Purpose: This work describes the first published case of Best vitelliform macular dystrophy (BVMD) with bilateral, solitary, extramacular retinal lesions. Methods: A case report is presented. Results: An 8-year-old girl with a family history of BVMD was referred for suspicious peripheral retinal lesions. Multimodal imaging disclosed bilateral, solitary, extramacular lesions consistent with the vitelliform lesions found in BVMD. There were no abnormalities in the macula. Conclusions: This is the first documented case of solitary, bilateral, extramacular vitelliform lesions in BVMD.

We present three cases of children with giant macular holes in relation to trivial trauma. These children had brittle retina secondary to Best vitelliform macular dystrophy (BVMD) which made them vulnerable to the irreversible complications. None of the three cases had any signs of trauma in the anterior segment pointing to trivial nature of the trauma. Two cases progressed to retinal detachment. This series highlights the importance of ocular protection and special care needed for children with BVMD.

Das reine Zahlenmaterial hat sich jedenfalls nicht dementsprechend in die Höhe geschraubt.” Auch wenn es in 2007 wieder ein bisschen besser aussieht, so bleibt das Problem der Branche das Inlandsgeschäft.
