of about 18% for Kizildere and 34% for Tekke Hamam, whereas the other noble gases (Ar, Ne, Kr, Xe) are of atmospheric nature. The different mantle contributions observed in both fields can suggest a different mantle-He flux variably contaminated by crustal helium.
